Congratulations, Ephemery!!!

LitigatorChick, if you don''t mind me asking, how do you find balancing the demands of being an attorney with motherhood? Do you work very long hours typically? Do you know of attorneys who have worked out part time or 40 hour/wk arrangements with firms to allow for better work-life balance? Thanks in advance.
Ephemery, I am thinking about you today - hang in there.

TanDogMom, it is tough to balance, but I make it work. First, I work early hours - I am in the office by just after 6:00. That way, I leave most days around 4:00. I then get home, get to spend 4 hours with my little guy before he goes to bed. If I have more work, I do it after he goes to bed. I do not work on weekends (unless there is an emergency).

I am ruthlessly efficient at my job, so when I am working, I am generally very efficient. My firm is quite understanding, because I make them be - accomodate me or I will leave. I do good work and make a lot of money for the firm, so they are understanding. It is give and take with them.

I have to set boundaries. But if my son isn''t important enough, who is!!

I am crossing my fingers for you, Ephemery. Hang in there.

ephemery, hope everything is ok. Sending positive thoughts your way. Please keep us posted.

Ephem- just wanted to pop in to say that I am thinking of you as well. Take care of yourself, sweetie!

Eph--I hope all is well, we''ll all be thinking of you.

Ephemery, thinking of you today.

Litigatorchick, thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I am glad you have made it work for you!! It sounds like you are a real asset to your firm. Were you there a long time before you were able to negotiate for the schedule you wanted?

Eph-
Sending you lots of sticky vibes.

I have been at my firm for 6 years. However, I worked my butt off pre-baby, and really proved myself. They understand that if they give me a little flexibility for a few years, it will pay off huge for them. And the reality is that this year, I billed only 50 hours less than my last pre-baby year! So in short, my hours really have not dropped much, which means same dollars for the firm.

You guys are amazing... I can't thank everyone enough for such an outpouring of support... all your comments brought tears to my eyes... (hormonal much?)

The spotting seems to have stopped completely and my doctor says it's okay to remain optimistic... like Snlee said, as long as it's not bright red, it's considered semi-normal. He is going to bring me in for bloodwork on Monday and again on Thursday to check the numbers since everything is too small to be seen on a sonogram at this point! I feel about a million times better. Thank you again!!

So because of needing to change vacation plans, we went ahead and told our parents last night (with the warning about how early it was!). Everyone was surprised and overjoyed... this would be the first grandkid for both. My dad is a pharmacist/pharmacy-owner, so he's still been supplying my birth control each month... well I brought him back an unused Nuvaring packet and told him it must have been defective, but we'd know for sure in October. The look on his face was priceless.

And NJC, thanks for reposting!! It is SO good to know that other people went through that same emotional "what did we do!" process. I am suddenly so aware of all the things that are going to be changing... and I don't handle change very well to begin with! DH and I have been together for 5 years (will have been married for 1.5) but it is still hard to accept that it won't be just the two of us for much longer.

Ephemery, that is just the news I was looking for this morning. I will stay optimistic with and for you!

I love the way you told your dad, by the way! Classic!

I''m so glad you feel better! Thanks for keeping us posted!

And yes, it is weird, isn''t it, that life will never be "just the two of us" or the ''two of you''!

eph...thanks so much for the update and i''m so happy for you that things seem to back on track....yay for you....i too think it''s classic they way you told your dad...too funny!!

YAY, Eph!!! You know I am an L&D nurse and a nurse practitioner...I have to say, alot of pts complain about spotting/bleeding during the first trimester and end up having completely healthy pregnancies, which they carry to term....So, try not to worry (I know easier said than done) and think positive!!! I have a feeling everything will be just fine!!!

ephemery, glad to see a positive update. Congratulations! How exciting!

I love the way you told your dad. How funny!

ephemery, glad they aren''t worried. I learned early on if the doc isn''t concerned I shouldn''t be. Good luck with the blood tests. I had to have that done as well b/c I found out *so* early. Keep in mind it is not uncommon to spot after sex or a vaginal exam.

Eph- I''m glad to hear that things sound positive.

I''ll be thinking of you next week- hope the test results are in your favor!

Ephemery,
So glad to hear this news. And I also love how you told your dad, that was priceless.

Eph--keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Luv how you told your dad--very cute!!! I can just picture his face

Eph--
Glad to hear of the good news.
I''ll be optimistic for you too.
Continuing sending sticky dust your way.

Love the way you announce to you dad.
It''s priceless.

Eph - thanks for the positive update and so cute how you told your dad! Sending lots of sticky baby vibes your way!

Well, it''s official. I look pregnant. I know I just posted that I was still looking just fat and then, overnight it seems, my belly is just there. It''s not huge or anything but definately there. Yay! I loooove loooking at it in the mirror because it''s such a reminder of the little bean growing inside of me. I will say, though, for JAS that I was thin before getting preggo and am still thin comparatively so that''s probably why I "popped" a bit soon.

I was already planning on buying some maternity clothes this weekend so the timing is just right. I went to Target and got 2 pairs of work pants - black and chocolate brown - a pair of maternity jeans and some tops. My favorite top is a black 3/4 sleeve empire waist baby doll that you can wear a colorful cami under. Very cute and really shows off my small bump - especially in the jeans. Target didn''t have a huge selection, but the prices are right and I got some things to wear to work that look decent.

I am also feeling so much better. I''m eating like a normal person again and have started having cravings for things that my mom made when I lived at home - lasagna, fried chicken with homemade gravy, tuna cassarole and chili just to name a few. My energy isn''t entirely back but at least I don''t feel like going to bed at 7pm anymore. Good thing, too because my house needs a good cleaning and the dogs need baths!

DivaDi--great to hear you are feeling like you old self now. How far along are you? 3 months now? And yay for the little belly! Does make you feel much more pregnant doesn''t it?! I really wanted the little belly right away (to substitute for the bloated/chubby feeling) but it took me a while to really show--almost to the 5th month--but boy did i make up for it in a hurry. There are a few of those women who never really look preggers, but most of us end up looking pretty similar by the 3 Tri so it''s interesting to see how different ppl''s bodies respond. And it often does happen almost overnight--i remember feeling that same way around week 25-26--the growth was crazy.
Post a pic for us!

off to bed for me, what an exciting saturday night.--have to be up early to ski coach tomorrow (minus the skis)--ick, i really don''t want to stand on a cold ski hill all day, looking like a disproportioned snowman

Good morning. Some of you may recall that last week at our party, DH told a doctor friend that I was taking antibiotics, which is why I wasn''t drinking. Doctor friend said there is only one antibiotic that doesn''t mix with alcohol. DH told him "that''s the one." Since we will be seeing doctor friend at a Super Bowl party today, I figured I should look up what I apparently had. (By the way, this is giving me a lot of fodder for the thread about lying).

Anyway, here is the note I just left on DH''s desk (he''s still sleeping).

Darling:

Just so you know, the one antibiotic that cannot be mixed with alcohol is Metronidazole, which is most commonly used to treat the following:

Bacterial Vaginosis (infection of the hoo-ha)
Dysentery
Liver disease
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (which is an STD)
Giardia (which causes diarrhea)

No wonder [doctor friend] did not say good bye to me. Next time, please just say I''m the designated driver.

Now that all that loveliness is out of the way...

I am retaining water like crazy, to the tune of about three pounds. (Or else I''m in denial and it''s really quite the one week weight gain, but really, I am eating the same and still exercising). I am retaining it in my fingers, which makes me worry that I won''t be able to wear my rings much longer, and in my tummy (which is always where I get bloated), and of course, my face. I don''t think I can take in more water than my 8 glasses, but it''s worth a shot! I''m going to feel like that chick from Willie Wonka who turns into a Blueberry...Violet, right?

The preggo sniffles are in full force, but at least my energy is back for the most part. Lil Lojack has basically given me a very easy time, no real nausea, no vomiting, so (*crosses fingers*) I''m going to assume DH and I created a very low-maintenance embryo.

My first appointment is a week from tomorrow and I''m hoping I''ll at least get to hear a little heartbeat...I''m also hoping that my fibroids will be cause for them to do an early US at some point. (Gotta get something out of dealing with those suckers for so many years!)

Diva! Yea for popping! You sound so excited. Baby bumps are outstanding! Glad your energy is back, too. Of course, that''s for selfish reasons, because I want you to spend all your extra energy here on PS!

Jas12, lol about the snowman. I''m sure you look excellent. I didn''t know you are a ski instructor! That''s exciting!

I''m off to exercise and drink more water. Too bad there are no face exercises...maybe I can just keep sticking my tongue out at DH.

Jas - Thanks. It''s good to know which antibiotics it is that can''t be mixed with alcohol, but it''s kind of funny that it treats STD and vaginal infections. I always thought it''s just good practice to not take drug and use alcohol.

I had an appt last Friday, and I am gaining too much weight. Well I think overall it''s not too much (6lbs in 14wk), but I gained 4lbs from the past three weeks. So now I am watching what I am eating, so I don''t eat too much junks. I feel so bad and fat.

Other than that, everything is fine - fetus growing on schedule.

ok, Jas the antibiotic story is HILARIOUS..i think i''d have to sneak and tell the dr. the truth though...too funny.

oh and you probably won''t be able to *hear* the heartbeat. the doppler usually won''t pick up the sound so early, but if they do the vaginal ultrasound you will definitely *see* the heartbeat. I can''t remember, what week are you?

Qtiekiki- please do not worry about the weight gain. I was up 12 lbs by week 12 so you''re way behind me. your body will grow and gain as it needs too and much of it is for the survival of the baby. Boobs alone can add several lbs then add all the amniotic fluid etc. if you were underweight at all to begin with your body will also catch you up to normal. I''ve found that by the 3rd trimester most gals will end up having about the same weight gain. did your dr. tell you that you are gaining weight to quickly? I''m at 30 weeks and up 30 lbs on my way to probably the same 40 i gained before with my first two. of course, it''s a good idea to try and eat healthy but that isn''t going to keep you from gaining b/c it''s not junk food weight you''re packing on
2.gif

Jas, your antibiotic story made me laugh out loud!

Glad I made some of you smile...for some reason, DH just looked at me after reading the letter and said, "So?" Naughty boy.

Mrs. Salvo, I''ll be 8 weeks at the time of the appointment. So interesting about doppler and all that. So much to learn.

Awww, QT, I''m sorry you feel bad...I''m sure, as mrs s. pointed out, that it''ll all work out.
