Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Tacori--
Glad to hear that you are feeling better.

About reading to your kids, I don''t think they are ever too young to start reading to them.

Hi Tacori! Glad you are doing better! And I agree with lili...great to read to them. I''ve been noticing my friend''s 4 year old is already enamored by what he sees on the TV, so you know they love colors and pictures. I personally think books are much better! (I''m not a TV person at all.)

Thanks for the info on the pads. I just wondered if there was any place they get held in the bra, but I guess the bra just holds them against the boob.

Re: growing boobs...mine are under restraint. I am still wearing the 36B bra I wore in the beginning of my pregnancy with the hopes it would rein them in. Poor things look miserable in there, but I''m too lazy to get bigger bras....not to mention I know they won''t stay large...they''re destined to turn into floppy A''s!

So, I get no more ultrasounds! I thought they''d do at least one more for sure, but nada. Anyone else finding this is the case?

ummmm....I just realized I think we are due some u/s photos! Come on ladies! Post them!

Also the nursery thread is feeling lonely. No one has theirs done yet?!? Slackers
2.gif

Lili, I love reading but figured she was too young. I did try reading a longer book with black and white illustrations....not so interested. But the shorter ones with REALLY colorful images she seemed really into it. Plus she loves when I make any noise/sound. One was a Dr. Suess that is perfect b/c it is all about different noises.

TGal, she loves the TV too. I''m ok with it but growing up we were restricted to one hour a day and I probably try to do that too. Plus age appropriate stuff of course! The pads will stay in place for the most part. B/c of them I have to always wear something (I used to not sleep in a bra but that is just not an option) yet another reason why I love the tanks. I saw some others (in cool colors) from another company but they were way expensive! No thanks.

Oh big news....little Tess rolled over today!!!
36.gif
It was on our bed though (which is probably easier than the floor) but its a start. She rolled from her belly to back all by herself (she usually gets stuck on her side). I guess she''ll do ANYTHING to get off her belly! Haha! It was exciting!

Haha, DH and I were pretty bummed about it as well.
Dr basically told me at my 28 wk appt that I''m done with all the tests and u/s.
Like I had that many to begin with -- 3 to be exact.
I only had one at 9wk for the initial visit where it look like a peanut.
Another at my 15wk for the amnio, and that one look like skeletor.
Both DH and I had to have the tech explained to us what we are looking at
41.gif

Then the last one was at my 18 wk.
So it''s been a while since we saw the little one
7.gif

We toyed with the idea of going to one of those store front u/s center....but decided not to.
We''ll just have to be patient and wait for her arrival.

So yes, I envy Ella and of course JackieJas for the many u/s they get.

Oh, you''ll get another u/s if you go over 40 weeks

SHUSH, you bad girl!

Yay, re: Tessa rolling over! I was over at my friend''s last night who has the son who is the same age as Tessa and he was rolling over too...had done it a few times from back to belly but it was the first time from belly to back. We were all so excited. So funny that such a simple thing just brings down the whole house! Woohoo!

Yeah lili, the last time I saw TTot was 17 weeks. That''s a long time ago! I just wanted to take another look.
8.gif
I had 3 total too so I guess I can''t complain.

No photos of a nursery (because I am not doing one as you all know) and my u/s pics are old. Yes, I still owe you all a belly shot. I am so lazy...will do it soon.

i was disappointed about not getting any more...then my bloodpressure skyrocketed and from 37-41 weeks i had to go in twice a week for fetal monitoring. not even exciting u/s! I was so glad he came right before the 42nd week, i couldnt handle driving up to UCLA any more!!! So just hope all stays well for you all!

i didnt make it to the spa today, we postponed till tomorrow...to be honest i''m finishing up dinner and i am still in my pj''s...its been one of those days.

Tacori- YAY for tessa rolling. Ian isnt close to rolling or crawling, even though he is a month past the timeline for rolling...i''m not too concerned. i just selfishly want him to sit so i can more easily take pics!

Ella- sorry to hear about supply. i was going to this BFing group 3 times a week and in aover an hour he never took in more than a half ounce. its frustrating when your body doesnt work. i was on reglan, goats rue, fenugreek and more milk plus. The goats rue helps build breast tissue (i had a reduction) so that helped me the most but i still never had a full supply. Good luck with the supplements!!!

Nursing tanks. when i didnt wear a nursing tank for the first few months, i just walked around the house in a bra...i seriously had no energy for dressing just to undress every hour!

Man it''s hard to keep up with this thread!

Thanks ella and msb,

Congrats Snlee!

Re: tanks-I agree with the others regarding the nursing tanks. I hated my nursing bras and really only wore the tanks...literally....I would even wear them under sweaters and stuff when going out in public. I never nursed in public, but I was so much more comfortable in the tanks. One of my friends got some on glamourmom.com (I think that''s right) and she loves them because they''re longer. Mid-drift is not exactly sexy when you''ve just had a baby.
9.gif

Boobs:mine were big to start and really didn''t get much bigger until my milk came in. I seriously felt like they could touch my chin! The first time I breast fed I was so worried because my boobs were sooo much bigger than Tayva''s head, I didn''t know how she''d be able to breath in there! :)

Tacori: glad to hear you''re feeling better today and congrats to Miss Tessa on rolling over!! How exciting.

As for my little one and the pooping-we tried the apple juice and it worked. I never thought I''d be so happy to see a poopy diaper...and tell so many people about a poopy diaper. Oh, the joys of motherhood!

MsF, I try not to get hung up on the monthly check lists either. I figure in the end it doesn''t really matter if she walks at 9 months or 12 months (for example). Sorry you had a bad day. I hate those.

Ella, sorry about your low milk supply. I hope the supplements work for you!

Burk, I can totally relate to the poop excitement. DH and I talk EVERYDAY about if she pooped or not. Too funny!

Ella: forgot to say good luck on getting that milk supply up! Breast feeding can be so frustrating!

Tacori: I just tried to go post pics of Tayva''s nursery on the baby nursery thread and there wasn''t a reply option...am I missing something?

msf: I can totally relate to the still in pj''s day...we have many of those (okay, I can''t lie, most days if I make it into sweatpants from my pj''s it''s a good day!
2.gif
)

Hey I haven''t left the house since Monday!
32.gif
But I have been sick....I will use that as my excuse.

Burk, hit report abuse or e-mail the Admin and they will reopen it if you ask them. Every thread closes if it has been inactive for a certain amount of time. I would love to see you''s. I love seeing how other people decorate!

Jas, I'm a small A too so I wouldn't mind going to a large A! I won't complain though...I might regret wanting to be bigger! I've wondered if others can tell you are pregnant by your boobs. If you grow a cup or two early on, it must be noticeable to others. I guess people shouldn't be looking that closely to your boobs.
4.gif

Tacori, exciting news about Tessa rolling over! Whoohoo! Glad you're feeling better.

Thanks Burk!

Are 3 ultrasounds the norm for a normal healthy pregnancy?

Snlee, I had one u/s at 6 weeks to establish my EDD (the early ones are the most accurate), my 20 week "big" scan which is standard, and one at 40 weeks 2 days b/c I was overdue and they wanted to make sure everything still looked ok. I also had to have a stress test done. The first one you couldn''t see a thing, 20 weeks was so cool! we could count the fingers and toes. Last one boring b/c the head was already low so it wasn''t like we could get a face view (not that that was the purpose of it anyways!) My one friend only gets her 20 week scan. Every doctor''s office is different.

I had to have the u/s because of age. One at 8 weeks at the doc''s, then the 11 wk nuchal test and the 17 week amnio. Otherwise, I probably would have only had 1 or 2.

Evening all...I just can''t keep up....

SNLEE -- CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I am so happy for you!

Just because I wanna share, here are my little ones. I think they look like Charlie. Charlie thinks they look like mashed potatoes.

Tacori--
Too funny about Tessa doing anything to get off her tummy.
9.gif

But yay for the milestone!

Snlee--
I think mid-pregnancy u/s (ie. around 20 wk) are a given.
Every preggo will get that one regardless.
The other u/s really depends on the office/hospital where you get your prenatal care, preggo''s age, high risk pregnancy, carrying twins..
It is standard practice for my hospital to do the transvaginal u/s on your initial pnv (at around 9 wks) to determine the EDD because
not everyone has a regular cycle. Then they do the 20 wk u/s (which is probably the most interesting one) to ensure that the fetus development is okay.
If you fall in the maternal age group (35+), then you can opt to do the amnio at 16-19 wks.
I don''t think my hospital does the NT at 11-13 wk ones or maybe they do but because I was going to do the amnio, they didn''t offer me that option.

TGal--
Regarding the sharing of breastpump.
I just came back from the breastfeeding basic class and the nurse told us not to share breast pump.
She said that unless you are using the ones that the hospital (or at least my hospital) has for rental,
the ones that we use do not have the mechanism to block any breast milk that may potentially get into the pump should one accidentally over-pump.
And changing tubings would not ensure that whatever can get into the pump get pushed out in your milk.
Just thought you like to know.

JackieJas--
Awee....look at the two little beans.
It won''t be long before you''ll have 2 little ones in your arms.
It seems like just yesterday when Ella showed us her first u/s of her little beans

Nursing tanks. when i didnt wear a nursing tank for the first few months, i just walked around the house in a bra...i seriously had no energy for dressing just to undress every hour!

Haha, that''s so funny.
The lactation nurse told us today in class that she basically live in her shorts only the first few weeks of nursing.

Tacori--poor you stuck sick in the house since Monday!--I hope the cold lifts so you can enjoy the weekend at least. Keep reading to Tessa--in teacher''s college I took a course on early reading strategies and it is nothing but beneficial--she''ll soon choose favourite books and drive you insane wanting to hear them a zillion times, but that is just part of the learning process.

--
T.V. has not shown these benefits--but moms do say it''s a lifesaver once in a while --so everything in moderation. I didn''t even own a T.V for the longest time--but now that I have one I do watch a few programs and I am sure my kids will too. I think they should get a bit of everything.
Oh, and while we''re on the topic--a lot of my friends are into the Baby Einstein series and plop their kids in front of them thinking they are making well, baby einsteins.....not so (I even know of a guy who props his 3-month old in front of it for an hour or two a day b/c he''s sure he''s becoming a genius!). The effectiveness of such products is really hard to test--but recent studies with child psychs and linguists have actually pointed to language/reading/skill delays in kids exposed to these vs. kids who are read to or just participate in free-play. I can''t find the teaching site where I first read this info--but here is a Times article if anyone is intersted.

Baby Einstein

Tgal--I am thru with the US as well. I wish we had one more--when my belly morphs into unhumanly shapes I wish i could peer in there and see how this bambino is positioned! The ''name that body part'' game is getting old
3.gif
we''re always trying to guess the same parts in the same location.
............................
Grr, I wish Canada had Target! They don''t even ship here--how strange is that. I really want these nursing tanks that Tacori has everyone convinced about. I looked at Walmart but didn''t see any and the few I have come across are high-end tanks from mat shops ($50!!) and that''s insane.

I put together my bugaboo frog with the bassinet last night and i really luv it. It sits in my den waiting to be filled by a little someone --i said I wouldn''t spend so much on a stroller and looked at so many other brands (I waited 4 months for Peg Perego''s new SKATE stroller to come out and was really dissapointed when I tried it this weekend)--the bugaboo just had everything i wanted--save the cost. Every yuppie and their neighbor has one in Toronto--but up north where i live i''ve never seen one, so at least i won''t look like every other urbanite--i''ll just be trying to be one
2.gif
. I''ve been so budget concious over other purchases so this is my ''baby-spluge'' (geez, listen to me justify over here
5.gif
)

Jas12 - check out glamourmom tanks. They were pretty good, IMO.

My little guy was not a big TV fan at first. Since he has been 1, he has started to like it more. His favorite show is the Doodlebops - I don''t know if you have it in the US, since it is a CBC (Canadian government funded television) program. They are the best! I love
30.gif
the doodlebops!

I only had 1 ultrasound at about 18 weeks. But I loved hearing the heartbeat at every doctor''s visit!

Another idea for dealing with constipation, other than the "p" fruits noted previously is some flax oil. I give my little guy flax meal every day with his breakfast, and in addition to the other nutrients, it helps keep things "moving".

Yikes -- let''s see if I can catch up with three pages of posts! Then, if I still have feeling in my fingers, an update on me...

msb
, that is one beautiful child. Sigh. I love the soulful eyes. He looks like he''s already quite the charmer!

jas12
-- yup, i posted about my sister in BWW for the 4.5 months I was engaged. There is just this thought process with her that any good news for anyone in the family is somehow a negative reflection on her and she gets defensive. It''s sad and I feel for her, but after a lifetime of this, it''s getting exhausting. I''m pretty much resigned to the fact that she will have no relationship with my kids because it makes her feel like a failure, no matter how much we tell her otherwise. She has no relationship with my husband, who she met at the wedding and yelled at, and no relationship with my brothers FI, who she has already said she''ll meet at their wedding in June 2009.
Anyway, jas12, how is the housecleaning going?

To all nesters present and future
, please feel free to come clean my house. My nesting genes are missing.

Hello burk! Welcome to the thread. Little Tayva (beautiful name, BTW) is just lovely! I think you will find that this is the most wonderful group of people here! The ladies here always lend a hand, an ear, a should to cry on, and a giggle...often in the same post!

Tacori
-- is Tessa feeling any better today? How are you feeling? And what site sends you the "Your baby is 16 weeks today" emails? I get them for pregnancy and love all the comparisons of my babies to food (This week your baby is the size of a Cheerio! This week your baby is the sign of a prune! I can''t wait for This week you baby is the size of a chalupa from Taco Bell) And thank you so much for the repost -- I saved it to my computer...it''s going to be a lifesaver!

Tgal
-- Your nursing bra adventures made me spit coffee all over my computer screen. I love your style, although I maintain that you are probably uber gorgeous, back fat or no back fat. While I don''t think Victoria''s Secret will be making nursing bras anytime soon, I''m sure there have to be alternatives that make you feel a little more like a sexual being and a little less like an incubator/dairy farm.

Diver
-- Step away from the poop. Now. Slowly. And BWAHAHAHAHA on the "Grover arms" LOVE IT!

I''m going to get some water now, I''ll finish in a few (try to contain your excitement)

jackie, the babes are adorable! isn't it so cool seeing the two of them in there? enjoy the 1st and 2nd tri u/s b/c those are the fun ones (they get less fun the bigger you get, trust me!)
36.gif

as for the number of u/s, as a lot of you know, i had a ton of them -- i'd say at least 8? i loved having that many, but i know that's not typical (even for some twin pregs). from what i hear, yeah, three is the usual amount.

re nursing bras, OK I was such an idiot that I didn't even take nursing bras to the hospital but I did take nursing pads ... and had no clue what to do with them (so don't feel bad asking TGal!). I tried sticking them to the inside of my johnny (the laninoh pands have a little sticky tape on them) but guess what? That didn't work! As for bras, my two favorites are from Target -- the Gillian O'Malley brand I think. One is a sports bra style and the other is some white nylony thing, which I love! I got two from Destination Maternity (Motherhood I think) and don't really like them too much. None are sexy by any means! And yes, the first few weeks (OK, more than a few!), I was basically walking around the house in a bra, yoga pants, and a bathrobe. Talk about s-e-x-y!

I do read to the babies sometimes but yeah, it's felt sort of pointless so far when they're this little since they don't seem to really pay much attention! BUT they're definitely starting to catch on as there is one section in a Baby Elmo book that makes Katelyn smile every time I read it. I just repeat those two pages over and over again to keep her smiling sometimes
21.gif

tacori, whoo hoo for the good sleep!! Makes a world of difference, doesn't it (not that I'd know ... sleep, what's sleep?!)! and yay for tessa hitting the rolling over milestone -- go T!!

Tgal, once again, I have been moved (from shrieks of laughter) to come seek you out in here, just to tell you how absolutely hilarious you are. Your quick wit is one to be rivaled. I can only aspire to be as funny as you are lady.

Thanks for the morning laugh. And to give you an idea of just what prompted this, here''s a hint.

Part the Second

Ephemery -- I hope you are feeling a little better today. I will keep sending you ginger-flavored vibes.

Tacori -- what is a Snap and Go? I''m so worried that DH and I will try to get everything (and I mean everything) for babies in one mad 24 hour dash. I need to start figuring this stuff out and ordering online! Hooray for rolling over! That''s so exciting!

Hi Qtiekiki! I can certainly join the boob club...I went from a 34 C to a 36 overflowing D and I''m still growing. I''m feeling quite Dolly Parton these days and am more than willing to act as a flotation device next time I''m in a situation that requires it. I am very amused at the reaction I am getting from the boob-obsessed of the species. I am not amused at the gaps in my blouses.

msflutter -- how was the spa? It sounds heavenly! (You postponed to Friday, right?)

Jas12 -- hide them jeans for a year. I am sure with all the physical activity you''ve done up to and including pregnancy and then what will occur after, you''ll have "maternal stores" shifts and will get right back in those bad boys soon! Or, alternately, burn ''em. I can''t believe you are still going to the gym. I bow to your fitness level. I am one of those people who sits and watches exercise videos. Just watches. Hope your Dh feels better.

TGal - -yea on the announcement. What is a miracle blanket? (see my comment to Tacori above)

Diva -- Thanks for posting on pets...I''m curious as to what the responses will be! I have a similar situation.

So, yesterday was an interesting foray into the Mind of Men...I had another meeting with my mentor (our second)...during our first meeting we talked about careers and other life issues. It was an easy conversation that touched on a lot of interesting side issues. Yesterday we met before my class, and about 20 minutes into the meeting, I start to figure out that he thinks we''re on a date!
23.gif
(Yes I had my wedding ring and e-ring on). He was just falling all over himself flirting. I have to say that I rather enjoyed it, although I immediately put the kaibosh on it and quickly mentioned my husband and the fact that I''m pregnant. With twins. I''m embarrassed to admit that it was really flattering to have this incredibly handsome, brilliant guy show interest in pudgy ol'' preggy me (it did not help that this is the guy I was having erotic dreams about a few weeks ago.) Boy oh boy. But honestly, I couldn''t even think of flirting back...I just love DH so darned much and this would crush him. I choose to chalk up this experience to the boob increase.

In class, I had eight of my (male) classmates asking me all sorts of questions about pregnancy. My favorite was "When are you going to pop?" The fascination and wonder this causes in men is so funny. The women were all saying, "Girl, eat as much as you can now, because soon there won''t be room in there." My teacher for the class keeps giving me scenes to do where I''m pregnant and/or giving birth. I''m wondering if maybe she could possibly give me something where I have to stretch a little (I mean something beyond my perineum?)
26.gif
It''s fun though. You start to realize that most people are not hanging around with preggos very often. The whole class wants to take belly shots with me (we''re together for a whole year.) All the guys want to line up with me and stick their tummies out (you know how guys can do that to a freaky extent?) and we''re taking guesses on how long it takes for my tummy to surpass theirs. I''m guessing 2 weeks. Everyone else thinks 3 months. But they don''t know how much deep dish pizza I''m eating.
16.gif

After my class, I came home. DH was hosting the monthly poker game. I walked in to 10 men (who I all know). They had been told of my "delicate condition" and I swear to god that every single one of them gave me a goofy grin as I walked in. Sort of a cross between "Wow, you totally got laid!" and "I revere your capacity to create and sustain human life, oh Mighty One." It was the oddest thing. And very funny. I''m sure had I asked any of them to paint the baby room at that moment, they would have.

I need to start looking at Bella Bands and stuff like that, because I''m about popping outta my pants. It begins.

That''s my life story and I''m sticking to it.

Jackie, I''m neither Tacori nor TGal, but since I own both a Snap-n-Go and Miracle Blankets, I feel qualified to answer your questions
1.gif

The Snap-n-Go is a basic metal frame stroller that your car seat snaps into (most car seats work, but not all). They make a Double Snap-n-Go for two car seats, which is what I have. It''s awesome. It folds up easily, weighs nothing, and is easy easy easy. Totally the way to go when the babies are in car seats and you need to tote them around. It also has a console that holds two drinks as well as a storage basket underneath.

And the Miracle Blanket is a *great* swaddling blanket! It''s the only one I''ve found that keeps them all wrapped up and that they can''t kick their way out of! It''s pricey but has def. been a worthwhile purchase for us at least.

Thank you so much. I feel like I need a guided tour through the whole baby paraphernalia world. "easy" is a key word, me thinks!

Thanks again...time to begin bargain shopping and coupon-collecting.

Jas---you crack me up, I am glad you''re on the preggie board now so i can read your posts when I should be marking--but alas, I like hearing about erotic dreams, twin belly and deep dish pizza (ya, that stood out cuz i could go for some right about now!)
--I forgot to mention the ultrasound is great--frame it!
--And ya, i am going to burn the jeans --they''ll be outta style before i fit into them i am sure--they''re like 4 sizes smaller despite my efforts at the gym
15.gif

..........

All this talk of sexy nursing bras--reminds me of one novelty pregnancy teeshirt from that website someone posted months ago. It said (written on the belly):
"I am bringing sexy back...in a couple of months" not quite accurate if you''re nursing eh? More like a year or so. hehe

jackiejas- it''s babycenter.com that you can enter in your due date and they will sending you weekly emails of your baby''s development. mine''s the size of a pinapple now
9.gif
whattoexpect.com might do them too, I''m only a member of babycenter though.

love the ultrasound pic too btw...

Thank you Jackie! I love the u/s picture! It must be so surreal seeing that for the first time! I agree that your posts are very entertaining. Glad we get to go through this journey together! Let me know how you like the bella band. I want to buy one too but it''s a bit early for me to get one now.

Deep dish pizza sounds really good right now. I''m starving waiting for lunch to come around. My DH is waiting for me to start having cravings, pig out, and get fat. Isn''t he nice?
3.gif
So far no cravings and I haven''t been eating more than normal. What were your experiences? What did you crave?
