Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

MrsS, you are right. I don''t need any MORE things keeping me up at night! So what do you think I should have engraved? Should I have it on the profile or sizing bar?

Curly, what a timely response. Tessa was a naughty girl last night. I think I went into her room every hour (either to nurse, or put her paci back in). Well one time I walked in and she was on her belly! Boy was I surprised! Early that day she was SOOOOO close to rolling, well I guess she figured it out.

Dem, I feel your pain girl! I put her down at 9:30 and she was so quiet and fell asleep (like a good little girl) well starting at 12:20 I was up every hour. I HATE hearing her cry. I really do. I might have to try the CIO method once she gains a few more lbs b/c I cannot go on for another year of this. Fatigue is horrible.

LC, she is a wiggle worm. Yes, she was in a sleep sack so I have NO idea how she managed that (DH saw it not me)

Janine, please visit safefetus.com it will tell you everything you need to know about medications during pregnancy AND BF. I didn''t use any harsh face stuff, drink, or use any medication besides Tylenol once. But I ate chocolate everyday, drank coke, painted my nails...you will soon find you need to find out what is right for YOU. There is no one size fits all parenting.

Diver, I am so sleep deprived the angel care monitor confuses me. I have it on sound only b/c the alarm seems to go off. Any tips?

So I realized my little Tessa loves cartoons. Must be the music, voices (tone), and colors. I would hate for her to watch TOO much but you know what, I need a break sometimes! Without good naps, sleeping...I need to get stuff done. She was so cute this morning watching TV and just cooing and giggling.

tacori: what do you have your alarm sensitivity set at? I set mine kind of high...4.. Also, do you have the sensor pad set on a sheet of plywood under her mattress? if not, it won''t work right. Let me know if u need me 2 take a pic of how mine is set up.

I have the sensitivity level on however it was sent to me. Yes it is on plywood, maybe I am not putting her directly on it? I know you love yours and I think it is a great idea (and seeing how I spent the money....) Whenever I turn it to movement after a few mins it turn orange then red (with the alarm). I am not using batteries but have it plugged in so I know it isn''t low battery.

Ok Tacori, I think I know the problem. Did you read the instruction booklet from cover to cover & follow the set-up instructions????? LOL

What you have to do to find the "right" sensitivity for her bed/mattress is calibrate the alarm. First step is to set the sensitivity at the lowest setting. Then let the alarm go off (of course don''t do this with tessa in the bed). Lightly tap the mattress with your hand--as gently as you can---tap tap tap...if the alarm keeps going off, then turn the sensitivity up a little more... then start doing the tap tap tap ever so gently again....keep doing this (turning up the sensitivity/tapping the mattress gently until the alarm quits going off)

What you are trying to do is find the setting where your alarm will not go off under the gentlest taps (which will be a lot like tessa''s breathing).

As for placement, I usually set the sensor pad in the center of the bed.

Try all that and let me know if you get it figured out, if not, we can do more trouble shooting!!!

Good Luck!

Waiting for DH to come home and having a cup of raspberry leaf tea while dinner cooks (i am imagining its uterus toning powers going to work down there).
I just got my co-sleeper put it together--dang that thing was a PITA! We got the mini and it is pretty tiny, but i think i''ll only use it for a few months anyway, since our nursery is directly beside my bedroom.

Did anyone keep their maiden name (or hyphenate) and if so, what name did you give the baby? DH and I decided that we both wanted to hyphenate and would give the baby the double last name (i know, it''s mean, but it was important to us) so we went to do that only to find out that the maiden name has to come first for each of us. So that would mean DH is AAA-BBB and i would be BBB-AAA, since that doesn;t solve anything I ended up hyphenating by myself , but now i don;t know what to do about the baby''s name?! We could go for a legal name change (instead of a marital change) but that is a big process and we don''t have time now...sigh, i am sure no one has a clear-cut solution, but thanks for letting me vent!

Janine--as others have mentioned, pick and choose your battles as to what to avoid in pregnancy. You can drive yourself nutty. I was super strict the first 14 weeks or so (while all the major developmental stuff was happening) and avoided all medications and used organic everything (including beauty products) but as the pregnancy wore on i started to have a cup of coffee here and there, iam using some regular deordorant/beauty products and i eat junk food on a daily basis (worse than prior to pregnancy!) 9 months is too long to avoid everything IMO

tacori, i would probably have them engrave the side, away from the sizing bar. what if tessa has smaller hands than you and the ring has to be sized down and the engraving was on the sizing bar? it would have to be removed and i''m sure she wouldn''t want to do that.

jas12- can''t help you much regarding the name thing b/c i took hubby''s and all are kids have his last name. however, my step-mom did not change her name when she married my dad, didn''t even hyphenate, just kept her name and they had a son. He has my dad''s last name. Obviously, do whatever makes you comfortable though.

awww....good point MrsS. Plus I think it would look cool on the side. Should I do her name AND birthdate or just her first name?

I think it would be cool to do her name and birth date b/c that is really what the ring is representing

So that would be $60 for engraving. Is that what it normally costs?

Ok, seriously, when will my hair STOP falling out?!?! This is getting insane!!!

tacori, if i remember correctly it was a year b/f it seemed my hair stopped just falling out
6.gif

as for the engraving costs...the last thing i had engraved was my hubby''s wedding band and I honestly do not remember how much it cost. you could probably call around a few jewelers to see how much they charge and see if the $5 a letter charge is standard.

A year?!? I am going to be bald!

A year?!? I am going to be bald!
7.gif

aw tacori, you won''t be bald. I always thought the reason you loose so much after the baby is born is because you actually don''t shed while preggo which is why some women say their hair gets thick and vibrant. then post-baby it comes out by the handfuls. It may not have been a year, but it was quite a while. I have naturally curly hair though and seem to lose a lot even when i''m not post-preggo so that could have been part of it too.

Jas 12 - I kept my "maiden name". Miller has a hypenated last name, with my last name first. No matter what you do, people will be idiots about it. For example, my FIL refuses to use my son''s last name, and instead uses his last name.

Hi All! Thank you so much for your book, DVD, and needlepoint sampler suggestions. I can''t wait. In my mind, I look at the pregnancy/birth thing like the wedding and its preparation, and the parenting like the marriage. Which should I really be most prepared for? Obviously not the 30 minutes (hahaha) that I''m in labor. Although I ain''t going into that unawares.

I am constantly amazed and thrilled with the quality and quantity of information on this thread. Y''all are life savers! The diversity of experiences is really exciting!

I''m off to Target today fer some fat pants. Whoo.

No belly shots yet. We''ll see if I''m up for it later today.

Stay well, mamas.

Jas, I always called the maternity store, the "fat store". Can you tell I hated the clothes!!!

I actually didn''t mind the clothes. At least they were comfortable!

I am bummed about our monitor. I don''t think the angel care will work for us b/c Tessa wiggles SOOO much in her crib. It will be impossible to keep her on top of the sensor. BTW I figured we wouldn''t have much interference b/c our homes aren''t right on top of each other and my direct neighbors don''t have little kids...well as soon as I turned off our nursery unit I heard a different baby! I must be careful what we say in nursery now!
23.gif

LitChick--forgot to mention thanks for the info on the baby whisperer--i don''t know much about her so i''ll give it a quick scan and see if it fits my personality--i really have a feeling i won''t be into the parenting books in general, but we''ll see.
Also, i think we will hyphenate the baby''s name as well. I know what you mean about ppl being idiots with name changes. I''ve experienced friends outright laugh when DH said he was going to hyphenate as well (and it was his idea!). I also can''t get over the # of friends/family who automatically address things to me in my husband''s name now that we are married. I never assume a woman has taken her spouse''s name. I check first. It''s not that i am offended or anything, just surprised.

Jas--i clearly remember that first day of preggo clothing shopping--part of you is excited b/c, well, you are pregnant and need a whole new cute, sexy, ''show off that bump'' wardrobe for the exciting time, right? Wrong! .... you get in the change room, look at your blobby belly and it feels more like shopping for post-xmas weight gain cover-up garments! No cuteness to behold just yet. I got away with the elastic band trick and a bella band for a long time, but you should see my get-up now! I have the full-panel stretchy band hiked up to the boobs, and since i wear tight shirts you can usually see the ''evidence'' (the line of material) poking thru so no one is fooled into thinking i have regular pants on
5.gif
....oh, don''t be jealous, in time you too can experience this wardrobe!

I got my fat pants at Target too. I got some for work and also 2 pairs of jeans to wear out. At home I mostly wear my jammies!
5.gif
Kohl''s also has maternity clothes that aren''t too expensive, but they don''t have a huge selection. My mom found me two shirts there on clearance and got them for me.

I got away with wearing my regular pants for a bit too since I was thin to begin with. I would use a rubberband and loop it around the button on my low-rise jeans and that was great until I got too big to even get the jeans on.
14.gif
A lot of my pre-preggo shirts fit, but they are not long enough to cover the panel so they are also collecting dust in the closet.

Is anyone else starving lately? Gosh I feel like I eat all the time and I''m sooo hungry! I''m hungry right now and it''s only 9:30am. I haven''t been brave enough to step on the scale so I don''t know how much I''ve gained since my last appt. I just feel so......round.

I hit the 20-week mark tomorrow! Yay! Halfway there already. I''d say I''m still mostly comfortable but I''ve been getting nosebleeds nearly every day and I''ve had a cold for almost 2 weeks now. I have to use three pillows to sleep at night and we kicked the pugs out of our bed a few weeks ago because they were interfering. The baby''s movement is still sporadic but it seems to be getting stronger so I think that''s a good thing.

Jess

jackiejas, have fun maternity shopping. target actually has some really cute maternity things. my sister just got the cutest top from there. I''m too close to justify buying anything else at this point but maternity clothes have really come a long way since i was preggo with my first. I actually don''t mind the clothes either. they are comfortable and I always try to get up, shower, put on make-up etc. to look as nice as I can. i just feel better about myself then when i''m a total slob. it''s helps alter the I''m as huge as an elephant feeling
41.gif

tacori- i didn''t use the angelcare monitor with either of my girls and i won''t with Jake either. if tessa is too wiggly to use it, i really do think she''ll be fine. the highest rate (unless they have changed it recently) of sids is between 2-4 months and she''s already past that. I did do what I could in terms of crib/bedding etc. but beyond that there really is only so much we can do. I''m amazed that i survived my blanket/stuffed animal filled crib, tummy sleeping infancy
41.gif

diva: congrats on the half-way mark. i would go through spirts where i was just so hungry and could not get full. i didn''t really have any major cravings but if someone mentioned something that sounding good it would be all i could think about until i got it. we''ve got this place here that makes chicken/pork/turkey BBQ with a white BBQ sauce. it is soooo yummy. one of the mom''s in my mom club mentioned the BBQ at Whole foods and how great it is and I could not stop thinking about the white sauce. So, guess what was for dinner that night
18.gif

i don''t think i commented earlier in the thread but you look great.

Tacori, she doesn''t have to stay on top of the sensor, neither of my kids did/do. Did you adjust the sensitivity like I explained? Your srnsitivity is probably too low.

Boy, this thread moves fast!!! I'm trying to keep up but it's hard!!!

janine, I grew up in NJ (Bergen County) and while I love it and always thought I would raise my family there, we're just having too much fun in the city! I don't see how we can stay here forever but we're going to drag it out as long as possible! I hear you on the space issues though. We actually rent a storage space--most of our fab wedding gifts are there, like my gorgeous Kitchenaid mixer that I go and visit once in a while! I also keep my clothes there and do a summer/winter exchange which is a total pain but I am a clothes horse and while we have great closets, it's still not enough room for me and my stuff!
23.gif
My best friend and her husband just had a baby and they live in a studio that they own. We went to visit the other day and surprisingly, they are making it work. They have the crib in the corner, a bouncy seat and very few extras. They know they can't stay there long but it will be ok for a while. I also think renting isn't the worst thing on earth if you need some more space. Sure, it's temporary, but it can buy you some time while you figure out what to do next. I know it's tough but try not to lose sleep over this. Everything has a way of working itself out--at least that's what I keep telling myself!
2.gif

And the advice that everyone else has given you about the what to do/what not do when you're pregnant has been great. I'm the more laid back type so I couldn't get too militant about some of this stuff. I don't drink coffee or soda but I didn't give up chocolate and they say if you eat chocolate while you're pregnant, you'll have a happy baby! I ate deli meats from time to time if I knew they were from a reputable place, dyed my roots, got manicures and pedicures and towards the end, indulged in a glass of wine every once in a while. You really have to do what you feel comfortable with but you should check out the website that Tacori mentioned if you want to get some real information.

Jas12, I kept my maiden name. Lily uses DH's last name but her birth certificate, social security card, passport have her full name as: Lily middle name my maiden name dh's last name. So she officially has 4 names but only uses DH's last name.

Tacori, I can't believe Tessa rolled!!! Is she doing it all the time now? Wait till she can do it both ways. And then wait till she figures out that rolling can get her from point A to point B!!! The fun begins!

On the hair loss thing, I have TONS of hair but I started shedding like crazy at around 4 months post partum. It's still falling out but not as much. Oh yeah, maybe because I'm pregnant again--duh.
3.gif
BUt don't worry, you won't go bald!! It grows back!!

By the way, fot the first time ever I saw a commercial for Cakesters last night and thought of you and broke out into hysterical laughter! DH thought I was nuts but now I'm seriously tempted to go and get some. They look DELISH!

Push presents. Well, I think I talked about what I wanted and then never really followed up. It ended up being my push, anniversary and Valentine's day present all in one(anniversary was Feb. 4 so I don't mind!). Anyway, it's a charm necklace. It has a silver charm with Lily's name on the front and her bday on the back, then another charm that is silver with a gold heart with dh's and my initials on the back and then a small emerald charm for Lily's birth stone. I'm actually really in love with it and am excited to add to it. I don't know if I'm allowed to post where it came from but if you look up Heather Moore you will find what I'm talking about. The charms aren't cheap but they are super cute and sentimental. DH did a great job (with a little guidance from me!). I wear it every day and just love it! But I'm super excited to see what Tacori and mrssalvo end up with. I think I'd like a couple of rings too...
2.gif

I used my own common sense in deciding what to do/not do while pregnant. I dyed my hair, ate deli meat, cheese, pretty much anything, drank coffee (although less), used Tylenol, etc. The only thing I really changed was no alcohol and no allergy/sinus meds.

Maternity clothes - I hated those things. I didn''t realize how much I loved my clothes until I could not wear them anymore (or ever again, for that matter. Since baby, I have dropped 2 sizes, so I had to give away most of my pre-baby clothes).

Push presents - I am a huge fan. As you know, my push present is a 3 stone asscher ring. But I did drug free, so I get a really good push present (ducking for cover!!!)
31.gif

Diver, I haven''t had a chance to test it out but I will! I promise! These past few days have been a blur with taking care of the monster and work (when it rain, it pours right???)

MrsS, that is good to know she is past the danger zone. It is so scary. My MIL ALWAYS puts her down with a blanket even though she KNEWS she isn''t suppose to
20.gif
I am constantly taking it off. I mentioned something about it for when she is here in April (b/c I won''t be here to watch over it) and she said it will be warm by then so she won''t need one. Hopefully it is....She was sassy about the mesh bumper and I had to explain several times that it is *mesh* so air flows, the pretty one isn''t, blah blah...I swear she thinks I am just over-reacting but this is one of the battles I CHOOSE to fight! That and plastics are my big thing. I threw out the cheap pacis she gave me.

Curly, she did it again this morning. I have yet to actually see her but she looked very shocked and confused when I found her on her belly in her crib. That commercial is funny. I love them
18.gif
With a big glass of cold milk....heaven! But I have been a good girl and haven''t had one for awhile. DH seemed okay with ordering the ring next month!
36.gif
It will be my push pressie/1st mother''s day pressie. I can''t wait to *finally* get it!!!!

LC, not all of us is as strong as you.
2.gif
I don''t regret getting an epi AT ALL! I regret not pushing that button to give myself MORE pain relief. I have learned my lesson for the next one! And hopefully next time I will not get an infection. That was no fun at all!
15.gif
Oh and not close to 3 hours of heavy pushing! Talk about hemis! *ouch*

RE: Maternity clothes, I have mentioned this before but my fav place to get them (and baby clothes) is Old Navy. They fit me well. Target pants did NOT work for me. Plus Old Navy sells pants in "short" (and "long" if that is an issue with you) so saved me MORE money b/c I didn''t have to hem them. But they are all boxed up now.

Tacori--can''t wait to see your ring when it arrives! And girl, you earned that thing (and then some)!

Curly--your charm sounds beautiful--i think i would like something like that. As my ''something blue'' on my wedding day i wore a little charm of two baby-booties with blue pom poms on them that my MIL recieved when my DH was born..so cute.

...........

So i had my 37 week appnt today and sh*tty news (pun intended)--i tested positive for Strep B
39.gif
. I know it''s not a big deal from a health perspective but I really, really don''t want to have to take antibiotics during the birth--one, i want to avoid an IV, two, i don''t want penicilin in my blood stream during and after the birth esp while nursing and three, I don''t handle antibiotic well (I was once hospitalized for an infection that developed b/c of antibiotic use) Iam going to do more research into my options. It''s tricky b/c obviously i don''t want to put the baby at any risk, but i am also weary of these so called ''precautions'' in obstetrics.
I also gained a few lbs which is not surprising since i hadn''t since early Jan (just weird it was all in one week after 2 months of no gain!?). I''ve reached the 30 lbs-ish mark so i am at the high end of normal and that is fine by me
I am so hungry all the time! I can''t eat big meals but i can graze alllll day--anyone else notice this near the end? I was hoping/expecting the opposite. Nope, haven''t lost my desire for food this entire pregnancy!
Speaking of which, dinner calls....

Jas, that sucks about the strep B! I know you have strong ideas of how you want your labor. Be careful though, this is why there is *such* high % of moms who are disappointed with their labor. I know you will do whatever is right for the baby. Talk to your doc about your concerns. I have never heard of them NOT giving antibiotics if you are having a VB with Strep B.
7.gif
On the plus side you are almost done!
36.gif
And you weight is awesome! I gained 50 lbs
