Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Kay CONGRATULATIONS!!! Don''t worry, at that stage, your embryo isn''t even attached to a placenta to get anything to cross it & harm it. I think the placenta takes over (and toxins cross the placenta to the fetus) at about 8 or 9 weeks. Perhaps someone on here knows and can jump in.

But that said...even when I knew I was pg...I colored my hair (and yes, ammonia was involved), painted my nails, drank coffee, etc... I wasn''t worried about that stuff. Ibuprofen is a no-no, but, its a bigger problem in late pregnancy, so the chance that it affected your baby is practically nil. Don''t worry at all.

New Years a year ago (not this last one) I had no idea I was pg & got HAMMERED on French 75''s. (gin & champagne). Oh man, I must''ve had 7 of them. Little girl is just fine. LOL. I wasn''t even late yet, and we had missed the window, I had no symptoms, so I didn''t think I should worry. Hooo boy.

We all beat ourselves up about what we did, ate, or drank before getting our BFP, so don''t be too hard on yourself. That little bean in there is just fine! HUGS!

As for insomnia...well...that''s pregnancy. LOL. Ask your doctor if you can take Benadryl to sleep. There are somethings you can take, so don''t think you have to suffer, just consult your OB & you two can weigh the odd/risks/and perhaps find a safe course of treatment for you.

Warm milk & cookies though run a close second! Calcium for baby! LOL......

Where did you get ON is closing? I looked on google and there is no news item? Linky please! I will be so depressed!!

Tacori:
First off...what a beautiful girl. I adore Tessa. You must be so proud. Hey...Delaney is jealous of her hair. lol ...as for your hair, mine started falling out a few weeks before yours I think....(do you remember?) and its just now starting to taper off. LORDY! I swear, I think my front looks a little thin...its a riot. Well not really...I''m so sick of having to untangle my hairs from Delaney''s fists. And my hair is so long these days, its down past my bra strap now, that''s its truly a mess on my floors, in my brushes, etc. Just make sure to check your vacuum cleaner brushes, it can burn out the motor if it gets all tangled around the beater bar. I''ve had to cut my hair out of my new vacuum twice already. For cryin'' out loud.

Ok...my stinky self needs a shower. bbl ladies...

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Jas that sounds horrible. For me the infection was worse than any side effects from the antibiotics. I know you will figure out what the right thing for *you* is.

Lili, I think I lost hair while preggo too but it''s REALLY coming out now! It is seriously everywhere!

Diver, hopefully my hair will stop falling out soon too. I''ve had to cut my hair out of the brush too! So embarrassing! D is a cutie too!
30.gif
as is Jake. She''ll have lovely hair soon! Thanks for the Tessa compliments!!

ella, if you check back in can you post the link where you read Old navy was closing. i just googled it and there isn't really any info other than a few random stores, but not all of them. doesn't seem like they are going out of business or anything.

ETA: just saw diver asked the same thing re: oldnavy

I couldn''t find anything on them going out of business either...

Just got back from big u/s. We are having a GIRL. Everything is measuring on time. The u/s shows a due date of July 29, so it''s 5 days ahead. She was moving a lot, and we saw her kicking me a lot. It''s amazing seeing the baby again.

Congratulations on your little girl! Just last night DH commented that is was funny that we both keep referring to the baby as "she." I explained to him about the girl swimmers being the endurance swimmers and since we BD a few days before I thought I was ovulating, and not that day or right after, it was probably a girl. Of course, then he accused me of stacking the deck, lol. If we do have a girl, she will have him so wrapped around her little finger.

Thanks for all of the reassurances, ladies. Looking around the internet, there are a frightening number of things that are supposed to be "dangerous." It never occured to me to change my face products (not anti-acne) or deodorant! There is no way I can go without painting my nails for the next 7.5 months. I just recently starting dyeing my hair auburn again, and I love it, but I will probably wait to talk to my Dr. before I get it done again (it is semi-permanent color that fades out over 8 weeks, so no roots, plus it is close to my natural color, just more interesting).

When did you have your first appointment with your doctor? Did you use your primary care physician for pregnancy care initially, or start seeing an OB right away? This is probably TMI, but before I realized I was pregnant my Dr. told me I had another abnormal pap and needed to see GYN for follow up testing (I had a colposcopy and biopsy last year, but it was negative for cervical cancer). I called last Friday for an appointment and also told the nurse I was pregnant. The Dr. was on vacation until Tuesday, but was supposed to call me then to let me know when I should come in. I have heard nothing so far. I''m starting to think I should just call my regular Dr. re the pregnancy. It is so hard to call during business hours because I do not want anyone at my work to know I am PG. My boss will freak, so I am trying to delay that conversation.

Tacori, what do you mean by this?

The current tank tops are great. There are two holes (one for each boob) and a clip at each strap. You just unsnap, nurse, snap, switch sides. Also b/c there are individual holes they are very supportive (no need for another bra) and no uni-boob look. I am hoping they haven''t changed the design b/c I love the current ones. If they did...oh well...good thing I have 5 of the ones I love.

With retail outlets feeling the crunch from the impending recession, some retailers are seeing fit to close unoperating stores. Sharper Image is closing 90 stores, Talbots is closing kids and mens stores.. there are many stores having issues.

Wait that says they are closing GAP stores and opening *more* Old Navy stores
33.gif
I am confused. Ella said they are closing ONs....

ephemery, glad the spotting has stopped. How scary! I've been craving lots of fruit too. That is really sweet that your mom sent you an edible bouquet! Yummy! Did you end up telling your family and close friends about your pregnancy?

jas, hope you found some cute maternity clothes. Did you get a bella band yet? I feel like my pants are getting tight on me already. I want to wear sweats all the time! Luckily my work is really casual so I can wear almost anything I want. I'm avoiding my jeans cause they are a bit uncomfortable. Maybe I should buy a bella band soon.

Jess, woohoo on the halfway mark! How exciting!

Tacori, yay! I can't wait until you get your ring! Tessa is so cute!

Jas12, I'm sorry to hear you tested positive for Strep B.

Welcome Kay! Congrats again! Don't worry about what you did before you knew you were pregnant. I drank a lot of green tea before I conceived and possibly a little after I conceived and at first I worried about that. But really it's not worth worrying over. Just do what you can now that you know you are pregnant.
1.gif
For my first appointment, I went straight to the OB. Hope the doctor’s office calls you back soon.

qtiekiki, a girl! How exciting!

What is this about Old Navy closing!? Whaaa? I was looking forward to buying some cheap maternity clothes there. I hope all the stores don't close soon.

No big update for me. I'm into week 7. I feel like I've been sick for the last 1.5-2 weeks. I have had tiredness and on and off queasiness, which has been more on lately. Eating is such a pain now. I'm hungry all the time but once I start eating, I don't want to eat anymore. I've been feeling some odd things lately. Some dull pain and some sharper pains, like a tightening feeling. I guess it's my uterus stretching?

snlee, one of the things I never knew about pregnancy is the cramping and pain. Totally normal. Don''t worry. All your symptoms are normal and will disappear soon (for awhile anyways
2.gif
) I lost 3 lbs my first trimester b/c I felt so hung over and could hardly eat a thing. Then I ate more than my hubby the rest of the time
20.gif
I was like a bottomless pit.

ephemery, I missed your post about you spotting! So sorry! Glad you are doing better.

Kay, I don''t have a primary doc, only my OB. I went at just under 4 weeks for confirmation. It was too faint so they did blood work (and 48 hours later). My first appointment was 6 weeks and some change. Had a full workup (pap, internal, etc) and first u/s.

You all had me flipped out about Old Navy closing. I sent an email to a friend who is a manager with them. Here is her response...

That''s absolutely 100% not true, so don''t fret. The company has rolled out a new prototype store (two of them open in Vegas early this year, if they haven''t already) and they''re absolutely awesome looking from what i''ve seen. The company has hired Todd Oldham to design stuff, so a lot of what you''re seeing in store is more fashion-forward instead of basics like you used to see.

The company''s profits are down across all three brands, but the economy sucks. You''d be hard-pressed to find a retailer right now that isn''t. That being said, they''re still financially healthy and have money in the bank. Old Navy is the most profitable for the company and definitely not going anywhere. Gap is the one taking the biggest hit.

PHEW!!!!

Kay- if you look you will hear that everything is bad for your baby. you really have to use your own judgement and moderation. some women are terribly careful, no acne creams, no pedicures, no hotdogs and no suntanning...and other women disregard most of the ''advice''. It seems they both have pretty healthy babies. I drank coffee and soda (not daily) got my hair dyed and even went to disneyland while preggers...

Q- YAY! I''m so happy about your baby girl. My best friend from wisconsin had her US today and is also having a girl!!! Guess its a day for girls!

Kay--
I didn''t go to my primary care doctor.
Just went straight to the OB when I found out that I was preggo.
Most doctors will not see you until you are 7 wks along,
but of course, every office is different.
Your OB should do a routine pap smear if they don''t have already the pertinent info on your health.
Part of the initial prenatal appt entails getting all your bloodwork done and a cervix check, so I think you can go straight to your OB.

Jas12--
Did your doctor tell you when he''ll discussing inducing?

PHEW!!!!

That is GREAT news! Thanks for checking!

Hubby saw the ON news yesterday somewhere online but didn''t remember where, so I googled it and found what I posted here -- sorry if it''s a false alarm, but it was definitely making news yesterday!! But I like MsF''s source and info better
21.gif

Kay, congrats and welcome!!

And Qtiekiki, whoo hoo for a little girly girl!!! (That''s what we call K a lot, Ms. Girly Girl
9.gif
)

Jas, I forgot to say that I''m sorry about the strep results. I don''t know much about it so I can''t offer much on the issue other than my sympathy, so you got that, sweetie! ANd speaking of sweetie, that''s awesome that your hubby sent you flowers to work -- what a guy!

I don''t even want to talk about hair loss ... aaaghh!! And I just cut my hair too and don''t really like it, and I forgot that my hair is actually MORE work when it''s shorter (darn cowlicks sticking out all over), so now I *have* to blowdry and iron it ... grreeeaaat.

Some tough days here. Thursday & Friday I was just wiped out. I cannot wait to get my energy back. I was a fretting and fussing that I''ve gained about 4 pounds since my last dr. appt and that I don''t want "the weight talk" from the wackjob nurse they have or my doctor on Monday when I go back. Ha. I thought that was my biggest issue.

I get a message on my phone at 5:30 Friday (the ringer was off all day) from the Dr. telling me she has the results of my blood test (I have a faxed copy as well) and that "everything mostly looks good, but there are some things we need to discuss. I think you have an appointment coming up. If not, it''s really important that you come and see me next week."

So now I get to wait until Monday.

I hate this crap...my last OB/GYN would leave really doom-filled messages and then when I finally spoke with him, it was either "Oh, we''ll just watch this," or "You need to have a procedure."

I get why they won''t leave detailed messages and stuff, but really, call me the freak back.

DH and I looked at my results and from what we see, there is a slight chance I have a mild case of mono (which I''m sure I picked up from school). That wouldn''t be a big deal considering I''m not dehydrated or feverish or losing weight. Just tired. Of course, neither of us are doctors and we figured this all out from google, and for all I know I have a giant spacecraft growing in my elbow, but really, this is awful.

I''m not worried (I refuse to "put that out there") so much as I am p*ssed. So Monday I go for NF testing, and then over to my doc. Should be a regular gigglefest.

On a lighter note, I went maternity shopping yesterday. Allow me to say I have the worst Target in the world. There was ONE rack of maternity stuff...two styles of pants (both of which were about 4 inches too long), one cute skirt, and bathing suits. Quite an outfit. We headed over to the Motherhood store and JACKPOT baby. I forgot what it feels like to be comfortable in pants (I''ve put on eight pounds, most of it tummy.) I blew quite the cash wad there, although I do wonder what is the deal with dressing mommies-to-be like they are five years old? Too many shirts with ruffled sleeves and peter pan type collars. But enough really cute, trendy stuff (and PANTS! YEA!) that I don''t feel like a giant sea cow anymore. Much. HOWEVER, I can tell that some of these pants will not stretch enough (although it''s likely I''m supposed to wear them under my belly at that point.) Someone please send me a circus tent and put me out of my misery.

Here''s my attempt at catching up:

Yea Diva on hitting 20 weeks! That''s great! I hope your cold is gone gone gone.
Litchick -- I hear ya on maternity clothes. My guess is you are a pretty fit, hot mama! I am one of those people who really has to work hard not to be pudgy, so I''m guessing I''m going to be living in my fat pants for awhile post babies. If I could sew, I would make myself much more trendy (without spending the big $$$$) I hope Miller is feeling better. LOL at "nipple nazis"
Jas12 -- So sorry about the Strep B. Ugh. I''m sure everything will work out, but this seems like one of those "too much" things, ya know? I hope you are able to enjoy the fact that you don''t have to wake up at 0 dark thirty tomorrow!
Tacori -- Tessa is just gorgeous! You are really capturing some great moments with her!
KAY! Congratulations! That''s wonderful news!
Hi Lili!
Ella -- Thanks for the twin info. Whether true or not, you got me poking around the ON site, and that''s a good thing!
TGal -- I''ve had numbness and swelling in ONE finger for about 2 weeks (off and on). It''s just annoying (and a little painful) that I can''t crook that finger beyond a certain point. It''s not consistent and I''m sure it''s fluid retention. But I''m with you on that. Awesome on being the perfect patient! Come be my body double!
QT -- Congrats on having a little girl! That''s great news!
Snlee -- I am really using the bella bands quite a bit. However, either I used to wear really tight pants or my belly is a busting out all over because I can barely fit into my old pants anymore. Jeans are the worst. I have a feeling I will be using them quite a bit. They''re expensive but I''m wearing them every day. I had the pains, too, around the same time. Stretching is my guess. I hope the MS is better.

TTFN!

aw Jas, i''m so sorry about the dr. call. what a way to head into the weekend
38.gif
. that said, they blood test for just about everything so try to be too freaked out. it might just be anemia or slight mono like you reseached. keep us posted and good luck at the dr. on monday.

not much new to report here. my lower back and leg pain are just awful. by far the worst of my pregnancies. i go back to the ob on tues. and am hoping for some really good news like the baby has dropped and your dialating, athough this is week 36 for me so baby probably needs another week at least of baking time. I''m SOOOOO ready though and would welcome labor at this point!! we even had an unexpected 4 inches of snow yesterday so I buddled up the girls and we went sledding. I even took a turn hoping the bumping by trigger something...no dice...

off to a b-day party...hope all you other mommies are doing well..

Jas, I am glad you found some cute clothes! Sorry to hear about the strange message. I agree, if it was serious they wouldn''t have left it in a message. Don''t worry!

MrsS, hope the doctor has some good news for you! Didn''t you say they will induce you before 40 weeks? You are ALMOST done! I can''t wait to "meet" Jake.

Hi momies and preggies

Just got in from my last road trip--kinda stupid of DH and I, i bought concert tickets for Charlie for christmas with the plan that i probably would not join him (concert was in Toronto-4 hr drive) well, i decided i wanted to go. I wanted to see my sister one last time before she gets ''the call'' when i go into labor. So we headed out early yesterday morning and drove straight into one of the heaviest snow storms of the season--nearly 17 inches of snow in about 18 hours, and a dead cell phone to boot!--yay, not smart, but all was fine and i am back. My sister is so cute she kept kissing my belly and remarking over and over ''OMG you are so big'' (ya, not my fave expression to hear, but forgiveable at nearly 38 weeks
5.gif

Jas--ick--i hope you get more info tomorrow, what an awful thing to think about over the weekend!
nice that you got some good mat clothing! Check out H & M as well--my best jeans came from there

Lili--my OB will discuss induction around the 41-42 week mark. I don''t think I''ll agree to induce unless there is a medical indication that i should do so. I am prepared for the possibility of going over. I know i have a long cycle and due dates are usually calculated on a 28 day cycle--which i never seem to follow....... that said, over 3 weeks from now, if i am still preggo, i may be changing my mind!

Gosh, I keep learning more and more new things. So, Jas, if your cycle is longer, your delivery date is effected by that. Hmm. In what what? Would it make delivery date be further off or closer? I have a really poor mathematical mind and I can''t wrap myself around it well enough to figure it out (no snickering, please).
9.gif

Jas, I really enjoyed being induced. DH and I went to the hospital calmly. No frantic driving. No wondering if my contrax were close enough together. No hurried phone calls to the doctor. I guess I like things planned. Plus I could answer their million and one questions pain free and relaxed. I would totally (and probably) do it again. In fact Tessa would have gotten sick if she had stayed in me much longer (meconium (sp?) in my water) and if she was much bigger...I probably would have had a c-sec. So sometimes a little medical intervention saves you from a bigger one later.
2.gif

Awe jas, what a cruddy to start your weekend.
I agree with MrsS and Tacori, it is probably not something serious else they''ll be trying to reach you or have you come first thing in the morning.
Good luck though and definitely keep us posted.
Anyway, that''s great that you were able to find something cute and comfy at Motherhood!
I coulnd''t find anything fitting at Target and Motherhood myself. Old Navy is the store for me :)
Love, love their yoga pants -- I practically live in those
1.gif
Oh, don''t buy too many maternity just yet cuz you''ll definitely need to buy some more once your belly ballooned up
9.gif

MrsS, sorry to hear about your leg and back pain, but wow you are so close.
Hope you get the news you want on Tuesday! And I can''t believe that you guys are still getting snow at this time.
It was so hot the last couple of days down here for us. Makes me appreciate the fact that I am not in my third tri during the summer.

Jas12, your sister is too cute. She''ll be such a good auntie. Is she planning on coming down to see you when you have you baby?
Wow, you are tough to make that 4-hr drive to Toronto for the concert and see your sister. I can''t even survive the daily commute to and from work!
Well, let''s hope none of us will have to have that talk with our doctor.
Has your little one dropped yet? Mine is still pretty high, but her head is definitely down though and the dr said that she''s not going anywhere.
