Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

lili and t-gal, don''t feel discouraged. i really don''t think it means much at all. my friend walked around 3 weeks dilated at a 4 and was over due, delivering at 41 weeks. so, although it seems like there should be progress, who really knows. I went in for my 37 week check up with my first, no dropping, no effacing and no dilating only to have my water break that night. the babies come when they come. the good news really is, we are all full-term now and it really can be anyday for any of us with healthy full-term babies.

LOL, yeah I know MrsS. I''m actually hoping the baby doesn''t come for another week or so. I''m just not ready now. TGuy and I have always joked that because of the freaky nature of TTot''s conception, we are going to have an April Fool''s baby. That''s not for another almost two weeks yet. And I already have stretchmarks so I am not worried about getting those late in the game.

Confession of the day: I was sitting at my docs yesterday and there were kids in the waiting room. I was observing different things...none of them bad. They were just active and babbling, and one older girl was playing hand games with her father. And I sat there thinking...I''m not ready. I just don''t know if I am going to like being a mom.

ahhhh Tgal!!! don't worry.i felt the same way (not sure if i was ready to be mommy yet), but trust me the MINUTE u hold ur little bundle in ur arms, all concers/uncertainty/fear goes RITE out the window...there is NO other feeling that can match that moment of pure joy and happiness to see Ttot after all these months :)

I think you''ll go soon MrsS. How did it go with your second?? Was it like this?

TGal,
It''s normal to have worries, but I think you''ll be a great Mom.

hey tacori, I just noticed you have 9000+ and some change on your posts!!! OMG!! you are so close to 10k!!! and I''ve been a member since 2002 and you have ''only'' been on here since 2005....hmmm, I must be lazy, I only have 1600 posts. LOL....

Haha! I have *no* life!
3.gif

Thanks ladies. Honestly, I don''t worry about being a bad mom...I think I''ll be OK in that department. I''m just more worried about whether I''ll LIKE it. There are just so many thing kids do/are interested in that I don''t care for. But geez, you''d think I would have thought about this before my flukey conception....

40+ weeks: Honestly now that Tessa is here it doesn''t bother me that I was a week late. Besides I would try to hold out for April if I were you ladies. Better birthstone and you know it is ALL about the birthstone! LOL!
11.gif

Stretch Marks: I noticed some AFTER I started losing some weight!
32.gif
I got them on my sides and a few on my stomach. At first I was upset, now...what am I going to do. She''s worth it and it isn''t like I am in a rush to get into a bikini anytime soon (11 more lbs to go! I can''t believe I have lost 39 lbs. That is more than all of you have gained!!!!) My friend''s sister got them REALLY bad and you can''t see them anymore. So I am hoping that is how mine will be too. They are already starting to lighten.

Belly Button: I guess I am relieved mine never popped as it looks 100% normal. I know a girl who said her''s is so messed up she will NEVER wear a bikini again.

MrsS, you are close darling.

I am going out of town (flying alone with her wish me luck) but I will try my hardest to keep up with this thread. Know my thoughts are with all of you. Jas, TGal, & MrsS I hope for record breaking L&Ds. Fast, painless, and incident free. Remember if it is painful it is temporary. If hiccups happen, it''s okay (it was 10+ mins before I got to hold T for the first time. Not like the movies but it''s okay. Her health was the most important thing. I had a whole crew in the room with me! And hearing her *delayed* cry was the most precious sound of all) Give those babies extra kisses and cuddles for me. I can''t wait to see pics and hear ALL the gory details

Really? So all the crap about it returning to normal is not true? That's not good, I've always liked my inner.

lili, I am sure it is rare and I did not see it. She might have been overreacting. *shrug* All I know is her baby is 6 months now and she is very thin. According to her she also got bad stretch marks.

Have a good trip Tacori! Kisses to Tessa for me.

And yes, I don''t care if I have to wait an extra week or not. That means one extra week of precious sleep for me...ahhhhh...
24.gif

Tacori, just post a whole bunch of pix of Tessa to get to your 10,000th post
3.gif

MrsS, I wish you get your easter bunny
2.gif
you don''t need hold out until april for the diamond birthstone since you already got that kicking cushion
9.gif

Tgal, thanks girl! Yes SLEEP as much as possible. Go to the movies. Snuggle with TGuy. Be lazy!

Lili, Ha, that''s an idea! I have about 1,000 of her
20.gif
I am *slightly* obsessed!

Okay MUST get ready for the trip. She isn''t even dressed yet!

lili, my belly button went back in and i didn''t have any stretch marks so it''s another one of the those things that differs woman to woman.

tacori- i hope you have a nice trip. don''t worry, you''ll be fine flying with tessa alone.

TGal
How nice it is that you are still able to sleep at this stage in your pregnancy.
I''m up at least 4 times a night

Anyway, I think April 1st is a cool birthdate to have. No one would ever forget it.

tgal, the good news is, they are not toddlers/kids/teenagers overnight so you have time to grow into them as they grow. there are things i do with my girls and actually enjoy that i never thought i would before i had my kids. my hubby says the same thing. the other day he was home watching lily and i came home to the 2 of them playing Princess Monopoly. who would have thought a 6''3" 43 year old man would enjoy the game and yet he did

it''s just different when it''s your own kids.

Cute as a button and gorgeous as hell as a preggo.
Belly button back to normal.
No stretch mark.
Back to pre-preggo clothes within weeks.

Tacori, great job on losing the baby weight and yay on the fading of the stretch marks. Good luck on the flight and enjoy your weekend!!

Ha, no kidding. But I can''t hate a fellow preggo. Plus I can''t complain about my own pregnancy!

Yeah lili, I''m lucky when it comes to sleep. I went to bed at midnight last night and woke up at 8 (slept in a little today). I realized with a start that I did not get up once last night. Normally I get up once in the middle of the night to go pee but I slept the whole night through last night. It was niiiiiiiiiiiiice.

my belly button is still very much an inny. But it was way way deep prepreggo so I would have been surprised if it popped out. Still, you never know what will happen in 2 weeks....

MrsS, they say things change when it''s your own, so I will have to take their word for it!

Hehe, that may be the last time you sleep through the night TGal

Full Moon tonight
2.gif

Lili--i am peeing every hour or two at night as well--i''ve perfected the ''in the dark''--aim--pee--''waddle back to bed'' routine.

MrsS--i am jealous of cm''s right now
3.gif
just sounds nicer than "closed shut'' even if it doesn''t mean anything. i hope for your sake jake decides to make an easter appearance

Tacori--have a great easter weekend trip!

Tgal--i have always worked with kids and i still worry that i won''t like being a mom--i think it''s just a normal fear. DH doesn''t get it--i think he''s already in luv and it''s almost like i refuse to get overly excited or optomistic about the whole thing until this baby actually arrives--i am still in ''adbstract concept'' zone. I think he''s also scarily naive regarding what parenting will really be like, whereas I have PS to give me a healthy dose of fear each day
2.gif

...........
So i am all about wives tale induction right now (gives me something to do) --I have no trouble talking DH into DTD every couple of days--has to be the most unromantic nooky imaginable--but we get a good laugh out of it--funny how the same ''stuff'' that gets you preggo is supposed to get you out of it!!
Red raspberry tea is a farce in my books--not even a damn BH contraction from that stuff
The spicy peanut sauce i made for dinner last night, although tasty, nary a contraction did it produce
Exercise has always been part of the routine so that''s not working,
and last but not least
My mom just ''treated'' me to accupuncture this aft--by treated I mean she has a strong motive behind it. The Dr, was so nice. She told me i had a great pregnancy pulse and good muscle tone and that i was probably going to have a boy based on how i was carrying. She also mentioned that I should not eat or drink anything cold for the first couple of months after birth (don''t know if i can pull that off!) I couldn''t understand her very well (she''s recently moved here from Beijing) but something about the joints being ''open'' still and if new moms are exposed to cold it sets in their joints and causes problems years down the road. She said all women in china are taken care of for at least 100 days after the birth to ensure their energy and warmth has returned. Any PS''s who follow Chinese medicine care to elaborate on that? Interesting stuff....
I was in Beijing years ago and got a book on chinese medicine but i can''t find it now....

Oh Tgal--forgot to add: yes, i ''ve heard about the "post-baby'' stretchmarks as well---WTF--that''s just not cosmically fair. I better go knock on some wood b/c i know that just cuz i mentioned i didn''t get any, they''ll pop up.....

It''s funny, I spent my whole life working with children and loving every minute of it... couldn''t wait to someday have my own. But I actually got to a point in my early 20s where I felt oversaturated... like I''d been there, done that, and all the novel, fun stuff wasn''t so novel anymore. Plus I SO appreciated all the other aspects of my life that it was suddenly hard to imagine fitting a child into that.

Obviously I''m thrilled to be pregnant now, but I do feel a bit more balanced than some people I know, and people on other forums... who are just "baby, baby, baby!" all the time. We went to a party at DH''s cousins'' house the other night, and I couldn''t handle all the constant baby/kid talk... it was so BORING to me. His cousin brought out this tiny jean jacket with some sort of monkey sewn on the back, and went on and on about how cute it was for about 10 minutes, and I truly had NOTHING to say. I finally escaped upstairs and called my BFF (single and definitely NOT baby-crazed) to try and regain some sanity.

I''m sure I''ll be in love with my own child, I''m just not convinced I''ll ever be THAT in love with the monkey patch on a jean jacket. Which makes me feel bad, sometimes... but I just see more value in incorporating this child into our already-rich lives, than in changing our lives completely as a result of the child. Yes, I know many things will change... I''m not that naive.
5.gif
It''s just really, really important to me to keep a balance. If I plan to raise a confident, happy child with a strong sense of individuality, you better believe I''m going to work pretty darn hard at maintaining my own individuality... and I think that''s possible.

2.gif
I''ve never been into baby things or think all of it is "cute." I just look at it and think, man, that''s a lot of money for such a small item. I have friends that are the opposite...one buys baby clothes and she doesn''t have kids yet (although she has been trying for a long while). Another buys girl clothes but only has a boy and will not be able to have another. She dressed her son up in the stuff once, and still buys girl outfits figuring she can give them away as gifts. By the way, the latter friend is the choc chip cookie waker upper girl.

But ya know...whoda thunk that I''d be into strollers? Can monkey patch gaga be that far behind???
6.gif

Ladies, just wait until the little tots arrive. I was like you - how can these people talk about babies!!! Who cares about the newest baby accessory!!! I DO!!!! I can talk all day about the Knuckleheads clothes (I think we will do a photo shoot this weekend). I can and do talk about other things, but I will admit that there is a lot of talk about the bambino.

Yeah LC...I suppose. I am fine talking about bambinos with other moms because I know they are interested in the subject. But my best friends (who are also my cousins) don''t have kids, so I am hoping to get my normal talk with them...and not bore them myself.

I just saw your crisis thread. I can''t comment on that thread because I don''t know what heels are anymore.
2.gif
My condolences though!!

My goodness, this thread moves quickly. I am enjoying everyone’s photos of bellies and babies.

Mrssalvo, I think you look great. You must normally be a skinny mini if that is +38 for you.

Bobo, sounds like you had a good L&D. 15 minutes of pushing sounds great – where do I sign up for that one? Little B is so cute. Sorry he isn’t letting you sleep much.

Qtiekiki, congrats on making it to the halfway mark! And you are so tiny! You look like you are just gaining in the belly, lucky girl. (I just know every part of my body is going to try to blimp up.)

Sk8rjen, double congrats on the twins!

Jas, how goes the Swedish invasion? Have you killed any of them yet?

Tgal & Jas, I’m just waiting to see who pops first.

Tacori, I hope you have a great trip with Tessa.

I managed to get my first ultrasound moved up to next Monday. I will be at the end of week 11 (I think), so they should be able to see the heartbeat. DH is going with me to see baby’s first picture. I’m both nervous and excited. It still doesn’t seem completely “real” yet because I haven’t seen the doctor.

I am tired of being hung over without the fun of getting drunk the night before. Although, I was sure 9 months w/o wine would be torture, but the very thought of drinking a glass right now makes my stomach turn (as do most other foods). Smells are killing me! Some people in my office building wear way too much perfume/cologne, especially in small elevators! I tried to peel an orange last night and the aroma was too much for me, and that is usually a pleasant smell.

Tacori - Ice Cream?!
18.gif
Say no more, I am on it! Did your L&D nurse by any chance say anything about cupcakes or pie too?

MrsS, yes, I read that about the wide mouth latching. I''ll probably be so paranoid about it, poor TTot is going to get a mouthful of my nipple, breast, and leftover fatty preggo gut for good measure. I''m going for the full body hickey.
ROFL! Maybe that image will get TGuy going.

Haha... but the GADGET factor, TG... can a monkey patch jean jacket ever really have the same gadget factor as all the bells and whistles of a stroller??
3.gif

It's true that I/we are probably being naive to some degree. Wouldn't be the first time!
9.gif
And it's not that I don't think I'll talk about baby stuff ever (honestly, I'll consider under 75% of the time a success!), I just can't imagine totally phasing out ALL my current interests in food and books and wine and TV shows and education and politics and family and friends and psychology and shopping and my cat and everything else. I mean, we were at this party the other night for 4 hours, and it was LITERALLY all kid, all the time... not a single other topic was raised. And there were only adults there!

Contrast that to the family I babysit for, who are still very active in their careers and social life, and have a precocious but well-adjusted child as a result. They're interesting, and their daughter is more interesting because of them. I babysat for many families over the years, and I could probably divide them all into 2 categories: those who were consumed by their kids, and those who weren't. To me, the non-consumed approach just felt healthier.

I know the first years are an intense adjustment period where the baby's needs do come first, so I'm speaking more generally... but by the time my kids are in school, I'm hoping I'll have preserved at least SOME semblance of the "me" I've been cultivating for 28 years! Enhanced, not replaced, by the whole motherhood experience. Me 2.0.
