Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

From being on this board I have learned that twin pregnancies are just so hard! In real life, no one knows that and they romanticise it so much. Obviously, having twins and carrying them to term is wonderful, but so many people end up with complications and months of bedrest and worry when they are pregant is just breaks my heart
39.gif
.

Right after Indy lost her boys, some of my friends and I were hanging out and one of our friends announced she was pregnant (we knew she was trying) and my other friend said, "Oh I have been dreaming someone will have twins maybe it will be you! How exciting!" I was feeling emotional at the time and said, "Don't wish twins on someone, the pregnancies are so tough!" She got really upset that I said it... anyways, it was an emotional moment. I know NYC is in a very different position than Indy was, she isn't contracting or dilating, and she is almost 6 weeks further along now than Indy was when she started having complications, but NYC's situation just really brings back so many memories of Indy's situation and it is making me really sad... I really miss Indy, she was one of my good PS friends. I hope she is doing okay.

Oh, Mela, Luna Soleil??? I would totally think parents were hippies if I had a student named Moon and Sun.

I miss Indy too. I thought a lot about her this week as I went through week 24 (stage 1 viability).

Yeah, Indy and I were due the same week too, so as I get closer to my due date I think of her little angels more and more

Mela I am a big hippie and love hippie names, but I think that you should pick Luna OR Soleil and use only one. I like Luna paired with a more serious middle name. That way, if your daughter is ever working in a situation where she needs to be taken seriously by concervative peers, she can always use her middle name. I know that seems crazy, but for example if she becomes an academic she could publish as "L. Conservative Cargo" is she wanted to. Or is she becomes a manager she can do the same. I only mention this because I know other women in high powered jobs who have faced the name issue, and giving your daughter an option might be nice. My friend''s boss''s name is Cinnamon and no one can talk about her without snickering a little. Now that is not in the same realm as Luna, but it is close to Luna Soleil
2.gif
tee hee hee

FYI, Mela- I when I read Luna Soleil, I thought of Punky Brewster!
9.gif
I think her name is "Soleil Moon Frye" but I may be wrong on that, it''s definitely something similar. While I like both names, Soleil worries me because of the obvious "Cirque" references. But I''m not really one to talk, when I have a baby I will be so screwed because all the names I love are ones that someone already has and I don''t want my kid to think I''m named after someone. I guess I am just touchy because my name is Janis (spelled like Janis Joplin) so everyone always askes me if I am named after her.

NYC- Just a lurker here, but I wanted to send some more sticky dust! I hope everything is okay.

OMG! I totally snickered when I read that.

I feel bad!

Thanks for the weigh in. AH-GREED. Cinnamon = Luna Soleil.

So this has been my naming logic. 'IF' I only have one girl, what name can I NOT live without? Sadly, all my 'have to have names' are Hippie-Dippy.

Girls:
Luna, Lavender, Soleil, Aria (which DH still dislikes b/c he finds it 'Meek').

All other names I'd be 'settling' for.

ETA: Mia - I SUPER SONICALLY LOVED Punky Brewster growing up. Luna Soleil is partially moulded after my Soleil Moon Frye Lurve. For the record, she named her kids Poet Sienna and Jagger Joseph (girls). She's a little bit my babyname hero.

I feel like Celebrities can 'get away with it'.

They can get away with it, but I still think they are limiting their child''s career prospects to a degree, especially women, since we are held to a higher standard than men in the professional world.

FWIW I like all your hippie names as first names, but would just choose a more conventional middle name. Like Luna Marianna or something similarly "normal". I just picked that name out of the air, not actually suggesting it, though it does sound pretty

I agree. I think Luna is darling, and I hope you use it! What about Luna Elaine? Elaine, a variant of Helen, means "bright light." Little Luna Elaine would be baby moonlight. Aww.

Good, sticky thoughts coming your way, NYC!

YES girls. you are the voice of reason and I am listening. I will open my mind and my heart to other possibilities. I actually like the meaning of Luna Elaine (bright light)

Luna Valentina? Is Valentina considered normal?

DH said "Sheesh. I hope its a boy."

That sounds nice... not sure about the "a" "a" endings, but that is more a personal preference than a dire issue

So if you had a fellow colleague (at the Uni) named Valentina, it would be considered a respectable name?

Too bad the short form is VAL

I repeated my post b/c for some reason my last post appeared as though DD wrote it. Weird.

Mela says "So if you had a fellow colleague (at the Uni) named Valentina, it would be considered a respectable name?

I like Valentina too. Here's what Nameberry has to say about it:

Origin: Latin, Feminine variation of VALENTINE
Meaning: "healthy, strong"

Popularity in 2007: #394

More exotic and artistic ballerina-type successor to Valerie; a pretty, recommended choice. Mexican-born actress Salma Hayek named her daughter Valentina.

She could go by Tina, or Nina, or a variety of other combinations (besides Val!), depending on her middle name.

I think we'd go with Luna Valentina (as her middle name) - just in case she turned out to be a smarty-pants and not an artist
3.gif
.

Luna Valentina Soleil 'Cargo'?

LOL. Stiiiiiiiiiiiiil trying to squeeze my little bit of sunshine.

I got a tattoo when I was 15 of a sun and moon - I told DH that it's a SIGN!!!!!!!!!!
27.gif

Ps. Thank for all your input girls. I really really appreciate it!

Mela- I want to say that I really really love your baby names! I love out there celebrity names too. But DD is right, you need to pick an out-there first name that flows well with a regular conservative name.

I love Valentina too! It''s a bit of a mix of out-there and conservative.

YEY!

I think Valentina would be suitable in ANY professional setting!

LOL! This might be a bit out of left field, but if you''re strongly considering Rocky, what about it as a nickname for Rockwell? Still funky, but might look a bit more professional on a resume in 20 years. Then again, I like funkier names, so if any voices of reason disagree with this, speak! Speak!

Thanks for updating us Brooklyn. NYC- thinking of you and your twinks. Love that she gets her mani/pedi- that is too funny.

Mela- You are a hoot. Wait, that makes me sound 80. You are a riot! You make me laugh. I like Luna Valentina.

CDT- Ooh, Lyle, that's a good one Blen!!! Lyle Thomas sounds awesome.

ETA: LOVE Rockwell!!!!

And Pandora- Hope you're doing ok.

Ohh I LOVE Rockwell! ON THE LIST IT GOES!

I loved Rock ''anything'' because Himer was conceived in NYC, overlooking the HUDSON river (on the list as a middle name) and the Rockerfeller center (roughly). Naturally, we couldn''t assign Rockerfeller as a middlename, but we should could Rockwell!
3.gif

GREAT ADD!!

PS. Wolfgang is our 78 surrogate grandfather / next door neighbor. Thus a middle name contender ;)

PPS. Remember when I wouldn''t dish my names? Now I won''t shut up!!!
25.gif

Thanks for the update Brooklyngirl.

Thinking of you NYC. Sending you tons of sticky dust so that her babies will stay put. I had the steroid shots too. A real PITA! Hang in there! I know it''s hard to do but try and think positive thoughts!

Thinking of you NYC and sending lots of "stay put" dust!

Things are still crazy at work, but I saw that NYC is in the hospital and I wanted to send some good vibes out to her. Stay put babies!

DD, I miss Indy too. Any time I hear anyone wish for twins I have the same kind of reaction. I''ve responded to quite a few "I''m disappointed it''s not twins" posts on the bump telling posters that they should be thankful that they can relax a little more during their pregnancies because they have no idea what a twin pregnancy entails.

I just spoke with my aunt. She had a baby at 24 weeks who sadly did not make it. She got preggers right away with twins who were born at 26 weeks and survived
1.gif
. SO HANG TIGHT NYC!!!!!! Clench that Cervy!
17.gif

Thinking of you.

Well I just had an appointment with my midwife at home! So fun and relaxing. And I got great news all around: I am negative for GBS
36.gif
which means no antibiotics required and so we can go for the home birth! My blood pressure was also super low
36.gif
!

Baby''s head is engaged but not yet locked (means it is decended into the pelvis but not yet jammed into the birth position) and we did our first internal and although my cervix is not effacing yet it is softening and she could fit her fingertip inside
23.gif
.

She said that looks really good given that I am 36 1/2 to 37 1/2 weeks along. She doesn''t think I will go into labour this week, thank goodness, but the progress means my body is definitely getting ready! Next week will be interesting because she would like to see some ephasement happening... apparently the long and annoying part of labour is the thinning of the cervix, it can take days or even weeks, and it is what can really impede labour and cause progress issues for many women. She said she isn''t concerned when a woman isn''t dialated when active labour begins--that will happen from the contractions--but the thinning is really important to have totally done before active labour begins. So here''s hoping that next week my cervix has started shortening!

OMG OMG this is all happening so fast - lol - joking (sort of).
6.gif
But I kinda was counting on you being here longer, and well, OMG you''re going to be a MOM so soon!!!!! this is great
36.gif
but like, the end of an era too. I remember when we were puppeteers on the TTC thread! Sheesh.

Oh DD. Congrats on getting your home birth. I think you are my ''Pregnidol''. I wish your Cervix many shortening and thinning successes over the coming weeks.

LOL! I certainly wish you a pregnancy like I have had so far, minus the ridiculous weight gain (close to 50lbs if you can believe it! Much of it is water weight, I have really been retaining fluids the last 3 weeks) and minus the crotch pain

DD, so happy you can have a home birth, that''s great news!!!

for getting your home birth.
you are so close now....you'd be surprised by how fast you can actually progress.
i was long but soft when i had my first internal.
3 days later, my little girl came out.
