Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Yanni? haha

LOL DD!

Wow Dreamer! Mela, I am right there with you in the terrified from reading that bucket! So not ready yet!

Pandora, dust!

NYC, Franklin/Frankie, Forrest, Frederick, Y is much harder, I actually had a student named Yaz once, but that''s all I can think of!

As for me, I''m proud that I actually cooked fresh meat for the first time since finding out I''m pregnant today! I''ve always had a bit of an aversion to raw meat, so with my nausea, I''ve really had to stay away from it. Today I made stuff in the crock pot. I only ate a few bites of the meat and then filled up on noodles and lima beans, but still, better than nothing, right?

Hey ladies! I''ve been reading, but haven''t had time to post. Will try to hit the highlights:

Robbie- There you are! You are just the cutest preggo ever. Didn''t IndyGal call you her "Bridol"??? Well I think you are my ideal preggo. I hope I have as cute a bump as you do! I am only 13 weeks, but I can''t believe I could change that much in 5 weeks. I am not showing at all- pants are just now getting tight. End of day I think I look preggo, but it''s mostly bloat.

Sabine- Are you showing at all? I''m like 3 days behind you.

Courtney- Wow, she is just gorgeous. I can''t believe how much detail you can see. And the dimples! She''s just so pretty. But so are you.

Blen- I like George for you, esp with the middle name. Oliver is a great name too though.

Mela- LOVE the nursery- those colors are gorgeous and so soothing. You are keeping gender a surprise, right?

Mrs- I am sure you are worried, but it sounds like not much to worry about yet. I will keep you in my thoughts. Keep us posted.

Fiery- I am going to Puerto Rico too! But in early March. I have never been, but am excited. We are just going for a long weekend. I am still trying to plot a baby-moon for later though!!!

Pandora- Girl, I am clearing the decks and sending you all my dust. You will be fine, you are so strong. Good luck, will be thinking of you.

Dreamer- Thanks for passing that on. I''m like Mela, that freaks me out, but I am too far off to worry about it yet. I am planning on reading the Ina May book, but when I get further along.

As for me- just hanging in there. We had the 12 week scan last week, and everything looked good. I still haven''t gotten the results of my blood test yet, so not making any further decisions until then. It was so cool to see the little bean again- and again, he/she is such a wiggle-worm. He/she wouldn''t stay still, kept doing flips and waving and turning over. It was so funny. But my gosh, that first moment when they turn on the screen is so heart-stopping while waiting to hear the HB or see the bean move.

We are going public this week, which is fun. And trying to decide on if we are finding out sex or not. I think I want to wait (but am going back and forth) and DH wants to find out so he can "plan". He''s already looked at baby furniture. He''s definitely the planner of the relationship. Oh, and trying to buy a house before June so there will be a place to put the wiggle-worm.

Well, I had my first doctors appointment today. I came out of it feeling more unsure than when I went in.

First they made me pee in a cup. I figured it was for them to perform a pregnancy test, but no one ever told me the results of that.

After I was in the room, and they asked me questions for 30+ minutes, the doctor finally came in and told me they were doing a vaginal ultrasound. I was pretty happy about that, because I figured it would rule out an ectopic pregnancy. It did rule out an ectopic, but didn''t really tell me anything else. She said she saw a sac, but no embryo in it. My husband asked if that was normal at this stage, and she basically said it could or could not be. That freaked me out.

In addition, when she asked me how I had been feeling, I told her that I have been having a lot of cramps. She asked whether it was cramps or pain. Here I thought cramps were pain! I told her I guessed they were more like cramps, and she said that was okay, but I am still concerned.

Reading this back, I may be freaking out for no reason, but let''s just say I did not walk out of there reassured. My husband felt the same way. I go back in a week and a half, so hopefully that will be a better visit.

So Cal girl I am thinking of you, please pop in with an update when you have it!

Guys I never imagined that my post would freak people out! Sorry about that, I would have kept it to myself if that had crossed me mind! I found it really helpful to have tips about the whole thing, but then I am looking at experiencing it any day/week now, so maybe I am processing things in a different way...

Thinking of you tomorrow...hopefully this will all be over soon and you can get back to focusing on the more important things
2.gif

Ditto! And maybe try what I am trying to do now that work stuff is annoying and in the air for me too-- I keep reminding myself that work is not the most important thing in my life and it will all work out in the end, and there is a baby counting on me to be his or her mom soon! That is a job worth looking forward to, no matter what happens in other areas of life. I find this thought reassuring and it takes some of the pressure off. {{{HUGS WOMAN!!}}}

Everyone else: My close friend just gave birth naturally at home about 2 weeks ago and had some really great advice about labour that I thought I would pass along. I think this stuff is useful to anyone planning a natural birth, but would also be helpful for others planning to have pain meds especially in the early phases or during pushing:

Dreamer, here is my advice for birthing...

1. Get on top of your breathing as soon as the contraction starts. Focus on a calm breath. If you wait until the contraction is really intense, it is more difficult. Kind of like catching a wave for surfers, you have to stay just ahead of it.

2. I didn''t do much to prepare for labor, but a couple of things that helped me (aside from the breathing, which happens pretty naturally) were visualization and affirmation. When I was having the contractions I would visualize my cervix opening and command it to ''open, open, open,'' sometimes in my head and sometimes out loud. [Dreamer says: my other friends who went natural also mentioned this. One used the mantra: ''You can do it'' and the other visualized her cervix opening like a fower]

3. When it came to pushing, I had to push with reckless abandon (apparently my contractions weren''t very strong, so a lot of effort was required on my part - not what I had expected). I always remember your mum telling me that when it comes to pushing out your baby, it is like pushing out the biggest sh** of your life. Well it really is! Remember that when you are pushing, it''s like you are pushing that baby out your butt! Your midwife may be able to show you where to direct your pushing. Very low pitched vocalizations help too.

4. When you start to feel the burning, you are SO CLOSE. Don''t worry about the burning, it is a GOOD thing, you want to feel that because it means your tissues are stretching rather than tearing. It''s not that bad either. I found it more intense than painful.

5. Make sure your midwife is going to protect your perineum... Birth the head and shoulders as slowly as you can manage to give the tissue time to stretch. It is tough because it is all so intense at that point and all you want to do is push that baby out and be done with it. BUT - as a woman going through the immediate postpartum, I strongly recommend you do all you can to avoid tearing. I had a small 1st degree tear that required 3 stitches. It has definitely increased the discomfort and length of the healing period. I am sure your midwife will also support your perineum with compresses and counter-pressure.

6. I pushed in a squat in the pool for 1.5 hours with the head moving only millimeters. You can check yourself internally. You can also check your dilation in the first stage yourself. It is encouraging. Then my midwife got me into the bathroom into a lunge position. One foot on the floor leaning forward into my other leg up on the side of the bathtub. Leaning into DH for support. Oh my god it was so intense. But then I could actually feel the baby moving down with each push and so I stayed with it because I knew it was working. And thus my baby girl was born onto the bathroom floor!

7. It was really nice to have a hand-held mirror to view the action between contractions. Very encouraging to see the baby''s head coming more and more into view.

8. And one tip for the post-partum. Comfrey sitz baths and frozen pads. Absolute heaven!
Dreamer - I totally agree with your post, especially the highlighted parts. I got an epi when I delivered my son, but not until I was 7cm dialated. I totally focused on my breathing during contractions and that helped me get through them. Also, when you are pushing it helps to visualize the baby coming down the birth canal. I had to push with all my might but it is sooo worth it. It really is liking taking a huge poop
2.gif
For me it was a great feeling when I actually delivered the baby because all of the pressure I was feeling was suddenly gone.

Can''t wait to meet this new batch of cutie PS babies

China - it's exciting that you're going public! You and your hubby sound like the opposites of me and my husband. He is very patient about not knowing stuff but I need to plan everything as much as possible.

DD - It didn't freak me out, but I might be in a more similar place to you mentally.

Oh yeah! I had at talk with my mom today, and finally let her know that I want it to be just hubby and the middies at the birth. She took it amazingly well - turns out that she is a little freaked out by it and was worried that I'd start concentrating on calming her down instead of doing my own thing (and she knows it's all about me
3.gif
and didn't want this to happen), but felt like she had to be there to support me. Phew.

Pandora,

Good thoughts to you, sweetie. Don''t let this stress you out too much, think of your dear Daisy!

Praying for you to get good news tomorrow!

Thanks for the name tips guys!

DD- seems to only "freak" out the ppl who aren''t close to delivery yet I think...I guess whoever is almost there is well into this part of thinking..while others still can''t imagine all of this. I myself aren''t freaked (bc im having a C anyway) but I think its great advice...sounds like such a wondeful and intimate experience!

Dreamer I thought that the advice your friend shared is great! I wanted to have a natural birth but will be having a planned C-section, so I actually get jealous when I read about people''s natural birth experiences! It sounds like your friend gave you some really good specific advice.

Courtney I was swooning over your 4D US pics... so neat! I love seeing your US pics since you and I are so close together. I have a 4D every other week but I''ve been lazy about posting US pictures because I have so many I''ve been overwhelmed with the number of them.

I am 27w 1d... CANNOT believe that!

DD- Oh no, you didn''t really freak me out, as in you shouldn''t have posted it. I just mean it seems so far away for me right now, but I definitely want to go back and revisit when I am closer. I only meant I still can''t believe I am going to be doing that. But it seems like good advice, and please don''t NOT post great advice on account of a few of us nervous girls! I''d rather know what I''m getting into- like if I know worst case, then I can deal.

NYC- Ok, I just had a facial and all I could think of the whole time was what possible names start with F or Y!!!!!! Here are the only things I came up with:

Fisher
Foster
Ford
Felix
Field
Finn
Finley
Fletcher
Fox
Fraser

Yale

Lots of dust Pandora!!!

China- u r too funny lol! I feel bad for ruining ur facial lol. But u did come up with a lot of ideas. I asked for advice bc I myself can''t think of any that I like...but id like to have the middle name after my grandpas first initial ...but I don''t think it''ll work out unfortunatley
7.gif

Thanks so much for the tips..but sorry again about facial lol...was it good anyway?...I want one sooo bad

NYC- Ah, I was wondering why the F and Y. Don''t worry, you didn''t ruin it at all, I was soo relaxed, it was a bit soothing just rolling through F names. Are you still on modified bed rest?

CC- yup still on "take it easy" instructions...I go to doc tom...very nervous and anxious at the same time. I talk to my cervix now.."cervy stay put!" lol. Wish me luck 2mor ;)
I am soooo sick of bein in bed..I do venture out with dh once or twice a week bc I need the fresh air and daylight!...my eyes are killing me..I can hardly see!
I usually get my facials once a month and im so due for one just not used to relying on ppl to drive and pick me up..and with the snow/ice someone has to hold me bc im such a klutz and scared of falling...ugh ..hope cervy listens to mama :) lol.

Thanks for your comments and concerns ladies!

Pandora, thanks for letting me know about your sister''s experience! The nurse did the first scan with the regular ultrasound wand and moved to the 4d wand for the very end of her review just so we could see her in 4d. Then the Dr came in and did an even more thorough exam with the regular wand so I''m very confidant that he would have seen anything that was abnormal. Thank you for your concern though! I will make sure to have them look specifically for any palate abnormalities next time.

Softly, thanks for your reassurance! I''m so glad the condition had no negative impact on your baby! May I ask how much fluid you had?

I understand that I''m just on the edge of the point where they start to be concerned. The Dr said levels of 30 and 40 cm are where it really gets to be a problem so with 24 cm, I''m just getting into the range where they monitor everything but they don''t need to been terribly concerned yet. Let''s hope the levels go down though since I would still really like to have a natural birth and it sounds like higher levels of fluid might prevent her from dropping like I''ll need her to...

Sorry Mrs but I don''t recall exactly what my levels were, just that I was told they were elevated and I was given the full G.D test and monitored in a similar fashion to you.

It''s good to know that you are only on the cusp of the point of concern, and it sounds like your doctors are doing all they can to monitor you. I hope you are able to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and that you go on to have a trouble free delivery.

I should also add that I don''t know for sure if my high level of amniotic fluid prevented me from delivering naturally as my doctor seemed more concerned with the perceived size of my baby''s head in relation to the size of my pelvis. He didn''t seem to think they were compatible.

pandora - good luck today! Lots of dust coming your way....

mela - i LOVE your nursery theme! It''s so soothing and whimsical! love it!

dd - your post was great! i did freak me out to though in the sense that I can''t believe I''m going to do that (what china said). But great post.

nyc - i suck w/ names....i''m convinced our child will be nameless at this point, so I have no suggestions for you
4.gif

hope everyone else is doing well!!!

20w6d!!

Pandora, good luck today!

China, awe, thanks!

Work is still really crazy, so that''s all I have time for right now. Just wanted to pop in and wish Pandora luck.

China - yey for 12 weeks and going public!!!
36.gif

DD - Keep that juicy stuff comin'! I think I'm in that phase where I'm feeling 'guilty' for not being more 'ready' and I'm freaked out because its still far away, but close enough that I *should* be starting to put it on my radar. I think there is a name for this phase...where you want to start doing things (organizing things, signing up for classes) and have low-self esteem moments when you drag your heels on it.

NYC - love some of those suggestions you got, especially, Yale and Felix. I also like Frankie for a girl, and Fionn for a boy. What about Yvette? Yvonne? Wait. Was I only supposed to think about Boys names? D'oi. Oh dear.

Hope your Cervy is listening!!! lol

GOOD LUCK TODAY PANDORA!!!!!!!!!

37.gif

ETA: I just realized that I'm no longer consti-constipated anymore. AT ALL. In fact, I'm going too regularly now. WEIRD!

Also, I think we're due for some Belly shots, non??

Pandora and Blen?
27.gif
You two are due for a photoshoot!

mela 24w5d

NYC- Hope your doctor appt went well, and your 'cervy" is staying put.
5.gif

Pandora- Thinking of you. Since you are on London-time, it may already be over. Hoping it was good news, and if not, then at least you are relieved that this part is over. Let us know.

Felix was one of my faves as well out of that list- but has anyone else noticed the trend towards all the names with "x" in them? I love "x" names, but have been starting to notice it more.

Mela- Glad you are flowing regular again.
6.gif

Oh, on the butt pain- I have on and off intense pain on the right side of my butt- but I think it's the sciata (sp?) nerve. I had it before, and the only thing that helped was a massage. The other night it was so painful I couldn't sleep. So I guess it's time for a massage!
11.gif
Is that what you all are talking about? Sounds different, but it does hurt right where the sit bones are.

CDT- Is Layne out? Do you know that you are having a boy? I LOVE naming things, so let us know if we can help!

China - not sure if Layne is definitely out, but I just don''t think my DH is going to be able to get over the possibility that it''s also a girl''s name. So as much as we like it, doubt we''ll use it. I find out Friday if it''s for sure a boy. Our 1st u/s at 13 weeks we were told 75% chance of being boy based on the position of his fetal pole (i think that what''s it called???). And I had a strong boy vibe from the beginnning, but you never know it could be girl. I''ll update everyone on Friday after our u/s!! I can''t wait to find out what it is! Feel free to throw names out there! Our other names on the list right now are Warren and Gavin. I really don''t want a name that can be shortened (no nickname type of thing) and it can''t start w/ a S or soft C as our last name begins w/ a C (soft though, so sounds like S). The middle name is Thomas for sure (that''s my dad and brother''s name). So anything you want to throw out there I''d appreciate it!!!

Hi Ladies,

I''m posting this from the bump. Check your prenatals!

Thanks Fiery!

CDT- Ok, I will think on it. I have this great book that Blen recommended at home that actually has a section on names that can''t be broken into a nickname, so I will look at it and throw some names out there. I like Warren- but weirdly I know 2 Warren''s which seems like a lot. I don''t think it''s "trendy" per se, but it may be getting popular (if you care). I love Thomas as a middle name, and that''s so easy to find something to go with it. Have fun on Friday!!!! Do you have any girls names just in case?
31.gif

China - I think i have that book you mentioned! Unfortunately, DH and I are so picky (well maybe more me than him...hehehe). wow, i''ve never met a Warren, that''s one of the reasons it''s on my list
9.gif
I have another name book and it said it''s on it''s way to grandpa status....hahahaha! But I like it just the same.

We do have girls name, they seem easier for some reason. We like Vivian, Fiona and Lyla. Middle name would be Rose (it''s a family name).

well if you think of anything, definitely let me know!

Random note, but a guy I work w/ just had twin boys and named them Grant and Landon...I thought those were really cute names! They already have a daughter named Kira. So cute. It''s funny how I almost always like the names other people pick, but don''t like any now that we are trying to decide. Maybe because my DH is Peruvian (i''m irish and polish...american mutt really) and our last name is hispanic, although not a common hispanic last name. So I just can''t see a lot of the names I like w/ our last name. But we don''t want a latino sounding first name....yeah i''m a mess

CDT - funny you say the above (quotes). I feel the same way. LOOOOOVE names for other people, but struggle with names for us. My DH''s last name KILLS a lot of names. His last name sounds like "Cargo". So it creates a lot of ''rhyming'' sounds with some of my favourite names. For example, Rocco Cargo. BLECH.

***Here is where you ladies come in***

We want a latin-based name, preferably with Italian roots. I''m going to post our top contenders now, facing my fears that once I utter them, they will become UBER popular
14.gif
.

I''m posting because I feel like you gals will be a good sound-board, and so far, we''ve had mixed feedback from family/friends because they are MUCH more conservative than we are. We want a ''risky'' name with humour, meaning, and with some ''balls''. Top pics are bolded.

Girls:
Luna Lavender
Aria Soleil
Gemma (middles: Neve, Aurora, Valentina ....so many)

Boys:
Romeo (middles: Christian, Santino, Hudson, Wolfgang, ....lots more here)
Rocky

I can take it. Lay your thoughts on me.

Mrs, sorry I forgot to mention that I''m thinking of you and hope your fluid levels correct itself with no problems!

Fiery, did I miss that you are going on a babymoon?!? How exciting! Also, if you post over on the bump, any hints as to what your name is over there? I''ve been spending a lot of time there in the evening since I haven''t had energy to do much else, and I think it''s hilarious that I might have read/responded to posts of yours without realizing it. My sn has to do with the fact that I''m an avid Steelers fan (YAY!), and I''ve been posting mostly in second tri for a while now.

China, it sounds like I am showing more than you! I''ve been in maternity or larger sized pants since week 10, and depending on what I wear, I definitely have a little bump that people at work comment on! Although I definitely haven''t "popped" yet, I''m pretty sure it''s not bloat since it''s been consistent since about week 11. Different shirts make it really obvious or hide it though, so it''s funny that some days my students will tell me that I look more pregnant than others. Maybe since Mela (i think!, and I''m on the wrong page to go back and check!) was asking for belly shots I''ll have to post one myself even though mine don''t really count yet!

Cdt, I really like Warren and all your girl''s names!
