Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Wait a minute Blen...when did you get to be 32 weeks???
23.gif

You ladies are moving too fast.

DD-I''m so excited to see your baby and hear your story but I agree its a little sad that you will be graduating. Its like when you''re a freshman and you get to hang out with the cool seniors...then they all graduate
7.gif
1.gif

Blen-Your belly doesn''t look bigger to me but it does look lower.

Robbie- Dress looks totally cute!

Blen- I don''t think your belly looks much different, but it is SO cute!!!! What a cute little ball-belly! Have you gained weight ANYwhere else?!?!

NYC- Hope everything goes well at the doc.

DD- Yay for a full-size, healthy babe! Sorry you are feeling so uncomfortable and nw comin down with a cold to boot! Hope you feel better soon!

Blen, do you means it's soft right where your belly button is? When the baby pushes up and out, I see my belly harden on either side of my belly button and the middle part stays low and soft. That's so strange.

I can't believe your 32 weeks already!

And I'm 29 weeks and 1 day today...wowsa.

Hey Robbie, I complimented you on the dress too.

Check the previous page.

ETA: NYC, just noticed your response from yesterday. I hope you don't have to go back into the hospital, but if it's best then I understand it. I'm sorry you're so uncomfortable.
8.gif

Sorry, Court! Looks like I missed CDT as well. Thanks guys! I''ve been trying to scroll through the posts while I''m replying so I wouldn''t miss anyone, but when they''re on another page too I have to rely on memory and it''s not working out so well.

Holy Crap! DD is almost ready to pop, Blen is 32 weeks, and Courtney is almost 30?!?!? I totally agree with Fiery that it will be sad to see you all "graduate," but so exciting for all of you too!

Robbie, I''m glad you are enjoying working from home today! I''m definitely having weird dreams too (although haven''t had any more about your kitty).

I''m so glad it''s Friday. It''s been such a long week for me, even though I missed a day and a half of work due to being sick! My students are keeping me soooo busy this semester, but most of the time I stil think that''s a good thing because it makes it go quickly.

We had an appt. yesterday, and I got to hear the hb again (yay!), and more importantly, we SCHEDULED OUR BIG U/S!!! March 5th, baby! I''m so excited to find out what we are having, I seriously can''t wait!

Good afternoon ladies, Happy Friday!

Robbie- Late chiming in, but that dress is adorable on you and definitely doesn''t look like you are trying to hard. It''s perfect.

NYC- Glad you checked in, keep hanging in there. You can do this. Hope your appointment went great, let us know. Thinking of you.

DD- I think you''re ready. As much as we hate to lose you, I know you need to go off and get experienced in having a newborn so you can help all of us out when we graduate.
3.gif
I can''t wait to see what you are having! Any feelings on boy or girl? Can you believe you have a pretty much full grown newborn in there?

Blen- You are so close! That belly shot on the ball is hysterical (in a good way).

Sabine- Glad the appointment went well. Yay for March 5th!!!! So you are finding out the sex? I still can''t decide.

I just finally went and added myself to the Preggos in waiting list- and was reminded of a few preggos we haven''t heard from in awhile.

Hi to Lindsey, NYC Sparkle and any other lurkers if you''re out there!
35.gif
Come in and give us an update!

Also Lysser, are you out there? Thinking of you.

Sooooooo

I think we need to do a "What is Dreamer Going to Have" game (that is of course if you don''t mind Dreamer).

Anyone want to take a guess at what Dreamer is going to have? You can just add your name to the list. The winners get bragging rights
9.gif
. I''ll start!

Dreamer is having:
Boy - fieryred33143

Hey ladies...wanted to give the doc update...
So I am not even 1cm dilated so basically if I want to stay home on bedrest I just have to call if I feel the smallest changes ..and I chose to be home...I lost 10 lbs! From my hospital fiasco. Babies look good..lets pray for holdin them in there.
Re my health: they still just monitor me with bloods and maybe scans..I took a copy of records to show my regular internist. I tool my glucose test today (hope at least that''s ok)...I am also RH- and got the shot today...ugh so much to take in...
But im home where I can be healthier (which I think matters a great deal for babies as well)...thanx for listenin ;)

My vote is : DD- Boy

Fiery I was going to start something like this! LOL!

Dreamer is having:
Boy - fieryred33143
Boy - nycbkgirl
Girl - Dreamer & her DH (he had a dream!
1.gif
)

NYC, so glad you are able to be home! Are you still in pain? How are you feeling?

My bet is dreamer is having a boy as well!

As for me, I think I found the bedding I want! I think we would use it for either a boy or a girl, but who knows, I might still change my mind. Here it is: JJ Cole Blue Bullseye

nyc, I''m so glad you were given the option to stay home. I got the rh shot yesterday as well...it stung!!

I say dreamer is having a girl!

Sabine- im not in pain anymore just major discomfort and weakness...im still tryin to make sure that I am healthy and not in danger of anything so that is stressful but no pain...I eat and poop well lol...and am just overall so much happier that im home!
Dh has been amazing! U really see the love when ur hubby has to handle ur bedpan and wash u! He''s been on vaca and attending to me 24/7...I will be very sad when he goes bak to work
7.gif

Court- the shot itself was ok but im so frustrated with having to deal with everything...so if u get the shot u and babies are ok? I duno how this rh factor works and we all know how I stress!

Happy Valentine''s Day everyone!

Sabine, I already told you this, but I''ll tell you again, I really like that bedding! I definitely think it''s neutral enough to be used for either.

China, thanks!

Dreamer, I''m going with girl for you. For some reason I''ve been guessing girl for everyone else and of the one that knows, I''m 0 for 1, lol.

NYC, I''m glad to hear that you get to stay home!

I skimmed Baby Bargains yesterday while DH had bowling night with the guys. I think I''ve decided what I want for most of the major stuff except furniture. I''ll have to see that stuff in person, but I''m bringing the book to help me out. Apparently reading it before bed causes me to have dreams about baby things...and Rhianna and Chris Brown, though I suppose that last part could''ve been from looking at PerezHilton.com before going to bed.

I can''t believe I''m halfway done! I remember when it seemed like 12 weeks would never get here. Everything since then has flown by.

20 weeks today!

nyc I''m so glad that you get to stay home. Tell those babies that they have a while to bake
2.gif

Blen your baby belly is so cute!

Robbie I haven''t read the Baby Bargains book although I have heard great things. I DO however frequent the Baby Bargains online forum which is owned by the authors, and they have different forums for all of the different baby gear, you can ask questions and read reviews, it''s great. I didn''t know if you''d see it, so if you like the book you may like the forums too!

I hope that everyone has a great Valentine''s Day! I had a great doctor''s appointment yesterday so I''m in a very good mood. I''ll be 29 weeks on Monday and Miss Natalie is still not showing any distress from my antibodies. They measured the systolic blood flow to her brain and it looked great. They also did another growth ultrasound and the peri told me "you have a beautiful, healthy baby girl." In fact she is doing so well that the peri thinks that we can wait until I''m 39 weeks for my C-section as planned, which is great because I know that study came out recently saying that babies born via C-section earlier than that can have more problems. So if something changes and she needs to come out sooner I''m at peace with that, but I''d be thrilled if I make it to 39 weeks and my peri sounded very confident.

Today my Dad is coming up from Virginia to help my husband work on the baby''s room
36.gif
They''re putting in chair rail and wainscoting, and tomorrow we''ll paint it. We have the furniture here now, so after tomorrow I can order the rest of my decorations for the room. The past two weeks I have been SO itchy to finish her room. I know she won''t be here for another 10 weeks, but when I think about her possibly coming early, all I can think is "her room isn''t ready!!!" Which honestly is silly, because I think she''ll be in our room for a couple of month since we bought a co-sleeper. But rational thought doesn''t stand a change against my urge to get her room done.

Wanted to share one of the 4d pics from yesterday. They said she weighs 2 lb. 14 oz... I think there''s a real baby in there!

28w4d1.JPG

Lindsey, what a wonderful picture!!! She is beautiful!

I had DH take a picture of my 29 week 2 day belly this morning. I've been noticing some faint lines on both sides, but more so on this side. Are they stretch marks or veins?? They have a definite purple tint to them!

ETA: Nyc, the rh shot deal is confusing to me too, but I did get a little ID card for my wallet stating that I was a negative blood type and what I need to do incase of a miscarriage or any future pregnacies. From what I understand, after she's born...if she has positive blood then I have to get another half dose of the shot? I think I should read up on it again. I do think that you don't have any reason to worry about it though. It's a precautionary thing and won't affect the babies.

29 weeks.JPG

Courtney your belly looks great! It looks perfectly smooth... I am definitely already getting stretch marks!

To you and nyc about the shot... yep it's a precautionary measure. It will ensure that you don't create the Rh antibodies (which is what I have because of a blood transfusion years ago.) It is a good thing so that you won't create antibodies, and won't have any problems in future pregnancies. You usually get one shortly before 30 weeks, and another immediately following birth. Definitely get the Rhogam shots!

Linds- what a cutie! Love those 4d pics :)

Court- perfect perfect belly mama!

Thanks for the Rh info...so I guess getting the shot is a good thing and not dangerous!

Ugh missed call from doc ..she wanted to discuss ystdy''s bloods...I hate when that happens ..now have to wait til she calls bak.

Happy Valentine's Day ladies! Give your bellies a kiss and rub from the fiery family!

Here's an updated list:

Dreamer is having:
Boy - fieryred33143
Boy - nycbkgirl
Girl - Dreamer & her DH (he had a dream! )
Boy - Sabine
Girl - Courtneylub
Girl - robbie3982

Sabine-love the bedding. Great choice.
NYC-I'm glad you got to stay home and that the babies are doing well. Keep relaxing.
Robbie-I need to get the baby bargains book too. We've already picked out the crib. We're getting a convertible crib just because we don't plan on having #2 for a while so having a crib that can double into a big boy/girl bed would be nice. And I know I don't want a travel system. As for everything else-no clue. Congrats on the 20 week mark!!
Lindsey-She's gorgeous! I want to see a nursery shot if you don't mind sharing once you are done!
Court-I didn't notice anything but you do have a beautiful belly bump!

Nothing exciting to report here. Last night we went to Mr. fiery's best friend's 30th party. It was fun but we got home way too late. Every time we tried to get up and leave, they would say 'wait for the cake' and two hours later, no cake (it was worth the wait though because it was homemade with real strawberry filling yummy). We got home at 3AM
14.gif
. I thought I would be able to sleep in but the baby had a different idea. At around 8AM it started kicking so I needed to get up and eat
3.gif

My big u/s is in 13 days
36.gif
My mom is going to go with us. I really want her to see the baby at least once before it arrives. She told me that she will definitely stay with us for at least a month. I'm very excited about that because on top of just needing someone there to help me figure things out, I know she'll also help me with things like cooking and cleaning. So the plan is that she will stay for at least 4 weeks after the baby arrives. Mr. fiery will take maybe two days off and when she leaves, he will stay with me for two weeks.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Happy Saturday / Vday ladies!

Courtney, cute bump!

nyc, I hope you''re feeling well and that yesterday''s results are good!

DD, I''m so glad your u/s went well this week and that you''re feeling well enough. Your baby will be here so soon! I''m thinking GIRL for you. we''ll see! I echo every one''s comments about missing you when you move onto the preggo thread!

Blen, sorry to hear you''ve been retaining water. My ring still barely fits... I hate to take it off. My abs have separated too since my belly gets pointy like that as well. I think it happens to everyone, no?

robbie, sorry to hear about your sciatica. You look great in that dress! Congrats on being half way there!

Sabine, congrats on scheduling your big u/s! I hope you''re feeling better now than you did earlier this week!

Lindsey, have fun working on the baby''s room with your dad today! it''s going to look great and your baby is beautiful!

cdt, fiery, china, mela, pandora, Sapphire, and everyone else, I hope you''re all well!

I''m doing fine. Purchased a breast pump yesterday (medela pump in style advanced) at Right Start since it was 30% off. I hope that was a wise move. It was still $250 which seems crazy expensive to me... hopefully I actually end up using it a bunch. I''m gonna leave it sealed in the box for now.

Last weekend we also got the graco snugride car seat, the snugrider stroller, and a swing. Having these baby things around make it feel very real! My friend also gave me a goodie bag of things she found really helpful with her now 5 week old: disposable multi-use pads for the changing table so that you needn''t wash the changing pad cover all the time, breast therapy warm of cold relief packs to help your milk come down, a drying rack for bottles and stuff, Mylicon for gas relief for the baby, and an eye mask for sleeping during the day. Seems like all of those items will be very helpful.

As for the baby, she''s still breech but seems to be doing well otherwise. My bi-weekly monitoring has been going fine and I kinda like hearing her heartbeat for so long twice a week. It''s also been interesting seeing my b/h contractions charted at every visit.

Any of you have fun vday plans? We''re not doing anything but I came home to some beautiful flowers, chocolates and two cards yesterday (one for me and one for the baby) which was really nice. DH wrote such sweet things to both of us and I feel so fortunate to have him!

Anyway, I''m thinking of you ladies! I read everyday but can''t always post.

hugs, Mrs
35 weeks 1 day

Mrs It was $250 WITH the 30% off? Their normal prices must be a rip off, I got mine not on sale from my hospital for $250.

But FWIW they don't usually get cheaper than that, I looked for months, so you paid a fair price. Their normal prices just aren't fair! Which is weird because I bought our Maclaren stroller from them and it was by far the cheapest anywhere.

And for Dreamer I am saying team BLUE!

Hope you all are doing well and having a great V-Day! Hubby got me a massage which I am very very excited about. And he got me a card and chocolates from the boys. He said that he is teaching them the word "Whiteflash" already. Training them well, gotta love him!

Well, it just goes to show you that you really can't predict anything with pregnancy!

After the biophysical profile on thursday we went in to see the midwife... turns out that indeed baby scored 8/8, but I have a little too much amniotic fluid! Scratch that, a lot too much! Anyways, this can be a sign of physical abnormalities with the digestive tract (since in such a circumstance baby wouldn't be able to swallow the fluid thus leaving a larger dose) or trisomies like Down syndrome, but after 3 major u/s and the screening tests those are really remote. Nope, the most likely case is that this is just "one of those things," which is the case in about 70% of polyhydramnios cases (too much amniotic fluid). But, too much fluid can be a sign that baby isn't doing so well, so to be safe, middie ordered a non-stress test for us this morning and a consult with the most natural birth friendly OB, so we spent a couple hours there this morning.

Baby passed the NST, my BP was great, my urine dip was great, so I am healthy and baby is healthy... BUT our baby is HUUUUUUUGE! Scores in the 95th percentile, which means that at full term baby shound be 9.5 to 10lbs! And I indeed have polyhydramnios. The OB said, "Well you have a very healthy placenta that is growing a big baby and producing lots of fluid!"

Fortunately, they are not worried about baby's health. Unfortunately, they are very concerned about how to manage the labour. Home birth is out, I am not willing to take the risk because there are added risks associated with polyhydramnios... The extra fluid and pressure on the uterus makes it more likely that waters will break in advance of labour. If the water breaks, the large volume of fluid rushing out can cause placental abruption. Because the extra fluid means baby's can float around rather than engageing in the pelvis, if waters break then the cord can get pulled out before the baby, which is extremely dangerous. In addition, because of the extra fluid, babies don't tend to engage and press on the cervix, which means labour may not start in a timely manner on its own. Add to this our large baby, and this means that the OB and midewife are not comfortable letting me go very far overdue (because baby could get too big!).

Long story short, they are going to monitor me closely over the next week. Right now baby is low enough in my pelvis that they are okay with me walking around. If at the next u/s the fluid has increased in volume or the baby floats out of the pelvis, it will be a very immediate C-section. If nothing changes at all this week, we are looking at being induced probably on the monday after my due date (Feb 21). If... and this is my hope!!... at the next u/s the fluid levels are a little lower and baby is engaged, then we may be allowed to go another week after my due date before induction, hoping that labour will start naturally.

My hope is to give my body as long as possible to either go into labour naturally, or to at least start getting ready before induction is attempted! Trying to start labour when the body is not at all prepared (and mine is not at all ready yet, apparently) is usually unsuccessful, making a c-section that much more likely. I am a larger-boned woman, I feel confident I can birth a big baby naturally... but I worry about being induced before my body has even started gearing up for labour!

So everyone, if you can put your wishing hats on and hope hope hope for much lower fluid levels at my next check OR for some changes in my cervix I would reallty appreciate it!

Sorry to hear about the polyhydramnios Dreamer - but great that they spotted it.

I mentioned to Mrs (who has the same) about my sister who had it with her first. My niece was well over 10lbs and there was so much fluid that she wouldn't engage. My sister ended up with a natural birth - but it took 36 hours and no-one noticed the problem until the OB was called towards the end.

My father who is an MD and used to wok in obstetrics years ago spotted it a few weeks earlier but didn't say anything as my sister is somewhat hysterical at the best of times and he didn't want to worry her anout something that might mean nothing - he was horrified that the staff treating her hadn't realised though.

She was one of the 20% where there was a problem - my niece had quite a severe cleft palate. She was operated on at around 9 months and has made a full recovery (my sister is a speech therapist, so that helped) and you'd never guess now. It was hard when she was tiny though as she couldn't suck so had to be fed with special bottles and half the time the milk just came back out of her nose poor thing. My sister named the breast pump Ermintrude and spent half her life hooked up to the thing!

Because of that and because one of my meds carried an increased risk of cleft lip/palate a consultant radiographer did half of my 20 week scan to specifically check the palate in detail. I would have thought yours would have done that since it's one of the more usual culprits for the 20% where an abnormality is responsible for the hydramnios.

Sorry you won't get the birth you hoped for, but I think you are very wise to opt for the hospital setting especially with a big first baby. Keeping my fingers crossed that the fluid levels drop - and that you don't need to be induced!

Nyck - on the rhesus negative thing, the reason that they give you the shot is so you don't form antibodies against rhesus positive cells. Rhesus negative is a recessive condition which means that both your parents were most probably also rhesus negative and so you inherited a gene from each of them making you rhesus negative too. If your DH is rhesus positive, your baby can inherit a positive gene from him and a negative gene from you. Since rhesus positive is dominant, the gene from your husband will over-rule the gene from you and the baby will be rhesus positive.

If during birth, the baby's blood was to enter your bloodstream, your body will recognise it's rhesus positive bloodcells as enemies and will create antibodies to attack them. This is not a problem for the baby - as it is now born - or for you. But, if you were to get pregnant again and the next baby had rhesus positive blood, the antibodies you formed this time will remember that these are enemy cells and will attack them - so your body can end up attacking the baby and this can cause a lot of very serious and potentially fatal problems.

They give you a shot to prevent your body from forming the antibodies and so protecting any future children that you may have.

Starting to feel a bit better here - had another letter from my employer yesterday. I sent in my maternity certificate and told them the date I intended to start my maternity leave. They wrote back setting out all the benefits and terms and conditions. Sadly they hadn't bothered to check the law on this and have messed up on every single bit of it - in some parts giving me less than half the legal minimum. I must admit that I did a little happy dance as it just makes my case even stronger - I am so looking forward to pointing all this out to them. I mean, what idiot when faced with a court battle for pregnancy discrimination doesn't bother to check the employment laws?
20.gif

In happy news, I bought the Bloom Fresco highchair - I got it on ebay last week from a diplomat and his wife who were being posted abroad. It's only 2 months old and absolutely pristine. Even better, I had a 10% discount voucher from ebay so I got it for half the UK retail price. It's usable from birth to when the child is about 4 or 5 and looks so comfy - I really want to try it out but I don't fit.
15.gif
All the trays can go in the dishwasher, it goes up and down to the height you want, glides on hidden wheels (only when you align it properly), sits up to a table, tilts to different positions and has really nice padded harness that is pretty much childproof. It also came with the extra bamboo snuggle seat for newborns. DH is in love with it - but not quite as much as he is with the Jellycat sheep cushion/rug - basically a huge soft toy sheep in supersoft plush that zips up as a cushion or opens up as a playrug. I've said he can only have it if it can go in the washing machine! Daisy is spoilt rotten already by her father and she's not even born yet!

Today we went out to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew as they had a huge orchid exhibition in one of the glass houses. It was beautiful, but rather a lot of other people had decided to do the same so it was a bit packed... hope everyone else has a nice weekend and v-day if they celebrate it (we don't - but it is our 6 month 'semiversary', so we're celebrating 4.5 years today instead
1.gif
)

ETA:

Courtney, that is a really cute bump - much smaller and neater looking than mine is now!

Robbie - your pics are so lovely, you look really great - my sister sends much sympathy on finding nice bras in large cup sizes. She's a G to start with and wonders if they make a Z for when she gets pg. I can't get on with maternity bras at all - I've always had underwiring, but have FINALLY found some really comfortable non-maternity ones from Sloggi, although I only bother putting one on if I'm leaving the house.

Pandora
26 weeks 4 days (how did it go so fast????)

panbloomfresco.jpg

DD - I'm so sorry to hear your update.
40.gif
I'll be hoping for lower fluid levels and for changes in your cervix. Are they having you do anything to give your cervix a kick start (like evening primrose oil)?
Is your due date really a week from today now? How'd the heck did that happen? Time is going by way too fast.

Mrs - I've mentioned the separated abs to some of my friends who have kids and they've all just looked at me like "huh? what are you talking about?" so I wasn't sure how common it is. Or if it's one of those things that happens to a lot of women and we just don't necessarily notice. I just freaked out the other night because I read a list of stuff NOT to do online and I had done over half of the items on the list in the last two hours, but I don't think my middie sounds too concerned. It sounds like you're really getting everything in place for the baby.

Courtney - adorable belly! I'm not quite sure what the faint lines are (and they're barely noticable, btw) but my stretch marks are a deep purple and not just purple tinted.

Lindsey- that's such a great picture!

No big Valentine's day plans here, but I woke up to hubby singing "I'm dreaming of a white Valentine's day" (to the tune of "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas"). It was 60 earlier this week, and today we have about 3 inches on the ground. I think we're going to make a double batch of lasagne (one for ME, one for the freezer
3.gif
) and have a fire tonight.

ETA: Pandora I'm drooling over that high chair. Good find! And your employers are such idiots. I seriously can't believe that they did that.

DD- im sorry u have to deal with this when u are so close already. I will pray everything will be fine.keep us posted! Goodness I can''t believe so many issues come with pregnancy, just awful!

Pandora- thanks for the info! But why can they check dh''s blood first before shot? If he is negative also then baby can''t have positive?
Weird my blood type is A- and my sister is B+...how does that work

Pandora They check palate at the 20 week... At the scan last week we clearly saw fluid in baby''s belly and bladder, so there is nothing to suggest that there are any issues with baby''s digestion. I think that I am in the 80% where there is no known cause.

Blen We aren''t doing anything in particular to get the cervix ready. To be honest, there is no evidence that anything non-medical actually works to ripen the cervix. Usually, what does it is baby''s head pushing on it! My hope is that the head will decend a little more and get things going. I plan to do lots of visualization this week imagining an ripening cervix
2.gif
And DH and I are using the other natural methods as much as possible.

hi guys!
i haven''t been posting much for awhile, but i''m still a long-time lurker. i LOVE following how you are all doing and reading your updates. hard to believe how quickly time is flying!

just wanted to say to sabine that i have the blue bullseye JJ cole bedding and i love it! it''s very cute and relatively gender neutral. i also painted a dresser and letters to match it. i never posted coby''s nursery, so here is a quick glimpse. this was taken before i actually received the bedding, but it matches perfectly...

good luck to everyone (and DD, can''t wait to meet your little one!)...

Fiery, sorry you were up so late last night but I''m glad you got to enjoy the cake!! That''s exciting that your big u/s is right around the corner and that you mom can join you for it. It''s great that she''s planning to stay with you for so long after the baby comes. Mine''s planning to stay for a while as well.

Neat, thanks for the reassurance with respect to what I spent on the pump.

DD, sorry to hear you''ve Polyhydramnios as well! Did they tell you how much fluid you have? they usually measure in centimeters. My fluid has fluctuated a bit since they diagnosed me, I was at 24 cm 2 weeks ago, then 22 last week, and 24 again yesterday so I think it''s very possible for it to go down for you and I hope it does! Bummer that you wont be able to deliver at home though... I''ll be sending my best wishes your way this week in the hopes that the fluid goes down and your body starts getting ready on it''s own!!

Pandora, I''m sorry your work situation continues to be stressful but I''m glad they seem to keep screwing up such that your case will be that much stronger! That high chair looks great! nice find! Thanks again for all the info about your sister''s experience with poly!

Blen, enjoy your lasagna and fire tonight! don''t worry about the abs - I think you and the baby are probably fine. If you had done something really bad, your body would have let you know.

The index they used was a little different, but I think it translated to 27, which they labelled as mild to moderate... typical levels are 7.8 to 24 at 38 weeks gestation. Don''t forget, it is normal for level to increase up until 37 weeks, so yours may change until that time. After that they typically go down, so we are hoping this natural decrease happens for me!

Weird my blood type is A- and my sister is B+...how does that work
It's not quite that simple:

Each of your parents will have two genes that make up their rhesus status - if your sister is rhesus positive, then at least one of your parents will have one rhesus positive gene and one rhesus negative gene.

Being rhesus negative is a recessive condition which means that you need two copies of a rhesus negative gene - one from each of your parents - in order to have rhesus negative blood. If you only get one copy of a rhesus negative gene you will have rhesus positive blood, but you will be a carrier for the rhesus negative condition.

Here's an example:

Mrs X has 1 rh+ gene and 1 rh- gene
Mr X has 1 rh+ gene and 1 rh- gene

Possible combinations are:
rh+/rh+ = rh+ (this child is rhesus positive and cannot pass on a rhesus negative gene)
rh-/rh- = rh- (this child is rhesus negative and carries two rhesus negative genes)
rh+/rh- = rh+ (this child is rhesus positive but carries the rhesus negative gene)
rh-/rh+ = rh+ (this child is rhesus positive but carries the rhesus negative gene)

So, any child has a 75% chance of being rh+ and a 25% chance of being rh-, however there is also a 75% chance that any child will also be a carrier for the rh- gene.

Mrs Y has 2 rh+ genes
Mr Y has 2 rh- genes

Possible combinations are:
rh+/rh- = rh+

So, all their children will be rh+ because they will alway get one of Mrs Y's rh+ genes which will overule Mr Y's rh- gene. They will all also be carriers of the rh- gene because they have also inherited one of Mr Y's genes.

Mrs Z has 2 rh- genes
Mr Z has 2 rh- genes

Possible combinations are:
rh-/rh- = rh-

So, all their children will be rh- because they will always get only rh- genes from both parents and so they are also all carriers of the rh- gene.

The reason why they always give the shot is because the mother might a) want to have children with another partner in future, b) the 'apparent' father might not actually be the father of the child etc etc - all sorts of things like that might happen and so, as the shot is not dangerous in any way, it is much safer and cheaper to vaccinate than to deal with the possible issues of rhesus incompatibility.

DH and I have a situation where he has a dominant condition called hereditary spherocytosis which gives our child a 50% chance of inheriting the condition as they only need one copy of an affected gene. If they have the gene they will both have the condition and be carriers. As DH's mother has the condition and his father does not, we know that he carries one affected gene and one normal gene. As I don't have the condition, I have two normal genes:

P: s-/s- = normal and not a carrier
P's DH: s-/S+ = affected and is a carrier

Possible scenarios:
s-/s- = normal and not a carrier
s-/S+ = affected and is a carrier
s-/s- = normal and not a carrier
s-/
S+ = affected and is a carrier

This is a very simplified explanation of how genetics works - but shows how you can carry the genes for a condition without knowing it depending on whether the condition is dominant or recessive.

(I'm a bit of a geek and really enjoyed studying genetics I'm afraid

Liability... They can't know for sure that dh is the father without doing a DNA test. That being said, if you've had his blood type tested and know that he's negative, then you don't need the shots and you don't have to consent to treatment if you don't want it.

If one of your parents was AB+ and the other was AB+ or O+, that could lead to those blood types. Someone else could probably explain the science behind it better than I could. ETA - just read what Pandora wrote. There's the explanation!

Sabine - I meant to say earlier that I love your bedding choice!

DD - Good to know about no evidence that the non-medical stuff ripens the cervix - I haven't looked into it yet. Other natural methods of ripening your cervix sound like a great Valentine's Day idea if you're up for it, on the off chance that it does something.

Mrs - I've seen different models of the Medela pumps for something like $280 and $330 (can't remember exactly). Craaazy expensive, I agree, but it sounds like you got a decent deal on it and I keep hearing that they're worth it.

LIA - very cute!
