Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Blen-

Have you considered any ''feminized'' versions of male names on your side? Honoring your father, grandfather, brother, etc.?
Thanks for the suggestion, but the only one with a "feminized" version is Stephen/Stephanie, which I''ve just never liked. It reminds me of Stephanie Tanner. Would it be egotistical to give the baby my first name as a middle? Virginia Elizabeth?

Blen, I think Virginia Elizabeth is lovely, and I think any person would be happy to share her mother''s name. Plus Elizabeth is a fairly common middle name (it was mine before I took my maiden name) so I don''t think people would necessarily think it was after yourself. But what''s wrong with that anyway?

Not at all! And I have to say that Virginia Elizabeth sounds great IMO!

Blenner - I love Virginia Elizabeth. Pretty and classic. I no likey Doris (no offence). I like old fashioned names, but Doris is not the prettiest sounding old fashioned name...so I think you could do better. ;p Hilarious / rediculous about having repeat conversations with your mom. OY! I went through the same time of circular discussions with my mom when she was really suffering through her menopause. It was so frustrating. Now that I think about it...I had to re-remind my mom that midwives practice out of hospitals too, not just home-births, 1000 times. THAT was annoying.

My BFF had a baby recently and named her, Taylor Belle. We call the baby Tinkerbelle for fun, or T-belle, or Tink. Fun...!
You're would be V-belle. Or Vinker. hahaha. Harry Vinkler. hahahaha. Okay. enough. (*vink vink)

holy poopvink maglore. you're basically at term. UNBELIEVABLE! Conrats girl!

I remember hitting 28 weeks and telling my mom "I'm 7 months pregnant", to which she said,
"what? starting your 7th month?"
"...um, no. Finished 7 months out of 10 months"
"10 months?"

20.gif
Didn't my Mom have two kids of her own? How soon she forgets...

Thanks so much for the feedback Mela, NF, and Phoenix but - DH just said no to Elizabeth because "we already have one in the house" plus the initials spell something out. Not a good something or a bad something, just a neutral something, but he doesn't like it. I think that it may be time just to table the topic until the baby's born, and then if it has girl parts I can just say "You realize that I just carried that baby for 9+ months and then pushed it out of me and you're not even letting me have the middle name that I want?!" I've had multiple women tell me that that's the way to go when you reach an impasse with names. Maybe there's something to it.

Mela, I don''t get this "pregnancy lasts 10 months" thing.
3.gif
I''ve heard other people say it too. The typical month is 30 days and pregnancy is 40 weeks. So 40/(30/7) = 9.33 months.
9.gif
And that includes the two weeks before conception!

Robbie- I tend to like the sage better from the pics you posted, but I really like Mela''s idea also of either switching out accent colors or painting one wall sage with the sticker. Adorable, btw!!!

SoCal- For me the round ligament pain felt more like stretching or light cramping- if that''s indeed what it is. Still not sure. But at around 12 weeks or so, I started feeling weird pulling/tight sensations in my lower abdomen. I didn''t have any other symptoms, and my appointments since then have all been normal, so I haven''t worried about it. You may just have done too much this weekend. How would you describe what you''re feeling?

Blen- Aww honey, I know your mom must be frustrating, but it made me giggle as well. She is just clearly ignoring what you''re telling her. It''s entertaining at least! Hmmm, I still like Juliet and some other options. I love the idea of giving the baby your name as a middle name. Doris is just a bit too old lady for me, sorry!!!! Your idea of waiting might be the way to go.
11.gif

Ok, that''s all I can remember off the top of my head. I totally have serious memory loss.

Not at all! I love the idea. My little guy is getting my (and my father's) middle name as his middle name. Virginia Elizabeth is lovely and meaningful, and she can pass it down to any daughters of hers.

ETA: Oops! I missed your husband's veto.

Aaaand, I''m back. Thoughts on Virginia Isobel? Isobel/Isabel/Isabella/etc are variants of Elizabeth - and Isobel''s my fav spelling of the group - so I''d essentially be using my name as a middle while side stepping hubby''s objections. He says that he''s okay with this combo. I also have a great-aunt Isabel, also one of my grandfather''s sisters, along with Betty (Elizabeth nickname), and Lillian (another variant of Elizabeth), plus some others (big family). All of the Elizabeth variations are subtle enough I''m not sure if many people realize, but I just think it''s funny. I''ve been steering away from Isobel and Lillian because both of them seem to have shot up in popularity recently, but thinking about it more I''m honestly not sure if that''s actually a problem with them as middle names. It''s not like she''d have to go by Isobel LastInitial to differentiate her from all of the other girls with that name, which is the main thing that I found aggrevating about having a pretty common name. Especially when I wasn''t the only one with my last initial in a class.

Don't hurt me for throwing yet another suggestion into the mix (*ducks*) but what about Virginia Eve, if your husband can get past the VE initials? You were planning to use Everett for a family member, right? Eve could be a 'feminized' version. Just wanted to throw it out there.

ETA: Virginia Isobel is pretty!

Of course I wouldn''t hurt you! We''re kind of reaching crunch time here and need all the help we can get, other than my mom''s help.
3.gif
Everett''s my grandfather, but hubby just vetoed Eve. Anyone want to trade husbands? Mine''s being awfully difficult.
2.gif

Well... I''m clearly not A Mommy in Waiting... just a Bride in Waiting for now... but I love this thread anyway!

Blen: I think Elizabeth is fabulous (biased...my middle name) but another variation on Elizabeth to consider is Lizbeth/Lisbeth. A great aunt of mine had that name, and it''s how I ended up with Elizabeth in my own moniker
1.gif

ETA: accidental duplicate!

Virginia Isobel may be the winner. Gorgeous. I really wouldn''t worry too much about the popularity of the middle name as much as I would the first. Especially with Virginia as the first name- it would be different maybe if you were using a more popular first name. Also, the spelling is a bit more unique. I really love it.

Are you opposed to Virginia Everett? Or do you want to keep both names feminine? I personally love Everett as a middle name for a boy or a girl.

My favorites (that I can remember!!!) are:
Virginia Isobel
Virginia Juliet
Virginia Everett

Not necessarily in that order.

Ha! My husband was difficult with girl names too. Is it the "E" he doesn't like, or the name Eve? Evette might be another option, as a variant of Eve. Virginia Evette?

Hello Mamas! I'm veeeery tentatively looking over here in the PGers thread, I'm 13dpo, and just had a positive digital (about ten minutes ago), as well as three other tests from yesterday am on.
41.gif
I've made my first appointment on 3/31, and the nurse said to expect an ultrasound, so I'm excited, but anxious. I feel random cramps here and there, but haven't had spotting of any kind yet. I was slightly nauseous this morning, with a freaking gag reflex that kept popping up until 1pm (mid-day sickness?), my boobs aren't hurting, and I'm just slightly tired. I fell asleep at work so fast today my teeth clacked and I bit my tongue. Owie! While we were at the store getting Amber "healthy stuff", a migraine came on quickly, and I had to run and buy some tylenol rapid release, to kick it out. I tried to console myself by thinking it was because my hormones are running wild, and well, that would make me feel good. I'll be lurking for awhile, until I feel confident in the little guy- I think it's going to be a boy.

So, hello!
35.gif

Hi Amber
9.gif
Wow and ultrasound on the 31st? That''s cool. My appt isn''t until April 10th. That will be 7w7d for me!

You sound great so far! Just like me
9.gif
I haven''t had a nausea yet. But I have had *TMI**** ((diahrrea.)) Is this my version of morning sickness?? haha! I looked online and other women said they''d had it too instead of MS. I''ll see what the doctor says. But other than that I feel perfectly fine. Just have to make sure I eat enough or else I get weak and shakey. I also get very thirsty. Plus I have those little achey things in the ute they''ve been feeling more that AF cramps yesterday and today. But still quite mild.

I''m so excited to have so many of us starting this journey together!

Peony I''m confused about the 10month thing too
3.gif
I feel like I''m missing a bunch of information here, this is all so new
1.gif
My sister is supposed to lend me her pregnancy books but haven''t gotten them yet. I do have 3 sisters and 8 nieces and nephews, so I feel like I know a lot from seeing them go through it. But I know there will be tons I''ll learn on my own first time through this. Peony is your first doc appt soon too? I still have to wait another month.
8.gif

Blen you have so many adorable options for the middle name. I can''t decide between your options and it''s not even my kid
9.gif
I''m loving Evette, Elizabeth, and Isobel. I love your name style choice!

Blen, I really like Virginia Elizabeth, Evette, and Isobel! All great choices!

To all the newly pregnant out there, don''t get too excited too fast if you don''t get m/s right away (or any other symptoms). While we''ve had some girls fly through here with almost no symptoms for all of first tri, for many of us, m/s didn''t start until week 6 or later. Mine was definitely night sickness and not morning sickness, and it last from weeks 6-16 pretty constantly.

For me, RLP was very sharp pain at the bottom of my stomach, and I got it off and on through first tri. I really haven''t had it too much in second tri. I''ve had a lot of days where I feel crampy or my ute just feels tight, and I think that kinda coincides with a bit of a growth spurt.

My question of the day...any recommendations on cheap dressy shoes that have good arch support? As a teacher, I''m on my feet most of the day, and I have to wear somewhat dressy shoes. I''ve never had a problem with my heels, and I have a LARGE (can we say dh has just come to accept my shoe obsession) variety of styles and heel heights. But lately, no matter what shoes I''m wearing, my feet are cramping and my knees are getting really sore. I''ve been trying to wear arch supports in my shoes, but that makes a lot of them to tight to wear. Even wearing just plain flats doesn''t seem to be helping. I''m pretty sure once it''s warm enough I''ll be able to get away with wearing flip flops (I love how htey mold themselves to my feet, for some reason they are the comfiest of all footwear for me). Any suggestions?

AMBER!!! SO SO SO Excited for you honey, no one deserves it more than you!!! I will keep my fingers crossed for a very sticky little bean for you!
36.gif

Thanks for the comments on our little guy! DH and I think he''s pretty cute too
9.gif

Blen - I love Virginia Isobel!!! So pretty! All the angst over girls names, you''ll probably have a boy
3.gif
And I hear you on mothers!! My mom will NOT leave me alone about names, she doesn''t like our current options. And since we had our 3D u/s she said "Since he''s going to look just like DH, then I think I should get to name him".....ummmmmmm NO! We''re the parents and we''ll decide thank you
20.gif
It''s so annoying. If I hear one more time how Warren (name on our list) is a ''dorky'' name, I may lose my mind!!

Robbie - I like the sage better, but having just painted out nursery, I soooooooooo would not want to do that again. It''s just a pain in the a**, but if your DH is ok w/ doing it again then go for it!!

Amber - WELCOME!!! Congrats girl!!

I forgot who asked about round ligament pain (sorry!!), but I have it pretty much daily especially when I work out, and for me it''s super low and feels like the cramps you get when running (non-preggo)....that''s how i would describe it anyway. I mainly get it on my right side, but as I''ve gotten bigger I feel it on the left as well.

I know I''m missing people and I''m sorry!! I felt awful yesterday after the glucose test, which I hope does not mean I''m going to fail! That''ll suck! I soooooooo don''t want to do the 3 hour. But it took about 4 hours for me to start feeling somewhat normal again after drinking that stuff. I just felt lightheaded and weird. I''ll know soon enough i guess!

All this talk of names and we still are no closer to deciding! Ebree you mentioned if seeing him on the 3D helped at all and I''ll say NO....hehehe...We do still like Warren and Dane though (middle name Thomas), so I have a feeling it''ll be one of those. Actually I think it will be Warren Thomas only because that was the name we liked first and I think Warren even came up before I was ever Preggo. But I still don''t LOVE it, which bothers me. So we''ll see!!

So cal- The lower abdomen stretching/pain is most likely RLP. I felt it a lot during weeks 5 through about 9 and then again around week 12 through 14.

Blen-Doris is an old name but it''s also my mom''s name so I love it
16.gif
I love, love Virginia Isobel though!!

Amber-Welcome and congrats
36.gif
36.gif
That''s great you were able to get an appointment so early. I didn''t want to wait for my first appointment either and had one maybe 3 weeks after POAS
3.gif
.

Peony/Sunkist-Don''t worry too much about the 10 month thing. You''ll find that as you go through the pregnancy, your life revolves around weeks. When people ask how many months I am I always have to take a minute to think about it because I''m so used to weeks and trimesters
3.gif
There is this calendar which of course I can''t find now (but I''ll keep searching) that breaks down the weeks, shows you what trimester you are in, and also what month. I find it helpful.

Sabine-I don''t have any recommendations on shoe places sorry
7.gif
I''ve retired my heels and am wearing flats now.

CDT-What does the drink taste like? I have my 1 hour on the 30th. I''ve pretty much convinced myself that I''m going to fail it. I know its horrible to think that way but diabetes run in my family and even my mother, who doesn''t eat any sweets at all, found out her sugar is really high (I guess from fruit, normal food, and coffee). I''ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

I''m going to go get some snacks
18.gif

WELCOME AMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We''ve been waiting for you!
27.gif

RLP - I also had it if I stood up too quickly. It was sharp, and affected the place where my RL connected to my side. I''m so technical. lol.

Blen - I feel a winner here. Virginia Isobel is off the charts great, as is the initials it makes. No meaning there! I do like the Lisbeth and Everette (for a girl) suggestion as well....but Isobel is amazing.

re: 10 months. Pregnancy is 40 weeks. If you average each month as being 4 weeks (which is not accurate...) then 40 ÷ 4 = 10 months. It''s not scientific, but it is a more ''accurate'' representation of pregnancy that the commonly held "9 months" theory. It actually is 9.33 or whatever Peony quoted; but try explaining that to the average layman!
16.gif
I typically just go by how many weeks I am. Now that I''m nearing the end, I just tell people my due date. That makes them happy enough.

Congrats, Amber!!

I LOVE Isobel, Blen.

Fiery, it tastes like a super sugary soda. If they give you an option, ask for the orange flavor!!

Fiery - Mine was a fruit punch flavor, they were out of orange. This stuff was so red it was like radioactive looking!! It was SUPER sweet (kind of like hawaiian punch but even sweeter....i personally hate hawaiian punch). And for some weird reason it burned my throat as I was drinking it??? Kind of like soda does, but this wasn''t carbonated....so weird.....for me it was a struggle to drink within the 5 minutes they ask u to finish it.

OMG, I am so jealous of the baby shower thing you all have. They don't exist in the UK (we don't have wedding showers either) so you have to buy everything yourself.

Grandparents, sibilings etc tend to give babygros or similar as gifts after the birth and we were very lucky that BIL and his wife bought us the baby alarm we were wanting for xmas, but otherwise you're on your own.

Hence my obsession with ebay stalking and bargains!

Blen: I like the Virginia Juliet, Elizabeth or Isobel, but not fussed on Doris at all (although my cousin had a donkey called Doris so I may be biased
28.gif
)

Robbie: Definitely prefer the sage green - we've got the same colour by chance (the previous owners had painted the room that colour), and it goes with pretty much everything and is gender neutral and not too babyish. Sorry Robbie's DH...
1.gif

Ebree: We've bought the Mini Co-sleeper, so we will definitely need a cot sooner rather than later I imagine. I wasn't going to buy one yet, but spotted an amazing bargain with the Stokke Sleepi on ebay and so bought it. DH has bought so many toys for Daisy already that it will be very useful to have something to put them in for a few months! If you have the Original you probably won't need one so quickly as it's much bigger than the Mini.

Courtney: I get the same breathless and racing heart thing from time to time. Normally if she's transverse and I'm picking things up. I asked the midwife at the last appointment and they weren't worried - just said to sit down and take things a bit easy when it happened.

Fiery: You can't crush the baby at all - it's all wrapped in a big thing of fluid that cushions and protects it. They will also move sides if they don't like it! I was at my parents this week and I have an electric blanket on my bed there. I put it on for the first half and hour after I got into bed and all I can say is that Daisy is definitely a heat lover like me (DH is the opposite). Everytime I turned over there was an almighty battle going on with her trying to get as close as possible to the warm bit at the bottom...
9.gif

Having heard all your horror stories about the glucose test, I am soooo glad that we don't have that over here at all. Sounds disgusting! We just have the urine test at each appointment and if the glucose is high in that they take blood to check.

Pandora
31 weeks today....

CONGRATS AMBER!!!!

so so so so so excited for you!!!!

re: morning sickness.. agreed.. i felt stellar until about 2 weeks ago then bleh! i thought i had gotten away scott free.. ha! now peanut butter bread followed by several breakfasts and a snack and lunch and a snack and dinner and a snack seems to keep at least the barfing at bay... i can''t wait to magically wake up one day and have it be ovah!

blen: re: middle names.. what about your maiden name or your maternal grandmothers maiden name? several of my friends have their mother''s/grandmother''s maiden names as middle names.. i always loved that. my husband actually has his mother''s maiden name for a middle name... and hopefully we will pass it on to our son (am i the only girl on here who can''t wait to have boys?

hi Amber just wanted to say congratulations! I am so happy for you and hope those pesky symptoms stick around, eh? The 31st will be here before you know it!

Ugh I''m so annoyed right now.

I received a bill last week from some company called Genzyme for cystic fibrosis genetic testing
33.gif
and was for $515
6.gif
23.gif
. The date of the service was 11/10 which was the day that I went to my gyno doctor and had a pap and blood work done to confirm pregnancy. They claim the tests were ordered from my OB on that date which doesn''t make sense to me since I didn''t meet my doctor until the 19th. Genzyme sent me an order form where it does have my OB''s name. Is the cystic fibrosis test something that is normally ordered??

If they did order it and I signed to go ahead and order the test, then I''m upset that they didn''t tell me it would cost $500. And I''m even more upset that they didn''t send me this bill in November when I had a $500 visa health savings account that could have went towards paying for it (the account was wiped out in January when I switched insurance). I don''t remember agreeing to it but its possible that I may have during my first appointment.

As great as my OB office is, they take a 2 hour lunch
6.gif
so I won''t get any answers from them until 2
7.gif
I wanted to get your thoughts.

Wow and ouch...

Surely you should have had some sort of genetic counselling before they sent off for tests like that - and you should definitely have been told about the cost.
