Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Fiery,

If you're having trouble with your registry, check this list out. I referred to it when building mine (getting recs from PS moms and others online) and though I didn't follow it exactly, it was helpful!

Consumer Reports: New Baby Basics

(Someone here didn't already post this, did they? I'm completely forgetting who suggested it to me!)

I think I'm about 75 percent done with mine, though I keep adding and subtracting as I change my mind. I STILL haven't decided whether to register for a bouncer or a swing.

ETA: Which carseat did you end up choosing, if you don't mind my asking?

Thanks for the site EBree. I saved it

We''re going with the Chicco Keyfit 30. We carried a bunch and this one felt so light. I was concerned with some of the reviews at first. A lot of moms said that the babies sweat because of the material but I didn''t feel a difference in all the infant car seats we saw. And we''re going with the Baby Trend Snap-n-Go.

You''re getting the keyfit too, right?

Re registry in invite: From what I understand of etiquette, the rule is NO registry information in wedding invitations because a gift is not "required" and so should not be implied by the info in the invitation, BUT because showers are explicitly about receiving gifts (what are they showering you with after all??), you are allowed to put registry information in both wedding and baby shower invites.

Diaper pails baby poop from breast milk doesn''t smell hardly at all, so you don''t need to worry about it too much unless you have animals around, and then you just need a pail that seals since they will eat it. Formula poop smeels much worse, so I guess you could need it in that case? Also when they eat solids it smells bad too...

Fiery- yeh I thought new avatar was funny too..bff came to town and did it for me...I don''t know how to do stuff like that lol. No help on shower front...I didn''t want one...I figured everyone will want to see babies so will come when they here (hopefully with gift cards and no stuffed animals...wishful thinking lol)

Blen- yep hard to believe im officially in the 30''s :) very exciting!

DD- thanks..I will decide later on ..wil try our regular garbage can (under sink) and then decide

Btw- im also going with chicco keyfit and snap n go...still undecided about cosleeper/bassinets.....I want smthg with wheels that u can roll out into another room but then id ned 2 of them and co sleeper doesn''t have wheels..so a little confused there.

Will update after u/s tom.

Can't sleep from the excitement so I thought I'd write to thank you all again for your support these long 9 months! It's been great reading about all of your experiences and knowing I'm not alone on this crazy journey!

Not sure when I'll be able to get on line but I'll update you all when I can.

sending you all my best wishes for continued happiness and healthy through your pregnancies!

Mrs

Good luck MRS!!!!! Can''t believe at the end of today you''ll have a new little person in your arms.

NYC- Wow, 30 weeks already? You are so close, hang in there, Hope your appointment goes well today, let us know.

Mrs! You better get some sleep while you can!

I''m so excited for you and can''t wait to see pictures. I''ll be thinking of you all day!

Fiery, I totally think registry information needs to go in baby shower invitations. That''s what showers are for! I''ve NEVER gotten an invitation that didn''t contain registry info. My mom is the etiquette queen and thinks there is nothing wrong with this.

Blen, I love the collage! Wow, you are officially NEXT!

33 weeks, 5 days

Oh duh...forgot to mention that my shower this weekend was a smash! I can''t believe the amount of stuff I got. Now it''s just overwhelming staring a room full of gifts. I need to ask my mom for help!

hey ladies!

Mrs - i'll be thinking of you today!! Good luck!!

Blen - love the collage! So neat to see the progression of growth!!

Courtney - LOVE ALL THE GIFTS!!! so exciting..hehehe....can't wait for my shower

We had the 3D u/s Saturday. It was ok, but he was slightly facing my back and he kept putting his hands in his face!!! Then when we finally could see his whole face, the umbilical cord decided to float above him! So we didn't get any REALLY good shots I don't think, but here's the best I have. He's rubbing his one eye! Heehee....freakest part though, is that he had his eyes open a lot and he has my DH's EXACT mouth! It's like you took my DH's lips and put it right on this kid....too funny....

hope this doesn't freak anyone out....my mom thinks the pics are weird

Mrs-Countdown is on! Congratulations hun!!!

Courtney-The first thing I thought when I saw that photo is "I see lots of boxes"

Did you get most things from your registry?

NYC-The bassinet search is next. We have the Eddie Bauer Rocking bassinet that was given to us by a coworker. It is brand new, still in its box. The only problem is that it doesn''t have great reviews. Amazon.com has it rated 3 out of 5 stars. I''m reading all of the reviews to see whether it was rated low due to design or safety. I can deal with design flaws since the baby will only be in it for a few months (and sometimes people get really specific, we''re a little more laid back) but I won''t sacrifice safety. I''m hoping it works out. It''s really cute.

~~~~
So I have sort of a weird question. I know that sleeping on either your left or right side is ok. I did read that you should avoid sleeping on the right because of the pressure on your organs. But, she''s on my left side so every time I lay on my left I feel like I''m crushing her
emembarrassed.gif
Is that even possible?
emembarrassed.gif
It doesn''t help that she prefers I sleep on my right side. As soon as I get on my left she moves around and kicks a lot and won''t stop until I move.
oh crap! My name''s on it!!! I messaged the admin to remove.....preggo brain!!
Cdt - A lot of people think the 3D pics are weird, but I love them! They''re the coolest thing ever! Look at those adorable lips! My little one looks just like DH too.
Fiery - We got pretty much everything! We didn''t get the Eddie Bauer car seat or the large baby swing, but those can wait...especially the car seat since we got the infant one.
On the sleeping front, if you feel you''re crushing her (which you''re really not), I would sleep on your right side. You need to be comfortable and not feel paranoid!
Good luck, Mrs!
CDT, what a cutie!
I''m in a major nesting phase. We took down the pink striped and flowered wallpaper from the nursery on Saturday then DH scrubbed the walls and on Sunday he painted (he wouldn''t let me paint or scrub even though we got low VOC paint). He''s not happy, but I decided I want to change the color. I don''t think he can claim to be surprised though since I change my mind about everything. I mean, HELLO, I bought 2 wedding dresses and this room is going to be in use for much longer than that dress was! Not to mention that I changed my mind after he painted our bedroom too.
I had it in my head that sage walls with sage accessories would be too much sage, so we painted the walls Behr''s garden wall color. Now I think it''s just going to be too blah with our black and white bedding set and the crib. Here''s a little photoshop mockup I did. The crib shown is the crib we''re getting. The sheets aren''t our sheets, but I made them look black and white so it should have the same effect colorwise at least. The sage objects pasted in are pictures from the BRU site of things that we actually registered for. We registered for a sage breathable bumper too, but I think I want to change it to white now so it blends in with the crib. The only things that will really be against he walls are the changing pad cover and the hamper. The sage looks a lot better, right? If I''m nuts, please tell me before I make DH redo the room. Keep in mind though, the room isn''t all that big, so it wouldn''t take him more than a day to do 2 coats and that''s allowing sufficient drying time between.
CDT-He''s adorable
face23.gif
Robbie-I like the Sage better.
fiery- We registered for the Keyfit in this color: Adventure. When we were initially shopping for strollers, a girl at the boutique told us the Uppa Baby Vista only took a Graco seat, but doing a search online I found it has a Chicco adaptor so that's what we decided to do after reading a lot of positive reviews.
Mrs- The best of luck today! Can't wait to see your little girl.
Courtney- Wow, you did have a fabulous shower! Did you register for a swing or a bouncer, by any chance? I still can't make up my mind.
cdt- He's adorable! Look at his little face.
Robbie- I like them both! The sage is a really nice pop of color, but the garden (is that the beige in the photo?) is a great neutral color, and you could always put colorful accessories elsewhere without feeling like you have to match the green. I'm no help, am I?
41.gif
For those who have decided to co-sleep, did you/are you planning to purchase a crib right away? I'm thinking we'll probably just order one when we've decided to move him to his own room, but maybe I should have one set up in the nursery anyway? I've got the Arm's Reach Original already on my registry.
Ebree, we registered for both a swing and a bouncer. I figured if we got both, great, and if we don''t, I''ll see what he likes, maybe try him out in one in a store, and purchase later. However, Robbie was able to find this cool swing that the Graco infant seat snaps into, so it''s basically just the frame. That''s what I registered for.
Robbie, before you have dh paint again, I think you should definitely decide if you are sticking with your original bedding or going with a different kind. If you do stick with your original bedding, I think the Garden Wall paint color will end up looking better than the sage. The bedding you put in your pic as an example has so many different shades that even in b/w it looks good with the green, but your original bedding is stark b/w isn''t it?
Ebree, I registered for a big swing AND a portable swing. I ended up getting the portable swing and someone also got me a bouncer that I didn''t register for. I hear they''re both great though!
Robbie, I like the sage too. LOL your poor DH.
Fiery- I have the same sleep issue...but 1baby is on right and other on left side..so either way I feel like im crushing them lol...and reason being..when I lay on the side the baby starts moving and doing weird things so I feel bad but i know is ok ;)
Court- wow lots of gifts :) love that ...but I prefer gift cards lol
Cdt- soooo cute....I will have a problem takin 3d also bc they are both facing back at the moment ..my appt is sunday
Robbie- I like the sage too!
AFM- babies are 3 lbs already and measuring on time and lookin good! So im happy ;)
Yay NYC
36.gif
They''re doing so well! Tell them to keep baking!
Robbie- I like the sage better. It looks like a nice calming color!
Courtney, looks like you really cleaned up at your shower! I''m starting to get nervous about where we''re going to put all this baby related stuff!
Fiery, me too, but DH is giving me a really hard time about repainting.
39.gif
I don''t know if you were on PS yet, but there was this house that I fell in love with when DH and I first started looking. It was too small and we ended up moving back to Pittsburgh anway (house was in Ytown), but it had the most amazing kitchen and I think that''s what the colors are reminding me of. The kitchen had sage walls, white cabinets and butcher block counter tops.
Ebree, this is pretty close to Garden Wall. I pulled the color off of the Behr website though and then messed with the colors in the photo in photoshop until I got it pretty close, but it''s not exact. Obviously it could look different on your screen as well. We''re not cosleeping, but I''d order the crib sooner rather than later. Depending on which crib you choose, it could take a few months to come in. I think it''ll be hard to know that far in advance when you''ll want to stop cosleeping.
Sabine, (I always feel so weird talking to you on here, like I should just pick up the phone, lol) the original bedding is black and more of an off white than an actual white. There are definitely shades of gray though because the toile pattern uses thin lines so they don''t seem quite so black. I definitely feel like the black and white set looks too blah with the Garden Wall. DH has said I''m not allowed to buy any more bedding
39.gif
, but SIL gave us her old Peter Rabbit bedding and I''m thinking we might be able to make it work. I like the wall color, I just don''t like it with the current bedding and it''s way cheaper to repaint than it is to buy new bedding ($23 for a gallon of Behr vs. $120+ for bedding).
NYC, love the new avi! Glad to hear that the twinks are doing well! I don''t think baby likes it when I like on my left side. He/she starts kicking a lot whenever I do. I figure, hey, there''s only one in there so he/she can move over if he/she doesn''t like it
3.gif
Here''s the bumper from the peter rabbit set. The one SIL gave us had some stains, but I washed it and sprayed it with stain remover so hopefully they''ve come out. I guess it doesn''t really matter though since I don''t plan to use the bumper anyway. I pulled this off of ebay, but I can''t remember what the blanket looks like and there are a bunch on there:
robbie3982peterrabbit.jpg
Wanted to add that we bought this wall sticker to put above the crib:
I''m feeling a little weird. Out of breath and my heart is racing. Also, baby is moving a lot right now. So much, in fact, that it hurts! It''s like she''s in there horizontally and she''s stretching waaay out. Anyone else experience this?
Mrs – thinking of you amd your sweet new baby girl!
NYC – lol at “keeping it tight” you’re hilarious!
CDT – Adorable 3D. It would be creepy if it was the first one I’d ever seen, but I’m kinda used to them now…so all I see is one cute little baby!!! :_ Love the lips!
Fiery – I have to sleep on my right because of an old sports injury. It may not be as recommended as the left side, but I’m sleeping well, so that’s all that matters ;)
Robbie – tricky color choice! I like the sage with the sage accents best, but I love that garden beige colour in general. I can see how it may be drab…so my recommendation is to paint the sage walls if you’re 100% married to the sage accents. Otherwise, it may be nice to have the Garden walls, black and white toile bedding, and change out the accents as your whims change. Different colour wall art, throw blankets, etc can really help refresh a room. You could always paint a sage ‘block’ on the wall and mount that AMAZING wall decal within that sage colour block. That would be cool!
I made my DH remove the new drapery hardware and re-drill them into the wall a few inches higher. He was NOT happy….and now he has to patch and paint the walls where the first attempt left its mark. The things they do to keep up happy…
I''ll take pics of our nursery when it''s all done. We''re a ways away from that yet...
Courtney – when my baby turns transverse (sideways) so that the butt and head are horizontal (rather than head down) I DIE. It’s SO uncomfortable for me. I don’t get out of breath, particularly, but I cannot really move until I get the baby back into it’s head-down position. Another thing baby does that makes me CRAZY is kick me deep in the side muscles, where it tickles/hurts. Monkey! You’re farther along than me, which would explain why it’s interfering with your lungs. If it persists, call your doctor. Otherwise, I think it’s just the baby’s positioning.
I’m getting to a point where I would LOVE a nap. This is new. Thank GOD I only have 5 more weeks of work.
I’m really really jealous of all your showers. I am not getting one (but my Mom did buy me a SWEET Bugaboo to “make up for it”), but I think my close girlfriends will still get me some gifts. Nuthin’ like that fantastic spread Courtney received. YAHOO GIRLFRIEND! Score big time!
Mela 30w3d
Mrs - I hope that everything went well today and that you''re holding your little baby girl right now!
NYC - glad to hear that everything''s looking good!
Robbie - I like the sage more, personally. The wall sticker is amazing!
Ebree - We''re holding off on purchasing a crib or mattress, but there''s also the chance that we''ll relocate sometime kind of soon and the less bulky items to move, the better. I figure that if the baby prefers to sleep alone (and some do), we can just use the cosleeper with the sides up until we get a crib. And we''d honestly probably get an Ikea crib anyway rather than special ordering one, so it''s not like we''d need a ton of lead time when we decide to purchase one.
Courtney - it was so uncomfortable for me when the baby was transverse, and now when the baby decides to stretch out. It doesn''t make my heart race though - I''m almost wondering if you should run it by your doc just to make sure that it''s not something to be concerned about. And you made out like a bandit, girl!!
CDT - how cute! I keep wondering what our baby looks like and who it takes after. It would be so cool to know that it had my husband''s lips or something like that.
Fiery - I just sleep however I can get comfortable. I think that baby''s pretty safe in there as long as you don''t start feeling uncomfortable, so you''re probably fine.
I got pissy with my mom earlier, and I can''t tell if I''m just being a crazy hormonal lady or not. I asked her a few weeks ago to help me brainstorm family names I might be missing (for a middle name for Virginia), and she kept mentioning random names that she liked. I kept asking her if they were family names, and she kept saying, "No, but I like it." I kept telling her that we already have ones picked out that we like purely for sound and that we''re capable of going through lists of baby names by ourselves, and that I just wanted her help making sure I wasn''t overlooking family names that would work well. And then she told me today that she had been thinking more about family names and thought that Belle would be a good middle name. I asked who Belle is (I couldn''t think of a Belle) and she said, "Well, it''s not a family name, but I was talking with one of my friends and we both thought that Virginia Belle sounds really pretty." Also in the conversation, I mentioned that I''m going to be term on Thursday, and she said, "Not really. I mean, maybe you are, but nobody thinks about it that way."
36 weeks 4 days (i.e., getting close to 37 weeks
Aww Mela too bad we can''t throw a PS shower for you!
Thanks everyone for weighing in on the whole sleeping thing. That question coupled with FI''s thought that having sex would hurt the baby (that at the time was the size of a bean)...well, we''ve got smarts.
Blen-I have to admit that the story of your mom made me giggle. I don''t think you''re being crazy hormonal at all but it did make me giggle that even after you told her you want family names she still came up with one that isn''t a family name. You are soo close.
Okay, I didn''t have time to catch up on everything that happened this weekend, but I thought I''d pop in anyway.
It was a crazy weekend for me, as I was a bridesmaid in my friend''s wedding yesterday, and I spent the whole weekend running around getting things done for that. And I realized when I put my bridesmaid dress on yesterday how big I''ve gotten already! I knew that 8 lbs was a lot to gain the first tri, but I really saw it when I put on that dress! And, to add to the stress of the weekend, I have started having some cramps/pain in my lower abdomen. I don''t know if this is normal at about 12 weeks, or if I just overdid it this weekend. If it keeps up, I may call the doctor, but I don''t know if I am overreacting. i know some of you have talked about round ligament pain (I think that''s what it''s called), but I don''t know what that feels like, so if someone could describe it, that would be great.
NYC - So glad you are still hanging in there. Keep those twins baking!
Mrs - Can''t wait to see your new little one!
Courtney - Wow, you really cleaned up at that shower. Have fun with all that cute new baby stuff.
CDT - Adorbale pic of the little one. The 3D pics are just amazing.
Robbie - I think I like the garden wall color better. But I am one for brigthening up the room with accessories and wall hangings, so I am a little biased. My whole house is painted some variation of tan or off-white
1.gif
EBree - I am really liking the Chicco carseat in Adventure. I am thinking we might end up with that as well. I''m probably stikcing with a Chicco Keyfit, since my sister has picked those for her carseats (she''s having twins in July), and that way my mom won''t need two separate kinds of bases.
mela - I love that your DH is willing to drill the holes in your wall again. It''s cute the stuff they will do for us sometimes. I can''t wait to see your nursery.
Blen - You are getting so close. The story about your mom cracks me up. Sounds like something my mom would do.
I know I''m missing people, but I feel like I''m far behind on what''s happening. I''ll try and read back a bit farther, and pop back in later.
Thanks everyone for weighing in on the whole sleeping thing. That question coupled with FI''s thought that having sex would hurt the baby (that at the time was the size of a bean)...well, we''ve got smarts.
But where do you think dimples come from?
5.gif
So Cal - for me at least, round ligament pain is a stabbing pain in the uterus area. I think I remember it starting to get bad sometime in the early second tri, but I just don''t remember when exactly. Some cramping is normal too, and can be caused by stuff stretching out or by constipation. My midwife never seemed terribly concerned as long as it didn''t come with other symptoms, like bleeding or fever.
Names - Haha, I''m starting to wish I just hadn''t asked my mom. DH is confused as to how we have the SAME EXACT conversation every few days about names.
And I''m sure that everyone''s sick of hearing about our middle name saga, so feel free to skip over the rest of this post if you want, but I''m just feeling torn because the baby''s going to get hubby''s last name so I want for it to have something from my side of the family too. But nothing''s seeming "right". Virginia Jane is coming the closest right now but Jane would be after a distant cousin who I''m not really close to, which really doesn''t mean all that much. If we go with Virginia Juliet, my mom wants me to pretend that we forgot that I have an Great-Aunt Julia, because my grandma wouldn''t want us naming the baby after my grandpa''s family (Julia''s her SIL).
33.gif
We''re now thinking of Virginia Doris, which isn''t the bestest flow ever and isn''t after my side of the family, but Doris is hubby''s deceased grandma who he was very close to and so it would be more meaningful.
My mom doesn''t know this, because I''ve been trying to avoid the name subject with her until we make the actual "the baby''s here and is named ____" announcement. She''d hate Doris. She suggested Missy (or Misty?) as a "fun, spunky name" but it sounds to DH and me like a stripper name or a perpetual toddler.
Blen-
Have you considered any ''feminized'' versions of male names on your side? Honoring your father, grandfather, brother, etc.?
