Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Good Luck China! You''ll be holding your stubborn little one very soon!

Good luck ChinaCat!!!

Good luck ChinaCat!!! Can''t wait to see your little one. (((hug)))

Good luck China! I''m thinking about you today!

Vesper, um, your MIL knows with twins it might not be "the boy" and "the girl," right?
2.gif

We have our appointment with the snooty daycare today. I''m going to let DH do most of the talking as he is a much better people person than I am.

LOL!!! I''ll feel so bad for her if there''s no girl - she''s been waiting for a baby girl in the family for 45 years! Personally, I don''t care if it''s a boy or a girl (I already have a little boy) but I am really hoping that there is JUST ONE in there ...

Go China!! Can't wait to see the new addition!

My update, the amnio seemed to go well, and I feel ok for the most part, some muscle aching and cramping, just a bit uncomfortable but better than yesterday. It was more mental stress, that was one of the longest minutes of my life watching the needle and them taking the vials and willing the baby not to move or kick or anything near that needle. But it seemed to go ok.

Very interesting process, for anyone that is interested, because we did not know what to expect. They do the ultrasound first and video and photo whatever they can for the doctor to look at. We saw the heart, the feet, fingers, brain, spine. Our doctor was really great, answered all my Q's and told us what he could from the photos and my previous pre-screen results. Then you can opt for the amnio or say 'No I think we have enough info'. And the info they do give you was really impressive...it actually made us be unsure about proceeding. But in the end after asking him some of his personal stats re: amnio and hearing his feedback on the general published stats etc, and chatting about diagnostics, we felt pretty confident with him. He does about 30-50 a month. Crazy!

We should have results in 2 weeks, that earlier results are not as thorough as the ones they do (growing cultures), but he said everything looked great so far. I can't believe how much the nugget has grown just in three weeks, seemed gigantic! We got some wonderful pictures, oh and ... IT'S A BOY. We saw DEFINITE proof, there is no mistaking...someone's an exhibitionist!!
5.gif
Of course, Greg was proud...LOL.

Oh and mrs salvo yes I love the babycenter updates..!! This week the baby is an avocado. I love how they write the updates, and I also am not reading any books for the same reason you wrote, all the reviews said the same thing about freaking people out. I am already a paranoid dork, I don't need extra fodder for the imagination! hehe.

KT I hope you feel better sweetie...low fat diet BLAH.
Vesper... twins, wow..!! That would be a surprise. Our neighbors found out at 18 weeks they were having twins. Can you imagine?

Thinking about you, China! I hope everything goes as smoothly as possible today!

If it helps ease your mind, I also had high betas in the beginning and I just had one!

My number at 15 DPO was 517 and an ultrasound revealed a singleton.

Congrats Mara!!! You are going to just love having a little boy. My little guy is so special to me. Your husband must be over the moon as well!

Thanks goodness, that does make me feel better! My gut feeling is that there is just one in there, but I hate having to wait two weeks until I know ...

So excited to hear China's news! Hope all is going well! And that nursery is fantastic!

Congrats Mara on having a baby boy baking away in there. Thanks, too, for the info on the amnio. We opted not to have one after our NT results, but with our next baby will probably do so, as I will be 33 with this one. We hope to be able to have 2 fairly close together, but will definitely be around that magic "35 years old"

for #2.

Welcome KT! Don't know anything about gallstones, but hope you get to feeling better soon!

Coming up on 33 weeks here. Crib is being delivered tomorrow! I'm washing all the bedding right now
1.gif
. Cannot WAIT to put it all together! I'll definitely have to figure out this whole picture-posting when I do! My shower was Sunday and oh my goodness, this little girl has too many clothes already! Got lots of goodies, and a bunch of girls from work went in on our crib mattress from PBKids, they even upgraded us to the Supreme style- what a generous gift! We feel very lucky and blessed to have such good friends. Everyone is so excited to meet this little girl!

ETA: What is everyone doing for baby tubs? Or new moms- what do you recommend? I am intrigued by the bucket shaped ones, but are they hard to use? My mom thinks it would be hard to get at the "stinky bits" with that style, but all the reviews say babies love them. BRU has one called the Prince Lionheart, I think, and then there is the Tummy Tub that is suposedly really popular in Europe. I'd love feedback.

That works! I went and copied and pasted that first line into google and got the slideshow on babycenter :D Thanks!

tao, that is the baby center one. i love it!!!! i don''t know why but equating the nugget to vegetables and the like seems so cute. except for the week it was ''medium shrimp''...then we were like HUH? we''re avocado this week. i am dying at the thought that next week will be turnip.

thanks for all the happy baby boy congrats. greg really is over the moon about it....already planning CAR PROJECTS with the avocado. it''s quite cute actually.

natalina...yeah we were torn on the amnio vs the screenings too esp given all the data they shared with us at the one yesterday. but in the end we are just incredible ''diagnostics'' people. knowledge makes us feel more secure in ''uncertain'' situations. i am just glad greg and i were both on the same page about it rather than one of us feeling one way and the other a different, because i could see that might be challenging.

vesper, hopefully you just have one muffin cooking in there!! when do you find out?

for baby tubs i was on Target and they had one that people gave top reviews to, i don''t remember which one but maybe check it out. my memories from bathing my sister 18 years ago are fuzzy but i think we just had this plastic long tub thing that somehow managed to work.

Baby Bathtub
We used the Primo Eurobath from birth. It can be used from birth to 24 months; one end of the tub is designed for the baby to lie on, and the other end for when they can sit up. I liked it a lot b/c it''s roomy compared to other tub. The downside would be that it''s too big to fit in our bathtub. So I just put it on the floor next to our tub; it too big for the bathroom for M''s nursery b/c of the way the bathroom is partitioned. A couple months ago, we started just showering her. The other day, we used the bath (I forgot the reason), and she still fitted well in there and enjoyed splashing water.

Mara
Congrats on a baby boy!!! and glad the amnio went well.
Have a wonderful trip to Spain.

KT
Welcome and Congrats.
Sorry about the gallstones. Hope the pain goes away soon.

vesper
I don''t know anything about betas. I didn''t get them done for this or last pregnancy. But I hope you only have one in there.

natalina
Can''t wait to see pics of your nursery.
I have two big tupperware boxes of Meena''s clothes from the first year. I am trying not to buy too much clothes now, but it''s so hard.
And yay for generous friends.

Viz
You have a lot on your plate. Were you guys able to decide on a nursing/assisted living care for your grandparents?
Can''t wait to see your nursery too. I''ll have to live vicuriously through you ladies b/c baby #2 won''t have her own nursery. We let SIL crash in our extra room for now until she gets back on her feet, so they will share until then.
Glad the hospital tour helped turn your DH around. I think it''s easier to get into the routine (changing diaper, feeding and sleep) when there''s just the two of you. When there''s people around, there''s too many opinions and advices. LOL.

I''ve been having a hard time yesterday with nauseousness and threwing up. It sucks that it''s all starting in the 2nd trimester. This morning was much better, so I think it''s just one day. Fingers crossed.

So I got DH decided on being surprised on the gender. I would find out and not tell him or anyone else. I was just saying it as a joke b/c he really wants a boy this time and I was just like well how about you be surprised on the birth day. And now he is set on it. I don''t know if I actually want that b/c I think I would want to tell people. So I don''t know what to do now.

I like that it makes it easier to picture the size of the baby. It's hard to picture 16 inches in your head but when it's compared to a food I've seen before it's more "awwww!" worthy.

I guess I'll start referring to Baby Evan as Chinese Cabbage starting on thursday!

Congrats Mara on finding out it's a boy!

QT I'm kinda wishing we had waited to find out the sex. I keep picturing how awesome it would be to have the Doctor or whoever announce the sex and just being so excited to find out in that moment!

I have the Tummy Tub and Daisy loves it - it''s a bit tricky when they are really tiny but it''s a matter of practice. Hairwashing involves wrapping them in a towel and washing their hair over it and then plonking them in to do the body.

The main problem I have with it is that Daisy wants to stand up all the time and jump up and down and she can brace herself against the walls and do it on her own. I get rather wet because of it. It''s good in that the water comes up to their necks when they are sitting down and it''s easy to carry with the water in.

A lot of the time I just run a bath and we both get in - if I''m on my own then at the end I let all the water out, lie her on the bottom of the bath, get out and dried and then pick her up. She seems quite happy lying there...

If I had a big kitchen sink I would just use that...

QT, it does sound hard to have to keep the gender to yourself. I think I''d wind up secretly telling a few people, and then it would probably spread like wild fire . . .

It''s just WAY TOO HOT here!!! Really it''s not been a bad summer at all. Usually we get several days over 100 and a lot days in the 90s, but we''ve only had a few days in the 90s. But boy does it feel hot! I confess, I parked in the expectant mothers'' spot at the grocery store (after spending 5 hours in my non air-conditioned school). I feel secretly guilty about doing that. I mean here I am, walking 3 miles every other day . . . . obviously I am capable of walking an extra row in the parking lot. But the heat, my god, the heat! (I''m channeling Elaine from Seinfeld here if anyone gets the reference . . . )

So lately our baby girl has been causing these weird pains that almost feel like she''s . . . squeezing things? Like organs? I really don''t know what she could be doing. We can also finally find her body parts when we press . . . I''m guessing that super hard big thing is the head. It was on the left side but yesterday or the day before it moved to the right (it''s not the most comfortable sensation when she flips and flops back and forth -- it still seems like she''s transverse most of the time). And she gets the hiccups every day. She''s becoming more and more of a "person" to us every day.

Our visit to the day care was fine, but the waiting list really is until May or June.
7.gif
I was hoping with the director''s comments about "weeding out" people on the list and "feeling a connection" to some parents, she would just say, ok, you got me, you can really get in as soon as you need to.

OK, so here I need some help. She reiterated how important us keeping in touch with her was (implying that this would help us leapfrog other sorry folks on the waiting list who aren''t as friendly/persistent) and said we should email her with questions, maybe even tonight after we have time to talk about it. But obviously we don''t want to ask any questions that would just make us seem stupid or high-maintenance. We want to ask questions that she will be able to answer easily with positive things about their program -- nothing that seems like we''re worried they aren''t good enough. Help!!!!

We already know their adult/child ratio and a bit about their curriculum. What else is there to ask?

33.gif

I normally have a lot of pride. One time I risked unemployment by standing up to a principal who had been dishonest with me and about me. But this is our child we''re talking about here, and this is the only place in our neighborhood that''s any good, and we really want to get our daughter in! So I''m just going to kiss up as much as I can . . . Suggestions are much appreciated!

On the knowing the gender thing, I am SO glad that DH and I found out at the 21 week scan. It was a really special moment and we loved knowing (especially as we thought we were having a boy) and being able to relate to the baby more before she was born.

Had we waited till the birth it would have been a big disappointment - my hospital is one that believes in immediate skin-to-skin contact, breast-feeding within the first hour etc and we don''t have nurseries in the UK so the baby is with you 24/7 unless they are in NICU.

Well, I didn''t hold Daisy for several hours and I don''t have any recollection of seeing her until I held her in the ICU. The whole birth bit was really rather frightening and the doctors were so busy saving my life that no-one even asked if we knew the gender or not.

I know what happened to me is very rare, but thought I''d throw it out that the whole movie ''It''s a girl'' thing isn''t always the reality so if you choose to find out before you may well not be missing out on anything!

Very good point Pandora! It''s hard to think about the worst case scenario sometimes when thinking of our little ones/labor..but it''s a reality and we should think about it also.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!! It''s great to have a place to talk and hear about prego stuff. I am the only one of my friends that is prego or recently prego so I was feeling kinda lonely!

Mara, congrats again about your little man! I am glad the amnio went well and now you can have a relaxing vacation!

As for an update on my gallstone situation. I went to my PMD today and I have to have repeat bloodwork and another ultrasound (with a 6 hour fast!!) on Thursday. Then I have to go see a surgeon sometime next week. I am getting pretty freaked out about the possibility of having surgery pregnant. I have never had any type of surgery before. I am quite stressed out and just want to cry. I always thought pregnancy would be fun and beautiful but so far it has just been hard.
Oh and to top it off my eyes have been bothering me over the last week, so I had to go to the eye doctor and come to find out I have some sort of eyelid infection. The meds they usually give to fix it I can''t take cause I am pregnant so I have to take something else that takes three times as long to work and has to be done four times a day not just two. Oh and to make it better, I can''t wear my contacts while I use the drops and the glasses I have are about 12 years old with totally bent frames. I never wear them so I haven''t gotten a new pair in forever. SO today I dropped $250 on a new pair of glasses that I will get on Thursday, until then I suffer with my contacts in and can''t take the eye drops!!!

Boy I sound really whiney!!! Sorry. It feels good to vent about it. Hope you guys don''t mind. Prior to being pregnant I never really got sick so this is all so weird to me.

On an up note I am hoping that the US on Thursday since DH will be there that I can convince the tech to take a look at the baby. That is always fun!! We get to have an US on Tuesday to find out the sex so I am looking forward to that. Also I am getting my new ering upgrade tomorrow so that is exciting. A little bling is always good to cheer a girl up!
