Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Thanks everyone! From what I could tell, it was just the bloody show, I haven''t seen a mucous plug yet- just an overabundance of discharge lately. I still need to do laundry! And pack my bag! Damn me for having to watch "The Office" instead of packing the bag.

burk with B, i was carrying super high up until about 36 weeks or so. even my doc said that this time around, baby likes to be lower which is such a pain, i swear i am going to the bathroom every 1 hour and he loves to kick right into the ribs...fun right?!?! haha. your pic is super cute!!

Amber, I hope this means that you''ll be in labor soon!

If I remember right, I went into labor soon after seeing the show with each kid. I think it''s so thrilling because you know that it won''t be long...but so terrifying, too, because you know it won''t be long!

Also, I never saw a mucuos plug...just bloody show and that was it.

Steph
How sweet of you and Andrew to go pick out toys to give to Toys For Tots. Such a good lesson.
Girl, you are tiny teeny. You look great.

drk
LOL on sucking in your belly. You must have some rock hard abs. Can''t believe you are 24 weeks. I feel huge now. LOL.

Amber
Looks like your belly dropped even more this week. You look great. You are next.
I am glad you find out about not having those options beforehand, instead of being surprised. You''ll do fine with the baby in the room. Keep some noises on when you are trying to sleep.
If you are sure that it''s bloody show, then my OB said labor usually starts within 24hrs. My contractions started when I had my bloody show, but my bloody show was mucousy looking (sorry for TMI). Either way, good luck.

Mara
I love McDonalds sausage mcmuffin. Yum.
I watched that one episode where the girl gave birth to her baby in the toilet too. I was so freaked out.
DH bought his laptop and portable DVD player, but we didn''t use them during L&D (we were only there for 5 hours). We did watch the TV in the room, Texas Hold''em on ESPN. hehe.

Burk
You look so adorable. Your bump is getting bigger, but still small.

puffy
Can''t believe you are almost 34 weeks. Super cute bump.

MP
LOL... just tell everyone to get out of your way b/c you need to take your weekly belly pic.

I see the tiny little bump, well not when you suck it in. hehe.
My baby feels like he is way up high now. I started having a hard time bending over to pick something up the last few days. I actually didn''t feel this way with Meena, so who knows.

Here''s me 29w1d. Sorry for the pj pants.

Hi All. We're back from our trip, had a wonderful time. I think we timed it perfectly, I'm still comfortable enough to walk around for long periods of time, sit on the airplane, etc. Saw three great shows, enjoyed the concert, and just had fun being together.

I met with the supervisor for the consuliting position before we left and I took the job; I pick up my first case on Monday. This seems like it will be a great opportunity for me to continue working without having to find childcare. I get to set my schedule and we can work it around John's. A bit nervous but looking forward to the challenge.

Congratulations, November!

Sunkist, hooray!

Steph, you look great, ignore everyone.

Amber, get that laundry done.

hi everyone! Our baby boy arrived early this morning :D he is still nameless though. We''ll have to decide soon. Labor and delivery was awesome! I love epidurals!! Labor went pretty fast. When my water broke I wasn''t even feeling contrax yet. That was around 7:30 pm, then by 9:30pm I was at 5cm. I got my epidural then and couldn''t even feel contrax anymore. Heavenly! didn''t need any pitocin. I started to feel the pressure of him coming down. I took a cat nap until just after 4 am when the doc was ready. This little boy was parked at the gates and ready to come out :) they could see his head right there. So the doc just directed me to start pushing,I only had to push for like 3 sets and was born!! He looks like his daddy I think. He was 6lb13oz, 19 inches long. He the sweetest thing ever. I can''t post pics from my phone, but i''ll try and post in a couple days.

amber I''m so excited for you that you''re baby is coming next. I hope all is smooth and wonderful for your delivery too!

Congrats Sunkist! Sounds like you had a great L&D experience.

Congratulations November and welcome to Olivia Grace - love the name, so pretty.

Sunkist - best of luck to you!

Amber, I didn''t pack my hospital bag until I got back from my trip to L&D AFTER my waters had broken! Ooops...

On the size of the baby, fundal height isn''t accurate in anyway after 35 weeks for sizing the baby. US can also be way off. Daisy was estimated at 6lbs 10oz at 35 weeks and so they were saying she''d be 9lbs + at term. Well, she was 8lbs 3oz. My OB friend had a US the day before her daughter was born and they told her that the baby was already 8lbs 6oz at 38 weeks - birth weight was a smidge over 7lbs.

I''m betting that Piper is in your arms by Sunday night!

DrK in particular and lots of you - You are all soooo tiny! Cute photos!

I was like a hippo once I hit 28 weeks - I''m 5ft 10" but have a short torso, all my height is in my legs, and sadly I have the very long arms (like a gorrilla according to my father) to match - the belly was so ''out there'' that I had constant bruises from bumping into things!

Mara - water births are very common over here. If I hadn''t been pretty certain I wanted an epidural I would definitely have had one. Lots of my friends have had one and say it is great. If your hospital offers it then definitely consider having one!

On the whole skin to skin thing - my hospital is a WHO/UNICEF ''baby friendly'' hospital so skin-to-skin immediately after birth, breast-feeding within first hour and rooming-in is standard. I didn''t have the first two due to the complications I was having, however they did give the baby straight to DH so that he could bond with her while I was being treated. The neo-nataologists checked her straight after birth because of the opiate dependence and also took cord-bloods to test for the hereditary blood disorder that my DH has, but all the things like measurements, Vitamin K etc were done once we were out of the operating theatre so that both Daisy and DH could be with me during that time - I was too ill to hold her and my vision was gone so I couldn''t see her either but I knew they were there which was lovely.

They also don''t bath the baby here for the first 48 hours, just towel them off - it gives any remaining vernix a chance to be absorbed, it''s a fantastic moisturiser and helps the baby not get dry skin. I was kind of grossed out by the idea before the birth, but despite the lack of bath she looked pretty clean to me and you are just so in love with them that you just don''t care!

Birth plans - Honestly, most of the time they''re pointless, but can make you feel like you have some control. Mine just said that I wanted pain relief when I asked for it and that if I had the option of having either ventous or forceps in the event that they were needed then I would prefer forceps (safer for the baby), otherwise they could do what they wanted but to please keep me informed!

Pain-relief other than epis - If you have the option for Entenox (the nitreous oxide/oxygen mix that Dr K mentioned) then definitely take it. We get it as standard over here and I opted for that over the epidural for over 6 hours and possibly if I hadn''t needed the pitocin and things hadn''t gone weird I might have been able to do the whole labour just on that. It really was wonderful stuff - relaxes you, takes the bad pain off the contractions and wears off as soon as you stop breathing it so you feel normal during contractions.

For narcotics, they can make you feel very sick and morphine will often make you feel very itchy (I always ask for an antihistimine if I am having morphine) - over here they don''t use them anymore for births unless you fall into the ''can''t have an epidural because of xyz'' camp. However if you do have narcotics late on in the labour then they can give the baby naloxone if they show any effects after the birth which works very fast and doesn''t have any risks unless the baby has been on opiates for some considerable time - I had NO NALOXONE written in letters 3 inches high all over my notes due to Daisy being opiate dependent, but she was totally fine anyway: Apgars of 10 and 10!

sunkist, congrats! Welcome baby! I think he was born on the BEST day!

Sounds like you had an easy L&D. Awesome! Enjoy this special time!

thanks for all of that info pandora. i''m sure i''ll be referencing that later.

all of you are sooo teeny tiny + cute with your little barely there bumps.

so.... today hubs calls and says how about going out to eat tonight. i got very excited since we hadn''t really gone to many restaurants at all due to the morning sickness in the earlier months. so i get all showered and dolled up excited to enjoy a great dinner downtown. and just as hubs gets home i get sick. ugh. i so thought i was past all of this crud. big ole boo. so we stayed in. sigh.

yay!!!! congrats sunkist on your little boy making his arrival! sounds like your labor went wonderfully! can''t wait to see pics of the little one :]

Huge congrats Sunkist!!! I love your L&D story lol... please let mine be that sweet and short! hahaa.

pandora, thanks for the additional info re: the meds etc. I don''t think that my hospital offers water birth but I will ask for sure.

jcrow so sorry to hear you got sick before your big dinner!! honestly we hardly go to nice places now anymore either. i just don''t feel like dressing up and being cute blah. we went out for my bday and it felt so bizarre haha.

amber, hope you are on your way, girlie!! thank god you guys put the crib together!

So Portia went to the groomers today and she has never had any issues previously in the 5 years there, but I guess she got diaharrea 4 times today and they had to keep re bathing her. They asked if we have any stresses or changes at home and I was like well I''m PREGNANT and they were all ''oohhhhh''...so they think that the changes we have made in the house and the baby''s room could be contributing to her feeling anxious, BUT it was just today she is sick so I don''t think that''s the *reason* necessarily but maybe she is a bit more nervous. I tend to think she has a purebred constitution which historically just means for whatever reason she can be sick and then is fine afterwards. She''s kind of mopey and sad seeming, so I am sitting with her, but poor thing you can tell she doesn''t feel great. I wonder if she ate something in the yard. I hope she doesn''t totally freak out when the baby comes.

Congrats Sunkist!!! I am thrilled for you and your baby boy. Sounds like your L&D was textbook!!! Love that!!!

Mara,
I am thinking Princess Portia ( have to call her that, she's a princess, in a good way ) probably just has a belly ache. I doubt she's stressed, you all give her so much love and attention.

You have twins next door?? If the Mom is ok, take P over to play with them, see how she reacts....

I am hoping it was just an upset stomach than nerves....

Casper is a wreck at 15, people coming and going, seeing suitcases coming and going. He's like can ya'll just stay home??

Congratulations November and Sunkist!!! So happy you''re both doing well!!

Love all the pics, ladies!!! You''re all so cute!!!
2.gif

kaleigh unfortunately for her, portia is a very happy only child...haha. when kids come over like my cousin''s daughter who is 2, portia just spends the whole time hiding and running away from her. or sitting there tolerating the ''petting'' before running to hide. kids love to want to play with the dog and she is just not into it. greg thinks since the baby will be ours she will adjust fine, but i know she is just a prima donna about attention and she also doesn''t like changes. but yeah i am hoping she just had a tummy upset, or was anxious today at the groomers, maybe there was a particularly sad or whiney dog that upset her.

Sunkist, yayyyyyyyyy! Congrats, I''m so glad your labor was quick and easy. Can''t wait to see pictures!

Congrats sunkist!!

Oh yea, I have to go to the bathroom in between every class period when I''m at school (every 50 minutes!!
9.gif
). If I could wear sweat pants more often I don''t think it''d be so bad....but dress pants (especially since I still only have one pair of mat. pants) are a PITA!!!

SUNKIST!!! Congrats! Yay for a smooth delivery. Can''t wait to see pics!

Mara~Sorry about your poor puppy! Hope she feels better soon.

Congrats sunkist!

Sounds like you had a smooth and lovely labour experience! I''m jealous. I had to attend a counselling session on labour & delivery at the maternity ward yesterday - and they emphasized that there was NO PAIN MEDICATION offered during the active stages of labour. (They do offer some kind of pain relief in the early stages, when the contractions are bearable. But what good is that?) The nurse also used a lot of scary words, like ''excruciating'' and ''severe'' to describe the pain. So yeah....yikes!!! I''m not looking forward to this at all.

Anyway, Glad you had a wonderful birth and hope we get to see pics of your LO soon!

Congratulations November & Sunkist, I am so thrilled for you. Enjoy those sweet babies!

booo sha that is why i am not looking fwd to taking the labor/cb class... jeez! have some sympathy on a hormonal pregnant woman please teachers! you are close too btw...!!

burk i have almost conditioned myself to go every hour too. but my bladder has always been sensitive, so i tend to pee more when not pregnant, so this is nothing new, i just am like oh bathroom time. it just feels better without a full bladder if he decides to take aim!

nothing new to report here. i'm plugging along day by day. 29 weeks tomorrow. he is almost constantly moving it seems like. oh and i am even more obsessed with cereal lately but i think it's more the milk than the cereal itself. it just tastes so good. last nite we had cereal for dinner and PIE. lol.

we're having a little thanksgiving dinner for some friends tonite so i will be making brined turkey, biscuits, honey nut pine tart and stuffing as my contribution. i wish i could pack more in but honestly i can't eat much at night, WAH! i will have to continue eating for like 3 hours.

oh and i'm getting a waxing and a pedi so i can feel less like an ogre. my feet are horrible.

happy saturday preggos.

Congrats to November and Sunkist on your new babies!

Sha - that''s nuts that they''re so negative about the labour experience. My hypnobirthing class is the complete opposite. They emphasize that pain isn''t necessarily associated with labour in most cases. That it''s a mind over matter thing. In our first class, we watched two hospital births of women doing hypnobirthing, one having her first, the other had already had a kid. Both looked amazing. There was no screaming, no looks of discomfort during the surges (what they call contractions). The women would just look more focused, breathe calmly, and open their eyes and smile when the surge was over. There was no "pushing" as such, just "breathing the baby down" (haven''t learned about that yet). Their births were so serene and beautiful, it was amazing.

I''ve seen a lot of labouring women in my career so far, and the difference between people is amazing at times. Some are screeching about every little thing, completely stressed out, tensed up. Begging for the epidural at 1-2cm. Others just somehow go into themselves and focus during a contraction, and you''d never know they were having one if it weren''t for the monitor. At 8-9cm dilated.

Really, I believe that a lot of the experience is what you think it''s going to be. They tell some anecdote at the start of the first hypnobirthing class, about one of the pioneers in the field of childbirth, who went to a homebirth in a very poor area of town in England way way back when, and offered chloroform to the patient, who refused it, and proceeded to deliver her baby without any fuss. Afterwards, the doctor asked why she''d turned it down, and her comment was "was it supposed to hurt?".

Come March, I''ll be able to tell you if what they say held true for me, but I have every expectation that I''ll be able to have a wonderful labour and delivery, and won''t be asking one of my colleagues for meds or an epidural.

mara and drk, yeah, the nurse was pretty negative about the whole thing. I think she was trying to be as truthful as possible about the pain, but still, I think a bit of encouragement and positive thinking vibes would have been helpful. Perhaps something like, "lot of women have done it and gotten through it, and you will too!" would''ve have been nice. I''ve been trying to think positively about labour but that session really took me back a few notches!

drk, sounds like you have an amazing class that really emphasizes ''mind over matter'', and the ability of women to actively control their birth experiences. Even the language they use highlights that. I wish such a class was available here.

Enjoy your thanksgiving dinner, mara. The food you''re bringing sounds so yummy! It made my mouth water just reading about it.

Sunkist--
Wow, sounds like you had a pretty smooth and easy labor.
Can''t wait to see your little man.

Sha--
23.gif
That''s a lousy thing to say to a preggo, especially when you tell them that pain medication is not an option at that stage.
So, it''s going to be a natural birth for you then?

OMG, congrats to all the new moms!

Have been praying for you and am very excited to see more pics!!!!

November and Sunkist! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I know it''s late, but it''s....

***NEVER TOO LATE TO DO KEGELS!***

Do 2 sets of 3, ladies! Tighten for 3 seconds and release on each kegel!

Let''s goooooooo!!!!!

36.gif

Sha, sorry your class was so horrible. Mine was so much more positive. Even if you don''t have access to hypnobirthing classes, there is a CD set that you can order for self study. Another set that my midwife recommended is something called the Pink Kit. We opted for the classes instead, so while I don''t have personal experience with them, I''d imagine that both options would be good for self-study if you want a more positive option that teaches you about pain management.

Sunkist - congrats!!

ahahaha Bliss, the "Kegel Kop"
9.gif

I always learned that you were supposed to pretend you were on an elevator. You had to start at the first floor and tighten with each floor to the 10th floor and then release back down to the first.

Either way, it's important to say

to your perineum.

ETA: Congrats sunkist!! How blessed are you to have had such an easy labor?!?!?!?! I wish you an uneventful recovery and nothing but the most joyous of moments with your new baby.

for anyone else having difficulties with prenatals not feeling well at night, i thought i'd post something that's helped me... i take my prenatal at night, but it's at night that i don't feel well and the last thing i want to do is swallow a pill [because i already feel like i'm going to gag!] well, since i don't sleep through the night and usually wake up every night but easily go back to sleep, i decided to put water + my prenatals right beside my bed and take it when i wake in the middle of the night. works like a dream!!
