Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

Jcrow, I feel that way now and I''m not even 7 weeks! I think it''s because I''m really bloated. I''ll feel REALLY hungry then can''t seem to ''fit'' much food in my belly. I''m a fast eater so I usually pay for it...by the time my belly realizes that I''ve had too much, I''ve already swallowed ten more bites!

Today''s my viability ultrasound...I''m SO nervous! I''m a little queasy and my mouth is dry and my heart is racing. I just want good news SO bad.
Don''t worry, just try to relax. I have done this for every appointment except for one. I work myself into the worst feeling ever, but the minute they turn on the U/S, it will all go away. Just stay positive :)

Noewlr, Pupp, lulu- Thank you! It just caught me so off gaurd, I was more shocked than anything at first, and then it hit me. lol. I am getting my hair done after work today, and they give incredible scalp massages, so we''ll just say that pampering myself.

Tao- I left just under 20%, like $2. He apologized probably over 30 times, and I just didn''t want to feel guilty later for leaving a bad tip. He was foreign and I know that he was trying to be funny... normally I just make a sarchastic remark back, but apparently pregnancy has curbed my bi%$hiness a bit. I have a feeling he will never utter that phrase again.

Sorry I''m a bit late with the reply, yesterday was insanely busy - we went for the ultrasound, then I had to go to a different hospital for a blood test (for my Hypothyroid) and then we went and got the H1N1 shot! That was way too much waiting in lines and I was completely wiped out by the time we got home.

Anyway, on to the important stuff. It''s a

BOY!!!
36.gif

There really is a boom around here, it''s crazy.

Unfortunately I don''t have any pictures to share. I was under the impression that they gave you a picture or a CD, but you have to buy one for $35
20.gif
so they recommend that if you are having a third trimester ultrasound, which I am, that you get them both in one go. Not a big deal, we were going to do to just get one now and later, but then they were having technical issues with the transfer. So it just didn''t work out. If I had known, I would have got my FI to snap a photo straight from the screen. Oh well.

I''m sorry you didn''t get a picture! $35 is insane!

Congratulations and WELCOME to Team BLUE!!!!!

Mer, sorry you have had some stupid and annoying comments lately, I think you do deserve some kind of treat for putting up with it
31.gif

Pupp, good luck on the ultrasound.

Regarding doctors, mine always works on rotation, so there is a good chance she won''t be the one delivering when it''s time. I''m glad to here people say it won''t matter much as it did bother me a little bit when I found it. Here''s hoping that I like my nurses.

boo. hiss. no picture! how stingy, especually at the holidays.

But, so many congratulations on your little man!!

I can''t wait until I can find out
36.gif

just got our NT results - less than 1in 10,000. pre-scan my odds (based solely on age?) were 1:500. hurray. so, me thinks no further testing.

PrettyBlues-

CONGRATS!!!! yay team boy!

re: ultrasound dvd-- urgh! we had quite an experience with that too. at the beginning we were told that for $30 we could have a dvd that they'd load the US pics onto each time we went in. so, when i first had an US, i said, oh, we'd like to get the DVD. they said well that's not till later on. um, ok. so we go in for the BIG reveal US and as we are finishing up i mention it again and they said, oh well you should have told us at the beginning of the appt. she said normally they don't mention it to the patients because i guess people don't do it that often??
14.gif

she said that we could schedule another US. when we went to do so they said it'd be $150 since it's voluntary!!
23.gif
i was upset.

and the kicker, when we were in the room with the doctor [after the US], she pulled up ALL 5000 pictures from our US! ugh. so if they were saved somewhere for the doc to pull up, why couldn't they just freakin copy those to a dvd for us?!

so, no we have no dvd of pics. and that was our last ultrasound. grr. so why did they mention bringing the same dvd in each time to load it with new pics if there's just one chance to get US pics? grrr.

oh, and the first appt. we asked if we could take a snap shot of the US screen, and they were like um, not really. but then they thought we were talking about video [even though we said camera]. we ended up not worrying about it...

i should add that we were given print outs [3 each US appt]. but, man, it would have been so much easier to post/email, etc. if they were on dvd. plus i'm sure there would have been much more than just 3 pics per appt.

ok, sorry for the rant.
8.gif

PB - Congrats on team blue! I''m surprised they didn''t give you pics... They printed out 4 for us and it didn''t cost us anything.

puppmom - Yay for a U/S! Try to relax, it''ll be fine.

jcrow - I felt like that often until I dropped last week. Even then, sometimes it doesn''t take me much to feel full. Eating small amounts more often during the day usually works, because you end up always being hungry!

PrettyBlues, CONGRATS on your little boy!! I''m really surprised they didn''t give you pics for free. I''ve never been charged for them from any of the standard u/s.

Mer, you are a much nicer person that I am. My hormones don''t lead to crying -- they lead to nastiness. I probably would have dumped my plate on that waiter.

Do you happen to go to an Aveda salon? If so, you should see if they have the seated back break massage -- it''s $20 for 15 minutes at the salon I go to and it''s wonderful. When I had my appointments set up for 2010, I asked them to schedule one of these mini-massages for each visit too. I can''t swing full massages every month (oh, how I wish!), but I can do this.

JCrow, I had the same problem with only being able to eat a very, very small meal up until a couple of weeks ago when I think the baby dropped. Now I''m back to being able to eat a regular meal and it''s wonderful. There''s hope!

Puppmom, I felt like you at each of my u/s. I''d convince myself that something was going to be wrong, but like Mer said, as soon as I saw the peanut on the screen, I relaxed and enjoyed myself.

Tomorrow is my last day of work this year and I am having a BIG problem getting any work done. I''m frazzled about Christmas because I thought I had my two teens covered, but for various reasons, now neither of them are getting Sidekicks, so I have to come up with other things. My 9 year old daughter is also impossible to buy for because her version of giving you ideas is to say, "Stuff with sheep on it."

At dinner last night, the kids asked what I want for Christmas and I told them that I want SO to propose again with a suggested date for getting married. We''ve been engaged for over 4 years, and have made no actual plans to get married, so I feel like I need this. I did tell SO that he does not have to buy me a new ring, but I wish I could have added in there that I would not be upset if he got one of the GOG Augusta Cushions.
9.gif

re: US pics, our hospital doesn't do the DVD or CD or anything like that, so we just always got printouts from the appts. the only 'good images' were the ones from the NT at 12 weeks and then the one at 15 weeks for amnio was amazing technology...definitely clearest. then we did the 3rd party 3D/4D at 30 weeks. but yeah i know some other people who got CD's or email pics etc...def not that kind of technology at Kaiser hehee.

congrats on a BOY PB...!! there will be a little PS baseball team forming before you know it.

jcrow...get used to feeling like that a lot! at almost 34 weeks it's like that a lot of the time for me. actually in mornings i can eat a lot more as my belly seems softer. then i can have a medium lunch. but after that forget it. my belly gets hard, it feels like it's moving up towards my throat. my dinner is usually like 3-4 bites of something then 3-4 bites again before bed and then i wake up hungry at 4am and have to eat cereal! but it's a countdown thank god... i can't wait to really eat again!
3.gif

no real big update here... just plugging along and looking fwd to the holiday week, i'll be WFH but it will be so dead that it should be fairly relaxing...thank god since i need it after the last few grueling weeks. then i go back to work for 3 weeks and then i am off on mat leave..wow its so crazy that it's almost here already.
6.gif
oh i did take an iphone photo yesterday so i'll try to post that today and if not then i will post tomorrow.

rps...i am an angry hormonal gal too... no crying here unless it's accompanied by screaming. HHAHA.

I can''t eat a full meal either. It''s been getting harder the past couple weeks since my belly feels like it''s growing by the minutes. Sigh. This baby is definitely higher than Meena was, and my belly is pretty hard throughout the day.

My supervisor is taking my group out for lunch today, so I hope to at least eat a little bit. But this morning I ate bread, and they didn''t stay down. Boo.

PrettyBlues, congrats on team blue! I never got to vote yesterday, but I was thinking girl!

Meresal, that''s too bad about your shower. The last thing that you need is stress right now, so hopefully the party planners can take care of the issues and leave you out of it.

Too full: I had really bad heartburn last time around, starting around 7 months. My baby was born with a moptop of blond hair, which is funny because they say when you have heartburn the baby will have a lot of hair. This time around, I had really bad heartburn starting at 5 months - all that I can really eat without upsetting my stomach is Oatmeal Squares cereal with skim milk. I bet that this little guy has even more hair than the first!

Embarrassing pregnancy hormone story:

Today my 3 year old son had his "Holiday Concert" at his preschool, where his class was going to perform a couple of carols for us. I was getting all emotional in the car on the way there, when my son was telling me that he was going to sing really loud so that Santa could hear him. When he saw me tearing up, he said, "Mommy, please don''t cry at my concert and ruin it." Well, lo and behold, and soon as they came out wearing the little reindeer hats that they made, jingling bells, the tears were running down my face. Thank goodness I was recording the concert for my husband, so I could hide my face behind the camcorder. It was so embarrassing.

Really? I''ve been having heartburn and acid reflux since about 7 months... Maybe s/he''ll have a full head of hair like my brother did when he was born! He had a big mop of black hair that the nurses just loved to play with.

Vesper- I can''t control my crying either. I start to tear up and the most random things.

I waited too long to eat lunch again, and I feel horrible. I ate breakfast before 8, so I guess waiting till 12:30 was too long. My coworker said that my face just turned white...

I might be going home early today.

I had soooo much heartburn from the very beginning and Sophia was born with a lot of hair. In WTEWYE book, they do have a blurb that says as the baby grows hair it causes heartburn.

Hair: I read that this is the one old wives tale that is actually true! I didn''t wind up getting heartburn until about 2 weeks before I gave birth---but Evan had a full head of hair at birth. But we saw at my elective u/s that he had hair (This was at around 30 weeks).....

This is crazy... what does hair look like on a U/S?

lol tao... well i have had HB in first tri and then now almost constantly in third and we saw at 30 week 3D he had hair tufts...soooo who knows. but i had a full head of hair and i think greg had some too so i would kind of expect him to have something hopefully.
5.gif

Crap, I have hardly had any heartburn! Partially because for a long time I wasn''t sure what heartburn even felt like...lol. Here''s hoping he has a lot of hair anyway, because both my husband and I did. I was just thinking about that earlier today, that he will probably have curls since we both do.
30.gif

Back from my ultrasound and all is good. Heartbeat was 133bpm and I''m measuring 6w4d which is one day ahead. I cannot put into words the sense of relief I feel. I know it''s still early but I''m grateful that things are as good as they can be at this point.

Well I never had heartburn and O had a full head of blonde hair.

Funny thing is they pointed it out on one of the u/s and I was so creeped out! Don''t know why, but the idea that he was all up in there with hair on his head seemed icky. But then when he came out and it was blonde, I was like, ok, that''s cool. So I guess I was just creeped out by the thought of dark hair? Why oh why, I have NO idea.

Lol--I thought seeing the hair was cool....

Let me see if I can find a picture...

It's not the best picture--and it looked better in person on a big screen (we did an elective u/s--totally recommend it!)

ETA: The hair is the thin thin lines coming up near the word hair....It's hard to explain....

I did the EXACT same thing yesterday at Andrew''s program! They are just too darn cute! I started crying when he was looking all around the auditorium for us and then he finally spotted us and waved and smiled! I figured nobody noticed b/c they were all too busy looking at their own kids!

Man, then our baby is going to have a full head of hair if it''s true! I have had heartburn since the very beginning...get it everyday at 4:00 like clockwork! I didn''t have it bad with Andrew and he was pretty bald (although his hair was so blond, it was hard to tell!)

some days i get heartburn after BREAKFAST. yes sad but true. milk apparently causes it for me. hehe.

tao i didnt know you could see hair in 2D... we only saw it in 3D at our ultrasound place. she said the bumps were tufts of hair.

pupp..glad to hear all is well!

today i feel like my uterus is stuck under my boobs... sooo not comfy. i can''t wait to go home and lay down...that is the only time it feels good.

Wow, this was fascinating. And interesting considering of my 9 preggo friends, all 9 are expecting boys. Anecdotes are of course different than statistics.

GIRLS ON TOP

Stressed mothers spontaneously abort male fetuses

IT HAS been known for a while that stressful conditions such as famine
result in more girls being born than happens in good times. The shift
in the sex-ratio is tiny--around 1%--but in a large population that is
still noticeable. A possible evolutionary explanation is that daughters
are likely to mate and produce grandchildren regardless of condition,
whereas weedy sons may fail in the struggle to have the chance to
reproduce at all. In hard times, then, daughters are a safer
evolutionary bet. Regardless of why the shift happens, though, it has
long been argued that the moment when it happens is conception--or,
more probably, implantation. A womb exposed to stress hormones, runs
the hypothesis, is less likely to accommodate a male fetus.

A recently published study, however, suggests this ain''t necessarily
so. According to Ralph Catalano of the University of California,
Berkeley, and his colleagues, writing in the AMERICAN JOURNAL OF HUMAN
BIOLOGY, stress-induced sex selection can take place long after
conception and implantation.

Famines being rare in America these days, Dr Catalano and his
colleagues used unemployment as their stressful event. They studied the
birth records of the state of California from April 1995 to December
2007, and compared these with the number of new claims for unemployment
insurance. Based on hints from earlier work, they looked specifically
at unemployment claims that had wider social resonance than the firing
of a few individuals--namely those in which an employer sacked 50
workers or more in one go. These mass lay-offs, it might be
hypothesised, are more like natural catastrophes, such as famines, than
isolated accidents that cause a few people to fall on hard times.

The researchers discovered that mass lay-offs did, indeed, lead to
fewer boys being born. Over the whole period 52.4% of births were of
boys. In some months, though, that fell as low as 51.2%. Teasing out
the statistics suggested that the stress of mass lay-offs probably
caused these drops, but that the lay-offs in question could happen
months after conception. Male fetuses were, in other words, being
spontaneously aborted--presumably as a consequence of stress.

That does not mean the original hypothesis is wrong. But it is not the
whole truth. The ruthless winnowing of inappropriate offspring can, it
seems, also take place well after a fetus has started developing. The
next step, according to Dr Catalano, is to measure in pregnant women
the levels of hormones known to predict spontaneous abortion, and to
work out if these levels vary with stressful events.

Puppmom, I''m glad the u/s went well and you''re feeling relieved! I''m going to go on record right now and say that I think you''re having a girl based on that heartrate.

Swimmer, that article is really interesting. A stupid antecdote, I''m sure that the baby I miscarried was a boy. I thought so before I saw my OB for the first time and she likes to guess, every time I saw her during that pregnancy she said it was a boy and this time around she called girl every time, she was right. The article certainly goes against the PS norm of boys galore right now, but it''s truly fascinating.

Puppmom, glad all is well! Hold on to that feeling now and remember it every time you get worried.

Heartburn: Another hairy baby to be born here if the wives tale is true.

My girlfriend who got a positive pregnancy test last weekend has started bleeding. She bled through the first pregnancy and has a perfectly healthy son but she''s concerned, espcially since her job situation appears to have stabilized. My heart hurts for her. Hopefully whatever the outcome she won''t be kept in suspense for too long, it can be agonizing.

Today I had on a tighter shirt and someone said "You actually look pregnant for the first time!" She''s kicking up a storm and has been all day, she''d been in a different position and pretty quiet the past few days so I''m loving it! She kicked me hard enough for it to actually hurt for the first time. I think she''s mad because I ate too much at dinner. My husband said "The baby is telling you: Why did you drink so much Sprite and eat so many nachos?" He''s so silly.
