Puppmom, I''m glad the u/s went well and you''re feeling relieved! I''m going to go on record right now and say that I think you''re having a girl based on that heartrate.
1.gif

re: heartrate, are boys faster heart beaters? or vice versa?
Supposedly, the faster heart rate (above 140) indicates a girl, while a slower one (below 140) indicates a boy, BUT for all of mine, it was the opposite. That was the first clue I had that I was having a boy.

re: heartrate, are boys faster heart beaters? or vice versa?

Supposedly, the faster heart rate (above 140) indicates a girl, while a slower one (below 140) indicates a boy, BUT for all of mine, it was the opposite. That was the first clue I had that I was having a boy.

i went back and checked my notes, at 10 weeks the baby''s heartrate was 170. and we''re having a girl. pretty nifty.

i read that the HR thing is a myth and that most babies esp in early weeks have an extremely fast heart rate. who knows, we didn't get ours measured til like 15 weeks and we already knew it was a boy then. but the last few times i have gone in and he's been measured he is about 140-145 and he's def a boy! but my friend's baby had a 169 HR and she ended up having a girl.

interesting article for sure... esp in light of our economic times. i know so many people with boys...i thought that 2010 would be a girl year because 2009 was a boy year BUT i also know a lot of boys from 2008! it is a joke on the floor at my company that we can only produce boys, there have only been 2 girls out of like 12 babies in the last 3 years!!

so i am just about 34 weeks and my belly is hilarious. this kid moves ALL the time. and now that he is running out of room, the belly movements make me laugh. he really is trying to find some room in there... the belly is always all moving and gyrating and sometimes i swear it makes me want to crack up in a meeting. i was bummed it took me FOREVER to feel him esp compared to others who seemed to feel theirs so early, but now he is definitely making up for it.

since i have my BPF ready, i'm posting a little early hehee. i feel HUGE and man this pic makes my boobs look saggy hahaa but i just had a cotton tank on. just about 34 weeks here. can't wait to see all the other ladies TINY bellies hehee.

ETA oh yeah i took a front down like anchor too, i have to dig it out and post it. its funny.

here''s the funny front belly pic ala anchor.

JCrow, wow, so your kids are opposites, too!
9.gif

Mara''s right -- this is supposed to be an old wive''s tale, but eh, what the heck...I''m bored, so I''m willing to make guesses on babies all day long!

Mara, you might feel huge, but you don''t look it. You look good, healthy and perfectly proportioned. I love the looking down shot. At least you can still see your toes!

I''ve been sitting here tonight working and this boy is doing what yours is doing. It''s weird but cool to watch my belly move because it''s so obvious. Ben must be having a party or something.

Tonight, I had an interesting conversation with one of the ladies at Will''s day care. Her daughter is expecting in April and just found out she''s having a boy. Diana (day care lady) said that her daughter read somewhere that there''s a theory that when there''s a war going on, more boys are born as Mother Nature''s way of replentishing the population to make up for the men who die. Odd theory, but interesting. I don''t remember there being such a gender boom with any of the other kids.

Heartburn & Hair
I didn''t really get heartburn with Meena, and she didn''t have much hair when she was born (heck, she barely have any hair for a girl now). I am getting heartburn occasionally this time, so we''ll have to wait and see if the myth is true.

puppmom
Glad your u/s went well.

Mara
Aww your belly is so round; it''s so cute. And your feet looks so tiny in the front belly pic, like they are really far away. So funny.

RPS
Interesting theory on boys and war. But there were more girls born to preggos I know IRL and in PS when I gave birth in 2008, and the war was going on then.

Here''s my BPF contribution too. I have my OB appt and Meena''s dr appt tomorrow, plus some errands and Xmas shopping. So I might not have time to post on here.

Here''s a bare belly that shows my popped belly buttom.

kiki_poppedbellybuttom.jpg

tovandel, Love the hair shot!

rockpaperscissors, this study seemed to say the exact opposite. Mother Nature can''t tell much, but stress has a huge impact on our bodies, and apparently stressful times (like the almost 9 years of war in Iraq now and the economy since last August) produce more girls. Sort of counter-intuitive, but girls are more necessary for continuing the species in that our contribution to reproduction is more "labor intensive."

Qtie and Mara, you look gorgeous!

OK, here is my first ever contribution to BPF! 5 months and a few days depending on which doc I ask. Oh, and yes, after taking this photo I windexed DH''s closet mirror; the only full length mirror in the house so I manage to avoid it most of the time.

DSCN1907.jpg

Aw, swimmer, you look great!

Tao- I totally see the hair! Too cute! No heart burn for me, but DH and I both have thick hair, so I'll be very surprised if he doesn't come out with any.

RE: Heartrate... our was the complete opposite of the "theory". Our little man's heart was racing at every appt, and not until the most recent one, was in finally below 150.
RE: The War Theory- DH's grandmother said the same thing.

Mara- I LOVE your pics, you look incredible! Your toes are hilarious! I think these are my favorite shots! LOL!

QT- Looking tiny as ever. You are ONLY belly, and you look awesome!

Swimmer- You look great! Welcome to BPF!!!
36.gif
How many weeks are you? 20?

puppmom - I'm glad everything is good with the little one!

swimmer - I did my BSc in evolutionary biology and a slightly skewed sex ratio has been observed in many species during particularly stressful times. One of the theories is that the X chrimosome is more resilient than Y chromosome, so in difficult conditions, a XX fetus (female) is more likely to survive. Very interesting article, thank you for sharing!

Heart rate: I know I posted the HR of my LO after our first appointment... There it is: 150 bpm. We'll see if >140 bpm = girl for me!

Everyone's belly pics look fantastic! Here's my contribution at 38w2d.

anchor38w2dweb.jpg

Swimmer, WOW, you''re 5 months?? You''re so tiny! And I don''t say that in a bad way -- it''s nice to be tiny when pregnant because, well, eventually, it''s not like that anymore. I think it''s so cool that a regular size baby can hide like that.

I hate to ''fess up to this, but I didn''t read the study you posted. My brain these days has apparently turned to mush. I can read posts, but anything serious is too taxing on my concentration. I find all of the theories quite interesting because I used to think that you get whatever gender you get. Wouldn''t it be crazy if there was actually a REASON for it?

Qtiekiki, aw, your belly looks so perfect. The belly button popping out reminds me of those pop up timers on turkeys -- like this means the baby is done?
9.gif

I would post a bare belly shot, too, because I''m astounded at how veiny my belly is. I''m totally pale, so it''s really obvious. But, I''m totally pale so I think it looks goofy.

I''m so happy because today is my last work day of the year. I have a few things to finish up and then I''m DONE. I ended up working late last night, but that means I have less to think about today. We''re supposed to get a big snow storm, which is sort of unusual in our area of VA, and I hate snow, so I''m hoping we don''t get hit too badly. If we do get it, it needs to go away pronto because we need to get out this weekend and finish up the Christmas shopping. I''m having a hard time believing that Christmas is NEXT WEEK. How did that happen??

I''m also pretty excited because after seeing Lynn''s BGD ring, I got in touch with them to find out if it could be modified for a princess cut and it can be. This is exactly the kind of setting I''ve been looking for -- something that is perfect for its sheer simplicity. Lesley was actually answering emails last night and the quote was a lot more reasonable than I was expecting. I showed SO the picture and he likes it too, so after the baby comes and we get back to some semblance of order, I can work on my reset.
36.gif

Here''s my POV shot. I stole that from Vizla, by the way!
28.gif
Mara, I love how we see your toes peeking out in yours.

anchor38w2dpovweb1.jpg

morning ladies!

I''m sooo glad that it''s Friday. We''re hosting Christmas (first ever holiday we''re having) and because my work has been absolutely insane, we''ve basically put everything off until this weekend. and it''s supposed to snow up to 10 inches.
6.gif
should be interesting!

great pictures!

mara - i, too, love that you can still see your toes - nice pedicure, my feet are very envious
2.gif

swimmer - you look amazing! love the top and can''t believe that you''re 5 months already. amazing!

kimberly - your belly is perfect. i''ll be thinking of your friend. i know the fear...

qt - completely belly!!

anchor - so close, so close.

about the HR - at our last appointment, our babe''s was beating at 154/minute and we did the whole can it predict gender search. DH found a study that indicated no such correlation, but like RSP, it''s fun to guess
9.gif

and for now, i''m just going to ignore the hair situation. can''t quite wrap my mind around that one yet...

and I hope this works, but here is a mini-collage of my belly. I was snapping shots every week, but then had a brief hiatus. now that i''m can''t fit into my pant so well, i figure it''s time to start documenting again . . .

lulubellybpf.jpg

BPF! You all look great.

Just wanted to pop in and say I've read there isn't a connection between heart rate and sex. My little guy's heart rate was in the 150s/160s (until much later in pregnancy), and he is most certainly a boy!
10.gif

Lulu! So great to see you preggo! psst, that shirt is at Target clearance maternity Liz Lange for $7.99 in the store. It runs really small (darn tissue Ts!) unless you like transparency.
2.gif

Mer, yup! 20w3(ish)d.

rockspaperscissors, Oh I hear you on not being able to read fully! Making it very hard for me to grade papers these days! Thanks! yeah, people say weird stuff (poor Mer gets the worst of it!). Lately I feel so fat and people keep telling me that I must be only 3-4 months. Um, no, I''m not an idiot and yes, I do eat my normal 4-5 meals a day! Its just that I work out every day too. This baby is going to have a great cardio-vasc system!

Anchor, Fabu belly! I love that evobio was your major! It is so fascinating, I was just teaching Darwin last week, and we are now looking into perceptions of Eugenics in the history of racism. I should have been studying with you! Many questions are too sciency for me to even attempt to answer.

Thanks MP!

Lulu and Anchor! You gals looks great!

Here is my contribution... you can see the Christmas tree in the back and the suitcase that I was in the middle of packing for another weekend away from home, this makes 7 in a row... I cannot wait for Christmas and next weekend. I just want to wake up on a Saturday morning in my own bed!

Here I am: 21w2d
9.gif

ETA: I also chopped off about 3 inches of hair last night!! It feels incredible!!

Wow, that''s quite a subject! I looked into that in a bioethics class... It''s fascinating.

Rock: I''m in Va also! Virginia beach.....

Glad you could see the hair...I couldn''t enlarge the pic so I was worried no one would see it.

i went back and checked my notes, at 10 weeks the baby''s heartrate was 170. and we''re having a girl. pretty nifty.
DD''s hr was never below 150!

Total lurker here, but I have to pop in an say MARA that straight-down belly pic is totally cracking me up!!!

everyone looks fabulous as usual!!

anchor i think you dropped!! does it feel lower?? it looks lower to me.
qt girl you are just all belly. i love your button. your arms and legs are still so thin!
mere love the haircut and the cute belly.
swimmer wow you are so small for 5 months! i love it!
lulu your collage is great, i am so bad at documenting.

DJ...i know isn't the spatial thing just hilarious? it looks like a big blue balloon floating over toes.

all you small gals with your little bellies, i marvel at it like rps where i am like wow it is crazy just how diff bodies are and how a baby can really HIDE in a flatter belly for so long!

and it is really funny too because i was looking through some pics on my hard drive and i found some from when i was at events at like 12 weeks and i felt so pregnant looking and huge, and i thought damn i was skinny. NOW i've got a BELLY. hahaa. but it is totally 'shades of change' i guess. there's no mistaking me for pregnant now.

re: seeing the toes...i just angled the iphone out a bit (the pics aren't that good, iphone only) because the toes were cracking me up, and that is a 3 week old pedi, it is in need of some serious repair haha. i am trying to hold out another 3 weeks or so til right before due date so that i can get my last pedi and then not have to worry about it for like a month or more after baby comes. same with hair appt and waxing, etc etc. but i'll be off the last 2 weeks before dd so i figure i can get all that done then.

speaking of weight and bellies, my friend gave birth to her girl on dec 8 and yesterday told me she lost 29 of the 35 lbs she gained and she is not working out or anything, just bf'ing. so there is hope hehee.

Mara - Yes, I dropped last week. The heartburn/reflux is better and I can eat more, but I have a short torso, so I still feel like I have a hard time breathing, especially with the stuffy nose.

LOVE BPF!!!

Mara~You look great! You''re not big at all...although I can totally relate because I feel HUGE compared to some of these tiny bellies on here!

QT~ALL belly lady and I love your belly button!

Swimmer~Yay for a belly pic! You look great!

Meresal~I am starting to see a little more of a bump! Yay for hair cut, too!!

anchor~You look great! So close to meeting him/her!!

lovelylulu~Great collage!! You look adorable!

I have a few pics this week....starting with standard side shot. I''m 31w 5d. OH, and was told I look like I''m going to pop again this morning!

burk31.jpg

Bare belly front view....you can kind of see how darn low he is this way.

burkbelly231.jpg

And looking down....can see how square my belly is and how my belly button is still indented a bit!
3.gif
Hard for me to do this one because my bbs are so huge!!

Lulu, I am so happy to see you posting here. My friend, J, seems to be doing okay; she was an amazing support for me when I miscarried and I hope that if she ends up losing the pregnancy I am as helpful to her.

Great belly shots, ladies! I think it''s funny everyone percieves themselves to be bigger than they actually are.

I''m off today, which means one extra day of vacation (schools closed for two weeks) for me. I''ll still do my consulting work, but that doesn''t require much of my time. The house needs scrubbed, I need to bake, make tamales, wrap presents. The second week off is going to be spent paring down, throwing things out, getting ready to move.

Everyone looks great! Here is my almost 34 week pic...yikes, only 5 weeks left to go!

week34bump.jpg

And just cuz I think these are funny shots...my POV!

week34bump2.jpg

Mara, you look fab girl! Not huge at all
1.gif

RPS, I had never heard the war theory, interesting for sure!

QT, you look so cute...my bb never popped out like that, but I always wanted it to!

Swimmer, you are so tiny! I see a small bump!

Anchor, you look great...not too much longer!

Lovely, cute tiny bump!

Mer, you are so cute and I finally see a little bump...so adorable and love the hair!

Burk, I actually think you look smaller...I think it was the bulkier sweater last week....you look great!

Kim, have fun...don''t work too hard!
