Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

oh mere, you should start taking Tums. i went through a huge container of a few hundred the whole pregnancy after never really ever taking them before. in fact i have like 10 left, i figure i should make it to the end.

but basically i would take one a night before bed...or else i''d wake up with the burn or not be able to fall asleep. and eating earlier, and in small portions helps. hb is icky.

mmm tums. Tums are my friend. I think I single-handedly keep them in business.

China~I know! It's crazy to think that my T is going to be a big sister and I'm going to have TWO kids!

mara~I don't have that kind of luck! I'll probably be 2 cm and walk around at 2 for the next two weeks!
20.gif
You're not a disappointment but I do expect you to start baking!
3.gif
I am so over work clothes...I think it took me 30 minutes to get dressed this morning which is really ridiculous considering I only work for 4 hours!!

meresal~I agree with Mara, tums are your friend!! I keep some on my nightstand!!

ETA~HH and I think alike I see!!

Burk, Mara, and HH- Thanks for the recommendation. I will have to try them out!

What's weird though, is that it isn't heart burn in my chest and throat... it is just this "pill stuck in the back of my throat" feeling, and it is contantly making me feel like I have to burp constantly. It started up about 20 minutes ago here at work... and sometime it will last all day and into the night, and sometimes it will just bother me when I lay flat in the evening. Would Tums even help with that?

All right, Mara and QT. What is going on with us??? Do we all have the world''s most stubborn kids or...are we just trying to torment all the other good women who keep checking in for news?
9.gif

I am sure that my little guy doesn''t want to be born yet so that he doesn''t have to listen to me lecture him. I was giving my 2 teenagers the what for last night because their grades are not meeting our expectations and they both have this "oh, well" kind of attitude. My mom claims that all teenagers are like that these days and I hope that''s not true.

And then last night, apparently Will was having bad dreams so SO brought him into our bed, which was fine...until Will turned over at some point and hit me square in the nose with his huge hard head. I woke right up, obviously, thinking my nose was broken. Thank heavens it wasn''t, but it was not a good start to the day! Sheesh!

The good thing is that since nothing''s going on, I''ve started a new project at work on some stuff that I really like, so at least I''m not bored while I''m waiting.

Mara, you''re right about the belly after you deliver, but it does go down pretty quickly. The bad thing about it is that it''s squishy instead of that nice hard feeling when you''re pregnant. I always find the first couple of days post-partum to be the worst in terms of body image because I just feel fat and bloated.

mara bake some cupcakes!!! and the belly after you give birth, mine was ALMOST back to normal after i had noah. i started to go to the gym 2 wk PP and by 4 wk PP, i was into all my pre-preggo clothes without the lovely flab hanging over. it just took about 2 weeks to get the tummy toned again. i dropped the weight pretty quickly with noah.

with B, i dropped the weight quickly, but not as quickly, and it took months for me to get back to what i was pre-preggo. but i also didn''t start working out until about 6 wk PP.

and you were in such great shape before, you will definitely bounce back quickly.

ok Ladies. so desperate times call for desperate measures...a few 'natural' suggestions on bringing on labor:
http://www.lifepassages.net/NaturalInduction.html

i like the part where it says if you don't feel like sex to just insert the sperm as close as possible to the cervix. i knew that our turkey baster could come in handy!
6.gif

RPS...the hard belly actually drives me crazy right now because of my short torso, it's so close to my ribs and makes bending over or sitting just really uncomfortable. so a soft belly would at least be more comfy! but yeah prob not as cute. hehee.

girls i thought about cupcakes but i bought one from this yummy place yest (banana with fresh banana cream) and it's honestly one of my favorite banana cakes ever so i just ate that one instead of baking my own. wrong idea i know. HAHAA.

OK, first post on the big thread for me b/c I am desperate...

for those ladies with morning sickness, how did you get through work for the first trimester? I''m not even throwing up (yet) but this nausea is incapacitating! All I want to do is curl up in bed and moan. I have no idea what is going to happen at lunch time today. I could certainly tell people I''m not feeling well and crawl to my car and go home today... and probably stay home tomorrow too... but that''s not a good plan for the rest of the first trimester and I''m only six weeks! OK, off the self-pity theme.

Congrats Steph on your new boy!

Lindsey, I am so sorry you have a rough and stressful road ahead of you with this pregnancy, but have faith and I am hopeful that you will have different luck with this one and a beautiful boy in a few months to bring home.

Ladies near the end, I am in awe! There is an end? Haha. Good luck with the baking and pushing.

congrats Steph!!

Lins, so sorry about the news. thanks for explaining it to us. i''ll keep you and your family in my thoughts.

mara- ooooh, sounds like things are progressing. get to baking!!! i baked a zuchinni walnut bundt when i was in early labor & the minute i took it out of the oven, the contractions moved to 5 minutes apart. haha.

things are going ok here. i''m still not loving breastfeeding (not sure if i touched on that before) my milk took forever to come in & ever since it has, i feel like alli do is feed, pump, repeat. its not the bonding experience i had hoped it would be. buuuuuut, i am feeling better about the c section. i realize with my blood pressure dipping, me passing out, and the babe being completely lodged in my pelvis, there really was no other way. i realize that if this was 100 years ago, one of us or both of us might have died. the c section really was our only option for those, and other, reasons. so, im coming to terms with it

went to get the incision checked yesterday and had to see a-hold doctor. ended up in tears, yelled at a nurse because i had rescheduled with another doctor to avoid him, but she made a mistake. apologized & felt pretty miserable about it. oops. oh well. . .

good luck to everyone who''s due this week!!!

cara, for me i had nausea pretty much 2/3 of the day until about 14-15 weeks. it would come and go but yeah functioning at work esp until you tell people (i told around week 12) was extremely hard. i sit in a lot of meetings and i always had snacks and food with me, i think people thought i was just getting chubby from overeating! never getting 'hungry' was really important since that is when i felt the worst.

one thing that really helped me was sipping slowly on a Coke. i was never really a soda drinker but that REALLY helped me...the sugar in the syrup is calming to your stomach and a little caffeine helps too. i would nurture a coke for like 1-2 hours around lunchtime usually (to help me eat).

also i had ginger chews, ginger milk tea, peanuts and eating small bits of things would help too, aka granola bar here and there, bland oatmeal with honey. if something sounded good for lunch i would eat it, regardless of if it was good for me. some people say chewing gum helps. i had excess saliva too from heartburn and nausea and that made it worse, ugh.

my friend is about 10 weeks and she is having such a hard time. she is very slight and has lost 6 lbs already due to horrible nausea and vomiting. i feel so badly for her.

just keep reminding yourself its a finite period of time and you can make it. knowing there was a 'light' at the end of the tunnel at some point helps but it can be mentally draining to feel crappy for so long.

that pill stuck feeling is what i had at the beginning of my pregnancy. i found chewing gum helps. i think that feeling has now translated to actually heartburn. it could have been heartburn before, but without the burn. i''ve tried tums but i don''t find they do anything. feels like everything is just backing up in my thoat and even swallowing water sucks. i usually eat around 5 pm, but feel yucky until i fall asleep.

Maybe the constant swallowing that you have to do with gum is what helps? I will start carrying some with me.

You may be right. I don't eat much spicy stuff, so this may jsut be the annoying part of heart burn, without the burn. WATER is NOT my friend anymore. I usually have a bottle before I go to bed, and this has not helped with the burping thing when I lay down at night. You would think water would go right thru you, but no, it's like it sits right at the bottom of my throat.

The new mommy that I was talking with on Sunday, that had the horrible horrible heartburn, said that she had this same issue, and her doctor said the the stomach getting higher and higer also contributes to the feeling that food is sitting just below my throat. Who knew we would be able to tell how far our food has to travel after we eat it
33.gif

meresal- i hear you on the water. you''re suppose to drink water, but it''s either i can eat something or i can drink water. that''s the limit of my stomach. and well, i''ve got to eat lunch and dinner, right? the worst is when i eat something salty. all i want is water. and i feel miserable if i have a glass. and yes, it just collects in my throat. yuck. yuck. yuck.

Steph~ Big congratulations to you and your family! Welcome, Evan!! He is tiny!!

Lindsey~ Best of luck with the transfusions.

Thanks for the info and links to the bellabands!! I''m going to try one.

So, I''m just shy of 16 weeks and found out today that my WAIST has increased 4-5"!! My jeans still fit, the baby pushed everything up and out of his/her way so I have a weird protrusion above my belly button. I do not look pregnant, I look like I have the weirdest chubby figure ever! It''s so weird that I''m carrying differently already. I didn''t get anything above the belly button with JT until I was around 6 months.

Cara I''m sorry you''re feeling like poop these days
7.gif
I''ve had a few bouts with m/s off and on over the past few weeks. It started really early for me too. Mine is just a general feeling of nausea, not really throwing up, but feeling like ace just the same.

I''ve found the smell of ginger tea to be really helpful and eating regularly, like once an hour. You should see the amount of food I bring to work with me. The biggest thing is to fill your stomach early in the day with a good mix of protein, fat and carbs. For me it sets a good foundation for the day. Sometimes I have to force myself to eat in the morning as well, but it helps a lot. I''ve also got preggie pops which are sour hard candies. They''re tasty, but I''ve heard that regular hard candies like jolly ranchers work just as well.

LMAO, Mara...you must be getting to the end if you''re considering the turkey baster!! And I have a feeling that *eating* that banana cake isn''t quite the same as baking it -- although, dang, that sounds REALLY good.

Cello, I''m glad to see you back! As for breastfeeding, even though I''m super committed, with my other kids the first 6 weeks were really a trial and there were a lot of times that I thought I''d never get through. It wasn''t something I loved right off the bat -- I had to reach the point where baby and I were in sync. The two things that kept me going were setting small goals (when I thought about quitting, I simply vowed to get to the next day) and not keeping any formula in the house. Hang in there!

I''m sorry you had to see the jerk doctor! Maybe it was good that you got out some of your anger, though?

Cara, I had nausea every day from about noon until I went to bed. I never threw up, but I don''t think I could have been any greener. Like Mara, the biggest thing that helped was always having something in my stomach, and I didn''t worry at all about whether what I was eating was the healthiest or not. This wasn''t the time to turn anything down that might help!

I drank ginger ale and lemonade -- the ginger ale is tried and true for nausea, but for some reason, I actually craved lemonade.

I also wore Psi Bands and those really helped! These are similar to Sea Bands, but they''re all plastic, so they hold up better. I had Sea Bands initially and didn''t like the jersey on them because I had to take them off for showering. I wore at least 1 Psi Band at ALL times. It was really weird how sick I''d get immediately if I took them off.

Meresal, I wonder if you have actual reflux rather than just regular pregnancy-related heartburn. Years ago, I went to the dr because I had a lump in my throat (and I was actually convinced I had polyps or something like that, lol). He diagnosed me with GERD. Some people with reflux feel it further down as heartburn, but mine is high in my throat and rarely burns, but I get that lump feeling and then, if I don''t treat it, I will lose my voice in a couple of days. When I''m not pregnant, I only have episodes a couple of times a year, so I take Zantac during those episodes and the reflux calms down.

Being pregnant, though, KILLS me so I have to continue to take the Zantac. If I just have heartburn, I take Gaviscon tablets because I find them much more effective than Tums.

Some other things that you can try include: drinking sweet acidolphilus milk (if you can find it!), taking acidolphilus tablets, eating yogurt, drinking aloe vera juice (this is NASTY, but it works).

FRED FLINSTONE FEET: I forgot to post earlier that I gots ''em. I admit that I am horrible about keeping my feet up and I''m up and down all day or walking around. I''ve had very little swelling until now, but my feet look horrible and silly...and they hurt too.

A big ditto to the Preggy Pops - they are all-natural hard candies that hold the nausea at bay. I couldn''t stomach ginger of any kind (it made my m/s worse!), but the Preggy Pops were like crack, I went through so many because they worked so well. And I had really bad m/s until I was 4 months, and even now I occasionally still get it, though not as bad.

LOL RPS, the Frodo feet I totally have them. They aren''t puffy or anything, but all my shoes feel tight except for my Skechers, so I haven''t worn my work shoes in over a month.

Cara, for morning sickness, saltine crackers really helped me. I kept them next to my bed, in my car, at the office, everywhere. I was basically living on them for the first two months of both of my pregnancies. I also had to avoid the smells that really set me off - for me they were eggs, coffee, garlic, seafood, and meat. No one was allowed to brew coffee in our house until month 4
emsmilep.gif
In fact, for this pregnancy, I have been mostly vegetarian for the whole thing. Meat & seafood still aren''t sitting that well with me. The other night we went out for thai food, and I ordered a tofu dish. My husband was all grossed out, but the blandness was perfect for me
emsmile.gif

Oh and about the ginger. While the smell of ginger tea settles my stomach, the ginger candies can make my stomach burn. I love them though!

mere.. the burping is what i still get when i am laying down sometimes. to me it's all part of the heartburn, i get reflux, the burn, the burping. i used to have excess saliva along with nausea, ugh! tums and/or maalox (for gas and heartburn) helped me. sometimes you have to take more than one tums i found. the chewable citrus ones were the tastiest.

rps, lol re: the banana cake, yeah i know it's not quite the same thing.

oh and i loved lemonade in first trimester, juices, and chocolate milk. i didn't drink water AT ALL and i used to live on it.

used to love meat and i hated it til almost week 18. now i can't have enough meat and beef, love it again. same with water, i drink a ton now.

just eat whatever you can and what sounds good. i didn't worry about what i was eating just that i was eating.

re: bloating and feet..i have been pretty lucky in that i am just a little bloated but some days were worse than others for sure, sometimes my feet looked huge! i have been wearing flats since month 6 i think. hehe.

Definitely opt for preggo pops instead of other hard candies like Jolly Rancher. I was eating lots of Jolly Rancher to help with nauseous, and I gained a lot of weights b/c of the extra sugar.

Mara
That banana cupcake sounds delicious.

We just got back from lunch. The waitress at the restaurant said that I am carrying the baby very well. I said thanks, but I bet she didn't know I am already due. hehe.

I have an appointment tomorrow if baby doesn't come by today, and we'll pick an induction date. We are thinking Monday.

Mara ,

What does that site say about Castor oil?? I am SOOOO NOT suggesting that you try it. But do know some friends who used it.
I am hoping you go soon!!

These last few days are sooo painful. I was 26 when I had DD, and was in agony at the end. Everything hurt, hips, legs, feet swollen, and my esophogus was toast, Ash kicked the heck out of it...

I remember having the last dinner out. Not thinking a thing and then in the fancy restaurant my water broke!!! I was drenched, the chair was drenched. We knew the manager, he was sooo cute and held a table cloth as I made my exit..... It served as a bit of a curtain, LOL!!

Buying a cupcake doesn''t count. You can sit in a chair, and have Greg do the baking, I think that counts!!!

Hang in there!!!

Time to do some baking ladies! Can''t wait till all the new babies make their appearance! Hopefully VERY SOON!

my hubby totally tried to get me to drink Castor oil with jake and I don''t think he was kidding

cara-mara''s advice worked for me too. never let yourself get hungry b/c it makes it worse. Always carry snacks with you, crackers, granola bars etc. even if you can only eat a few bites, try not to let your stomach get empty. I also LIVED on Coke during my pregnancies. I''m not a coffee drinker but I did drink a reg. coke almost every day and it was the only thing that helped me feel somewhat better or at least be able to function with the morning sickness. I also used to suck on the citrus altoids.

Cara~ I had awful morning sickness! Lemon drops worked a bit for me, going slower helped (no rushing or bending), I couldn''t keep my belly full so not sure if that works or not. Ice helped the most. I think it numbed my throat muscles a bit so I didn''t feel as gaggy. Good luck, I know it''s miserable. With JT, i had it for 7 months, this one I was over it right around the end of the first tri.

38 week appt today. and nothing. big surprise huh? the doc did ask me what i thought about inducing if nothing happens by next week, which i''m reluctant to do right now. she told me quite a few ladies by 39 weeks request induction because they''re so uncomfortable. luckinly i''m doing ok and i really wnat labor to start naturally. so right now the plan is to ride out to 40 and check my amniotic fluid level. i was on the low side at 37 weeks. if the fluid is too low, she''s recommending inducing at 40. if it''s ok, she''ll let me ride to 41
32.gif
. sigh. i have to say i was pretty bummed.
7.gif
i know i''m only at 38 weeks but i was hoping for SOMETHING.

rps - another freddy here. i''m also bad at sitting down and putting my feet up. but forunately i didn''t really have problems with that until these past couple of weeks.

cara - 1 had 24/7 nausea during the first tri and the best thing was continuous snacking. i kept a little baggie of nuts and dried fruit in my pocket and just muched all day. ditto to whoever said the nausea is worst if let yourself get hungry.

qt - wow...monday! i have a niggling feeling i"ll be in your shoes come 40 weeks.

burk - hope you had a better appointment then i did!!!

kaleigh - omg...what a crazy story! man that is quite a dramatic entrance!!

gingerB
My ob is ok with doing induction once his patients pass 39 weeks. To be honest, I am not uncomfortable, but I guess I just want an end in date. I still hope to go into labor naturally before then.

Hello, Ladies

I had my appointment today and the doc said that I am 1 cm! I was pretty scared because I wasn''t expecting to hear anything til next appointment. I am officially off work because I am not comfortable anymore and barely get any hours of sleep. I work nights and my line of work is high paced and at times stressful. I don''t want to take chances with the door slowly opening!
3.gif

I am crossing fingers for you ladies that are due soon to progress sooner rather than later and have your babies soon by your side!

Happy Friday, everyone!

Ginger, it sounds like your OB has a good plan. Low amniotic fluid is a very valid reason for inducing, but I''m glad to see that she''s taking a conservative approach. You may find that your discomfort sort of levels out -- I felt much more uncomfortable at 39 weeks than I do now at either 41+2 or 40+1 (whichever I am because of the 2 due dates). It''s sort of odd to me that my back and hips are hurting less and I''m sleeping better. Where you are is a hard time in pregnancy IMHO because you know labor should be right around the corner, you''re anxious to meet your little one, and then when you hear that "nothing" is happening, it''s easy to conclude that nothing will happen for 2, 3 or more weeks. Lots is happening behind the scenes, though! Your little one is getting all ready to come out into this scary world, putting on more fat to cope with blah winter and having some last minute brain development so he can be as smart as his mama. =)

MTJ, congrats for being off work! I hope that you can take it easy and enjoy some down time before your baby comes!

We are supposed to get 6-10 inches of snow tomorrow!! This is freaking me out a little bit because even though my midwife has a good vehicle for the snow, it''s not 4WD, and when we get that much snow, everything is pretty much shut down. I guess the good thing is that SO does have a 4WD truck that can get through a lot of snow quite safely so he could theoretically go pick her up.

People are really ticking me off now because sometimes they just don''t THINK before they say something.

Yesterday when I went to day care to pick up Will, one of the ladies did the usual, "You haven''t had that baby yet? You need to be in the hospital!!!" Um, yeah. You all know darn well I''m planning a homebirth, my midwife has a lot of experience and there is absolutely no reason for me to be in the hospital right now. So I''m overdue! Big whoop! Before I go running off to the hospital to be induced, I''d be trying natural labor inducers and having non-stress tests to make sure that the baby is still fine. Sheesh.

Last night, SO''s mom called and had a brief conversation with him. The part I heard was him saying, "I''m not going to pass out, Mom. I''m sure we''ll be fine." One time when he was 12, he felt a little bit dizzy when they were slaughtering a cow and had to sit down. This was over 30 years ago! And ONE TIME. He was at the births of his 3 kids with his ex and he was with me when Will was born. He did not even get dizzy, much less pass out.

I love his mom, but sometimes she totally pisses me off because she says stuff that is just plain stupid and unsupportive. At his family''s Christmas party, she came up when I was talking to SO''s cousin (who is a nurse) and said, "Do you know they''re planning to have the baby at home?" I think she expected the cousin to start poo-pooing the idea and change our minds -- but the cousin didn''t and she was REALLY supportive. If his mom had questions about the safety of homebirth or our midwife''s experience or whatever, she *could* ask us, but she chooses to do things in a passive aggressive way instead. It''s similar to when she announced that she was buying a crib for this baby instead of finding out why we believe in co-sleeping so much.

And then there''s my friend who is making me avoid FaceBook because every couple of days, she posts something on my wall asking if anything is happening. I''m going to change my status to "promises to tell everyone when the baby is born...unless they keep asking me about it."

I''m just glad that I''m feeling good these days -- otherwise, I''d have people really hating me.

mtj..maybe you are next haha. but don''t worry, you could be 1cm for weeks, my coworker was 3cm for a week before she went into labor. if anything all of us due ladies are a testament to ''whatever the heck your body wants'' lol. just get your bag ready in case!

ginger, don''t be discouraged...my friend who was 4cm a day or so ago had her baby boy at 3pm yesterday, yay! the first of 3 due on the same day. funniest thing is she was like closed up pretty tightly til this week and then boom! she totally thought i''d be first but nope!

i am still here. i am giving in and making chocolate chip cookies this morning in an effort to appease the PS baking birth gods. i figure they are easily transportable and quick from start to finish hehe, yet still count as ''baking''.

my hips are KILLING me and i don''t think it''s from just laying on my side last nite since the pain is different. i read that hip pain is part of pre-labor so bring it on. last nite also after our 2nd walk of the day i definitely was having back-squeezing contractions, but they didn''t progress. they lasted til about 3am and then have mostly subsided except for one every once in a while. so maybe this kid just wants to be really punctual on his due date. when i stand up at all my back really hurts but when i lay down it almost totally subsides. i just want something to either HAPPEN or NOT happen because i hate the waiting game and the ''is it? isn''t it?'' kind of attitude. do it or not, body, but enough with the torment!

and last nite i had my first taste of ''wow this is pretty darn uncomfortable'' back pain with the squeezing, which led me to tell Greg maybe this kid could just stay in there forever, hehe.
