Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

I''ve been reading all of your updates. Although it certainly seems as if MonkeyPie should be next, the way Micah has been holding out, one never knows! jcrow and meresal and vespergirl, it sounds as if you might just be ready sooner than you expected to be! I wish all of you the best of luck. It sounds as if you are all pulling into the final stretch. I guess next year will be your babies'' first Easters and Passovers!

Pandora, I hereby eat my words! I would love to bathe the baby in front of the TV!

Swimmer, I''m so sorry to hear about your friend. What a tough situation to go through.

Meresal, I''m so glad to hear the move went well and I can''t wait to see nursery pics...hint hint. Is that second belly pic in the NEW bathroom?? Sounds like things are happening pretty quickly. I''m sure DH is looking forward to enjoying baseball this season with his new little buddy.

HH, is it the difference between paid and unpaid FMLA or just being entitled to the time off period? If it''s unpaid, maybe your employer will be flexible? I get 6 weeks paid and 12 weeks FMLA total. I can apply for more but, with the market still being shaky, it seems a bit risky.

Cara, I''m a little late but congrats on sharing your news! It makes everything feel so real.

JCrow, I definitely think the maternity shoot was a great idea! It''ll be so hard to remember what this time was like in hindsight. Can''t wait to hear how the belly bandit works!

MP, I sure do hope Micah has made his appearance!

As for me, we spent some time with my ILs yesterday. My tolerance is sort of low right now and they were really annoying me. FIL said he thought Henry was "weird and unusual" and he guesses these days you have to name your kid "something trendy". He also noted that we should be careful that we don''t give him a name that other kids bully him over. His suggestion? Gary - yes, we should name our baby Gary. DD got a kick out of that as "Gary" is the snail on Spongebob. We also got a passive agressive lecture from MIL about chemicals in plastic and how we should use glass bottles. I think I lost my sense of humor because I can''t even laugh these things off anymore. They must think I''m such a B. MIL will be watching the baby full time at least for a little while so I''m trying to figure out how I can be more tolerant. She keeps saying she wants to *shadow* me on my maternity leave. NNNOOOOOOOOOOO!

40w, 3d. ARG!

I hear you guys on the rolling over issue. It''s been actual pain for me for awhile now, mostly in the crotch area, hah. If DH is home and I roll over he will wake up when I grunt and groan and generally whine about it, and rub my back for awhile. That helps a lot.

And I just plowed into the edge of one of those tall recycling bins with my belly. OW.

Pupp-I get zero paid time for maternity leave. We have to use a combo of sick, STD and vaca time to make up the 12 weeks. My company actually has a fantastic sick/vaca plan. I just haven''t worked here long enough to enjoy it. If you''ve been here for 5 years or more you get 31 sick days each year. So that, combined with the STD and vacation time should be 12 weeks or more for some people. For me, I''m only going to have a combined 21 days of sick and vaca so even if they give me the last 4 weeks off, I''ll have to go unpaid. I chatted briefly with my boss last week and she seemed confident that we could work something out. Either take the last 4 unpaid all together, go half time or work from home (or a combo of the two).

I just got back from my 16 week check up. For some reason their measurement is off and they have me down for 15/5 when I''m 16 today. I''m a little annoyed. I feel like I wear my gestational "age" like a badge of honor! I''m going in for the anatomy scan (hopefully) on the 22 or 23rd. Because of the heart defect my niece was just diagnosed with we''ll have to go see the perinatologist for it vs having it done in the OB''s office. I can''t say I really mind, we loved the woman we met with for the NT scan (NOT the u/s tech though) and the pictures are better
27.gif
I was pushing for them to do the scan on the 16th (I''m traveling the 18th through the 21st) but the MW wasn''t having it.

that''s how mine is. funny i said i don''t get up to pee much... last night i got up twice. the first time was painful. when i got halfway up, my belly tightened so hard and hurt on top of the crotch pain. youch!

HH, I''m glad it sounds like you''ll be able to work something out. DH and I are in a similar position. I get 6 weeks STD (full pay) then I have to take vacation. I get 27 days per year and I''m hoarding my days like crazy. Thanks to the multiple blizzards we''ve had here, I had to use 3 already. That means I''ll come up at least a week short at the end of my leave - more realistically, it''ll probably be 2 or 3 by the time this kiddo is born. We''ve thought about reducing my leave to 10 weeks because missing that paycheck will hurt and will most certainly come from savings. We''ll just have to decide if that 2 weeks is worth the loss of an entire paycheck. Now, it feels like it will be but we''ll see where we are then.

Ugh PM, that stinks. The really frustrating thing about my company''s set up is that STD doesn''t kick in until the 21st missed day. So you have to get through the first month without it. But it only covers you up to 6 (VB) or 8 (CS) weeks after the birth event, so by the time the 21 days has elapsed you only benefit from 2-4 weeks of STD coverage and it''s not retroactive either. It''s a really stupid and just about worthless set up.

Hi gang

Pandora--okay, okay, too quick to judge on the bucket i guess ;o)

MP--Micah still toying with you eh? grrr. And the days feel long when you post about it on PS. I remember when i was overdue and MrsS, Lili and Tgal all had their babes before me and yet i was the FIRST one due of the group. When i got to 40+13 days I was usually crying while posting on here (seriously i was *stressed*) so i have nothing but empathy for how anxious you are feeling now

Mer--you look great! Not triple in size, just dropping (and that''s a good thing!!)

Soexcited: you look terrific too! Hitting 30 weeks feels like count down time doesn''t it?!

Jcrow--i think you''ll be happy you took the photos! I might try the belly bandit too so make sure you post your results/feedback. I think it''s hard to know if it really works since you can''t compare it to what would happen if you hadn''t used it, but it can''t hurt. I didn''t do anything my last pregnancy and my belly went back to normal (with work) fairly quickly, but this time i need to get into a BM dress 7 weeks post partum so iam gonna use all the tricks out there!

Nothing much to report here. I am feeling less sore lately/exhausted which is nice, i''ve been able to keep up with my usual gym routine and run after my little monkey. It''s interesting how one week i can feel like an 80 yr old , and then the next have more energy & feel pretty normal --at least that''s what i find. My energy levels go in spurts. The only thing i am finding really tough right now is carrying my son. He''s 30 lbs and i always favor one side when i lift him so i find that my abs on that side almost feel like they are tearing sometimes. I can''t avoid carrying him altogether, but i am trying to be more careful!

Puppmom and HH, sorry about your sucky leave situations. I would be eligible for a reasonable leave package (at least under US standards) but my contract runs out apx. 9 weeks after the due date. So... Interviewing while super-preggo, with a delayed start date? Interviewing post-pardum? Will my current people reappoint me? Questions.

OK MP, time for some baking! When will the docs give you some labor-assistance?

Vesper, it is getting close for you too! Exciting!

Swimmer, what a horrible ordeal for your friends. This baby-making stuff is so fraught with tragedy at times. I hope they are able to mourn their loss and have a happier pregnancy outcome when they are ready.

Dreamer, even among people that would not terminate a pregnancy, some would really want to know about their special needs or terminally-afflicted baby ahead of time rather than merrily proceeding with the pregnancy. Some of those people would get an amnio if the screening test results were bad enough, even if they didn't consider amnio an option initially and still wouldn't abort. I think half of parents of Down's babies, for example, would prefer to know ahead of time rather than find out at or shortly after the birth (even if they would choose to carry the pregnancy). The infamous Sarah Palin is an example of this approach - she had early testing, even thought about abortion though she is staunchly pro-life and decided against it, and says she dealt with a fair bit of the mental fallout during her pregnancy rather than after her boy was born. Not being a fan of her politics, maybe I would have preferred she to have been shocked and dealing with her newborn son and his condition rather than launching her national political career later that year, but that is my problem
2.gif
There are also people that, when confronted by a situation, find themselves making decisions they didn't expect to be making - and that could go both ways. Long way of saying, for people that want the screening, I don't think that willingness to abort under some circumstance should be a prerequisite. But I can see how *some* people would prefer not to know, would worry too much about long odds or uncertainties, or don't see the point if it wouldn't change their pregnancy course. To each their own.

Ok, had a bit of a preggo bi$chyfest last night. Might be long. DH was on-call from home and when he tries to sleep in our room on-call this generally means I get a crappy night's sleep (not as bad as his, obviously) as he generally gets paged multiple times and eventually has to go in, sometimes come back in a few hours, get paged again, etc. Being on call is certainly no fun for him, but I guess my selfish perspective is that we aren't getting paid for *me* to get woken up in the middle of the night so maybe I should be able to get a good night's sleep. Now that I'm preggo, its even worse, as I seem to both need more sleep and sleep lighter and find it difficult to fall back to sleep, etc. Plus, I just generally don't want to cuddle in bed now, I want my space, so I feel I spend half the night trying to creep away 'up' the sides of our U-shaped saggy mattress when my husband rolls towards me (I'm not even talking about hanky-panky here - separate topic! - just physical space). So I end up sleeping perched on a hill while he sleeps in the flat middle of the bed. This is an issue even not on call nights, as I think he feels rejected or something, or maybe just likes being closer and doesn't understand why I want space now.

So last night, I was feeling particularly peckish and knew it was going to be an issue when he came to bed with his beeper and woke me up the first time. I then got up and tried to sleep in the guest room early in the evening, but he came and asked me to come back, which I did. But of course then I get woken up (not even ridiculous amounts!) another couple times, even though hubs was trying to be quiet, and I got upset and kind of stormed off to the guest bedroom for the second time sometime in the middle of the night. I think I am supposed to call and apologize now.

Anyway. I guess I'm stressing over what to do next year, when we will both have a baby and hubs will go from his current schedule of on-call once or twice a month to on call every 4 days most of the time, as we can't even figure this out without the baby and with an extra bed in the house. We are planning on turning the guest bedroom into a nursery and getting rid of the guest bed - but then there will be no second adult sleeping appliance in the house to escape to, and I see myself going crazy if there is a screaming baby alternating with a buzzing pager all night long. Heck, the baby alone is enough to turn most women a little crazy

Oh GODS, you went that far? I am so sorry
23.gif
And here I thought 3 days was bad enough!

I''m pretty sure they got my due date wrong. When I got pregnant, I knew exactly what day it happened (at the time our schedules were conflicting, so we only DTD once that month), and I calculated it myself and got a due date of April 10th. When they told me it was the 2nd, I thought it was weird but assumed I was wrong. Now I am reconsidering that! He isn''t making any progress at all, though he is dropping more and more all the time.

Cara, they won''t induce me until the 16th!
39.gif
Just thinking about being pregnant that long kills me, but as long as the baby is healthy I am trying to focus on that. I tried baking this weekend but nothing happened lol. Maybe I baked the wrong thing
3.gif
And I totally feel for you with the on-call DH - I get my best sleep in the very early morning hours and early afternoon, and both are times when my DH wants to be in bed and snuggling. I just can''t deal with it nowadays!

Just a quick pop-in...

MP~ I can''t believe you haven''t gotten that little guy out yet!! What is he doing in there?? You''ll need to start sending up sandwiches soon!

I have a dr appt tomorrow. Dust for a good heartbeat and appropriate growth would be great! If this appt goes well, I''ll go back to the big hospital in another week to hopefully get the all-clear for a healthy last tri!

SS, I think I may be gestating a hermit.

Jas12 - i know what you mean. the belly bandit is sort of like stretch mark cream. you wonder if it''s doing anything, but worry if you don''t use it you''ll get stretch marks! haha. when i went to the maternity store, the lady talked me into it. she said everyone LOVES it. plus she had one set aside on hold for someone + while i was there, someone else called about them and asked for her to hold one for her. it''s a small and posh maternity store... and all that suckered me in. haha. so, i walked away with a bamboo one which is SO much softer than the original one. we''ll see if it works!

MP, sending you more labor dust! Hang in there! How did your dr date your pregnancy? LMP or u/s measurement?

Sorry, too tired to catch up. Yesterday was the first day I didn''t have any m/s at all so I THINK it may be gone for good. About time, I''m 13 weeks tomorrow! I am soo tired though. I took a nap Sat and Sun and I''m dying for a nap right now!

LOL ew!

Snlee, it was by LMP. I''ve always measured on time so I thought it was right, and it very well may be, this baby is just a slowpoke hehe.

Mara- I am definitely ''hanging'' in there.. or, more importantly, the baby is. I feel like he is barely hanging on. It''s like I''m lower and bigger every single morning. All of my midnight trips to the bathroom seem to be harder and harder each time I roll over in bed. I''m not thinking it''s going to be much longer...

Vesper- The move is going wonderfully! We got the entire nursery done, except for painting the lower wall and adding the chair rail. I hope I hold out longer than you, but it''s not looking too promising to me, lol. How are you feeling? Does it *feel* like it;s almost labor time? Your belly pics look great!

Snlee- No new measurements, but just that my belly wasn''t getting bigger (which has changed ALOT!)... but he is measuring right at 50th percentile.

SoExcited- You look great! I didn''t realize how far along you were!

Jcrow- I''m sorry for scaring you. Unfortunately it has become worse! (Check my update at the bottom of this post!) Yay for maternity photos! I bet they look awesome! We can all do belly bandit updates. I am looking forward to seeing how this thing works.

Pandora- Like I said in my last post... everyone I have talked to that had used this thing RAVES about it. However, being so tall, I''m surprised you said that it didn''t bother your back. It looks painful to be bending over like that.
(OMG about the sahving, LOL!!!)

Fiery- I''m feeling VERY much like you right now! I don''t think there is any way I am going more than 2 more weeks.

**MY UPDATE**- I feel like I have tripled in size, baby is lower every morning, and I am losing my plug!!!

Here is my updated pic from Friday (36w2d):
9.gif
My back was one of the reasons for choosing it - it needs so little water that it''s not heavy to carry or empty etc. The bending over issue is why I bathed her on the floor while sitting on the sofa (in front of the TV
9.gif
).

Nowadays we either have a shower or a big bath together as it does kill my back bending over the bath.

Sounds like bebe will be here sooner rather than later!

MP - LABOR DUST.!!! At least you are a little reassured that you think they had your date wrong from the start... if anyone knows when you DTD I would hope it would be you.. (I understand the little swimmers can hang around for a while in there, but they can''t get there before you put em in.. haha)

Jas- Yes, 30 weeks.... The nursery is 95% done so reality is setting in now that it''s closer!! Good thing... get this acrobat outta me! I have an appt tomorrow and just dread the scale!! I was in such better shape for our first and can definately tell by the amount I am showing this time around and also the weight gain... Don''t get me wrong, I am not overgaining by the Docs standards, but by mine...... a different story! I''m with you on the carrying the toddler thing.. Our DD is 31lbs and I can definately tell that I''m lifting her now when it comes to getting in and out of the carseat and especially in and out of shopping carts.. (Her feet ALWAYS stick cuz shes a big foot!!)

I hear alot about the belly band and am considering it as well, but does anyone have any experience with the Shrinkx Hips? I needed the shrinkage BEFORE the baby, and definately want them to go back to Pre-prego

re: Shrinkx Hips - that was the other product the lady at the maternity store recommended. i couldn''t justify buying both and since people had called + put on hold the belly bandit and that''s where i think i''ll need the work, i just bought that.

That is what I am getting. I am more focused on my hips than my waist... so this one seemed more like what I would like.

Hello Lovely Preggos!

THANKS to you who chimed in on my vent post last week. I felt so self-centered just writing about me and my troubles, but I had to get it all out.

It’s been almost a week since I got the GD news and I’ve been on the diet since last Thursday. My Peri is on the conservative side, so my daily eating plan factors in 20% carbs- the dietician slipped and told me that the plan that she gives all other preggos consists of 30% carbs. But I really didn’t eat that a ton of carbs before, so the adjustment hasn’t been that tough. However, I do crave a good sandwich every so often, so that will need to be addressed at some point!

I test my blood sugar with the monitor 4x a day and I’ve been consistently on track each time (nowhere near the high range), which kinda makes me wonder if all this is even necessary. But, I’m doing whatever it takes to keep bebe healthy and following Dr.’s orders. I did develop a bit of a sweet tooth during my pregnancy, and admit that I’d eat small amounts of candy/chocolate or drink juice almost daily. I’ve obviously gone cold-turkey on that, but just wonder if doing that alone would’ve controlled my blood sugar.

In other news, I’m now at 28 weeks (and 4d today) so I’m in the third trimester! My belly has REALLY grown and bebe’s movements are much stronger- it’s so cool! I have my next ultrasound and 3D/4D session this week, so I’m looking forward to that. I’m sure that my Peri will discuss my GD, so It will be interesting to get her take on my condition once I show my monitoring log.

Swimmer- I’m sorry to hear about your friend. I hope that she finds peace. Yes- knowledge is powerful.
Mere- Looking GOOD, girl!
Jas- Good for you on continuing with the gym workouts! I’m down to 3x a week- wish I could do more
pupp- I hear you on the low-tolerance thing. I know that folks mean well, but sometimes I just want to bite their heads off!
Cara- I too have found that I’m sleeping MUCH lighter at night and it’s hard to get to sleep. UGH
Jcrow- how did you ever go this long without having to get up at night to pee? Glad to hear that your photo session went well- I hope you’ll share pics.
MP- It sounds like they did get your due date wrong. Either that or you have a little stubborn one on your hands!
SS- Dust for a good Dr. appt tomorrow. Here’s to a healthy last tri!
Snlee- I do hope you’re done with the MS
SoExcited- I envy your almost completed nursery! We’re actively house-hunting so that has been put on hold…
HH- I too LOVE the u/s pics from my Peri versus the ones I used to get at my GYN’s- they’re so much more detailed!
Hmmm… Shrinkx Hips? Have to pop into my local Momma/preggo shop to check it out. This same shop RAVES about the Belly Bandit!

ChargerGrrl - gosh your post sounds just like my gd journey. i was monitoring mine daily and it my sugar levels were stellar. honestly, because i really watched what i ate. anyway, when i showed my ob, she said i could start monitoring it every other day and only after my three meals [some docs want you to test 8-10 times a day].

i will recommend lindor''s 86% dark cocoa chocolate squares. my dietitian was shocked how little carbs/sugar it had in them and said i could have them
9.gif

the recommended serving size is 4 squares but i eat one. they have kept me sane.

i have NO idea how i don''t have to pee like every other preggo seems to. and one of the indicators of gd is having to pee frequently. strange!

SQUEE!!!! I just found out my good friend is pregnant!!!!

Cara, perhaps get a new mattress. Seriously, I have felt your pain and must say we are much happier people and our evening interactions are so much better now that I am not clinging to the side of the mattress. Lady, it is only going to get harder for you to hang on goat-like to that precipice. I am so happy we splurged and got a queen sized bed... perhaps the best 1k we have ever spent. Worth a million in therapy at least. I am not joking. As you get heavier (w/ baby, you will stay svelte of course) on an old mattress you can just feel the hard spots/coils in your hips and you get sore faster with less quality sleep. A new one is priceless I say!

HH can tell you how pumped I was about getting a new bed, man it has been awesome, sadly a king would be the size of our entire room.

Ditto, ditto, ditto!

I have a memory foam mattress and I think I might have actually died without it!

i think i jinxed myself talking about not needing the restroom much. i got up 4 times last night to go! and getting up is NOT easy or comfortable
14.gif

Re: peeing....I''ve just started getting up 4 x a night to pee and i am only 31 weeks
39.gif
One of the joys of the second pregnancy i guess, baby is lower.
We can all kiss a full night''s sleep goodbye for the better part of year. Comforting thought huh ?
14.gif

Jcrow--yep, the cream is exactly the same. I know there is really no evidence for it working on stretch marks, but i do put it on anyway!
i was going to get the bamboo bandit as well. I''ve heard it''s softer and other reviews i''ve read (negative ones) were about the bandit being too uncomfortable for long term wear, so maybe the bamboo remedies that a bit. I''ll probably sell mine on ebay if i don''t end up using it.

Soexcited--oh shopping carts. The worst! I have a radar for choosing the one where the seat flap thing won''t click down and i struggle with 30 lbs of wiggling kid above my head trying to get him sitting. Pure torture. And i love how it''s some kind of rule for preggos not to carry things. Guess that only applies to the first pregnancy
40.gif
lol.
My nursery is, um, drywalled...oy.

MP--Yep, went the full 42 weeks. i could have been induced a little earlier -at day 10 or 12, but i wanted to go on my own b/c BP was good and NST were normal. Like you, i was pretty sure the DD was off. I sometimes have really long cycles so i probably ovulated a week later. It''s hard to do, but remind yourself that 42 weeks and *over* is actually considered overdue. We all say overdue once we hit our DD, but that''s not accurate. It''s not like on that very day things expire or something. It''s very very rare that someone goes truly overdue. Yes, the placenta is aged by 40 weeks--that''s natural, but that''s why birth happens soon after.

What are your thoughts on early gender detection? We have a 3d/4d place here that will do the u/s at 15 weeks but wont guarantee it until 17 weeks. We can go next week and then at 17 or 18 to confirm for only $25. I just don''t know the accuracy at 15 weeks. What are your experiences? Thanks

I''ve been peeing 4x a night since I was around 23 weeks. At nearly 26 weeks, I''m getting used to it. But the thought of continuing for the next 3.5 months is awful. I''ve even tried limiting my fluid in the later hours. It doesn''t work. Last night I peed twice before bed, 4x during the night and then first thing this morn. That is 7 pee trips in 9 hours!

That''s all for now. I''ll post after my appt.
