Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

popping in to say puppmom - I love all of those prints. incredibly cute!!

also hoping the soft marker means nothing HH

happy 14th week blushing!!!

will post properly in a bit.

Puppmom, I KNOW! So surreal. I keep looking around the house and thinking about what has to change, but we keep hitting inertia and such on the renovations. Also I don''t think that hubs has a bee in his bonnet the same way - but he is going back on call in the hospital starting in July (ie. will be highly unavailable for all kinds of heavy lifting and such), and we are going to be away at least half the weekends in May and June, so I kind of see the clock ticking on the wall....

Allie, I thought the same thing as you and was kind of shocked when my doctor also quoted a 1:200 like miscarriage rate - like isn''t it way better than that now? OK I''m looking it up, here goes (a recent review article): "It may thus be concluded that data from randomised controlled trials as well as from systematic reviews and a large national registry study are consistent with a procedure-related miscarriage rate of 0.5–1.0% for amniocentesis as well as for CVS. In single-center studies performance may be remarkably good due to very skilled operators, but these figures cannot be used for general counselling."

So basically get the most experienced person possible to do the procedure, and the loss rates can be better than 1:1000, but 1:200 is the number the general OBs have to tell you going in?

I guess our doc was right/conservative when talking to us. Next we had asked her what an amnio would cost if we just wanted one done for reassurance, and that put an end to such considerations! Well, if we get worse odds along the way maybe it would be worth it for peace of mind, but hopefully insurance would cover it in that case anyway. Did you end up having any further testing?

Swimmer, I am not so horrified at *you* in your old bikini, but my body hasn''t been bikini ready in a decade or so and I don''t think pregnancy has aided in this regard! I will have to see where I can get a bigger training suit. Not sure I am brave enough to try on one of my old suits and wait for the stretch to take.

Here I am at my usually 4-6 am can''t sleep preggo thing. Then usually I manage to fall back asleep and its not so good for getting in to work early. Sigh...

Hudson, congrats on team blue!!!

Boys just rock!

Blushing, I''m so glad everything is going well with you!!!! Congrats on 14 weeks! How''s that bump coming along??? I want to see some pics!!!!. Not to discourage you, but you may (most likely) end up with a c-section. I wanted to try vaginally if possible (aka: both babies facing the right direction!) but in my case Baby A was always vertex. So anyway, just know that with twins Drs are less likely to try vaginally if one (or both) babies are vertex.

Are you guys still doing BPF? I love baby bumps!

Not yet...at the ultrasound scan they were able to locate the nasal bone and the neck thickness was .8mm? or something like that. I am still waiting for the blood test results. They said it could take about 5 days to get them back, we had the blood work and the NT scan done last Friday, they also said that "No news is good news" so I am hoping to not get a phone call from them. I have a doctors appointment next Tuesday so maybe they will have some numbers for me then.

Mandarine - I posted my bump last Friday.
5.gif
I took my weekly photo at home last night and there''s not much of a difference. I''ve had some bad morning sickness this week - ugh! I thought that goes away in the 2nd trimester!
20.gif
Anyway, my doctor also told me that I''ll most likely have a c-section so, I''m preparing myself for that. If both babies are positioned the right way, I''d definitely try vaginally, but if not, it''s OK.

Mara - thanks for the encouraging words. To be honest, I was never fearful of L&D or a C-section until I read MP''s post. To be fair, I''m petrified of needles (although I''ve gotten a little better with them since TTC and becoming preggo twice because I was constantly getting blood drawn) and part about the epi just gave me chills!

Cara and Allie - is there a reason you are both considering amnio''s? Did I miss something? Or are you just doing it for extra reassurance?

Happy Friday All!

Happy Friday All!

We are NOT considering it YET. We haven''t gotten our results from the NT scan. I just mentioned it because of all of the talk about HH and amnio. When we went for out NT scan we met with the geneticist first, and she just threw those numbers out there while she was talking about all of the screenings and the procedures.

I hope that we will not have to be put in the situation that we need to even consider it...so now we are just cautiously waiting the results from the blood screening.

Gotcha - I must have missed the part where you said you met with the geneticist BEFORE your NT scan. Good luck with the blood screening - here''s hoping everything is normal and the amnio isn''t even a thought.

Allie, with regards to the NT scan results. It''s one of those tests where if you test within normal ranges they wont call with the results. They''ll only let you know if there''s a problem. So for us we didn''t know what our results were until we were at the anatomy scan (they said they were normal). When the perinatologist came in to tell us about the white spot he said that our chances before that were 1 in 1100 and after finding the spot they were 1 in 550 so the spot increased our chances by 2 times. I''ve seen numbers tossed out like a good number is 1 in 350,000, etc but according to them the 1 in 1100 was ok and low risk.

What we''re debating now is the risk of the amnio compared to the risk of d/s. From the research we''ve done online, when not combined with other soft markers the spot isn''t really a concern. The chances are still VERY good that we''ll have a healthy unaffected baby as this is the only marker that is present. All bones are present and accounted for and there are no spots on the brain, etc. So we sort of felt silly for freaking out after the appointment, but the perinatologist made a big stink about it so naturally we were concerned.

We''re going to meet with the OB on Monday to realistically discuss what the spot means, what our chances are really like and the risks associated with the amnio.

So please don''t start to panic just because of what we learned this week. Every person and situation is different and even if your NT scan shows you having a higher chance, it doesn''t mean you''re actually going to. These are not definitive tests after all.

re the published amnio risks... i asked our peri about this before he did the amnio on us (one of my 500 q's)...aka why do hospitals quote you 1:200 or 1:300 when there is a study that notes 1:1600. OBVIOUSLY a huge disparity. his response was that hospitals prefer to err on the side of conservative and also that typically when they take stats for losses they will include a very large 'post' period, aka 4-6 weeks. his response was frank in saying that if a loss happened 4 weeks later 'chances are' good it was not from the amnio, potentially a loss that would have happened anyway, but they still include it in the amnio stats. so for that post-period. he felt as though the conservative numbers included a fair amt of losses that might not have been amnio related. in his opinion he felt like an amnio related loss would happen fairly quickly, aka within 1-2 weeks, maybe even more like 1. i am sure asking diff peri's might net diff answers but i felt comfortable with that answer.

if you gals do consider an amnio, be sure to get a peri, and someone who does amnios very often. this guy did like 300-400 a year. you don't want someone who does them as part of a regular OB practice and does like 1 a month, as they won't be as experienced or as comfortable themselves. he was extremely confident and set us at ease. and thank goodness our little jumping bean stayed sedentary for those 45 seconds, felt like the longest 45 seconds of my life. but it was a'ok.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to pop in and say a huge *THANK YOU!* to you all for your wonderful comments. We are doing well, but man, am I tired. lol.

I am going to post again this afternoon with my birth story and a better update, but I thought that since I am on the comp for the first time since the day of labor, I wanted to sign in and say Hi!

Vesper- I've been thinking about you. I hope that labor day is getting closer for you! *Lots of dust from here in Tx*

Congrats HH on Team Blue! So excited for you!

MP- I am so sorry to hear about your labor experience. That sounds asbsolutely traumatic. Good thing you have a wonderful DH that is there to take care of you and your adorable newbie. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Here's this week's BPF contribution...I swear my bump all but disappears one day to the next. Wow, that's a big picture....

HH almost 19 weeks.JPG

Here is my first BPF contribution...almost 14 week belly looking semi ripply after my big lunch.

allieluv83bpf.jpg

Sorry don''t know why that is sideways
7.gif
looking even ripplier than before!

Cute pics Hudson and Allie!

Hudson, I think my pre-pregnancy stomach looked like yours now, lol.

HH, that seriously is the amazing disappearing belly! You look great! Are those regular pants? I'm jealous.
2.gif

Allie, looking good! I giggled because it looks like your badge is clipped to your cleavage.
9.gif
I know - I'm immature. I can't help it!

ETA - good to hear everything is going well, Meresal. Can't wait to hear more!

LOL NO! They''re not regular pants (I wish). They''re my favorite ON jeans paired with one of my more snug bella bands. I love these jeans. At this point I think I just look better in maternity clothes. I think trying to make my regular clothes fit just accentuates the problem. I actually had a coworker tell me today that I was showing and getting to the point that I couldn''t hide it.

Here's one where my position is a little different-more twisting-and you can see el bumpo better. God my pictures are so out of focus. Darn shaky arm!

hh better belly pic 2.JPG

Ah, now I can see. Still look hot!

My cleavage is out of control. I am wearing a bra and a tank top under the dress. I don''t know how to keep those girls under control. Seriously HH, I look 9 months along compared to your tiny little frame!

Hahahaha thanks Allie. I''m just hoping this is the bloat disappearing for real this time. Remember, this was me last week and the week before. Oh, and when I went to the doc on Saturday (sinus infection) they weighed me and I''ve officially gained 20 lbs since getting pregnant. FML.

HH comparison.JPG

I am hoping the bloat and the double stomach (where my upper stomach makes a bump and then my lower stomach makes another bump) starts to form into one uniform bump sometime soon. I was carrying a bunch of weight around my midsection to begin with, so my belly button is so deep
7.gif
so way that baby will ever pop!

Looking good ladies, looking GOOD! You''ve inspired me to post my 14 week shot. Not much change from last week - I can''t wait until I "pop!"

BB and HH, you look great! I like the twisty shot, HH- so easy to see little Aidan in there!

HH - isn''t it weird how your last picture looks like you have no belly at all!? Weird how things change week to week or even day by day!

Quick MIL vent - so she emailed last night asking for advice because she was considering buying a bassinet for their house. They''re setting up a nursery which is super nice of them. I responded to her today saying that a bassinet is for little babies and, of everyone I know, their babies were out of them by 6 weeks or so and that it would probably get little or no use. Newsflash - I don''t plan on spending a lot of time at your house when LO is 6 weeks and under. I went into all of this detail on play yards and how far they''ve come - yadda yadda yadda. I just got a response that says "Would you believe I got this email just when I got back from buying the bassinet?" Ugh - why did she even ask????????? I''m glad she''s excited and I think it''s really sweet that they''re doing a nursery but seriously - don''t ask for my opinion if you don''t want it!

There, I feel better...I think.

Oh, and HH, I''m in the 20 pound club too (23 at 25 weeks to be exact). Stinky!

Your bellies are SOOO Little and Cute Ladies!! I wish I was that little again

Everyone looks so cute! I am a whale. It''s official. I am 28 weeks now. My weight is still under pre-preggo but I have got such a belly! I was going to try to use the bella band over some regular capris for a few weeks this summer. I can''t even get the thing to stay over my belly at this point. It just rolls right back up! I''m going to have to buy a couple pairs of capris to get through the next few weeks. I just hate spending the money to wear something for less than 3 months. The cheapest I can find is at Motherhood Maternity for $20. Anyone found any better deals??
