Calling all the Pregnant PS''ers

so it feels like bebe is pushed up against the left side of my ribcage- ouch! either that or I twisted something at bootcamp yesterday.

our infant CPR/safety class was very informative and fun (yep, never thought i''d describe it as "fun:). the instructor, aka "mr. safety" was this ornery older man with a dry sense of wit and humor. now, i understand that we''re there to learn about a serious topic, but when you''re sitting there for a couple hours after a long workday, you do need a bit of help to stay on track! the instructor did a great job teaching the content, and the 3 hours just flew by.

our final birthing class is tonite, which i''m somewhat sad about. that instructor has also been great- such a wealth of knowledge!

SS--YAY! great news
36.gif

Swimmer--you look terrific. Small for 39 weeks!

Charger--soudns like you are almost set to go. I need to take a CPR class!!!

Vesper--sorry to hear the epi was so icky, but yay for pushing out that big babe. You are the second person ive heard of this past month that easily pushed out a 10 lber. A friend delivered her second daughter in one big push at home (middie almost didn''t make it & nothing was set up it was so quick) and the baby was 10 lbs
6.gif
. Goes to show that big does not equal difficult in all circumstances!!

.....
Had a scare yesterday and thought i was going into labor. It was gorgeous out and i took my son to the beach and while walking home i felt a ''pop'' sensation followed by terrible pain in my side that stopped me in my tracks. It was the exact same pain i felt the night i took a walk and my water broke with my son (and the same walking route too!). I didn''t think it was an ab muscle b/c i am still doing pretty strenuous exercise regularily at the gym and here i was just out walking, so i was freaking out a bit since DH is away and i am not able to contact him. I got home and got my son in the door but couldn''t get up the stairs to find the cordless phone to call my dad (whom i knew was home and lives just up the street). I was also going to call my middie b/c i was sure my water was about the let loose (dramatic much?! haha). Long story shortened, i sat down for a while and kept my son entertained with a popsicle and the pain subsided, water intact. Got the phone an my dad picked up my son and i laid around for about 1 hour and felt much better, baby was moving fine and i could walk upstairs so i decided not to call my MW. I must have torn a ligament/ab or something. weird. I am still sore today, but def. still pregnant

Thanks all!

charger~ lol about Mr Safety. When I''ve taken CPR courses I ALWAYS have a very serious instructor. They never find anything remotely amusing. Once I was practicing on a "full grown man" doll and was making some moves on him. The rest of the class found this highly entertaining but I think I received a death stare from the instructor.

jas~ I hope you''re feeling better today. Glad you were able to enjoy part of a beach walk before the craziness!

I had my regular ob appt today. He couldn''t believe that the hb is fine now. He listened for a long time trying to "catch it" but it stayed perfect. Forgot to mention yesterday, baby is measuring 3lb 12oz, 90th percentile. She''s not slowing down at all!

Hope you''re all feeling well today!

That''s great news SS!!!!

Wonderful news SS - you must be so relieved!!!
36.gif

Swimmer I meant to tell you that you are carrying just like I did! Really long and the baby all tucked inside rather than popping out.

Hey guys, it''s still crazy over here, but I just skimmed the last page or so, and I just wanted to say:

Shiny, I''m SO GLAD to hear about your LO''s heartbeat! That is fantastic news!!!

Jas, I''m glad that everything is OK - you must have been so scared!

Sorry I haven''t been able to keep up with everyone - hope that you are all doing well!

Swimmer, you''re up next!

Belly is back, must take a pic this week for BPF! Oh, and I''ve felt Aidan a few times this week. Just little pokes a few times, so subtle I question whether I really felt it or not and I can''t seem to get him to do it again! Damn anterior placenta! He''s officially half-baked this week. Maybe I should celebrate with a pint of HB. That would get him dancing.

Ready for a good one ladies?? My MIL has a baby registry! If I knew how to insert those rolling on the floor laughing emoticons, I would!

DH went onto Amazon to see if MIL still had a wishlist so he could choose something for Mother''s Day. It hasn''t been maintained in the last year or so but now there is basically a full out baby registry - complete with bedding, mobile, child-rearing books, a book on teaching babies sign-language etc.

I''m hoping that she''s just using it to track things she''s come across that she finds interesting or wants to buy down the road so that she doesn''t forget. But, seriously? You gotta admit that it''s still funny (in a nutty sort of way)!
37.gif

OMG that is really funny. Do you think it''s stuff for her (as in grammy gear) or is it stuff she wants to get for you? Or did she take it upon herself to start your registry for you??? It totally sounds like something my mother would do, not so much my MIL, I don''t think she even knows what Amazon.com is. I''ve heard of some, more over the top, grandmothers who ask their friends to throw THEM a shower when their first grandchild is born. They get a big side-eye from me on that one...

HH, I honestly have no clue what her intentions are. There seems to be a mix of stuff that could be for *us* (like a book called MackDaddy
9.gif
) and the rest has to be for her house because she knows we already have bedding etc. and our own registry. I was cracking up when DH told me that he couldn''t find her wishlist just a list of baby stuff. He didn''t see how it was funny.
20.gif
I definitely don''t think MIL would ask for a shower but she may have gone off the deep-end in her excitement.

Hurry up and the snap that picture before the belly shrinks - although, it''s probably here to stay now.

SS, what fantastic news!!!!

Jas, what a scare! I''m glad it turned out to be a false alarm.

Swimmer, you look great! And what a cute dress! God, I wish my torso was longer. I feel like I''ll be falling over before this pregnancy is over.

Charger, your post made me think of Fire Marshal Bill from In Living Color.
9.gif
DH and I need to get our act together and sign up for baby safety. Worst case scenario, our 15 year old DD is CPR certified.
25.gif

Shiny, that is great news about your LOs heartbeat! Yay!

HH, I too have the anterior placenta. I felt some good flutters a week ago but nothing recently
7.gif
just more digestive system discomfort. LO, are you okay? i guess the worrying begins!

swimmer, that's a cute outfit! where did you get that dress/top? and you look great - can't believe you are 39 weeks! Thanks for the swimming rec- i've been a couple of times now and it does seem good. still haven't found appropriate maternity lapswimmingwear. normal workout suits in a bigger size were boob-revealing (a usual problem of mine made worse by the belly). a larger long-torso suit might have worked for current belly size but I needed a bigger size than they had and I was a little worried about what happens when my belly gets bigger. And they were out of maternity lapsuits in my size, since they had like 2 sizes of those. So I ordered one online and thought my problems were solved and then it was backordered... sigh. for now I am squeezing into a boarding tank and these swim shorts but my new boobs are often a little too exposed once I swim in it a bit! but i think with summer coming up this exercise method will be a good option when I can get to the pool during the appropriate hours...

puppmom that is too funny about your MIL! baby stuff on her amazon wishlist! wow.

Another one here with an anterior placenta. At almost 27 weeks I feel tons of movement but almost always below my belly button and mostly towards the left. I''m wondering if that has to do with the position of the placenta.

add me to the anterior placenta club!

Just went back to check my preggo appointment/notebook- it's the planner thingie (compliments of Similac) that came in my OB's goody bag. Anyway, I noted in there the first time that I without a doubt felt bebe, and it was during my 23rd week. Before then i was always questioning: "was that it???" since then, the movement has always been on my left side or just below my belly button.

Then just this week (33) i noted that i felt bebe on my right side for the first time. Don't know if (s)he is shifting around or what. crazy!

our final birthing class was last night, and just wanted to share some info and a link that the instructor provided on choosing a pediatrician. It was very timely as we had recently made a "prenatal appt" with a ped that my OB recommended and are scheduled to see him at at the end of the month.
QUESTIONS TO ASK:
- Would you always see your pediatrician or might you see others in the practice regularly?
- How are middle-of-the-night calls handled? Do you talk to a doctor or nurse?
- If you plan to breastfeed: Under what circumstances might formula supplementation be necessary in the hospital? If you are having problems with breastfeeding, how would the doctor help you and who would he/she refer you to? (Simply asking if they support breastfeeding might not give you much info).
- Are sick and well patients separated in any manner (in the waiting room, exam rooms, etc.)

I have an anterior placenta with this pregnancy. With JT, it was posterior. With both I first felt movement right at 13 weeks. With JT the extent of kicks at 39 weeks was approx what I felt at around 20 weeks with this pregnancy. DH and I literally watch my belly move. I can visually and physically identify body parts. A couple days ago I had a knee protruding. I knew it was a knee because I could also feel where her butt was. DH grabbed it (yeah, that was fun!) and he could feel that it was a knee before I told him. My entire belly shifts left to right and until she got too big you could see her spinning.

We got JT''s room finished (blue with white trim, built in shelves for toys, navy bedding and curtains and trains). He loves it. We don''t have much more to do in the baby''s room before we start bring up the furniture. Our crib is a very dark wood (the dresser/changer is actually a bit lighter). I always prefer white cribs and furniture for girls. The crib does have some chew marks and other JT abuse, I''m wondering if I should paint both pieces. Advice??

Congratulations Vesper! I know I''m totally late but your boys are adorable!!

Wow this thread moves fast -- congratulations on the new arrivals! I''m mostly a lurker but I love reading others'' birth stories.

I posted a couple weeks ago b/c my ultrasound showed the baby measuring quite large. Well, I''m one day from due date, no apparent signs of labor, and the latest ultrasound confirms: 9lbs, 7oz, 93%ile. Yikes! I''m alternating between trying to trust my body (i.e. it wouldn''t grow a bigger baby than I could handle) verses being totally freaked out by the possibility of delivering such a large babe. I will discuss the options with my doc again tomorrow. She said before that the literature doesn''t support inducing based only on size (i.e. that the birth outcomes aren''t better), though if I really want to induce we can. I''m really not sure what the best thing to do is...hopefully she will have some thoughts tomorrow. In the meantime, I''m going to try everything Google suggests for getting labor started...

Finally, and if this has already been discussed extensively, I apologize in advance, but any thoughts on the coached pushing v. spontaneous pushing debate, especially with an epidural? I just read about this and it was news to me -- I definitely would prefer to wait until I had the urge to push (and this article makes it sound better that way but not necessarily what most hospitals routinely do) but then I know an epidural can make it so you don''t feel things on your own, so maybe then you have to rely on the nurses'' coaching? http://www.babycenter.com/0_how-to-push-should-your-body-be-the-guide_1745336.bc?showAll=true

sparkles~ You''ll be fine. If worse comes to worst, they''ll do a c-section. You''ll still have a perfect baby in the end. I do think most women''s bodies are capable of birthing and I also think that most will only grow a baby as big as they can push out. I am an exception to that rule, but I do believe it. lol

From my experience, bigger babies are better sleepers. JT came out eating every 4 hrs and slept great!

Good luck!!

Lovinsparkles: Keep in mind that the weight estimates are often WAY off (up to a pound or more). There have been many moms on here that got inaccurate weight estimates. Also keep in mind that big baby does not necessarily = difficult pushing stage. I've had friends with 6 lbers push for 2 hours, and then ppl like myself who pushed out 8.8 lbs in just a few contractions. It's more to do with the position of the baby, mom's body, epi or no-epi etc. So try not to stress too much about that. I am a big believer in letting nature take it's course, so i would wait for things to start naturally if your health is good & esp if your Dr. suggports it. Yes, statistically the outcomes are better.
In terms of pushing, my middie just gave me some stuff to read and there was a little chapter about pushing 'strategies'. I did not have an epi for my last birth but i still remember my OB coaching me to push sometimes when i had no urge. Your contractions slow right down which is really cool. Natural knows to give you a break so you have to make the most of the urges, but also work with them too. I remember actually *wanting* the next contraction just so i could get back to work. I had a quick delivery but the book said that sometimes forced pushing can do pelvic floor muscle damage, cause extra tearing and put stress on the baby if it is prolonged, forced pushing. I found that interesting. I had major problems with my sacrum and pelvic floor muscles following the birth and while i doubt it was all b/c of the pushing , that could have contributed to it. So just food for thought. My plan this birth is to push with urges only. What does your doc say about it?
Hope you go into labor soon!!!

Vesper - congrats! That is one huge baby. I can''t believe they didn''t check the epidural cathether sooner to see how far in it still was, and that they didn''t just redo the epidural when all the topups obviously weren''t relieving your pain. Silly people!

Swimmer - you''re looking like you''re in such good shape - the belly is tiny for 39 weeks, but I bet you have a normal-sized child in there. Must just have great ab tone. Good luck!

SS - So glad to hear the heartbeat is better.

Lovin: coming out of Newborn-12mos thread to tell you a few things about me/our baby:

1.) at 37 weeks our daughter was measured (on u/s) at being 8lbs6oz. That was her exact weight at birth, born at 40w2d... so they are really just guesstimates.

2.) I was induced because I''m tiny (my last belly pic was waaaaaaay back in November in this thread), and she was "large". I''d also had no labor signs, and the doc was a little worried about my ability to have the natural vag birth I wanted if I just waited for her to come out on her own (i.e. she might get even bigger while waiting).

3.) The inducing was fine, but the contractions were horrible, and I was given an epi. Even with the epi, I felt EVERY urge to push. Every single one. I pushed and pushed for hours, but apparently I have a small pelvis and our daughter just didn''t make it out on her own, and we needed to do an emergency c.

Mentioning this not to scare you, I want you to know that a.) guesses about size aren''t always right b.) epis don''t always mean not knowing when to push- I felt it, OH boy, did I feel it c.) inducing isn''t all that bad if you have to go that route- it was my body''s size that didn''t enable me to have the v. birth, not the drugs and epi.

Good luck!!

Hello preggos!
35.gif
I lurk here from time to time, and although I'm not ready to dive in here right yet, and wanted to ask a quick question...

Have you ever heard/had a Doodles sleigh crib? What do you know about them? Thanks! I might post this in newborn too.

ETA: Nevermind...I just realized it's a store here in Houston, not a brand name. Sorry!

Lovinsparkles, I''ll second what everyone else has already said. Those measurements can be way off. My brother and SIL were told their son would be big. he was a week late and weighed less than 8 pounds. I have another friend who was told her baby was measuring 3 weeks behind. She was born at 37.7 weeks and weighed just shy of 6 lbs so you never know. Good luck!

Jas - wow, sorry you had to go through that, but I''m glad everything turned out A-OK and your LO is staying put for a few more weeks!

I had my 16 week appt. yesterday and everything looks great, so again I''m relieved!

It was a quick appt. just a quick look at the babes and a listen to their heartbeats. We went over my NT scan results in more detail (which were excellent) and all my genetic testing - I also had more blood drawn for the 2nd part of the NT scan (I didn''t know there was more to it after the 12 week scan). Doc answered a few questions and DH and I were off on our merry way.

Question for you - what are you using to wash your face and moisterize after washing it? I''m so confused about all the products you can and can''t use. Right now, I''m using Dove, Cetaphil to cleanse and Oil of Olay to moisterize.

Thanks, ladies, for the encouragement and the emphasis on the margin of error. I think that is a good point. Because my labor hasn''t progressed at all, we''re still probably looking at another week of growth before labor, so that is going to add to the estimate also. My Dr. says that each day that passes, the likelihood of a successful vaginal delivery decreases. The fact that the baby hasn''t moved into position makes my Dr. further concerned about the size/fit. In addition to the weight estimate (93%), my doctor also explained some head measurement estimate that the ultrasound showed, at the 97%ile -- to me, that is even more troubling in terms of the size/pelvis fit. I think she said that that meant the head would be over 10cm (and 10cm is full dilation), so...tight fit. Amberwaves, I think yours is the scenario that I most fear and that I think is fairly likely for me based on the head size- thanks for sharing.

It''s tough call, but we have decided to give it one more week (till 41w) for labor to start on its own (letting "nature" take its course and doing a trial run with labor), and if it hasn''t, we''re scheduling a c/s for end of next week (accepting that it that point, the likelihood of successful vaginal delivery is low enough that we will just accept medical intervention and move forward). It''s stressful to think about, but just trying to focus on the fact that, one way or another, I should have my baby in arms by next week!

Lovin: I can honestly say the best thing I feel I did about the birth was get educated as much as possible on the different ways my birth could turn out, make sure there were things I wanted, but not get too hung up on having to have it all exactly a certain way, KWIM? I am convinced the thing that made me not resent my c-sec after 24 hours in pit. labor was that I didn''t get my heart set on a certain delivery. I was okay with whatever would happen, as long as she was okay. So while I could have been totally depressed about needing the c-sec because my body just couldn''t deliver, I had never really been super set on any one delivery. Not that I want you to let your expectations down, I just am glad I was never totally completely sold on a certain path I HAD to take.

Again, I wish you a ton of luck!!

Just got back from the doctor''s office and I''m kinda bummed. She didn''t scold me or anything but told me I need to watch my weight. I''ve gained 27 pounds! She wants to me to still stay at 35 or under total. I asked if it''s really possible for me to gain only another 8 knowing the baby will gain another 4 or 5 over the next 13 weeks and she said, "Sure - you just have to cut out the sweets and exercise."
8.gif
I don''t wanna cut out sweets! I like them!

lovinsparkles~ The head circumference, IMO, is a better indicator of fit. JT never got completely into position because his giant cranium couldn't fit into my pelvis. That's not to say that other women haven't delivered giant headed babies, but it didn't work out for me. As I recall, JT's head circumference was very close to 40 cm. (15+") I remember my mom got out a tape measure and gasped when she really saw how big it was.

I've had tons of contractions today. I told my dr at my last appt that I was getting real contractions and he just told me to "take it easy." If I take it any easier, I should be stuffed!

Baby Lily had the hiccups last night for the first time. Since I see so much movement, I could see every hiccup and feel it.

I've officially begun countdown to c-section: 69 days!

eta~ pupp~ I quit gaining at around 4-5 weeks prior to due date and lost 3 lbs in the last couple weeks. This happens a lot. You'll be fine. And, who really cares if you gain 38 lbs instead of 35? The most important thing is that you're giving good nutrition to Baby!

So I cracked my What to Expect book last night because DH wanted to know when Aidan would be able to hear and I read that the amniotic fluid takes on the flavor of what you eat and as the baby ingests it s/he can taste it as well. They recommend upping the variety of fruits and veggies now to expose the LO to as many healthy flavors as possible. Who knew? Anyway, this has motivated me to eat a little better. While I''m sure he LOVES Captain Crunch, I''d rather he learn to like broccoli instead. Hopefully this will also slow down my weight gain a bit as well. Pupp, you''re not alone. I was up 17 lbs at my 19.5 week appointment last week. I''m sure I''ll be up to 23-25 lbs by the time I reach where you are.

Oh, and it''s BPF!!! Once again I''m the incredible shrinking pregnant woman. Aidan is shy and is hiding somewhere in there. I swear, I was ENORMOUS yesterday! I even felt him a few times

SS, I love the name Lily!
