I can't remember the last time I looked through a thread and actually took notice of everyone's names written out - I usually just skim avatars and assume new ones are newbies unless something odd makes me check the screenname underneath

The gecko is here to stay. For many reasons. The most important being that the actual gecko pin I used was my father's. It has since been broken, so having the gecko that was my father's hanging out with the diamond my husband gave me (he calls me gecko, which is where the screen name comes from) is pretty special.

I have changed it in the past and not recognized myself in threads. I will bust out the Santa hat gecko that was graciously done for me for Christmas though!

Speaking from the other side, I have a hard time keeping one av! I have a compulsive need to change it up But I have to say - Haven, when you changed yours briefly the other day, I didn't recognize you at all! That was when I realized how much I rely on some posters' avs (yours, TGal's, etc.) to recognize who the poster is.

I want another Holiday Av thread! I'll switch it back to my cats so they can be all Christmas-fied

Just changed my avatar back to my original (+ some Christmas flair). I like when posters keep the same avs, but I always want to change mine up as I acquire new bling! I think I'll keep this one for a while--it's really easy for me to recognize, and as Haven said, no risk of replying to myself.

Well I have had the same avatar for my whole time here save maybe 6 very brief changes to various diamonds pictures. I changed it back to the dogs about a year ago I think and have not changed it since for more than a day, for the recognizibility factor because people like TGal who are clearly too senile to read names kept complaining

This time I changed it because I am paranoid. Recently my mom has been showing some sort of interest in the forum and since I told her I won the gift she actually named the site (sort of, I think she might have said "Priceline" ). Anyways, she would recognize my dogs and I just thought better safe than sorry. I have no idea why the thought of her checking this joint out and "recognizing" me freaks me out, but it does.

I will probably change back again one day, but not sure. I really like the way my new avi looks!

Well my current AV was complements of Neatfreak. And I'd freaking me out... it's so PINK.

Except for my Little Fire Dragon (which is actually my favorite AV) I always have pics of my cats up. As I have 4... soon to be 5 of them (hence Neatfreak's social commentary) mine changes. But it's almost always one of my cats.

I really do love the dragon though, and was thinking of bringing him back with a santa hat for Christmas since I'm in a bah-humbug mood this year. But since we're getting Sherlock I suspect my next AV will be of Sherlock in a Santa Cat.

OR... I was evil in the pet store the other day and bought a JINGLE COLLAR for the cats. Hally got it off in .2 seconds, Duncan complained until we took it off of him, and Frodo wouldn't let us get anywhere near him. All their reactions perfectly consistent with their personality. John put it on Lucy and she just sat there, happy to be the center of attention, purring. So... we might have to stick it on Sherlock and see if we can get a decent pic of thim in it.

I think this is the first avatar I uploaded. Its a painting by Amy Alexander on Etsy. I was too late and got a print, not the original. Its very tongue in cheek to non diamond friends of mine, and matches two of my facebook accounts.

I like changing mine every once in a while. I don't remember what my first few were, but then for the most part it was my wedding set, followed by custom made pieces and now the Gene cut Tanzi I bought last Christmas. I don't see any harm in changing them and keeping them fresh and updated. As soon as my new pendant is done, that will be my avatar for a while .

I put my wedding band up because it doesn't cause any unwarranted drama. And I've had silly a**ed drama about my avatars.

I chose a flag flying in a beautiful blue sky for July 4; it offended.

I chose a Madonna and Child (a famous painting, btw) for Christmas; it offended.

I've been told I choose avatars deliberately to p*ss people off. Well, up until then, it really hadn't crossed my mind. But you know. . . . it's time for me to search out a new Christmas avatar.

I'm guessing I won't choose a Santa.

Wow, I'd have loved both of those avatars. On another forum I go to I used nothing but American flags for avatars. Someone asked me once why I do that and my answer was that I'm in the Army and if I'm going to risk my life to defend something I have every right to post pictures of it.

On here I use a bling pic, usually either my ring or my pendant, since they're custom designs. I like having something no one else has.

I've changed mine a few times but I think the pictures have always been my kitty Olivia, and always pretty close up of her face, so not too different. Someone put a Santa hat on her for me (I think TGal, actually), so I might change it to that for Christmas. I have a new computer now (MacBook Air and it is FANTASTIC) but I think the hubs transferred everything.

I'm too lazy to change avatars and I hate it when I can't recognize other people, so I'll keep it. I actually don't change profile pics very often on Facebook, either. I guess it helps that I don't take pictures of myself constantly making sexy MySpace/Facebook faces like all the high school kids!

I just really love my ring, and since it's so delicate and tiny in real life, I get to enjoy looking at it's close-up in my av. The secondary reason is that I identify people by their avatar when I am checking threads for new posts.

I remember having my ring and "something blue" up, which was a flower on my toenail and it freaked Mara out so much I changed it to just my rings and I've had this one for some time, don't know how long. Oh and I think I had some purple flowers forever ago. I don't think about it often. I'm not loving my current one, but don't know what else to put up, so I leave it. I never pay attention to avatars. At work I minimize the screen in a way so that I only see text. I don't even know who is posting most of the time.

As for me, I've always had different avatars. I know a few psers get annoyed with moms showing their children (so called mommy trap) but my home base is FHH so it's appropriate there.

I don't even remember what I used to have. I think my brother's dog was my avi for a while.
