From what I''ve read and what I''ve found playing with my friend''s cameras, the VR makes a huge difference. Not so much with the close up shots, but when you are using the larger lens in the 125-200mm range it makes a world of difference.

TG can you find out how many ''clicks'' or whatever it is called? Are you happy with yours? Have you posted pics TG and Tacori???

So many questions...

Right now a Nikon with 2 lens VR is $598 or with regular lens $499.

I''m happy with it so far, but I haven''t used it much other than in auto mode. I''m bringing a bunch of stuff to Oz to play with since I will be on vacation!!!

You can go to opanda and download freeware.

http://www.opanda.com/en/iexif/index.html

Take a pic and open it in the exif viewer. It will tell you how many shutter clicks have been taken with the camera.

IWPO, if the 2 lens VR+D40 is 598, it might pay to hold off and see if you can get a deal on the D60 like Tacori did. As much as I like my D40, for 42 dollar difference, I''d take the D60 with the 2 VR lenses. Keep looking at Amazon, B&H Adorama, etc for deals.

I found a deal yesterday on SlickDeals, but I can''t get to the site here at work. You can go to www.slickdeals.net and search for D60 in the "Hot Deals" forum or I''ll try to pull it up when I go home for lunch.

*runs off to look at D60s*

IWPO, I got mine in the mail a few days ago but since the flu has taken down each member of my family (including myself) I haven''t had a chance to do anything but change the battery. I promise to let you know once I have a chance to play around with it. The guy at Wolf said D60 has some sort of image stabilizer than the D40 don''t have. Not sure if he was just pulling my chain though.

Not sure about that either Tacori. From what I researched on both of them, the stabilization is in the lens on these models (hence why we are all recommending VR lenses). What it does have is a dust resistant function which helps since you will be changing lenses. That and more megapixels seem to be the 2 new features that I remember, but I think there are a few more minor ones.

TGal, the guy seemed like an idiot anyways so don't listen to anything I say! Haha.

ETA: by the way do I have to send anything in for the warranty? How do I know if it is a US one again?

There should be a Nikon USA warranty slip in there.

Right click on your photo and a menu with an option View Exif/GPS/IPTC with IExif will pop up select this option.

"Next"-

You will see the screen with the panda with the selection menu bar w/ Summary,Exif,GPS, & IPTC.

Select EXIF scroll down to makerNote-

Look at the picture and scroll down to the menu as seen in the picture and circled "Total Number of Shutter Actuations"

Hope this Helps...

Thanks, Josh - it absolutely does help! I''m delighted to see that my refurb unit appears slightly used as well with only 879 actuations. YAY!

You can also take a pic and upload it to flickr, and it will tell you shutter actuations.

I''m so happy more people are buying Nikon :) Tacori, let me know how you like the D60! Mine rarely leaves my hands.
