They are here...
Thanks cellentani. I''m taking a gamble and going from description as I know sleepy stones are a pain in the rump to photograph. The sleepy spinel that I purchased and absolutely adore had a terrible vendor picture as well.Date: 11/19/2009 6:37:12 PM

brandy, the ruby looks fairly opaque (are you okay with that?), but the color is very pretty.
I hope so - I can''t wait to see your pics of it!Date: 11/19/2009 8:40:33 PM

I know I''m not exactly comparing apples to apples, different vendors and different stones, but I''m going to keep my fingers crossed that his description is accurate. As long as the color is good and the stone isn''t totally opaque I''m pretty sure I''m going to be happy with it. I''ll be sure to post pics when I get it.
I thought I recognized the cutting. Beautiful stone!!Date: 11/19/2009 4:58:46 PM

Thank you LD. Yes, it''s a ruby. It''ll be my first. There was just something about the sleepy glow of it that reeled me in. It was listed as a 4.8mm, 0.52ct, heated ruby. Supposedly no other treatments, heat only.
ETA: It''s from Bob Kast.

haagen_daz - Yes, the mahenge is from multicolour. Their pictures are pretty darn good at representing accurate color in my experience with them but make sure you don't use the picture alone to judge a gem. I'd go with the description over the photo for any clarity issues or concerns. My mahenge is not opaque at all though the photo might suggest that. I haven't spoken to David Weinberg (I believe that's his name) at MC but I've heard on here that he's honest and will answer any questions that you may have about a stone.Date: 11/19/2009 11:55:15 PM

is that the vendor?
if so, i always wonder if those opaque pink photos on his website mean that the stone would look like that... opaque pink

One more. Have nothing planned for it yet. I know I like it with diamonds, that''s how far I am at.
I think I know what you mean LD. When I think of opaque I generally think of black onyx, like TL stated, impenetrable by light. Here''s a crude attempt to convey my understanding of what you''re saying; I won''t be able to sit the stone down on a paper and read words, or maybe even make out letters, through the stone but it''ll still allow light to enter it and bounce around? Am I close? I hope so, cause that''s sort of what I''m expecting.Date: 11/20/2009 12:02:41 PM

Brandy, my guess is that the Ruby will be opaque looking in real life, whereas your Spinel isn''t and is just sleepy (if that makes sense). It sounds from the Vendor''s photo that it''ll be a very pretty Ruby (especially if it shows more red at times). I think you''ve bought from the Vendor before so hopefully it''ll be a good one!
Yingh - WOW! Gorgeous!
Very pretty stone yingh. Did you ever post pictures of the tsavorite you got from Gene? I would have loved to see them.Date: 11/20/2009 12:52:38 AM

That's more the definition of translucent. like imperial jade or opal, vs a solid black stone like onyx or a pearl. I think your ruby will be translucent. Light is obviously getting in there (you can see this in the picture), but you cannot see right through it. Very very sleepy stones are also translucent. I have a rubellite from Bob that is translucent (it's very sleepy) and I love it. That color, for a natural color, is very beautiful, so much so, that I would ignore the fact that it's not transparent. It probably would have been better as a cabochon, but it's really a lovely red without any trace of brown (it has blue in it).Date: 11/20/2009 1:20:48 PM
