I made this emerald and 24kt gold ring for my sister for her 50th. It is the first ring I ever made. The gold was a 1/4 ounce bullion coin. A small incision was made off center and all the rest was done with hammers. No material was removed or added, so the ring without stone was still 7.7 grams. The emerald I bought as an oddly shaped rough from africangemstones.co.za. heavily included but really nice green color. They said it was found on a camping trip in Kenya. They were stuck in some wilderness from a storm and when the storm passed the tree they were sheltering under had fallen and they found these emeralds entwined in the roots. I cut the stone up to make three 1 carat cabs and a few tiny accent stones. Oh yeah, I also made the box from a solid block of ebony. The ring chamber is lined with leather.

My 2.2 carat Mahenge in an LOGR. It is a sleepy stone. I think I rather have done 18K YG.

I'm not thrilled with it in this setting for the stone since it's a sleepy stone, it tends to darken in there. I have a padparadscha colored spinel I might replace it in there, and put this one in 18K yg, but a more delicate setting - not a halo. This is the padparadscha colored spinel that would fit perfectly in that setting as well, and it's not a sleepy stone, but totally clean.
