Good gravy! What happened to you?
Was leaving restaurant with my purse and take home bag; my sandal caught an uneven lip in the sidewalk and down I went - in front of all the outside diners I might add.
Good gravy! What happened to you?
I dropped my diamond ring once on my bathroom tile floor.. I freaked.. I had my loop and examined immediately.. I thought I got a big crack in it... turned out when I calmed down it was prong reflection...
If that's a divot or a dent, I wonder if you hit it on a door frame or something quite solid. Hard to imagine that happened inside a ring box, but you said the spring came loose. That would have to occur with considerable energy to do this to the prong. What type of metal are the prongs?
Beautiful ring, BTW. I can see how thus would make you crazy.
Help!!! I knocked my new oval diamond engagement ring off the counter in the box onto the tile floor. It was hard enough to break the spring in the box and knock the ring out of where it was held in the box. At first, I just noticed the prongs were slightly bent. I took it to the first jeweler I saw who quickly looked at it under microscope and said no damage to diamond. Fast forward 5 days and I swear now if I turn the ring to the side I see a hairline running from the prong to the center of the diamond. It had one small pinpoint and feather in the pavilion according to the report but they do not appear to go to the prong. I am taking it back to jeweler asap but just wanted to know if the prong could possibly put enough pressure to run a crack down the diamond? Or could this be the feather that expanded? I’m obviously freaking out. I have only been engaged two weeks and I’m beating myself up for being so careless. The ring is insured with JM but I can’t stomach the thought of having a different diamond than the one my fiancé picked so carefully for me. I posted a top view picture. I can’t get the hairline to focus.
Update : I just left the jeweler who made the ring. He looked at it under the microscope before and after he cleaned it and said the diamond is fine!! He also said the prong issue is minor and the stone is secure. The store is actually closed this week (he came in to look at it for me since he could tell I was in panic mode) but he said they Could fix the prongs next week and that it is safe to wear until then

Another update: they officially opened back up after the holiday today so I went back to see what the suggestion was for the prongs. He said only one was misaligned and put it back and “buffed out” the spot on the prong pictures above. I was thrilled it was such an easy fix but when I got home it still looks off. It looks much better, but I feel like more could be done. The “ding” in the prong is much less noticeable but I can still see it with the naked eye. Looking from the top the prongs look evenly spaced and correct now but looking from the side one still looks a hair bent. Am I being too particular??? Granted I’m still thrilled the stone is okay and the ring was structurally fine and didn’t require more work however I don’t feel like it’s fixed completely. I feel bad being so nit picky since after all I AM the one who caused the damage in the first place, but I feel like more could be done to fix it. should I take it back again? Or listen to them that it’s fine? They only had it for like maybe 30 minutes.
I would honestly say it depends on how much was charged for the repair. I've had beautiful prongs completely rebuilt on a ring before. It was VERY expensive for quality work. If you need a rebuild for them to be perfect again it might be considerably more than what they may have charged for just straightening them out. It depends on what you want.
They didn’t charge me anything yet. I was fully expecting to pay and have to leave the ring for work but did not happen
