Oh, oops you said oval. But I can see the color is going to be just like the one he just finished. I hope it's as perfect in person as it is on his site! Looks promising.

Oooh, Freke, I can''t wait to see it. The round he just cut (at 1.11 ct) from the rough that looks similar to yours is STUNNING.
 
innerkitten Nope. That's going to a collector in Japan. I think the oval is going to be a bit more purplish. He sent me an update a couple hours ago and he said something about it having a bit of a color shift. He said that it would probably be about 6x8.2, so we shall see.

LS I'm sure he'll appreciate it.

Dan posted the pic, so it''s up there if you want to see. I want to see some more pics, but I like what I see so far. He hasn''t seen it in daylight yet, so he hasn''t given me a description of the color, but this is what he said:

"Under indoor light, it''s more purple than I thought it would be based on the color of the rough. It is a brilliant oval with a faceted girdle that weighs 1.35 carats, measures 5.90 x 8.20mm and is easily eye clean. I need to check the clarity better tomorrow too, but I didn''t see any flaws at all when I was cutting it."

What kind of sucks is that FF wants to see it before he pulls any triggers, and he''s out of town without computer access until late this week, so we all might be on pins and needles for a while...

May I ask a question out of interest, how does it work with cutters if you don''t like what the end product? Is there a financial obligation at all?

I keep going back to see the stone - I''m so jealous, its soo pretty !
 
I just want to say I''ve been lurking here for awhile. And that is a gorgeous stone Freke! Congrats!!

But dang you and all the others here to the nethermost heck...because now I want a spinel! Grrrrr!
 
Oh, I check Dan''s page every morning and just saw that oval!

I ran right over here to see if you''d seen it, Freke! It''s lovely, a nice skinnier oval! C''mon Dan, what time does the sun come up there? (warning, there is no sun in new england today. May the NW have better luck!)

I love the shape and ihe faceting. It looks wonderful. Your right though it isn''t as blue as the one yesterday and has a bit more purple and gray. Is there any way you could get an outdoor photo? You could also get it to lok at and return it if you weren''t 100% satisfied. If you love it though you should totally get it, and I know it would make a great ring.If not another beautiful stone will turn up for sure.

Holy cow! I had no idea how many people were checking my saga! It's a good thing I got up early.

I talked to FF last night about it, and he said that it sounds really pretty, so I sent him a pic I took with my phone of the pic he sent me. So he thought it was ok, but still wants to see it on a computer screen. I still want to see another pic of it elsewhere, besides his normal pics. But between what Dan came up with, and what I'm expecting Barry to come up with, I'm in a bit of a...pickle. So I talked to FF about this, and he mentioned that perhaps I could buy one, and he could buy the other. My suggestion is that we could buy both (this would mean I would probably have to push back some setting plans) and that I could not look at either when we get them, he could look at them and decide between the two, and I could have his *reject*, so it would still be somewhat of a surprise as to what I get. He's iffy on that idea, so we shall see. Right now though, it's looking like I could potentially end up with both...

I just got an email from Dan. He said that he woke up to storminess too, so pics will have to wait until the sun comes out. I really think that he's disappointed at this point with it a little bit...

"From what I'm seeing, it appears this stone will shift from a ceylon blue color to a purple color, depending on the light source. It looks really good under daylight fluorescent bulbs. It does appear that this stone is flawless. Really, I probably shouldn't even comment on this one until I can see it in actual blue sky daylight. I suspect my opinion of it will improve at that point...which according to the weather forecast, "might" happen today."

Now onto questions...

AJ One of the reasons I want more pics is because with his stock photos the stone appears to be much lighter than it is in real life. From what I know about Dan's business, if I don't want it, someone else will. He always has multiple bites on every single rough he posts to cut, so I'm sure that if I don't take it, someone else will. As far as other cutters, I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they are the same.

Me tooinnerkitten! I think it's a beautiful stone, but I do want to see it in a less controlled setting. So I'll bug him more about that later. It does look pretty close to some of the samples, doesn't it?

LTP- Not quite yet. He hasn't given me a price, and I don't know that he will until he sees exactly what he's got. But so far...it's looking like it very well could be. Got to just see it a bit more and find out the price, and get FF's thoughts on it. So...we'll see...

Ditto this. I recently had Dan send me a round blue sapphire which turned out to be much darker than his picture. So, I''ve learned about his photos, too. I returned the sapphire to Dan, which was fine with him because it was already sold. The buyer turned out to be another PSer who loved it.

With this pretty spinel, I''m sure he could sell several of them!

I can''t wait to see photos of it in natural daylight. It''d be stunning even if a bit darker, but I can totally understand not wanting to go *too* dark.

Will Barry have some icy blue rough in soon?
 
Fly Girl I''m glad I''m not the only one. His photos are beautiful, but a tiny bit deceiving with the depth of color. I bet he''s already had multiple other bites on it. With all of the stones I''ve inquired on, he''s already had someone that bit before I did. Which is why the only stone I''ve bought from him that''s been on the *currently cutting* part was the gray he did just for me. But I''m sure it would have been snapped up too.
