Yay!!! That''s great news. Do you think that 7.7mm will be too big for your finger?

I can''t wait to see more photos.

Woo hoo! Too many options!

I agree, the color change is lovely, but I''d like to see more pictures/a movie to get a better idea.

d''oh, don''t know why pic didn''t work sorry..

FYI. You gotta remove the % in the picture name.

Pretty stone, BTW, if it isn''t too dark for Freke.

gecko I'm digging the supernova oval (I own one already WOW...) but something about the round really speaks to me. And I think that the oval is a bit too dark for me.

Hey Mischka! I love Barry's cuts. It was my first loose colored stone and I got spoiled really quickly...They are stunning! Between him and Dan...I'm a lucky lady.

EBree Well...I keep debating it. I've figured out that that's about the same size as a 1.75ct diamond, and I could probably do it. My finger is normally a 6 (unless I lose some weight in which case it could be a 5) or a 6.25 when swollen.

Mercoledi I sent him another email asking him if he had any other photos, and for a couple more details...

AJ I actually have seen that-I think someone posted it. It's really a gorgeous stone. Or maybe I found it myself? I don't know... Blah!

In other news I woke up to a dream that FF and I were in Vegas, and getting ready to get married. And then FF woke me up. Lol.

LOL @ the dream. Those are always fun. The husband (fiance at the time) started talking in his sleep right before our wedding. I think "I need to flip the bunny" was my favorite...

And if the round is talking to you - then speak back! LOL!

I have a round e-ring (granted, it''s a diamond, not a luscious color) and I think the shape is timeless.

gecko! Flip the bunny?! WTH? BF talks a lot in his sleep. He warned me about "losing my powers" once. I think he''d been watching too much Heroes.

I also think the round is timeless. That''s why I like it and the oval-I think ovals have kind of a antique feel to them, but also they are like classic with a twist. Which I dig.

Whatever I get, I''ll be happy.

Thanks AJ! There are some great stones on there...

I heard back from Barry--multiple times. He is so nice! He told me that he thinks that both stones are too dark and that the round is too big for what I want. That he''d like to get me a smaller brighter stone, and that he''s getting more rough that he thinks would be better for me and my ering. So I''m pumped. And I can certainly wait for that...

...now to see what everyone else comes up with.

Check gemfix .com the oher gems section, they have some lavander spinel http://www.gemfix.com/other_gems.html

There are some really pretty stones over there, thanks InnerKitten. I really think I want to stick with blue though.

And I''m just going to wait to see what everyone that I''ve talked to comes up with...And I''m certain that someone will come up with "IT"...

I hope.

Hey Freke, I know your not actively looking anymore - but in my browsing I do come across ones I think will suit you..

Cut not the best, but promising colour?

Freke - yup. I need to flip the bunny. Also the squirrel flys upstream! I have no idea what goes on in that man''s head, LOL!

Hey AJ--where did you find that one?

Lol gecko. Funny stuff! I get weird stuff from FF all the time too.

You really wanna know? Ebay - page here.
Have return period, and pretty reasonable price - could be worth inspection, and maybe big enough for a re cut if necessary..? But the cut looks decent for a native one, imho.

I bought several stones from Gemburi and they all had windows. This one could be different, but all of their pics look fabulous, and stones - not so much.

Freke- sounds like the whole gem world (our gem world hehe) is searching for your stone. Something perfect is bound to pop up soon. And I am so excited for you that you are in touch with Barry now. I know how much you adore his work (and I do too!)

AJ That is a really pretty color. Unfortunately Peter told me that a decent recut would need more depth-like 5mm. That''s been the problem with all of the stones I''ve found so far being potential recuts. Blah! BTW--who is Gary?

LTP Thanks for the warning. I think I''m really just going to wait it all out and see what comes from Dan, Peter, Barry, CWMNBN, and if NONE of those pan out, Jeff is getting harassed. Lol. I have high hopes fromm them all.

icekid I think it is! I think that everyone has their eyes peeled, and I''m so grateful for everyone who has posted stones, suggestions, emails, websites, etc etc etc.

I''m so happy I finally got in touch with Barry. He wrote me a really sweet email the other day about how those stones were too dark, that the round would be too big and look clunky on an engagement ring, and that he would like one of his stones to be made into my engagement ring. It was so genuine, and he''s such a nice guy. I do adore his work, and I plan on keeping him in business for a good long time (and not just with this stone!--Although it may just take a good long time!)

Freke - Barry it should be! Your favorite cutter for your most important piece of jewelry. I have a feeling he is going to come through for you.

Hi Freke!

So I''ve lost track of your search for the *desperate spinel*.....what colour did you decide on? Or, are you waiting to see what kind of rough the cutters find for you?

How about an updated recap for those of us who haven''t kept up with your hunt?

And, are you still enjoying the process or are you feeling frustrated? I hope it''s the former and not the latter!

LS

Fly Girl I agree. I think that''s all there is to it. And I think he will come through too.

********UPDATE*********

(at LostSapphire''s request)

Right now I''m waiting.

Dan is supposed to get some spinel rough soon and he''s going to go ahead and look through it and see what he gets and if it will work. In the meantime, I bought the crazy gray cushion spinel which makes me super happy.

Barry has the two stones (large color change round-7.7mm, and dark blue oval) but thinks that they are too dark, and I agree. He''s waiting for new spinel rough to come in, and when he gets it he''s going to cut it and then send me pics and specs. He''s expecting it to be a lighter blue than the other ones he sent me.

John B cut a stone for me, but it ended up cutting white, so he''s going to keep it for his own collection.

CWMNBN had some Umba sapphire rough that was STUNNING, but out of our price range. Then he got a blue gray sapphire rough that was in our price range, but he said it would fit a trillion and that wouldn''t work.

Peter is waiting for his contacts to get back to him about blue spinel. He sent me a pic of two pieces of rough, but he didn''t feel like either was perfect for it, so he''s still looking.

Jeff has been emailed, but he didn''t have what I wanted so I thanked him and we parted ways (with a promise to work with him in the future).

And I think that''s where I''m at. I''m not really looking for anything on my own, because stones I was looking at were not suitable for recut.

I think that covers it! Questions?

I''m so glad things seem to be working out with Barry! It sounds like he''s going to cut you a perfect e-ring stone.

What is your *colour of choice* at this point? Or are you waiting to hear what kind of rough your cutters have found for you?

Are you currently *enjoying* or *frustrated* by the process?

LS

EBree I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

Sorry LS! I was getting hounded to go grab something for dinner and got cut short!

I attached the picture of the blue that I think it my ideal-at the moment at least. This is the rough from CWMNBN that was too expensive. I like the softer icy blue shades. I went ahead and grabbed some paint swatches and I'll post those as well. So those would be *nice* to have, but by no means are they the only ones I would accept. BUT, I am waiting to hear/see what all of the vendors come up with. And I think Barry has his own idea of what I should have for it. And we shall see what comes from that search.

I am blah. Right now I'm just exhausted from the heat and all of the preparations for school on Monday. I wish that I would hear more from the vendors about what they are up to, but I understand that if there isn't anything going on, then there isn't anything to hear about-so why write?

I'm being patient. I'm riding the waves. I am chill. I'm waiting to get excited over *THE stone*.

And FF is ready for me to stop stressing out about it, and get it done already.

In other, slightly related news I went to buy my books with my dad today, and in the middle of a rant about how he doesn't want me to go to a wedding because he'd have to pay for it, I asked if he and my mom were going to pay for my wedding, and he said, "Of COURSE I'll pay for you to get married." And then he went back to complaining about my friend's wedding. So...that's new and interesting...

possible colors freke.jpg

These are some shades I think would be pretty.

AKA Sherwin-Williams paint samples...

hey again Freke, sorry I didn't realize about the bad cuts - ditto thankyou LTP for the info.
Gary - Gary Braun from Finewater, he is the first vendor I was in talks with.

Glad you mentioned the recut thing - I was about to start asking Gary about the possibility of doing so, but I imagine it is a long and involved process to find one that would work well
40.gif

*fingers crossed* that you find something you really love from one the guys you've mentioned (and for me too!)..

Just a question re. the pic of rough from above, how much did you say he wanted for the one on the left..? Also, would you mind to tell me how I contact Barry ? thanks!

The one on the left is $550 per carat and he was thinking that he could get 1.23ish carats out of it. It''s a BEAUTIFUL stone. And that would be a square cushion. I''d email him and ask him about it. As for Barry, I don''t think he''d mind having his email on here, but I don''t know for sure. I would ask Barbara for it, and if she doesn''t get back to you soon with it, then let me know, and I''ll ask Barry if it''s ok that I post it. Cool? She has an email for him posted, but it is not the right one.

Anyway, let me know what''s up, and if I can help in any way.

Hrmm, I can see what you''re saying that is really quite expensive - more than I wanted to spend for sure..but ta for the info.

I was wondering have you seen the options at Diamond Expert ? http://www.diamondexpert.com/index.html
(sorry if its already been mentioned, I lose track, lol)..

I haven''t, and it hasn''t been mentioned. I''m going to go browse it now.

Let me know if Barbara gives it to you.

I''m going a little nuts right now. It''s late.
