gecko I''m digging the supernova oval (I own one already WOW...) but something about the round really speaks to me. And I think that the oval is a bit too dark for me.
Hey Mischka! I love Barry''s cuts. It was my first loose colored stone and I got spoiled really quickly...They are stunning! Between him and Dan...I''m a lucky lady.
EBree Well...I keep debating it. I''ve figured out that that''s about the same size as a 1.75ct diamond, and I could probably do it. My finger is normally a 6 (unless I lose some weight in which case it could be a 5) or a 6.25 when swollen.
Mercoledi I sent him another email asking him if he had any other photos, and for a couple more details...
AJ I actually have seen that-I think someone posted it. It''s really a gorgeous stone. Or maybe I found it myself? I don''t know... Blah!
In other news I woke up to a dream that FF and I were in Vegas, and getting ready to get married. And then FF woke me up. Lol.

Hey AJ--where did you find that one?
Lol gecko. Funny stuff! I get weird stuff from FF all the time too.
I bought several stones from Gemburi and they all had windows. This one could be different, but all of their pics look fabulous, and stones - not so much.Date: 8/23/2008 3:50:03 PM

Have return period, and pretty reasonable price - could be worth inspection, and maybe big enough for a re cut if necessary..? But the cut looks decent for a native one, imho.
hth !

Freke - Barry it should be! Your favorite cutter for your most important piece of jewelry. I have a feeling he is going to come through for you.Date: 8/23/2008 6:01:20 PM

I''m so happy I finally got in touch with Barry. He wrote me a really sweet email the other day about how those stones were too dark, that the round would be too big and look clunky on an engagement ring, and that he would like one of his stones to be made into my engagement ring. It was so genuine, and he''s such a nice guy. I do adore his work, and I plan on keeping him in business for a good long time (and not just with this stone!--Although it may just take a good long time!)
What is your *colour of choice* at this point? Or are you waiting to hear what kind of rough your cutters have found for you?Date: 8/23/2008 7:41:58 PM

********UPDATE*********
Right now I''m waiting.
Dan is supposed to get some spinel rough soon and he''s going to go ahead and look through it and see what he gets and if it will work. In the meantime, I bought the crazy gray cushion spinel which makes me super happy.
Barry has the two stones (large color change round-7.7mm, and dark blue oval) but thinks that they are too dark, and I agree. He''s waiting for new spinel rough to come in, and when he gets it he''s going to cut it and then send me pics and specs. He''s expecting it to be a lighter blue than the other ones he sent me.
John B cut a stone for me, but it ended up cutting white, so he''s going to keep it for his own collection.
CWMNBN had some Umba sapphire rough that was STUNNING, but out of our price range. Then he got a blue gray sapphire rough that was in our price range, but he said it would fit a trillion and that wouldn''t work.
Peter is waiting for his contacts to get back to him about blue spinel. He sent me a pic of two pieces of rough, but he didn''t feel like either was perfect for it, so he''s still looking.
Jeff has been emailed, but he didn''t have what I wanted so I thanked him and we parted ways (with a promise to work with him in the future).
And I think that''s where I''m at. I''m not really looking for anything on my own, because stones I was looking at were not suitable for recut.
I think that covers it! Questions?
hey again Freke, sorry I didn't realize about the bad cuts - ditto thankyou LTP for the info.Date: 8/23/2008 6:01:20 PM

AJ That is a really pretty color. Unfortunately Peter told me that a decent recut would need more depth-like 5mm. That's been the problem with all of the stones I've found so far being potential recuts. Blah! BTW--who is Gary?
LTP Thanks for the warning. I think I'm really just going to wait it all out and see what comes from Dan, Peter, Barry, CWMNBN, and if NONE of those pan out, Jeff is getting harassed. Lol. I have high hopes fromm them all.
The one on the left is $550 per carat and he was thinking that he could get 1.23ish carats out of it. It''s a BEAUTIFUL stone. And that would be a square cushion. I''d email him and ask him about it. As for Barry, I don''t think he''d mind having his email on here, but I don''t know for sure. I would ask Barbara for it, and if she doesn''t get back to you soon with it, then let me know, and I''ll ask Barry if it''s ok that I post it. Cool? She has an email for him posted, but it is not the right one.Date: 8/24/2008 1:40:56 AM

Gary - Gary Braun from Finewater, he is the first vendor I was in talks with.
Glad you mentioned the recut thing - I was about to start asking Gary about the possibility of doing so, but I imagine it is a long and involved process to find one that would work well
*fingers crossed* that you find something you really love from one the guys you''ve mentioned (and for me too!)..
Just a question re. the pic of rough from above, how much did you say he wanted for the one on the left..? Also, would you mind to tell me how I contact Barry ? thanks!
Of course thats ok ! I''ll wait and see what Barbara has to say first, and let you know if I still need it laterDate: 8/24/2008 2:51:02 AM

I haven''t, and it hasn''t been mentioned. I''m going to go browse it now.
Let me know if Barbara gives it to you.
I''m going a little nuts right now. It''s late.
