Hahahah!!!!

Happy now MP?

Well I heard from John B. Not only did the stone come out almost white, but it also came out around 6.5mm instead of the 7.5 he was expecting. So...I''m disappointed, but there are worse things. He''s going to keep looking around to see if he can get any blues from his peeps.

I also heard from the cutter who must not be named, and he''s got a couple of sapphires he thinks I might be interested in, so we''ll see what comes from that.

So...yeah. Just waiting. I wish I was more patient.

Need opinions!!!

I got pics of some sapphire rough from CWMNBN. (Think like Harry Potter!)

Tell me what you think!!!!These are from Umba and taken under halogen lights. Apparently when they are taken outside they look bluer. What do you think?

Stones were rotated and photographed from the other side. Tell me what you think!

Freke, I LOVE those!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All are beautiful. But I''m partial to the two blue ones.

I like the second from the left, it looks like it will cut into a really gorgeous blue.

Ahahaha, channeling HP. CWMNBN, awesome.

Peter told me you contacted him too. He''s stoked :)

Oooooooh!

Granted, I have no idea what color-change happens when rough is cut, but my favorite is #2 (second from left).

I like #3 also and I am dumb, what is CWMNBN??? I know I will recognize it once you tell me.

Cutter Who Must Not Be Named :)

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhh, tee hee, thanks MP

Linda

I love them all but really like the two on the far left.

MP!!! Thank you for clearing that up!

Thanks for the quick opinions guys. FF is sleeping, otherwise I''d be bugging him like crazy. This is the first time I''ve been excited and gotten that fluttery feeling in my stomach-but I''m kind of not excited about sapphires after getting my spinel and seeing the fire and sparkle that come from it...So I''m conflicted.

It took me a second, too lol.

Freke, the two on the left are winning our votes!

A Spinel has more fire and sparkle then a sapphire right??????

I think so....That''s what I''ve always thought...

Oh. how pretty, my favorate from one glance is the second one on the left, such a pretty blue!

I am really like the purple ones too.

Now, I''m definitely no expert, but I think it has something to do with the Refraction Index of the different stones.

Diamond: 2.417
Sapphire: 1.766
Spinel: 1.712

"Refractive Index

When light passes from one density or type of material (air) into another (the gemstone), it is bent or "refracted." The amount, or degree, that the beam of light is bent will be determined by the density difference between the air and the gem. The measurement used to quantify the amount that a light beam is bent in a given material is known as its "refractive index" (RI)."

Thanks MissP!!! That is very interesting.

I think the general population likes #2, with #1 coming in second...

Oh how funny, I just saw those roughs today and came here to tell you about it! I thought one of those could be perfect for what you''re looking for

Let us know what you decide, I''m getting all excited!

#2 with #1 the runner up.

ETA: Actually, I'm liking #1 more on second glance, LOL. Between those 2 (IMO).

I love the tones coming off of the one on the far left! Yummy blue/lavender. I'll have to find this CWMNBN!

Those are some nice color Umba rough. The Umba''s always do the color shift to color change. Nice stones FrekeChild! Also btw sorry about the pale blue spinel not working out. I am keeping my eye out and will keep trying to find some rough for the stone.

Babyblue Nice! I really like the color on this rough. They are all beautiful. I got FF''s input too. This has been one interesting process...I''m getting all excited too!

gecko I think that''s the general consensus. I think they should cut around 1-1.5cts. We''ll see what CWMNBN has to say about them.

mercoledi Go hunt him down! He has some beautiful stuff.

GemRite I think they are really pretty. Thanks John! It''s ok about the spinel. I have to admit I''m still curious as to what it looks like though!

I''m still open to suggestions guys! Let me know if you see anything! This is probably going to be a very long process...

Why couldn''t I make this easy and just like diamonds?!

Hey, I found this in some old bookmarks. I''m sure you''ve already seen it but..blue grey spinel

Not sure where I read it, but with colored stones it is significantly harder to get the exact color, clarity, shape and size that you want. Generally something has to give. For me it is generally shape. I noticed that Lost Sapphire ended up going that route as well.

Go for a beautiful color that you love most of all! I''m having a ball watching your journey!

I actually hadn't mercoledi! that sucker is really pretty.

Gecko Seriously! It'd make it so much easier.

Fly Girl I know...I think color is most important to me with shape being next. I'm more willing to go with a different size, and truly, clarity hasn't even really crossed my mind.

I'm glad someone is enjoying my journey.

I just found out that there is no way that we can afford any of CWMNBN's sapphires. He's only going to charge $550 per carat, but he's thinking that they will run around around 1.20 carats.

I'm surprised that I'm actually really upset about it. I think I really fell for the color of those sapphires.

Are you sure you can''t afford any of them? maybe one is smaller than the others?
What shape are you after? Did you see the blue and purple spnels on gemrite''s site? I noticed there was quite a vaiety of shapes.
