Last minute decision! I was planning something else, but can't go wrong with diamonds as a present to my wife

Budget 10k-15K, but prefer closer to 10K

I would like at least 1ct per ear, eye clean.

Martini setting.

That is about all I know as all of this is new to me. Is is still possible to get this done or should I wait till next year when I have more time to research?

Appreciate any input!

Whiteflash is a good place to start. An H color, ACA, clarity of VS2 for just under $8000.00. You can then add a setting of your choosing. You need to reach out to them asap, as you are running out of time...! You can’t get 2ctw for your budget that I saw. With the ACA diamonds, if you want to upgrade in the future it will be easy. The H color will be very white on her ears and thats a great clarity, as well.
Another place to check would be ID Jewelry.

It’s close but likely still possible. The easiest thing to do is look at Whiteflash, Brian Gavin Diamonds or High Performance Diamonds and pick 2. G/H/I vs2 or SI1 would be a general guess for studs since no one is up on your ear critically examining your earrings like they do with engagement rings.

With James Allen or blue Nile, it’s a lot more work.

I would stress getting SI1 clarity for earrings. No one will be able to see the inclusions generally speaking.

Also, we go by MM size and not CTW. Most places will cut stones deep to retain weight.

The branded stones that we recommend do not. So smaller CTW will look nearly the same as a generic diamond of 2ctw.

These would be a bit above your range but not by much. Martini settings are inexpensive.

WhIteflash has an easy return and upgrade policy so if she doesn’t like, you can have hassle free exchanges.

You can also ask them for photos etc. like in real like photos. Or you can just pull the trigger.

These are branded “a cut above” stones

Let us know if you want us to check blue Nile, but their upgrade policy is double. (Diamond shrinking syndrome is a real thing)

At Whiteflash, you just have to spend $1 more to upgrade.

James Allen does have pre-set diamond studs, they have 2 cttw , F/G color, Vs1/Vs2 for $10k (just barely under for 14k gold, and just a little over for platinum settings) - downside is I don't believe they are certified.

But Whiteflash ACA stones and HPD are a guaranteed knockout, with an easy upgrade policy.

FWIW, there are “maul” (mall) quality diamonds and then there are our quality diamonds.

You could get them at James Allen or blue Nile, but we would have to run the numbers and find you two separate ones.

Or you could call Yekutiel at ID jewelry in NYC and tell him we sent you and you want “pricescope quality” studs, but they likely won’t be GIA or AGS certified diamonds, but if that is ok to you, then you should be fine. I don’t know his upgrade policy offhand.

These come to $10,400, wire price.

I believe they'd be eye clean and a very nice match. Total ctw is 2.02ctw.

They won't be delivered in time for Christmas, but - since it would drive your wife INSANE to know she came this close, then had to wait another YEAR to get such gorgeous studs! - why not get something smaller for Christmas and attach a note that says: "The most romantic gift in the world should come on Valentine's Day. Stay tuned..." That would be a pretty big winner, I'm guessing, and then she'd only have a 7 week wait. .. :)).. Way better than having to wait another year!

And then - get them set in platinum martini settings for Feb. 14th.

My best suggestion. Good luck!

As an aside, BGD, HP diamonds and ACA from Whiteflash are branded super ideals.

This is my HPD (which sells the brand crafted by infinity) K color diamond. 798375

Though I would not recommend getting a K pair unless your wife said ok to it first. Color can be a tricky thing for some women.

Ooh, nice fat arrows, @mrs-b ! Did blue Nile take off the GIA certificates as well, or am I not looking In the right place?

Edited: one has the cert and the other does not. No biggie. G Si1 is a nice combo.

Thank you so much everyone.

I can up the budget up to 15K, if there is something too good to pass. I edited the original post.

Great suggestion about Valentine day, but I would rather gt something by X mass (if I can) - otherwise, the valentine day suggestion is it!

Does ID Jewelry ship I am about an hour away from NYC, and I rather avoid in person meeting due to the pandemic. And any idea on how to word what I am looking for?

Okay, so if you can go up to $15k, these would make me extremely happy :

Both 1.12 ct, H, SI1 (all crafted by infinity diamonds are guaranteed eye clean to my understanding) - if you wire transfer you should be able to buy the diamonds and have them set for just under $15k :

You'd have to contact them to see if they could get them set and sent in time for Christmas, but owning CBI's or ACA's are a dream for most.

As a side note, HPD is getting a hoarde of new inventory which will hopefully start showing up on the website in 3 weeks if you decide to wait. I’m about to upgrade and I’m waiting for the new inventory to see if I can get larger than I intended.

If you call ID Jewelry, ask for Yekutiel and tell him you want ideal cut diamonds, pricescope quality and that we sent you. Shoot for G color, Si1 clarity. My favorite combo for studs is F Si1 but once I got my K color CBI, I would max size and go down to H/I color but F/G/H is totally safe.

Yes, he ships.

The CBI diamonds from HP Diamonds that @vintageinjune found would be fantastic.

P.S. his name is pronounced “you Kai tell”

As another aside, there is a whole world of diamond jackets, in which case she would likely need a 4 prong basket setting.

I started off with martinis and had to reset when I ordered my custom Brian Gavin jackets.
795795

(These are cushion shaped jackets for round studs)

So you could stick with your original budget and see if Yekutiel could also make jackets to go with her studs.

But also check on his return policy in case she wouldn’t like that and or if I got you too complicated....

Btw, I believe Id Jewelry is open today.

I got in touch with Yekutiel. He will send me some choices. I will post once I have the info.

in terms of the setting, platinum vs white gold? What is the approx price for these settings? I didn’t see any price on HP diamonds

I prefer white gold since it’s less heavy and make sure you get guardian backs. I would say no to screw backs, they hurt me and rip my ear lobe holes up.

3 prong martinis should be less than $400

Here's a good pair from Whiteflash:

Another set:

I really like their trade-in policy. I've upgraded my studs a few times! lol!

Definitely no screw backs. Just a warning that martini settings can stretch the piercing hole, but if that's what she wants, get it. I prefer platinum because it is hypoallergenic.

If it were me, I'd go with Whiteflash for their trade-up policy and amount of options they have in inventory. Your wife may want larger studs down the road (most of us do several upgrades over the years) and it is really difficult to sell the old ones (you'll take a financial loss doing so.)

The settings will run anywhere from $350-$600, dependent on if you go with larger backs, platinum, etc.

It will be fun to see what you come up with! What a happy Christmas this will be for her!

Well she didn’t specify any setting...I just read Martini is popular and I liked the way it looks but I’m open to anything you all suggest. This is truly a surprise!

the WF policy does sound very enticing...but am I paying more for it when compare to ID Jewelery or HPD? Hmmm

Btw, I sneaky took a pic of what she has on now. Let me know what you guys think the size is. I def want to get something bigger or at least the same size 9C6A427F-CE1A-41D7-B112-71B4DC15D675.jpeg

Honestly, if she has a pair like this, I would go with HPD or Whiteflash so she can trade up easily.

I don’t know what size these are, but the look on the large side to me.

Yeah, those look like at least 1.5 cts each (3 ctw) to me and very possibly larger.

They dwarf my 2ctw studs.

:-o

I thought that was 1ct?!

No way in heck those are 1 ct each (2ctw).
