Since you already took it to your jeweler, I won''t say what I think, but I''m looking forward to seeing what he does with it!
You can say, I don''t mind. It''s not everyone''s cup of tea, I know.

Be 100% sure the gaps aren''t going to bother you. You will see the ring and scrutinize it all the time so think over it carefully. Other than that, the orange pops very well against the white metal and diamonds.
Thanks Chrono, honestly, the gaps don''t bother me that much, as they''re hard to see unless you look really close. I also have the stone sitting a bit crooked in there.

Thanks to Everyone else for their kind words!!

Looks very nice, I am glad that you''ll be able to set it soon! A pity LOGR doesn''t have a less blingy line (which are quite beautiful, mind you). May I ask how much you anticipate paying for the prong work and setting? I had recently inquired at a local shop about setting stones and I was prompted told NO, in not such a nice manner (suffice it to say, no business for them!). I wish I had a good jewler with whom I could my more "mundane" jeweler tasks in addition to the full service custom design work

PS It looks *SO* much like that Tiffany Legacy with a spess I saw several years ago but at a much more reasonable price ;)

It really wasnt' anything bad - I truly like the color combo! Do you really like the stone set east/west rather than north/south? I've been thinking about that setting for a long time, but I've never liked the way the bezel stands so high on the setting - it seems like it would really prevent the stone from sitting low. Maybe your jeweler can take the edge down if you don't like it.

Thanks Sleepy! You can say it''s more reasonable than Tiffany, LOL!!

They have some lesser blingy and more solid gold pieces, but they are few, and I wish they would do more men''s rings.

The total cost to set this stone is $150 (adding prongs, replating and setting), which is reasonable to me. I recently went to another jeweler nearer to my home, and they wanted $84 just to set my oval cuprian in the perfectly calibrated setting. No replating, nothing. Never going there again!! My regular jeweler only wanted $40 to do that.

I''m doing the stone E/W because N/S shows a distinct air gap, which is more noticable.

Thanks Cellentani.

Joining late but you know how I feel about settings. I always want the stone to fit perfectly and set perfectly.

JMHO... but I think that spess needs a setting that is going to be purfect for it. It would bother me about seeing the inner framing part if seen sideways.

TL, my Barry garnet and that setting is till at the jewellers...it''s been like 3 months now!

Hi TL, If the jeweler can make the gaps appear smaller, it may work. If not, would you consider an amethyst or citrine? Their colours are vivid and beautiful and will definitely pop against white gold and is generally less pricey.

I really don't want an amethyst or citrine for this setting, and the tourmaline that you posted is just not my cup of tea. It's too yellow, I like blue/greens, but thanks for suggesting it. The problem is that all the vivid colors in gems that I like are either too expensive, or purchased in the blink of an eye, and to find an 8x8 on top of that, well just impossible. There was an 8x8 on Barry's website I was considering not too long ago, and I just saw it posted, but someone bought it ten seconds later!! LOL!! It actually had two buyers!!

What is taking so long??

Wow that looks awsome

What if you get one custom made by lOGR to fit your Spess? It shouldn''t be too much more $$.

I don''t know why my ring is taking so long. My jeweller sent it out to one of his friend to set it but he''s apparently having difficulties (that was a month ago). I''ll be visiting my jeweller next week (he called and said he has a few estate pieces that he wants me to see), so I''ll enquire about it then.

Mochi,
The problem is that I have the setting already, and I don''t want to spend the extra $$$ to buy a whole new setting. I''m completely convinced, aside from a miracle, that I''ll never get a stone that I love that will fit this setting.

I''m sorry about your ring taking so long, keep us posted.

I see.. Yes, Barry''s stones are so highly demanded that you actually have to be lucky to be able to buy something. I wanted Karee''s latest tourmaline too, it was in my cart but alas, I was not as fast. As long as you are decided and you are the kind of lady who knows what she wants, the ring will work for you. Worse case if it doesn''t, it can always be reset so please post pictures when you are done. Hopefully the jeweler can do something to minimise the gaps.

I''m really glad you decided to set your spess in this setting, it''s been empty so long. I really like how the orange pops against the white gold. I think this will make a beautiful ring. Sometimes creativity means working with what you have an choosing the optimal solution.

Here''s the spessartite set finally. The jeweler had to build prongs for the spessartite and they did a nice job of positioning it in there for symmetry and covering the air gaps. It''s a little tilted in this photo, but when exactly head on, you cannot see the rims of the opening that well. I''m not a perfectionist when it comes to settings, so some of you might not see it as perfect, but I''m just glad I was able to use the setting and I really like the stone in there. It looks very brown in these photos, but it is orange and sparkles like mad. As always, honest opinions are appreciated.

Beautiful stone and ring, it''ll look gorgeous on your hand, glad your jeweller was able to do a nice job positioning the stone.

Another beauty!

TL when you look at the Tiffany and you look at yours, it''s incredibly hard to justify Tiffany''s ludicrous prices isn''t it? I know you''ve taken extreme close ups of the ring which emphasizes the metal around the rim so can you take a photo of the ring on your finger at "normal" length please? I bet it looks hubba hubba licious! I love it anyway but would love to see a more normal perspective ................... off to find a Spess now!!!! I WANT ONE! See what you''ve done to me? lol

It seems to fit fairly well given a cushion setting for an emerald cut stone. You need to work on those photos though, all of that brown...

Well, I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to settings, but seeing a bit of the rim doesn't bug me much on your ring. Seriously, IRL, I'd be so drawn to the spess, I'd hardly even notice, especially when seeing it at an angle (or when you're telling me to back-off 'cause I'm getting too close!). Does the stone sit high because of the bezel rim? I finally won an auction for one of those, and I still haven't figured out what I'm going to do, but I'm thinking about having LOGR take off the bezel (so it doesn't stick up at all) and add prongs. Do you have a profile shot?

And, I'm so jealous you have a spess in that size - pretty amazing!

ETA: TL, have you ever gotten 18K white gold from LOGR? I was wondering if it would be less grey. I know you didn't find much difference in the RG 18K.
