DreamerD-

please feel free to kick me if I am wrong :blackeye:

I feel like you may be alittle like myself- when you get into a hobby you become consumed with it. At least that is how I am. What is the reset about? Is it about getting more finger coverage- which would be accomplished by 1 &2 - or about the excitement of getting something new- the searching, buying, waiting, and new feeling?

That is soo how I am at least- about something new and exciting. For instance I bough a bunch of loose small- very small- diamonds on ebay for fun with all these ideas, and now that I have them, I find myself looking for more. I think most of the fun is in researching and dreaming up projects.

If its about the finger coverage- then I definitely stick with my guns of #1--- even #2..... If it's about getting something new and different- then #3.

Either way- congrats on the gift you deserve it!

Sorry meant to say that I stick to my guns with #2- the three stone... then #1... lol

My vote is for #1

#3 gets my vote. I love having a casual everyday ring. I call it my "camping ring," though I never wear it camping. Seriously, though, a casual ring comes in handy. You get to enjoy the sparkle while feeling comfy. If you have any worry that you might miss your solitaire, then #3 might be a good thing for you. Heck, why not make it a casual 3 stone ring if budget allows? 3 smaller stones give great horizontal coverage, and then you'd have your solitaire for other occasions. I'm biased, of course. I love the idea of adding another ring to your collection.

Dreamer Babe. First, let me congratulate you on your awesomeness and the recognition of said awesomeness. You've helped so many of us. Thank you!!!!

Now, I voted for the three stone, cause I think you'll love it. But in case you want to rethink the whole thing, get out of the box, so to speak, I recommend this Dutch beauty.

I would go with a three stones ring with pear diamond sides...not so common, not so weird, great finger coverage and the pear sidestones won't detract attention from your beautiful center stone.
Agreed! This is what I envision for you, Dreamer. I think a three-stone with pear sides would be perfect.

Congratulations on your recognition. It is truly well deserved. :appl: :appl: :appl: Like many others here, I too vote for the 3-stone ring. I love the setting you're contemplating as Yssie's ring is one of my favourites. However, I think I would look at slightly larger side stones, perhaps .35 to .40's to give you the wow factor you're looking for. Whatever you choose, I know it'll be a knockout. :twirl:

I was thinking about pear potential too - my only question is about the uneven colour distribution in this shape - if you go w/ say H's next to that J centre, will they look *too white*? OTOH if you go w/ J's, will the tips look *too tinted*? Or for stones in this size is it a non-issue in practice?

I think the poor cut quality of pears in general would drive you nuts. Honestly I love my ring but I really notice a difference in the cut quality between the pears and the center. Maybe if you can find superideal ones? I think I remember reading before that you had noticed this also.

Someone needs to develop a great pear! how about an August Vintage Pear

I did try this style on at Tiffany and am sorry to report it did not float my boat at all! I like it in pictures, but not on my hand at all.

While I would love that, my budget is really small, as in, like, $1000  so there is no way I can get a ring like that!

Oh gotcha. I was confused by your op with the cost to you part. Thought you were adding to it. Ok, then I still vote etoile! :cheeky:
That wide shank will give good coverage. Hope you get exactly what you want!

what about it did you not like?

Will a threestone with rounds definitely avoid whatever it is that you did not like about the design with pears?

hahahahahahah:-) THREE STONE FOR SURE! Dreamer, you know it is and has been the desire of your heart to have a honkin three stone, for like, ever

I say three stone with the setting like Yssie's but with .4 side stones (so maybe you need to get the side stones now and have the fun of obsessing about the setting for a while before you buy it:cheeky:

You are a size wh*re and you have an AWESOME HUGE GORGEOUS center stone that you've always wanted...but I think if you get .25 side stones they won't seem big enough to you, plus I think the proportions will be a little too small...

I'd get two J BGD sig ideals that are between .4 and .5 ;))

If you miss your solitare later then you have nice studs :appl: (but something tells me you will not miss your solitare once that gorgeous diamond is snuggled between two equally gorgeous diamonds:-)

haha.. no that was cost to me, adding some money to the gift, but still not near enough for a brand new three stone. But I shall accept your vote none the less!

How often do you wear your various sets, Coati?

Yes, I just think pears are Meh. Three stone with rounds has always appealed to me when I try them on.

I voted for the cushion halo with plain shank because that has always been the best of both worlds for me. I love the ideal RB, but I also love a squarish shape, so combine the 2 YUMMY!!!!!!!!!

I absolutely love the Guinevere setting too. Excellent choice. If you don't shoose this....you can see what it looks like on me in the future

I voted for three stone because from reading your previous posts about this topic, it seems that a three-stone really speaks to you. It is certainly understandable to second guess yourself though, with all this PS eye candy of different but beautiful styles. I may be in my temp setting forever because I cant decide on one style I like. Can't wait to see what you decide! :cheeky:

Then pears will not do! I think that you have to definitely be truly, madly, head-over-heels in love with whatever you ultimately choose. Personally, I like side stones to be on the smaller side, proportionally, but I think I might go a little bigger than .25 ct each with your center stone, like in the .3-.35 range. JMHO, of course!

I think that there's no best thing to do than trying different styles on your own finger: I did suggest three stones with pears because I had the chance to try it on and it was great, very thirties' diva (maybe because that day I wore dark red nail polish on my nails).
Have you ever tried the etoile ring on you finger?

I voted for the 3 stone

although I would never change my JM or my OMC - I must admit that having seen Yssie's stunning ring - I have occasionally popped my earring studs next to the stone to see what it would look like :naughty:

my OMC is a 1.59 and the 0.3 studs look quite nice proportion wise either side to my eye as they sparkle just enough but don't over power

what ever you decide - enjoy your treat Dreamer - I have been here for a year now and I know you are always helping out so many

we all will be sure to enjoy it with you!!

Coati what are the size of the three diamonds in your lucious cushion bezel three-stone? Do you know the approximate mm difference? I just think the proportions are so great on that ring. And I may have come into a little more money for this project and I may want to make a scaled-down version of your three stone :Up_to_something: Tweaked a little of course :halo: .

I have tried the etoile and adore it, especially in yellow gold. If I go the route of a second ring in a stand-alone chunkier style, it will be in higher Karat yellow gold so I have different looks depending on my mood.

Update

So I went to Birks today and looks at some solitaires in the .25ct size and also the .38ct size and held them next to my 1.7ct.

I came to the conclusion that I have been totally spoiled by my larger diamond and .25ct just seemed so small it is completely and utterly not worth the money ::) The .38 still looks pretty small to my eye, I must admit, but it looked better than the .25 no doubt at all.

But I realized that I like stones at least .50ct for visual impact. And I realized I can't have it all in one ring. And I also tried on a semi-bezel ring with a wider shank and comfort fit and once again, really liked it a lot. So now I am sort of leaning towards a "camping ring" of some sort :cheeky: I'll update as I get closer to a decision.

I dont think you can go wrong :praise:

ooh what about a yellow gold etoile w/ a yellowy diamond? like a O/P or lower ...

Dreamer, I really think you might be happy with the three stone ring, if it doesn't work out, you at least have the sidestones to make earrings out of them for later plus it is a blingy classic look imo. I'm with another poster, sorry don't have time to scroll back  but she mentioned that having multiple rings, may cause you to "favor" a ring, and it might just end up sitting in your jewelry box, but I don't know you personally and whether you do wear multiple rings often or switch them out. I'm more of a "this is the one ring I want to wear for my e'ring finger only and once its on, it stays on, I may occassionaly not wear my solitaire with the band, ". As much as I love many different rings, I can only have the "one" on certain finger, and my jewelry gets worn often without coming off. i'd say get the three stone now, as that is what you have always talked about. Then for another anniversary, acquire the etoile-like ring (if you still long for it) or get the sidestones large enough and say if you didn't like the three stone look you can at least put one of the sidestones in the etoile-like setting and get your Large solitaire back.

Logged in just to vote! How are ya my friend?
I think you should go for the three stone with round sides. I don't think the .25 sides will be large enough in person if you are already questioning them now. Though I think the setting has a lot to do with it too. With some settings the side stones are tucked all the way under the edges of the center stone and you can barely see them...

Hey I was just thinking about you! How are you liking your RB?

Thanks for the vote. I agree, if I go the three stone route I will try to get closer to .40ct.

I am LOVING this ring. Haven't even thought about changing it and no longer stalk the WF inventory for the perfect stone. After wearing it for a few months now I am very, very happy and could not be more content with my decision to forgo the princess and get the RB. Guess I was chasing after the wrong shape all along!

How ya doin?

P.S.
Congrats on the awesome gift. Very well deserved!!!
