I am LOVING this ring. Haven't even thought about changing it and no longer stalk the WF inventory for the perfect stone. After wearing it for a few months now I am very, very happy and could not be more content with my decision to forgo the princess and get the RB. Guess I was chasing after the wrong shape all along!

How ya doin?

I am so glad!! I am also very happy with my RB, the size is wonderful and the cut awesome. Very occassionally I wish it were more colorless, but it is a passing thing and honestly, there is always something if you really obsess.

Now just trying to figure out how/if I want to reset it!

So true! You can always find something to if you try!
Well give it some more thought and ask yourself this...if you didn't just win the $$ would you still be longing for the reset? If you can say yes...then do it! Why not?

Hey there Dreamer,

I have a similiar situation. I also have J 1.7 and I am going to reset with halo or split shank, but I am not going to worry about lighter color diamonds surrounding center because I actually like the contrast. I'm thinking of a few tacoris, split shank or more traditional halo around center stone , very HW.

whatever you decide, its going to be great... your stone is just so amazing!

I am one of the few who voted for the halo setting. That's what I did with my stone and couldn't be happier. For a diamond your size, you will be sporting a large rock. It will be gorgeous! And that is all that I have to say about that :))

I vote three stone! I have often wondered what The Brick might have turned out like in a three stone and I can't wait to see what yours looks like if you go that way!

I have been following this thread from the beginning but i was very reluctant to express an opinion, because i got the impression that Dreamer is very confused and adding even more opinions to this long thread wouldn't help her after all...
Dreamer, first of all congrats again for the well deserved gift...
So ever since you got your gorgeous J diamond you have been constantly talking about resetting it to a three stone. But all of a sudden, when the gift came along, you weren't sure about it any more. I think that the three stone resetting was a safe bling dream to dream of since its prospect wasn't so close, but when the gift came along and it became possible, you realized that maybe it wasn't what you really wished for...The question is: Do you know now what you really want, or could you end up spending both the money of the gift and some precious money out of you pocket, for something that eventually won't "sing" to you?
I wish i could just keep my mouth shut and let you take your decision without any more...interference, but i just can't!!! First of all, i don't think that another ring is a very good idea...For all the reasons that the other ladies have already mentioned...You might end up putting it in its box and leaving it there for good because you're so thrilled and used to your big sparkler now that anything smaller on your hand won't look enough for you, trust me...On those days that you can't wear such heavy bling, a simple band would do the job.
The three stone could be the answer, if you seemed to be sure about it but you're not at all...that's my impression...I'm also afraid that very small side stones will look inexistent to you but much bigger ones will give more finger coverage while making your 1.666ct stone look smaller...
Personally, i'd love to see your stone set in the halo setting...I am convinced that it will make your gorgeous big stone look even more gorgeous and huge and it will look much more flattering on your hand, given your ring size and all...
I hope that you really end up doing what will make you really happy, but if you're not sure, better hold your horses for a while... :wavey:

I agree 100% with natyLad

Also, I change poopy diapers in my track suit with my rings...no problem!

Here's what I was going to post before reading natyLad's post:

----

Beautiful...

3 stone...

Halo...

Vintage style...(to cure (appease) the longing for an AVC)

I really think that if you get a second ring that is smaller than the one you have there is a serious risk that it will sit, unworn, most of the time.

Naty your point, and Amy's from earlier, are well taken.

I am the type who likes to analyze things to death, to make totally certain that the decision I am making is the *best* one. In this case, my decision-making process is no different than it has even been in the past! I mull and ponder and obsess, and somehow eventually out of the murk comes a decision that is -- usually -- correct. The decision for my most recent upgrade was horrendously difficult, but completely and utterly the right thing. I think this process will be just as hard. And just as meandering. The input for everyone else does not confuse me at all, it really does help me to hear others' thoughts.

I wish I was the type to just *know* what I wanted to do, or the type who did not value money as much as I do :rodent: so that I would not worry so much about "wasting" my money by making the wrong decision ;))

Someone asked why I want a reset.

I want one because I feel like my rings are too boring and don't make enough of a statement to match my personality. I do not wear accessories, or lots of jewelry, I do not own a lot of fine things. The one thing I own that is a truly beautiful thing, that I spent money on and there was not good "purpose" behind it, is my diamond. It is a symbol of utter decadence to me. Now, I want to look at my ring and think it is special and unique and spectacular and amazing. And *me*. I suppose that I feel like I got the diamond right, but now I need to get the whole piece right.

Hmmm... makes me think a simple "boring" three stone ain't gonna cut it, eh? :wink2:

Dreamer, I don't know what to vote for (apart from three-stone, for I thought that was your only dream! :) ) -- but since you want it to reflect your uniqueness, can you give an idea of what kind of way that could be captured? How do the designs of MaeVona strike you? I think there's something magical in these forms, modern and organic. Or the unique rings at Krikawa? Some eye-catching work there also.

Anyway, I'm sure you've probably sized up these pieces already before now. Where does the compass needle flutter to? (or away from! :)))

Luckygirl, we are on the same wavelength! Dreamer, I was just going to suggest you find this setting to try on: http://tacori.com/Engagement-Rings/Collections/Dantela#/2623RDMD It has all the elements you want in one, 3 stone and cushion shaped halo. It's beautiful in person and you can get it through Pearlman's and maybe some of the other PS vendors.

Oh gotcha. I was confused by your op with the cost to you part. Thought you were adding to it. Ok, then I still vote etoile! :cheeky:
That wide shank will give good coverage. Hope you get exactly what you want!

Coati what are the size of the three diamonds in your lucious cushion bezel three-stone? Do you know the approximate mm difference? I just think the proportions are so great on that ring. And I may have come into a little more money for this project and I may want to make a scaled-down version of your three stone :Up_to_something: Tweaked a little of course :halo: .

Dreamer, my three stone is 5mm/5.6mm/5mm. With the bezels the measurements are 6.5mm/7mm/6.5. The shank is about 2.75mm. Coverage! I am with you on .5 carats or over for this type of ring. My stones are not huge, but I can see the facet pattern clearly-and I really enjoy them. I am pleased that you are considering a "camping ring" haha! Every gal needs a good camping ring! :cheeky:

You asked how often I wear the different rings. I wear the three stone a lot. It's comfortable, so it gets a lot of action. I definitely mix it up, though, because I need variety. I can't be tied to one ring. One husband, yes(ha!), but one ring...no way. I like design way too much for that. Methinks you are similar? I have no qualms about resets. I've even contemplated resetting the JM.
Like you, it is my one luxury. Simple life over here! That's why I like the idea of the casual ring. Sometimes casual is good/necessary. I actually took a scotch-brite pad to my big gold oec ring, to give it a matte finish..to make it a more rustic everyday ring. (Learned that from a fun jeweler) Just took the polish right off, and I love it!

Another nice thing about having a casual ring is when you take your larger solitaire out of the jewelry box-it's like getting a new ring! (a bigger one!)

Same here. I love all sorts of jewelry, but my rings have got to reflect my personality and my general aesthetics. I definitely relate to your last statement.

WOW WOW WOW. I don't know about Dreamer, but I'm in love.
I'm going to bookmark this! It has all the elements I want. Thanks Dreamer D for posting this thread, and to all these posters with wonderful suggestions.

OOOHHHH  I do have to say that Tacori is pretty BLINGtastic. Everything you want all wrapped up into on ring

Another option is that if you really don't like the three stone setting for your big rock after all is said and done you could take out your rock and put in a COLORED stone you like and end up with a wonderful RHR after all. Then go back to your tried and true solitaire and eternityband. No harm no foul.

Great minds ;)) This is definitely what I would do if I ever tired of the three-stone looks for my diamond.

I do really love that Ritani, but... ummmm... it is a little OTT for me :errrr:   I *think* I have eliminated the halo from the running because of the color of my stone. I really do not want to create a situation where I am not happy 100% with my diamond and I fear it is a possibility with a halo and the color contrast.

My first vote was for a 3 stone for you, but is that out of budget for now? Are you prepared to wait a bit until you can afford to do the 3 stone you want with larger sidestones? You have been wanting a 3 stone for such a long time now, it seems like that would be the natural path.

Have you considered making an etoile setting using your current diamond? This might be a temporary but practical solution for the next few years while your kid/kids are young. I am getting a .76 etoile ring for Christmas, and I have to be honest, after I tried it on I thought, why don't I just do this with my current 1.77! It is so easy to wear and is indestructible. Then a few years down the line, you could do the 3 stone for an anniversary or something. My etoile ring is white gold, but if I did my 1.77, I would definitely do yellow gold and possibly even coati's bezelled ring inspired. She knows this, I've told her about that! :naughty:

What a lovely predicament. Can't wait to see your final decision.

Another vote for the 3 stone. You won't be disappointed with the finger coverage. Personally for a low key day I wish I had something like your eternity band. That alone seems perfect, classy and timeless

late to the thread but I vote 3-stone as well, just don't settle and get the .50's if that what you want.

OK I have some photos thanks to the good folks are Whiteflash (kudos to Sheerah).

Top image is a 1.7ct diamond flanked by 0.37ct diamonds.
Bottom image is a 1.7ct diamond flanked by 0.25ct diamonds.

Also the same in a real life perspective.

And I may have printed it out and cut it out and taped it to my finger, and I may have photos to share later tonight.

Which do you prefer?

I'm usually partial to smaller sides BUt I gotta say in those photos the 0.37s look scrumptuous!

I agree with Yssie!! Love the larger sides!!!

I like the bigger ones too! Those are the size of my diamond studs (which are from WF). While they are not big, I can appreciate a H&A pattern.

Ditto this. that's almost the size of my favotite studs too. Just for grins, what not ask WF to set a 1.7 in between a pair of .45-.49's?

OK I think maybe a teensy bit smaller than the 0.37s? maybe like 0.33s?

I also think the .37 sides look wonderful and give you a greater wow factor.

My eyes immediately gets drawn to the .25's! The bigger ones blend togther with the center stone, the .25's make the center stone POP! How about a happy medium, .30's?

That's what I'm thinking too. The smaller ones make the center stone still look like the star of the show. You could go a bit larger but I wouldn't go with the larger ones unless you really want that blended look. It's pretty too but just depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

If you did cut those out and if you did tape them to your finger, how about taking some pictures?

Just sayin'. . . if you did. . . :naughty:

I think I like the .30 idea.... for some reason I think that the .25 is too small, and the .37 may be too big....the .30 might be jussst right! It's like goldilocks of the bling world!

LOVE the .37s and think it would be interesting to see something even just a bit bigger (.40-45ish). My ratio is .59 to 2.4, and the longer I wear it, the more I LOVE it! It's amazing finger coverage and I still get plenty of action from the sidestones. I think the .25s underwhelm a little. If you're going to go three stone, then get larger sidestones. Otherwise, it's just looks like a solitaire with accent stones (unless of course that's what you want)!

Unleash your inner crazy!

OK, you asked for it. Time to unleash my inner crazy!

Photos galore.

DEFINATLY the .37s :appl: :appl: :appl:

I think the .25 just look too small and get lost.
