Oh, Selkie, poor kitty! Maybe he''s not really allergic, but just neurotic. Perhaps some kitty prozac would help. My sister''s cat was on prozac (I think) for a while, and it really helped his behavior.

Back to my dress OCD:

This is the Casablanca that I tried on. Fluting Dress You can''t really tell in the photos, but I''m thinking the edging might be called fluting. There''s a delicate bit at the top, and maybe an inch and a half at the hem. Very dramatic and stylish. So, this dates back to Fall 2005, and I believe she told me $950. She goes from memory as best I can tell. It would need to be taken in a bit too.

She''s actually been tested, and is definitely allergic. However, she IS also neurotic and I''m seriously considering the prozac route too.

That Casablanca is scrumptious. Try RKBridal: 1792 or here: $658!. Or Jay''s Bridal, they will match the lowest price you can find online.

Orrrrrr, I need to get the nice lady at the shop to sell it to me for $600. Has it seriously been sitting there since 2005? I may get this dress. At least, I wouldn''t have to pay expedite charges, right? It was dreamy.

Now, mantilla or no mantilla with this dress. Same question for the Alfred Angelo, really?

Gypsy - Are you wearing a veil? Mantilla? None of the above?

I'm not wearing an Mantilla. My dress as the loveliest train edge and I didn't want to compete with it. Plus I can't wear a catherdral veil as I would have wanted to if I was wearing a completely lace edged veil. Grandpa might run over it in his scooter... and I don't really relish the thought of that thing being ripped off my head as I'm walking down the aisle.

I'm did order a veil, it's a custom length cascade shaped single layer veil just past fingertip with a pencil edge. Now, I have one waiting at the post office with a rippled edge and I'm thinking it's all wrong so I'm probably going to order another one without a rippled edge this week. Which means whoever buys my Rivini is going to get a rippled edge veil thrown in for free.

EITHER WAY. I am going to have small lace appliques added to the plain pencil edge veil along the edge at spaced intervals. The appliques on my skirt are spotty, so I thought it would be a nice way to have the lace accent on the veil, not take away from the dress, or compete with the train, and tie in to the style of the dress.

I DID want a mantilla though. And my Future cousin has a GORGEOUS one I would have borrowed. Alas, having grandpa walk me down the aisle means more.

You''re funny! That''s so nice that your Grandpa is walking you down the aisle.

Where did you order your veil from? I''ve seen some lovely mantillas on ebay, but I am trying to take a break from there.

You have a seamstress that will do the appliques for you?

Oh, yeah definitely try that first! Now you can at least go in armed with a price range to shoot for. Good luck!

I''m thrilled he''s riding the scooter down the aisle next to me.

I ordered my veil at obridal.com I''ll let you know what I think of it when I get it.

Yes, the seamstress that I''ve engaged to do my dress alterations will add the appliques (probably the leftovers from my dress as I''m re-designing the top) to my veil for me. If not, I''ll do them by hand myself.

BEST of luck negotiating the price of that dress down. DO NOT look desperate or let her know you love it, or are in a rush or anything. Mention you have a lovely option you are at teh point of ordering, but since you believe in patronizing local, independant vendors, you thought you''d see what she could do for you.

Just a quick update on my, ehr, situation. I''ve got all of the ladies at work today scouring the Alfred Angelo site. I''ve located the AA 1669 on ebay, but have some questions to the seller. It doesn''t look like the same dress. It would be very inexpensive. I''ve been holding back from just hitting the buy-it-now button!

I''ve called a seamstress and was going to see about changing the bodice of my current dress to a matching lace. Not sure how possible that is though, or how it would look, more importantly. She can''t see me until Friday after work.

On Thursday night, I have an appointment with the salon that has the Casablanca in my size.

Tonight, I am going to a nearby shop that carries Alfred Angelo, with samples in my size range. They also seem to be prom dress headquarters and it is prom season. Whoa is me.

Hopefully, they will have lots to choose from!!

Ladies, just wait til I start looking for shoes. I will not buy more than one pair, and since I will only wear them once, they will be super-super cheap! I just hope my dress OCD tendencies don''t transfer over to footwear!

Loves Vintage, I have been following your quest for a dress and I have a beautiful lace dress, brand new, never worn that I bought for my..... uhhhhhh..... *previous engagement*.. *whispers*, and it is literally just sitting at my house with nothing to do and no one to love....

It is a size 14, and has a mermaid/trumpet feel to it, but certainly is not snug.. kinda like a modified a line really.

I am street 12, there have been no alterations or anything done to the dress and if you are interested at all in it, I would certainly ship it to you.

You can HAVE the dress, just pay for shipping....

Lemme see if I can find a picture of it...

I have to have it somewhere on my computer....

Gimme a sec !

LovesVintage,

I will absolutely do that !!!!!!!

The pics *may* be of me in the dress because I cannot find the one''s I had on the mannequin ANYWHERE, however, I promise to be SUPER careful !!!!

It is sooo pretty.... I loved it and that is likely why i never got rid of it... I still look at it every once in a while.

It would be so awesome if it would work for you..

I will send you photos tonight.. I''m at work right now, but promise to as soon as I get home..

I''ll try to attach a pic from the designer of a very SIMILAR dress.. just ignaore the lace jacket on the attached pic... The dress I have has thin spagetti straps that you can wear if you want or go strapless...

Let me see if I can attach it....

Dang !!!!! I think it might have worked !!!!!!!

The bottom is more mermaid/trumpet than this one, but you get the general idea !

Ohhhh, and mine is a *snitch* more FANCY than this one....
20.gif

But not too much !!!!

Okay, I''ll just send pics of the ACTUAL dress....

Before I get too carried away !!!!

Ohhhhhhhh, that''s a pic of a Jessica McClintock, no? It''s a very pretty dress. Yes, it would be amazing if it would work out, wouldn''t it? I can''t wait to see your pictures. Can you do me a favor and take down my e-mail address? I don''t know if there''s a policy against that. I was about to look it up, and then someone from my office came in to congratulate me on my engagement (she''s from a different area, so she''s just hearing the news) and she proceeded to tell me the details of her divorce and how you never really know someone.
41.gif
Not really what I wanted to hear!

You will be my SUPERHERO if this works out!!!
36.gif

Ahhhhh !!!!!!!

I have NO CLUE how to take down an email addy.. I did write it down, so I wonder can you delete that post ????

I know there is some kind of regulation against it... they usually delete it right away.. the Admins...

*looks around*

I hope it doesn''t cause you any problems !!!!

The lady that stopped by to Congratulate you certainly sounded interesting !!!! I can''t imagine someone saying that !!!!!! I would be SPEECHLESS !!!!!!

I''m sensing she may be a tad bitter..... :)

I really hope my dress works for you.... you''ve had such a struggle with the whole "dress issue" and I completely understand and can appreciate what you are going through... If I can help i any way I''d be more than happy to...

I wish I could send you the pics NOW !!!

LV,

I just sent you an email about my dress. It was 1669 from AA. I would be willing to part with it. Here is the back. It was altered to add a single-point bustle and loops around all of the buttons on the back (made it look more "finished"). How tall are you?

Ohhh, miscommunication! I was actually asking if you would write it down, in case it was in violation of some policy to post it on here. I know that you can't pm on here, so there might be a rule against it . . . I haven't been able to find the rules yet. I hope it's not a problem?

The dress drama actually started quite a bit earlier. I did visit a Jessica McClintock store in NY state, but they did not have anything to try in the larger sizes. That is a very pretty dress that you posted, but I'd probably be looking for a privacy panel of sorts!!
23.gif

I'll be happy to look at the pics of your dress!! It will not fit in the size 14, but perhaps my new seamstress will have some ideas. I don't know if I mentioned, but one of the stores I went to yesterday had suggested inserting panels on the sides for a sleeveless size 12 they had.

Thank you again for your very kindly trying to help me! You are very sweet!
