This is stunning! Congratulations.

Gorgeous! The center stone looks like a beautiful flower growing out of a garden. :) Congratulations!

That is so, so pretty! I love the little flowers on the side. Congratulations on your engagement!

What will you do for your wedding rings? Will you do a complete set or mix and match styles?

So pretty, I love it

I like that the ring is a classic solitaire with a twist. More pictures later.

For the wedding band, I would like to get another VC. We'll see. I was thinking of 917 like Poptart's or something a little different like 929. Maybe 910? I am not there yet
2.gif
. Hmmmmm...does anyone have pictures of 910 or 929 in real life?

Very pretty, great job! I''m a fan of the fleur-de-lys head as well :)

Make sure to post your photos in the "show me some VC" thead!

Gorgeous, congrats!

Very lovely!

Oops! Forgive me Kimi, I almost missed this. Well, I would like a VC wedding band to go with my ering. Which one, though, is still up in the air. The candidates, at present, include 917, 929 or possibly 910.

So, I have a question, do most get their wedding band right away? I was thinking of waiting until we had a date and were a few months away from it. Otherwise, I think I might get desensitized to the band.

edl-- Thanks for reminding me. I have been remiss. Sooo, any cool new VC pics to share?

Magnificent! The beauty is in the details.

The 910 is a nice complement to the flowers/scrolls in your e-ring. Have you seen the design on the right? It''s a little busier than the 3 that you liked. My favorites, for your ring, are the 910 and the 917.

Hmm...as far as wedding bands go -- I think the advice to order them at least 8 weeks before your wedding. If you cut it too close, they might not be there on time. (And this is just general advice, not specific to VC.) I''ve known people who bought the full set right away, and I''ve known girls who took a few months to shop. It depends on your personality, as a shopper. I tried on all kinds of rings, with and w/o my ering, b/c I wanted to see all the different styles. You might have a pretty good sense of what you want -- then it wouldn''t be necessary to shop around as much. I would probably base my timeline on (1) your schedule and whether you''re a planner or a last-minute type and (2) your finances (can you afford the purchase right now or would you rather wait). Sometimes it helps -- when planning a wedding -- to set rolling "deadlines" for wedding-related payments. It can be tough, emotionally and financially, when your vendors all show up at your doorstep with invoices. I know that kind of takes the "romance" out of shopping! But weddings are complex, in terms of finances and logistics, and it''s something to keep in mind.

You could get all three and stack ''em ;)

Kimi,
Tell me more about this blog! I am fascinated since I always want to see more VC pieces. They are just so fabulous. I mean, look at the pearl earrings in one of the other posts. They are simply beautiful.

I have seen the ering version of the piece you suggested in platinum. The detail is incredible, but I want to see some more. However, I do like the idea of having a band with flower detailing to compliment the flowers in my ering.

I am attaching a picture of 812.

Hey AnitaT!

My understanding is that the blog is there to showcase pieces that simply don''t belong on the website -- they''re one-offs or custom pieces that Larry made for customers. These pieces usually don''t get a lot of exposure, but it''s fun to see them, and it helps people see a different side of the company. If you''ve been to the VC workshop you''ve probably seen some of the special projects. When I visited a while back he was working on a pendant inspired by Napa Valley -- it had beautifully sculpted grape leaves and a nice fat clump of grapes. I think it was supposed to go on a collar (not for a doggie -- one of those rigid metal necklaces that were popular in the 40s and 50s).

I will look in my files to see if I have a photo of the 812''s mate, but I think I just have the same stock photo that was on Micky Roof''s site, which shows the wedding set but isn''t particularly detailed. With your piece, it would be very classic to either pick up on the flower motif or the scroll motif. Do you like the tiny blossoms in 812? I think what you need = a handshot. For me those are absolutely crucial. I know EDL is headed back to VC -- you should put in a few handshot requests. I''m sure his lovely FI will oblige.

This is a weird thing to say, but I''d like to eat those pearl earrings.

Kimi,
Those pearl earrings are beautiful, so I understand what you''re saying.

It is a dream of mine to visit the VC factory. I bet there are a lot of amazing pieces in addition to the ones we see on the website. Basically, I would be a kid with sweet tooth let loose in a candy shop.

Regarding the band, I would like to find something with both blossom detailing and milgrain around the edges....like tweaking 929 a little. 917 looks pretty close to what I am interested in, but I would like to see another picture of it.

Gorgeous, we need more pics please!

Gorgeous! You''re a lucky girl!

I agree! More pics! I just love the floral feminity of the VC settings!! BEAUTIFUL!!!

I have this studio photo of 917...

Does that help?

vc917wband.jpg

oh man, that''s huge AND grainy.

I''m so sorry

Kimi,
No worries, this is a great shot. It is very helpful. My ering has a tiny diamond in the center of the flower detailing on either side. Hmmmm...I think adding a little diamond in the flower detailing of 917 might give it some tasteful bling
31.gif
. Yes, I think I will let that percolate some...but I do like the idea right now
9.gif
Thanks for helping me out Kimi.

And, I will see what I can do about getting some more shots.

AnitaT,

The 917 comes w/ or w/o little tiny diamonds set into the flowers! I know because it was a ring that I considered for my wedding band, and they brought me both versions. it is really sweet with the tiny stones.

kimi

Well, how about that?!
21.gif
Tell me more if you don''t mind. What did you like, what did you like less, what stood out to you etc.

BTW, I have been checking the VC blog regularly since learning about it and there is this beautiful new leaf pendant that is just amazing.

I feel like calling Larry and saying "more please."

If you scroll back up and look at the photo of 917, you''ll see that there are little "holes" at the centers of the flowers. The little tiny diamonds go there! So they''re definitely scattered across the band and not set close together, like the ones w/ the 5 stones across the middle.

I heard that Larry just made up a ring with an opal center, but have not seen it (or photos) at all. Maybe Love in Bloom knows about it...?

Anyway -- back to your Q''s about wedding bands:

This one (
http://www.clay-pot.com/cpw_detail_CPW14297__1200wedding__van_craeynest_antique_diamond_band.html) was one of my favorites. It comes also w/ square cut emeralds or rubies.

This set (http://www.clay-pot.com/cpw_detail_CPW12087__1200wedding__van_craeynest_antique_style_wedding_band.html) was the set that I wore for a while -- from the one that didn''t work. I didn''t know about PS at the time and couldn''t tell you details about the center stone, but it was the 2-tone version (18K and plat). I really like the relief & modelling in the larger flowers/details.

Pieces like the 917 and 912 are really very delicate and you almost need a loupe to see the flowers. From far away it looks like fine engraving. Up close you can see that there''s more plasticity to the form. If you run a search on my name you can see my current e-ring. It is not a VC, it was custom made by a local artist. The engraving there is more typical of hand engraving -- shallower, and the cuts are more obvious. The VC style is more plastic and has fewer hard edges.

I didn''t like this style as much http://www.clay-pot.com/cpw_detail_CPW3620__1200wedding__van_craeynest_classic_diamond_band.html b/c the height of the band and the flattened center area didn''t flatter my hand. I have small hands and I''m very petite. The proportions on those pieces didn''t "feel" right to me.

I was very surprised by the ornate pieces, like this one: http://bridal.tinyjewelbox.com/bridal/engagement_gallery/designers/item_van.asp?id=6

They seem like they would be heavy...but they aren''t. They have matching curved wedding bands that are really pretty.

I liked all of your choices. I think it comes down to the sort of feeling that you want from your ring. The wider ones have more presence. 917 and 912 are both more fragile/delicate in feeling, and the designs go all the way around, which means that if your ring spins, no harm done.

One ring worth mentioning is the eternity band. It is in the PDF catalog, p.3. Not many folks have seen it in person. It''s very lacy in feeling. I like it b/c it''s really strong and can be worn on its own. Also b/c VC doesn''t do many eternities, so I think that makes it unusual. I don''t think it''s what you''re looking for, but it''s good eye candy!

The VC mounts are like miniature works of art. I just love them!! It''s so beautiful, and Congratulations on your engagement!! Enjoy!
