Engagement ring (4-5ct) -- Emerald or Elongated Antique Cushion

If this is going to be a ‘forever ring, never trade up, die with it‘ deal - I’d go for an an emerald cut. They never really peak, go over the top in popularity but are NEVER out of fashion, they’re timeless.

I thought this one as promising too! I haven’t reached out abt it. I found very hard to judge emerald without seeing in person. All videos look fine but you really don’t get a feel of the scintillation…thx

I feel like emerald cuts - or all fancies in general - should be bought by eye. I suppose you could order and return a stone if it doesn’t work for you but this is a significant amount of money to spend so you don’t want to have to rely on returning it.

Have you considered hiring a concierge service or something?

To be honest instead of the shotgun approach I would contact a vendor in the NYC diamond district and make them work for your business by pulling stones that might be suitable in and ASET and video images for the top 3 or 4.
They can not work on as tight of margins as some of the drop shippers but your getting a lot more also.

@Karl_K How does this one look? More like a mirror and flat, but I dig those white scintillation patter!

Also, I currently have Kwiat searching for some stone for me in addition to my own effort... Thanks again!

looks like a huge table with little crown height result its not very flashy.

Does it consider a bad cut or just a different look? Thanks.

You mentioned your ring has a huge spread so I wonder if a 4 carat stone going to look much larger than yours. I would hate for you to spend a that money and not feel like it was much different than your current (beautiful) ring

Do you think it is promising? @EClove this one will appear to be 33% bigger than mine! lol @Karl_K (sorry keep bugging you)

Maybe this one which will appear to be 11% bigger than mine.

Absolutely love the look of this emerald... any idea of the specs I should be looking for? lol

5.01 has real bad p3 issues.
4.01 is a bit inconclusive, the way the video is taken and lighting sux, but the crown height is very low which is not a good sign.

How can you tell a crown height with what's presented in a generic GIA certificate? What's an adequate crown height? @Karl_K Can I hire you to look for the stone for me? lol Sorta jking, but I'd like to know what are the specs I should be on the look for?

Thanks again

click on the video to manually spin it then look at the diamond from the side and judge the crown height.

crown height is good and it looks flashy.
depth % is high but in step cuts that does not always mean bad spread. Compare the mm measurements to others.

A few promising ones?

4.02 https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/4.02-carat-e-color-vs1-clarity-sku-12462796 (seems to be very cheap)

@Karl_K This last one is more for learning. The fire seems to be very good but skinny and slower movement because it’s crown is less deep? https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/4.50-carat-f-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-12949523

Get the grading reports and ask for ASET images for the
5.03 G vs1looks good
5.01 e vs2 could be the best stone in this thread based on limited info.

4.50 f vvs2 is a maybe
4.02 evs1 is a maybe

The 4 .50 has a reasonable crown height but in that spin direction is not very lively why its a maybe is that not how it moves on the finger and it might be good when moved that way.
But based on the info available some of the others may be potentially better.

That is why I recommended to have someone pull them in and eyeball them and image the best ones.

Is JA not offering any more information on the stone beyond whats in the GIA report? They dont have anything else to give out...

post the reports...

Last is a new 4.08 G IF Brian G sent across. I have not seen a video yet. (See Report Here)

Like iv said multiple times you need someone to pull these in and narrow it down to a few by actually looking at them.

kewl
let us know how it goes.

Anything I should pay attention to specifically? Thx
look at them in a lot of different lighting and rotate them side to side across the small sides. Like its on your finger and your rotating your hand side to side.

Got a video of this stone! What do you think? Doesn’t look that lively?

Are you sure that is not "director of spamming" who does not read and follow board rules?

Thanks @Karl_K. Is this kind posting new? I was so confused as that’s not even my name!

Anyway, any thought on the 4.08ct video? Thanks.

Doesn’t look that lively?
yep your catching on.

Edit: to give mods less to clean up, spammers and or trade people who do not read the rules here are as old as this board is, It would not surprise me that a spammer joined the second day it was up.
They do not last long.

So, we are new to the forum and were not aware, but thank you for kindly addressing this Karl. Hope you have a truly lovely evening.

Visit Yekutiel at IDJ in NYC! He finds the most beautiful emerald cuts and his prices are great. I didn’t realize how many crappy ECs we were being shown at other (well known) jewelers until we visited IDJ! He made my 4.04 carat EC engagement ring with traps and almost two years later we still can’t rave about IDJ enough!
