I had to come and share this with all of you - as I am so excited and most of the people I see day-to-day wouldn''t get it...
FI and I just got back from 5 days in Italy where we went to find the wine for our wedding. We were staying with a former boss who is a very good friend of mine and her husband.
He is one of the head designers at Roberto Cavalli, and as a surprise had brought up a whole load of fabric samples as he wanted to discuss my dress over the weekend. I hadn''t finalised my fabric yet - was I ever glad.
A lot of the fabrics weren''t really right, but there was a quite strange one that was a white silk warp with a metallic gold weft, the whole fabric was then heat-stamped with a design so it almost looks quilted and looks really three-dimensional and the gold really sparkles when the light catches it. FI loved it straight away, I wasn''t so sure - but it grew on me hugely over the weekend.
The final fabric he brought out was this amazing off-white brocade that was a 1940 Valentino couture fabric that is being revamped and modernised. The sample was in wool and would make the most amazing suit (sadly I''ve only got a metre of it
). I was in love straight away.
We spent a couple of hours making some decisions and he is now having the factory handweave 10m of the white fabric in silk for me for the main skirt, bodice and sleeves and we are either getting the gold fabric as it is, or he is going to have a more simple design stamped onto it (the current one has flowers, leaves and abstract shapes stamped into it) to make the underskirt - which only shows at the front.
I cannot believe that he has offered to do this for me. I wanted tudor with a modern twist, but I never dreamed in a million years that I would get handmade one off fabric. I am so incredibly excited (as is FI strangely) and had to tell someone!
I''ll post some photos as soon as FI has downloaded them, as I''d like some opinions as to whether the gold fabric is too busy or not - and whether you all think it''s just too weird!
