Fragrance of the Day Thread

@Arcadian Apologies, I keep meaning to post an update on the quest for saffron perfume and then forgetting! We had a combo tea party/perfume party where my SIL tried all the options on herself (hilariously funny to see, we had her skin labeled in eyeliner so we could identify the scents later). Her favorite was Comme Des Garcons' Daphne by a mile. It smelled good in the vial and downright heavenly on her skin. Tracking down a full bottle was an ordeal and a half but totally worth the effort. SIL loooves the scent  Thanks for all your help. The project turned out beautifully :kiss2:

@windblownhair Im glad your sister in law found a scent that resonated. And Daphne is just Gorgeous frankly :kiss2: I get why she gravitated to it.

Tonight I'm wearing a classic; Caron Tabac Blonde. My first experience with this scent was probably 2004. This of course the "modern" version, and I really loved it. I bought direct from the urn quite a large bottle. I was in Manhattan for some conference at the time.

Fast forward and I still have some of this bottle left. I never really liked the vintage, which for me was too musty smokey/powdery/sour. the modern version for me its just amazing as it has a freshness about it and that carnation is just really special here. Some feel they killed it, but don't think so, at least not from the 2004 batch.

Today is a bit cooler. not by much but a bit. also a little dryer which is good. So today I pulled out my decant of Ginestet Botrytis given to me by a fragranista friend.... Ah yes the noble rot! its fruits drenched in honey, very much like Mead. There's a slight mustiness from the patchouli, and interesting, the quince adds a small amount of citrus that isn't terribly over the top.

Stages of this perfume put in mind Parfum DelRae Bois de Paradise, the fruitiness and kind of interesting fizziness and the woods. The only thing missing really is the rose and smoked wood backbone of BdP. But they're actually enough alike that you only need one.

Tonight I'm wearing Cartier Declaration d'Un Soir. This is from the male side of the aisle but I absolutely j'adore it! Rose/cardamom fragrances are so lovely to me, and this one has a side order of pepper and sandalwood...delish. And for once, caraway doesn't give off "pickle" notes. For that guy (or girl) that solidly loves roses.

Today its cooler, so I'm wearing Mona di Orio Vanille.

Arcadian, Yesterday I ordered a sample of Costume National Scent Intense based on your kind recommendation. Will let you know when it arrives and I try it. Very excited. I still haven't been home to receive the original Lucky Scent samples I ordered a few weeks ago so I will have a lot of perfume to try next week since my order yesterday included 10 more samples LOL.

Thank you Arcadian for your recommendations.

@ missy glad! can't wait to hear your thoughts.

I don't know if you like roses but, Cartier Declaration d'Un Soir (and its intense version) are really excellent. I personally don't think they read male (more unisex)

Another I used to wear for the hell of it was Aramis (mens), but he HATED it because his father also wore it. He once told me there's just something wrong with trying to get it on which a chick that smells like your old man....:lol-2:

I'm rediscovering all my fall favorites.I love this. Every new season, when I reach for scents that were mostly unworn it's like rediscovering old friends. In summer I often think how stunningly beautiful a floral or citrus is.
In autumn I love the more comforting side of my favourites.

Today:
Tom Ford Black Orchid Voile de fleur. No wonder I love this: huge gardenia, honeysuckle and jasmin. On a comforting and slightly earthy/leathery/vanilla base...

The sparkling citrusy top notes are beginning to turn in my bottle, so I'll use it up, while it's still glorious.

Why did they discontinue that one???

Today I'm wearing L de Lolita Lempicka in pure parfum. Someone described it as the top of a Creme Brulee and they are not wrong. Now long discontinued but I managed to find a bottle for a penny under 30 bucks at TJ maxx. I have L de Lolita in edp which I adore and wear at drier times of the year. This is really quite strong though. I will have to reserve for a much cooler day than this.

Today I'm wearing Caron Tubereuse I kinda feel like I should have worn something more exciting...lol (there's always later ;)2)

Tested Chanel Gabrielle - Should have known better.... it is an inoffensive office floral to me and I find the comments that say it's a cousin to Coco Mademoiselle quite correct.
It lacks CM's huge sugary screechy top notes though (which I LOATHE sorry , no offense to the many fans out there), so that was big plus for me. It's still quite nice / fresh/floral on my scarf, but on skin lasting power was 2 hours... after that only a faint powdery smell.
Not a scrubber , but expected more from Chanel...would consider giving it to a 16 y o. For classy - girly-perfume that's hard to really overapply on skin;-)
Spent my day wishing I had worn Hermes cuir d'ange....

Ill search for this. I am a rose girl.

Like you I didn't mind Gabrielle. But it just doesn't really scream "Chanel" to me,, its totally missing that very thing that makes it a chanel in its DNA. But, they were after something that would be well liked. Meh, Honestly I still don't feel it tops CM. I do on the other hand LOVE CM but I also have a much older version in which a squirt will do you and it will last for 30 hours... basically, what is out on shelves now is a shell of its former self, but it screamed CHANEL from miles away...lol

I switched from Caron (which I love but lets face it, that one is not the most exciting to wear) to Chanel Cormandel. This one is the pure parfum which is DIVINE! :kiss2: Slightly arid and earthy, with white chocolate wisps and a dab of vanilla. A really lovely and refined patchouli. The hippie grew up to drive a Mercedes!!:appl:

Arcadian, could you suggest a new fragrance for me? I love Givenchy Indecence but it gets harder to find so I have been rotating it with a vintage Ange ou Demon le Secret (which doesn't last nearly long enough on me). Could you suggest a perfume similar to Indecence? Thank you for your advice and I really enjoy this thread.

Gosh, I'm so sorry your favorite is so hard to find. That happened to me with Fendi. I'm kinda glad though because it make me explore a few other sides of perfume I didn't know existed.

So I had to really do some thinking because thats a line I'm light on memory of, but I think I found a few that might be worth sampling;

On the higher end, you might want to try Serge Lutens Feminite du Bois
This is a fruitier perfume with the added spices, and probably a very close kin to your fav. Has those lovely plummy notes of Indecence, but the wood will be different. Spice will be there but restrained. Allows it to be more all around and not too heavy.

Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan. I'm mentioning because its a really spectacular amber; its got spice, vanilla, but its a green amber though, so a slight deviation without any fruitiness, but still worth trying. I love the smell of bay leaves with vanilla and it does justice here. You also get angelica which is not heavy but again, I love the smell so I love the whiffs here. I'd wear this more often if it weren't so darn humid down here...lol

On the natural side of the house, April Organics Bohemian Spice. I found it a little clove heavy, it reminded me more of say old version of Chanel Coco (and if you love it, you'll like this one too) I don't recall this one having ANY fruit though.

Frederic Malle Le Parfum de Therese. This fits the fruit, but no spice. You get the bite of moss and leather instead. Its also got melon so you MUST love it because you can't get away from it (plum is present but melon much more so) I love this one and feel it may be worth trying as a just because;)2 It will NOT meet the entire bill though because it lacks the spice and vanilla (if you really want that, skip this one).

Mid Pack is Christian Dior Dolce Vita. Again you got some of the lovely pieces you'd want, except in place of plums you have coconut and cardamom.

On the lower end, Chopard Cashmir might also come close though IMO I found it to be pretty fruity some days... but down here it makes some sense because that humidity really amps it up. In cooler weather the fruit dies down on me and its a beautiful creamy spiced vanilla. Smells great but cheap as chips though!! Can be found on overstock for cheap (totally worth trying if you can for sure!)

Lalique LeParfum.
This is another which is a spiced vanilla, no fruit, but you get powdery almonds. Oh and that bay is so beautiful! A cheapie that really isn't but can be found on overstock for next to nothing.

Another that I want to mention is Fragronard Grain de Soleil. No fruit AT ALL here but it shares that very creamy vanilla top of your fav. I didn't find it spicy though.

Unfortunately none of them will be direct dupes but this might get you started.

Yesterday I got a package of decants from Aquolina's "Sugar" line thanks to a very lovely perfumista. I had smelled good ol fashioned pink sugar and wasn't in love with it. But I got some that I had never smmelled before.

Today I'm wearing Aquolina Black Sugar. VERY unusual and not some big ol sweet candylike thing. I legit kinda like it! Notes are Amber, Oud, Myrrh, leather, vanilla, raspberry. I think....lol Not the usual stuff.

Here's what else I got in the package:
Blue Sugar is discontinued but was the mens version of the flagship of this line. May as well been female, smells VERY sweet! That stuff is like wearing a cake.

Steel Sugar is kinda nice. This is from the mans side of the aisle. This has gingerbread accord and tobacco, and lavender. primarily manly but a woman could wear it if she wanted. Its not terribly sweet which for me is a plus. But yah if you're looking for sugar, you won't find it here.

Gold Sugar
is like custard. I mean REALLY like you spilled custard on yourself! I think I'd have to be in the mood for something like this. I wasn't terribly thrilled but it might smell better when its cooler.

Chocolovers, which is discontinued, smelled like someone took a spoonful of nutella, and wrapped it in sweetened hot chocolate. I have better smelling chocolate perfumes on hand which aren't a sugar bath.

Funny, it's exactly this missing Chanel base in Gabrielle... esp. with that name.. the much bashed LE soft florals Gardenia and Beige are quite mainstream- pleasing too, yet totally CHANEL to me.

Love Coromandel, but need to try the extrait.
Last time I totally selflessly bought the 250 ml vat for hubby .... but this was pre -reformulation ... too afraid to try the new version.

I have 1/2 CM edp bottle from before reformulation.. still can't do that sugar note...

I'd happily mail it to you if possible (mail regulation re. perfume are pretty strict to the U.S., I think)

so after the shower I went DEEP into the vault. I love going to the back of the perfume closet sometimes. I pulled out my half used bell jar of Chene. This is a Parlaise Royal version, not current. I hate to admit but I truly covet this version because its so hard to get anymore. When I wear it, its always to bed, its a very personal scent.

I'm by all intents and purposes an Oriental/floral girl, but this one has just stolen my heart. this is WOOD in the most major way, and not my usual type but its magical to me. I always have fantastic dreams when I wear this, and with all the stress of the last 2 weeks, necessary.

Today I'm wearing Histoires de Pafumes 1804 (George Sand) I'm liking this one more than I did before, Its very fruity, the pineapple is unmistakeable, but I think now its a cooler day and its very very nice!

I got a "set" of the 15ml bottles (1804, 1969, 1826, 1873, and waiting on one more) I like that they match history with the scents. Probably not in a way I would, but I can sometimes understand their reasoning.

George Sand, was a female writer, was born in 1804. She had a very interesting life, considering she wrote under a male pen name, had affairs (while married no less!!) and all sorts of other things I won't go into. but you can read the tame version here https://www.britannica.com/biography/George-Sand

The perfume to me has a male and female side. Its sweet, but ever so often you get "male" smell...lol The good is that though I consider it a bit strong (its a grower) it never smells "nasty". If oversprayed it can be a bit stomach turning on account of that strong pineapple/jasmine/amber-chouli combo. Still, there's something very fresh about this combination. I'm sure its some aromachemical added to it to give a fresh feel to the whole thing, but I don't exactly know what that is at the moment.

Obviously I needed to buy these 15ml bottles like I needed a whole in my head...lol but I find them to be a good way to explore the line without going broke. I wish they had all of them in this format.

So a couple of times a year I send perfumes to my nieces. (basically a big ol box to my mom and she has them come over to pick what they want)

I'm embarrassed to say this last time I sent 20. yah 2-0:eek2: :eek2:

they're mostly poor college kids so they appreciate it. but still...:eek2::rolleyes2:

Tonight I'm wearing Comme des Grcons Sherbert Series 5: rhubarb. I like it, but have to be in the mood for it. maybe because its really on the sweeter side. Today was a really craptastic day, and having ha dto take the dog to the vet for a cleaning, I'm frazzled and this fit the bill. She likes this one anyway :mrgreen2:

Today I'm wearing Histiores de Parfums 1969 Parfum de Revolte. The notes I smell the most are chocolate and cardamom, followed by peach and rose. Very lush on a day like this. Peach, rose, cardomom and chocolate (and not in that order!) This is a house that the scents tend to grow like crazy and this is no exception. My itty bitty bottle will last me forever...lol

Dior j'adore touche de parfum for me...mhhh... this one has nothingin common with the last(to my nose slightly screechy)version of j'adore in it's xth reformulation.
It's an extrait-strength perfume oil and supposed to be worn on sking only. Either alone or as a base to give depth to other florals.
I love this. Its JASMIN (yes, all capital letters) and green tuberose. Later touches of sandalwood and sometime a sweeter vanillic warmth in the base , but it maintains the jasmin right to the end... I'm very Impressed by the overall quality, lasting power and even sillage.

I usually wear it solo, but experimented a bit this weekend and wore it on skin and then sprayed one spray of Chanel Beige (yesterday)and Chanel Gardenia (today). Both worked beautifully... I'm very impressed.

On a side note, I actually prefer this to the two Jasmine perfumes from their collection privee line (Grand Bal and Jasmin).

Today I'm wearing CognoScenti No1. I got this pack (no 1-5) it feels like a million years ago, and sometimes I go back go back to it to see if I get anything different.

Though EDP they wear more like oils. They kinda smell like a cross between essential oils and a room spray. Still , its an interesting mix. Today its rainy and humid, not terribly hot. I get more bergamont, sage and teak today.

Today I'm on the worse kind of deadline. Get it done by midnight type of deadline....:cry2::rolleyes2: So no smelly acrobatics(:lol-2:) so wearing Cerruti 1881 Edition Blanc. My brain is kind of melting... I called peanut butter "that brown stuff"

I met one deadline and got another. This is unfortunately a crazy time of year for me.

Today I'm wearing Kiehl's Vanilla Cedarwood. This is a non sweet perfume. The vanilla is more podlike, and the cedarwood I find to be really calming there's something tart in here (bergamont maybe?) but not too much.. just enough to make a person notice.

Lasting power is maybe 4-6 hours, depending on the type of day it is. Its cool today so I can still smell it.

The 30ml is still available on Keihl's.com but no longer in store (such a shame!)

I met one deadline and got another. This is unfortunately a crazy time of year for me.

I need some of that potion you are having ... Mine have stopped working - so have I.

... yes, it is crazy here - not the most work-laden part of the year, rather of the decade !

Huge breakthrough moment! WHOOOSAH! this is where application development feels rewarding. So, today to celebrate I'm wearing Amouage Interlude. I didn't always like the kiwi note but it just works down here. Its quite humid as we've had nothing but rain for days, and this of course makes that particular note expand...a lot!

Today I'm wearing Amouage Beloved. its kind of embarrassing when I look at how much is used and when I got it. Its my defense, it is really really strong. I can only wear a squirt or 2 at a time, and it lasts for like...ever...lol

I'm crazy about Elizabeth and James Nirvana Amethyst right now. Just ordered a slightly used bottle on Ebay and can hardly wait to get it.
