GIA VS1 but a bruise and a cavity? Would that be a no go?

Do they have a website? There should be a return policy for their store there. You should be able to negotiate price better if you are dealing directly with them, but under no circumstances would I do it without a long enough return period to have an appraiser look at it. I think it has promise, too, but I can't tell enough from these pictures to say it's worth buying especially without having an expert check out the clarity issues.

They do have a website but it is a bit clunky and it's one where when you look at their items it says "view on ebay".

Did you get to see it in person? I guess my question is if the proportions are ideal, does that automatically mean that the facet pattern should be crisp? That’s what concerns me. I will inquire about returns with them.

I did not see it in person, but I believe the facet patterns will be crisp.

I think the stone has good potential. But, I agree, the photos are not great and the ring looks maybe dirty. What would you do with the sides if you just want a solitaire though? Is this more cost effective than a non three stone?

Hmm. It is irritating that it’s dirty. They should at least be able to provide a reasonable video?

I’m in Chicago. Not sure who the vendor is, though. The only storefront + eBay duo I know of is Ivy & Rose…

If it’s in the city proper maybe I could inspect in person this Sunday? If it’s the burbs, I don’t think I could. Not sure if that’s helpful…

But if you can return, I’d want to see this in person for myself!

It’s in Palatine, IL so not in Chicago proper. Exquisite Jewelers. At first I didn’t want to say the name for fear of lurkers, but as I don’t think I’m nearing pulling the trigger or anything I figured why not.

Oh bummer, that’s quite far from me! Sorry (I don’t drive, hence the impossibility!)

I do agree with others that I think this diamond looks like it could be gorgeous in real life. I think it’s dirty, and they aren’t taking the most helpful photos. If they have good returns, might be nice to at least look

The price point seems pretty good to me and is competitive with solitaires of similar size. But again can’t see the faceting. I would probably hoard the sides for a future project haha.

No worries and it is a kind offer even if it were in the city!

I used to live in palatine! All my local friends have since moved though. It looks like a beautiful stone. Any luck yet?

No luck yet. I feel really hesitant to pay 16 + for a ring just to look at it even if they have returns. It just feels weird to me. The fact that I cannot clearly see the pattern is a bummer. I find that I am attracted to facet patterns that have more of a blocky look, kind of like this one:

But I can't tell from this stone. In any case I need to just be more patient than I normally am. I had planned to pull the trigger on a ring that got away, so that is why I have been looking for something with similar specs.

The stone in the center of the 3-stone has totally different character than the stone you linked on 1st Dibs. The 1st Dibs one isn’t an OEC, as it has a 56% table. That makes it a transitional (and it seems to have a ton of leakage under the table).

Yes I see it is more of a transitional. I like the pattern but I also still really love the pattern of your stone, as well as Missy’s for example. Even though they are not transitionals the faceting is very “tight” for lack of a better word (I should brush up on my terminology). I’ve seen some OECs that have a very disorganized look to the faceting. Sorry if I sound a bit all over the place!!

The word “transitional” is often thrown around haphazardly to describe a badly cut OEC or modern stone, but there are lovely transitionals, too. They have a larger table and lower depth percentage than OECs. I do not agree that there are more badly cut OECs than badly cut transitionals. It’s a good idea to figure out what look you like, and search for that look.

I hesitate to say this, but the diamond you linked on 1st Dibs is *not* a well-cut diamond. Between intense leakage and terrible lack of symmetry, it’s a mess.

Agree with @Tourmaline.

The other photos in the three-stone listing point to a bright and attractive stone. I’m not thrilled with the seller’s followup photos, but I personally wouldn’t be averse to having it shipped out *if* there is a return guarantee. OECs really need to be seen to be chosen!
The 1stDibs stone is a hot mess.

No worries @Tourmaline that is what PS is for. Though I never said there were more badly cut oecs than trannys :)

Gah I am pretty embarrassed. I guess I was saying that the checkered pattern is something I am typically drawn to. Once I am 100% sure that the ring that got away is officially gone (I am waiting just to make sure the transaction went through and buyer isn’t wanting to return etc) I will post that one. I am 99.9% sure it is gone but want to be 100.

Gotcha - an example of faceting not a stone of interest.

So… The one that got away… Sometimes things have a way of working out. Maybe not immediately, but eventually!!
But I really don’t advise buying any stone if your heart belongs to another, it will never be wholly mind-clean for you. Ask me how I know :???:

Hi @Mreader I found this while looking up VS1 and cavities. I bought this ring!

I just now saw this reply! I don't know why I didn't see it before. Anyway as I mentioned I am so excited for you :)

Haha, now I bought it!! But am a little concerned everyone passed it up…. Hopefully it is as beautiful as @Tourmaline thinks it will be! Should be here Monday !

Well I passed bc as I mentioned in the thread I had just missed out on a ring I had my heart set on and so I was indecisive- plus as you see I couldn’t get good photos from the seller!!! @Spring Day ’s pics were WAY better. Both of us ended up w larger stones :). The diamond in this piece is gorgeous I think you’re going to love it.
