Got bad news...

People mean well with all their “stay positive“ advice and comments and platitudes, however, you have a right to feel any range of emotions. Cry, rage, pity party, whatever! A crap sandwich is a crap sandwich. You don’t need the additional pressure to feel or act a certain way. Most people (well meaning of course) have a tendency to say the wrong things. Every cancer is unique and every body is unique. Along with your team of doctors, at some pint talking with a therapist is beneficial.

I rarely post about my health, but I'm feeling kind of shaky and down after getting diagnosed with breast cancer today. I'm worried and really not looking forward to the upcoming months.

I so sorry to read this.Hugs

To give a quick update, I'm scheduled for surgery next week. I have to admit I'm feeling quite apprehensive about what I'll look like after surgery. An MRI showed no additional areas of cancer beyond what the radiologist had already seen, so that's good news, at least.

Thank you so much to everyone for the continued thoughts and good vibes.

We will continue to hold you in our thoughts and prayers Kim. I can imagine the apprehension but I hope that taking that step to ridding yourself of this will overcome the apprehension. Take care and do keep us posted when you can. Big hugs!!!

Sending good thoughts and healing vibes your way @Kim N

Thinking about you dear @Kim N and wishing you all the best. You are such a valuable person. You give excellent advice and are very kind. You are in my prayers for complete recovery.

Prayers continue!!!

I'll be praying too.

Regarding appearance post-surgery, if not a lot of tissue is removed the surgeon can often just manually rearrange the tissues to help normalize the appearance. I had breast surgery in February, a lump of tissue removed for biopsy, and wondered if there would be a divot afterward, but no-- I honestly don't even see a difference.

I wore a zip front sports bra afterward 24/7 for several weeks to reduce jiggling, which can be uncomfortable. Your Dr. may have his/her own recommendations. I liked this one-- true to size and very easy to zip up (some other brands I tried were harder to fasten) and very, very comfy. I bought 2 and still wear them, even though I don't need to any more.

@Kim N I am continuing to send bucketloads of healing vibes your way and keeping you in my thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery and full recovery

They've made such strides with that disease. Don't worry about your appearance, nothing looks better than healthy.

@Kim N Sending you tons of support, healing vibes and warm hugs. (((((XO)))))

Sending you strength and calm as you tackle this next step in your journey to a full recovery.

Sending you strength and volunteering to offer book or tv recommendations if you give me a bit of direction!

The glass castle (book) or Ted Lasso (tv show) would be my top random but great distraction suggestions for you :)

Thank you so much for your kind words. I appreciate you all very much. I'm sorry for those of you who have been through this or had loved ones who did, but glad that you've pulled through.

I keep thinking that I caused it somehow, like if I'd had a better diet I might not have this now. I know it's not helpful to think like that. And it's a treatable disease when caught in time. I'm stressing about both the treatment and the hospital costs. I will be meeting with a surgeon next week.

You didn’t cause it and you couldn’t have prevented it. Please don’t blame yourself. I am rooting for you.
