So John''s cousin''s getting married NYE, and I''ve been waiting for the stores to start stocking their evening gowns and today I might have found a gown. But I thought I''d get your opinions on it. I''m not 100% sold on it but I bought it cause John said it looked nice, it''s silk (and I''m a fabric nut) and it''s got kind of a good grecian feel to it. Plus I thought it would look nice with some gold heels and a gold clutch, and a nice pear drop pendant in gold.

I got it in the Rose color. And I REALLY don''t want to wear yet another black dress to a wedding. But I''m a size 12 and while I''ve been losing weight, I''m still self conscious enough to want the sliming effects of a darker gown. I see on the website that they have it in black, and now I"m wondering if I should get it in black. Here''s the link to the gown:

And I''ll post a couple of pics of me in it in a few. I''m got to get the um neckline altered a bit if I keep it as the um... girls are a little well.. exposed. But what do you guys think? Keeper or can I do better? Or should I consider the black?

Okay. So I''m looking at the pics, and *I* think I look horrid. So I''m fairly sure this puppy is going back... but since I already posted. I''m upload a couple of the pics-- mostly because John STILL thinks the dress is nice. I think it''s entirely the wrong cut for my body. *Shudder*...

Here's the side view. I'm cringing.

Um... can you all help me find a dress? Something... that looks nothing like this. I have a small waist, really I do, not that you can tell from this gown. (I hate my arms)

I'm embarrassed to admit this is what the gown looks like WITH one of those body stocking slimmers on under it.

OKay, first of all? That dress, from the front? Is freaking awesome on your bod. Seriously. But!...You need some serious boobage support - your girls look fabulous in that dress but they need to uplifted just a bit to show them off to their fullest advantage! And...you probably want some underpinnings to suck in the butt and tummy area. Other than that, which is what anyone wearing that dress would want to wear under it, you look fantastic, IMO...Listen to John, sometimes men are actually right!

ETA: I just re read that you had a body slimmer on underneath but did you take the dress with you when you bought the slimmer? If not, go back to a store with the dress and try on underpinnings with the dress...Not all under garments are alike!

ETA2: I envision a lonnnnng drop pendant - something diamondy with white metal, dangling in between the girls. And similar dangly earrings and a matching brooch on the side of the bodice under the boobs...

You think it looks good surfgirl? REALLY? I just feel like I look like I'm oozing out of it EVERYWHERE. I totally agree about the girls needing support, but um... they look like they're oozing into my armpits, don't they?

And I am wearing underpinnings. Maybe a different underpinning might work, but I"m wearing one of those body slimmer tummy tucker things under there... good thing I have two months to get that bulgey tummy down.

I really feel like it looks horrid. But even my MOM thought it looked nice. What am I missing?

I agree with surfgirl, the dress looks great on you and I like the rose color more than the black for this dress on you. If you want to contain your girls better, you could do this simply two ways:

1. Get a broach and twist the "v" at the bustline and pin it down
2. Have a seamstress pin the "v" at the bustline.

Of course, you also need to support them better too.

It sounds like you are still not sold on this dress... I hope you keep it, even if you find a better dress for the wedding.

What surfgirl said! You look amazing in the dress. I think the lower neck and the cut of the dress is quite flattering on you. But you do need some more boobage support. I don''t think that black is going to be the answer if you''re bored of it and always wear it as you said. The rose is a good colour on your skin tone.

I love that dress on you. Yes you need a bit more support up top for the girls but other than that, I think it looks great. I love the rose colour also.

Okay, I''m posting this as another girl who is, let''s say, also very ample on top. My FI loves when I wear dresses that show off the girls, and honestly, if you had better support, your girls would look dynamite in that dress...However, from what you posted you sound like you are not quite comfortable with the amount of cleavage the dress shows off. I''ve done the same thing, where I bought a dress that really showed some cleavage, and even though people assured me it looked good, when I wore the dress I felt uncomfortable the WHOLE night. I kept pulling at the dress, and when I saw pictures of myself from that that, I HATED the way I looked. So even though we all might think you look GREAT, if you do not feel 100% wonderful in it, I think you should try to find something else.

oops, I posted under your double post so I will come over here now. I am LOVING the dress on you, and I agree (like everyone else) with surfgirl. Do you think an alterations person could shorten the straps so that it brings the girls up a bit? I think that would make your bust look nice and rounded. That or maybe those sticky bras everyone always talks about would help with the shaping?

Also, surfgirl is AGAIN right about the slimming garments- I''ve heard different things about so many of them, your best bet is going to be trying a few of them under the dress to see which looks best.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the color on your skin tone though- it is amazing!! I think this was a great find and you should listen to John- he is right that you look amazing!

I ditto all of this, BUT I also wanted to say that if you''re not happy and comfortable in it, you can''t rock it. And you may spend the whole wedding being self-conscious about the dress. Make sure you find something that YOU love on you, and then we''ll check it out for hotness.

I think you have the right idea on the dress, but that particular one isn''t quite right. Based on what you said, here are my thoughts,
you may want to stay away from shine, it tends to show every bump
you want a waist that comes down lower to show how tiny you are on the bottom
you need a little more support up top
You should go with something other than black, you worked hard to get where you are and want to stand out, so color is good.
Here are a few links to things that have the same feel but might be a little more flattering.

GREAT colour, and the fabric looks scrumptious. The pic from the side makes you look hot hot hot. From the front, I definitely think the ''girls'' need a little more support. This coming from another woman who''s ''ample'' in the up-top department.

I love the dress too!!! You just need to give the girls some more support and you are set to go!

I think the front picture looks incredible on you!! The color is beautiful on your skin and I think it looks nice on your body. I don''t think the dress would look better in black, I think you wouold miss out on all of the lovely details of the gown in black. I agree with the others that the only thing you need is some support for your chest. I think this might also help your "comfort factor" in the gown. I feel naked if I don''t have support there. I think the smoothers you are wearing help the sleekness of your shape and are doing what they should be.

IBH... That''s it exactly. More definition at the waist, and nix the shiny fabric as it''s unforgiving. I was thinking exactly that this morning.

You''ve got a quite a few there I like!

I LOVE this one:

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2929476/0~2376776~2374327~2374331~6001837?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=6001837&P=1

And this one though it''s black, I wish it were available in a lovely eggplant: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2891157?refsid=184141&refcat=0%7e2376776%7e2378685%7e2378692%7e2378731&SourceID=&SlotID=1&origin=related

But this one''s style is the closest to what I originally had thought of in my mind!!! I''ve been on the Nordstrom site for DAYS and haven''t seen this one!

I think I''m going to have to take a quick trip down to to the Mall, see if they have either, and if they don''t just order them online to try on!

Any other suggestions are welcome.

I appreciate all the compliments and votes of confidence... but I think that you all are right, if I don''t feel comfortable and sexy and beautiful... no matter what anyone else thinks... I''m not going to be able to carry it off.

I''d love a teal gown georgette or velvet gown, honestly-- but it doesn''t look like that''s in the cards.

Any other suggestions are VERY welcome. You guys are SO fantastic!

I agree with everyone - the color and the dress are both lovely on you, need more support for the girls. I''m also very ample up top and self-conscious about it, and another thing to consider would be to have a seamstress or alterations place tack a little bit of lace or another coordinating fabric at the bottom of the V. I''ve had this done and it works nicely, and looks like its supposed to be there.

I also really liked some of the dresses brazen irish hussy posted - I think 1, 2, or 4 would all look lovely on you, and might address some of the issues with your comfort factor. Maybe go try those on and bring a camera and then you can get a good comparison.

Its definitely true that you won''t be able to rock a dress you''re no comfortable in, but you may not be completely comfortable in anything since it sounds like you''re not so sure about your body right now at all. I completely sympathize, because I''ve been there (and sometimes I''m still there).

Its a beautiful dress and you look beautiful in it, but take the time between now and NYE to explore alternative options, whether different underpinnings, altering the dress for more coverage, and/or trying on different dresses altogether, and see if you can''t find something you are happier with.

I see that you''re already looking around for an alternative. I just wanted to say that while the rose dress is beautiful, it seems less winter and more springtime to me. Maybe something in a jewel tone would be special, slimming, and seasonal.

Here''s a suggestion, except that its black which is what you didn''t want: Dress

Gypsy, you look beautiful in those pictures! I saw the dress first via the link to the Macy''s site (on the model) and feared it would be one that only looks good on a size 0, as some silk gowns do. But it doesn''t look bad at all, and the rose is really a nice color for your skin. If you''re not comfortable, though, the Betsy and Adam dress from the other links is gorgeous.

Gypsy, Ann Taylor has some beautiful special occasions pieces out right now for the holidays. How about this skirt and top? You could then use the pieces to mix and match for other dressy occasions and the red would look great on you!

Here''s the top - I don''t know how to post two pics in the same post

The dress looks great, and I love the color (and yeah, help the girls up a bit). You look good, but if you don''t feel comfortable, then go with something else. Like was mentioned a jewel tone would be very pretty.

I am looking for a dress for my bday when I get my diamond (woohoo

)and I saw that Betsy and Adam dress- it is SO pretty!

Oh wow that red is GORGEOUS!

Gypsy, I agree with everyone else-the dress is great on you! The color and cut are both really nice. Since you don''t feel comfortable, though, it''s a no go!

I think a dress with a slightly lower waist would be great, too-it would give you a nice hourglass shape. However, I do think this empire style is very flattering on you, too, and that cut is definitely easy to find right now.

Have you ever tried Nicole Miller gowns on? They fit so well and the fabrics and colors are always gorgeous! I got an amazing one for the last wedding I went to and I felt awesome all night! And my friend who is a completely different size and shape then me wore one for a bridesmaid dress and she loved it, too!

Here''s one I found on Nordstrom.com in a gorgeous teal color. They also have it in plum and chocolate, but I like the teal! Here''s the web address:

Okay. Went to Valley Fair. Bought two more dresses. Liked them in the store, but now.... I need to lose at least another ten pounds, but I bought them to fit me now. BTW, I LOVE Nordstroms. I say that everytime I shop there, but MAN Macy's has NOTHING on them.

Here's the first gown I bought: It has a wrap that comes with it.

They didn''t have any of the dresses you all posted from the website... so neither of these are dropped waist, which is the most flattering on me I think.

Here''s the other:

I think the olive one does a lot more for you than the first one or the other and it is my vote, you look great!
