Halo vs no halo, larger RB

If it provides any comfort I want to share that I don't think anyone has the perfect ring for all occasions. Meaning there is no one ring that is suitable for everything. Especially because you are a physician working with your hands under sterile conditions. And add the fact we are talking sizable diamonds it just doesn't work 24/7 IMO. I have come to realize I don't think there is just "one". The "perfect one". I don't think it exists. Rather there is the "perfect one" depending on the day, the occasion, how you feel.

I am a ORTRTA type of girl and even I have more than one ring lol. In fact, since the pandemic, I have worn my Enso bands more than any other ring. Truth. It is just easier to wear when disinfecting 24/7 and working with one's hands. I love my ER but it's not for constant wear. At least for me. Of course we are all different but I feel from reading your posts over the years we are similar in wearing our diamonds.

What I love about a halo. It protects our diamond better than a solitaire. And I am a klutz so wearing my old cut necessities some protection. From me lol. And yes it adds sizable presence. I also feel it can enhance the beauty of the diamond by emphasizing its facets. I have gone back and forth thinking solitaire to halo to solitaire. I still haven't decided lol.

This is what I do know.

Leon is a master artist at what he does.
I have no doubt it will be a work of art.
I believe you will be over the moon with it.
I know you will love wearing it.
When it suits you.
I think your DH will understand (eventually).
And safety (and comfort) always comes before anything else IMO.

Also, and IMO this is a biggie, when we don't wear our ring all the time we appreciate it more when we do wear it.
Wearing it all the time might desensitize us to its beauty but when we take occasional breaks and then put it on, wow. It seems that much more gorgeous and we appreciate it and love it that much more. At least this is my experience.

I need to adjust my thinking to that most likely ….

The more I think about it.. the more impractical I realize it is. For all intents and purposes… I don’t go anywhere. Maybe dinner 1X per 2 weeks. Not very social. So this ring is simply not going to get a lot of wear.

I’m a number of wears/ cost kind of person. The more I wear it, the lower the cost, the more sense it makes. Food for thought certainly.

I do have a wedding band. However, it’s much too big and falls off without an engagement ring to hold it. Maybe have that one sized…

But yes, I’ll have to learn to appreciate it when I do wear it, because I don’t really see a way to stop the project… or to part with the ring once done..

If I were you I would get a ring holding pendant like this, to cover all your bases. You can wear your ring on your hand when safe and convenient to do so, and have a safer place to put it than on your scrub ties (I about died with your previous story!). I would tell hubby it's close to my heart when not on my hand.

I think it's so sweet to hear how sentimental your hubby is, and how important it is to him for you to wear something which symbolizes your love for each other.

@allycat0303 I know this is off topic but an anesthesiologist I follow on Instagram (kristinabraly) just created her own scrub line with a little pocket to hold rings. Thought I would share. :)

She’s the one I was watching on YouTube with the humongous pear in Lauren B setting that made me freak out. For some reason it is SO big on her. You have to look !

I know right!? It’s stunning! :kiss2:

Thanks for explaining about your husband's desire for you to wear it every day. I get it now.

I also really relate to the above. I feel the same.

IME it's the setting rather than the size of the stone that is the major limiting factor in comfort.

Could you call Leon and at least find out if putting on hold is an option, while you have some breathing space to work out what you really want?

HI:

You are dealing with top stressors--having moved + new country, new job, and finding a new social circle. No wonder the prospect of a new ring (you really didn't choose) is giving you pause. One day at a time.

And it doesn't matter what everyone else is wearing or thinking--it is how comfortable you are--how you feel.

cheers--Sharon

^^^. What @missy said. 1. Don't watch any more YouTube. 2. Leon has it in progress. DSS is real. So when you get it, no matter what happens or how you feel, give it a chance. The eyes and the brain adjust, even if you don’t want them to. It will shrink down to size, especially if you wear it regularly. And of course don’t forget that you may, and the likelihood is that you will, LOVE it. Leon does NOT make ugly halos. And he is a master of PROPORTION. He can tell you’ve got a big rock. I bet money he will make that halo so super delicate that you will barely see it, just enough to highlight and make your center stone even more stunning. So don’t be out there mentally being ready to sell your beauty when you haven’t even seen her yet. I think this ring will knock your socks off and both you and your DH will love it and you will want to wear it. I am sending you positive vibes. So many of us would give some part of our anatomy for your dilemma (which isn’t even really a thing until you know what you have). Congratulations and I for one cannot wait to see the finished product.

And to add, after reading your posts in detail, whether you wear it every day or not, that is a separate conversation between you and your DH. Be it 3 carat of 5 carats, that is a big diamond to fuss with when you scrub on a daily basis to perform surgery. I can understand why he would love for you to wear it every day, (reduce cost/wear) but if it doesn't make sense based on logistical issues related to your profession, and you are not necessarily comfortable with it, then it makes sense for you two to meet somewhere in the middle. Maybe you wear it on days you are not operating. I assume that would be at least 3 days of the week? Otherwise, I sure hope you're gonna be insuring that ring. And lastly, about that waitress that asked if you guys were going to be paying separately, that was a very presumptuous question to ask, and potentially offensive. And honestly irrelevant to your and your DH's decision about how often youh should wear your ring. Who cares what some rando might think? Do what works for your life. You're the one living it. Best of luck and I think your ring will be stunning.

Just saw this and wanted to reassure you that I’m sure your ring will be gorgeous!

Like everyone else I’m having palpitations at the thought of you tying it to your scrubs. Look into these ring holder necklaces. They are stunning and very secure, and range from simple to ornate depending on your taste. They look good with a ring on them or without a ring on them and are supposedly very popular with HCWs:

Your husband sounds so sweet to want to get you something like this. I hope it is something you love as much as he does. If it is not, I am sure you will be able to have that conversation with him. Hopefully that won’t be an issue. Leon’s work is gorgeous, and diamonds that appear large at first have a way of shrinking down to appear very ordinary.
