Yee Haw -- she is back!!!!!

Renna, I have missed your posts so much. It was your Leon masterpiece that made me realize he had to make my ring.

WELCOME BACK Reena

Everytime someone bumped one of your old threads we all thought, is reena back? and then were sadly dissappointed when it wasn't you
39.gif
It is true there were seveal "where's Reena" posts. I'm glad you made it safely to Ca and congrats on passing the Bar. One of my good friends is a lawyer in LA and I know what a challenge that must of been.
We hope to see more of you around here

and sept 6th will be here before you know it

i just replied in the thread about that lovely ring of yours.. We are SO glad that you are back.. I think that every week someone posted "Whatever happened to Reena?!"

Welcome back Reena. You sure lucked out on picking La Jolla shores to live. The La Jolla area is one of the most beautiful places I''ve ever been. If you haven''t had a chance to go yet, you should go see the view from the Glider Port just south of Torrey Pines Park. My fiance and I would dearly love to move to La Jolla too, but it''s too much of a sticker shock for 2 midwesterners! Instead we are taking our 2 kids on our first "family" vacation to La Jolla Shores over Labor day this September. Enjoy!

reena,
Tell us about your new job and what kind of law you are practicing???

ID--i agree, we just love la jolla! but sticker shock is right!
6.gif
we''re just renting for now, but when we buy there''s no way we''ll be able to stay there.
7.gif
oh well, it''s fun for now!

hi kaleigh, i am still working for a corporate law firm, but the firms out here are somewhat smaller, which is nice. instead of working on all securities law cases, like i did in NYC, i am now focusing almost exclusively on employment law. i like that much better because i like the "human" element, if you know what i mean.

still, i''m really not so sure that being a lawyer is my life''s calling (or even this decade''s calling, to be honest . . .)
2.gif
that all remains to be seen, i suppose.

Reena, small world indeed!!

I''m near Windansea/Big Rock. So glad you are enjoying the Shores--I was actually commenting to my bf a few weeks ago how much I''d like to live there b/c I miss so much the walking-places part of living in NY...and in the Shores you do have that kind of village-y feel
1.gif

And you and IslandDreams are so right--que pricey!!....my parents bought our house in 1976 and certainly wouldn''t be able to afford to buy here now--they were very lucky. My bf rents in downtown LJ and it''s still great bang for the buck compared to our place in NY but....still.

So nice to have you back on PS

exactly! that''s what i keep telling myself . . . it can''t possibly be as bad as NYC.

however, the prospect of buying a house in this market . . .
32.gif
i don''t even want to think about it!

Not happy with Law...Have you considered GIA...???? I was headed to law school and working crazy hours, hating Corporate law silently... so I switched career paths and honestly, could not be a bit happier than now... :)

(just a thought) I''m sorry to recruit so much, but when you love something, you want everyone else to...
9.gif

congrats nicrez! how wonderful to do something that you love. it''s too bad that so few people end up in a job they like. if i wasn''t so totally trapped due to my overwhelming student loan payments, my upcoming wedding and the ridiculous cost of living in southern CA, i would SERIOUSLY consider it.

in truth, i seriously consider a new career every week. not even joking. my latest is being a wedding coordinator. what do you guys think? could i do it?

I''m just curious b/c I too am considering alternate paths...what was/is your job search like? Are you working?

that''s my girl MMM! she-lawyers rebel!

Reena- you become a wedding planner and I'll become a florist! :)

I just wonder where the opportunites are! I don't want to do something where we're a dime a dozen...like in this pathetic field. We need to think. THINK GIRL THINK I like diamonds, eating and spending money. Hmmm, don't think they're hiring in those fields.

I feel like George Costanza....I could be a manager of a baseball team. LOL

i want to be the cake decorator!

........lol!!! no changies!

I am a big fan of Oprah and she had a show on following your passions. My friend from high school was on her show, Vanessa Noel a shoe designer. I say go for your passion, you have one life and why not take a risk. reena you have all that it takes to be a terrific wedding planner. You have the people skills, the organiztional skills and the law to back you up. You would be awesome!!!!
36.gif

(do i still get to be the cake decorator??)

Hi Reena!

Welcome back, its so great to hear from you again! I am glad everything is going well...congrats on passing the bar and making the big move!

I would love to be a wedding coordinator too! You''re right, its so sad, most people are unhappy doing what they do everyday...

reena - I returned your PM- but I don''t know if it worked.. let me know.. okay?

Wow, can you imagine if PSers were turned loose on the bridal industry--especially lawyer PSers like Reena and MMM? The whole price-jacking corrupt industry would implode!! It would be fabulous weddings on an educated-consumer budget! Anarchy!! Cats and Dogs living together....mass hysteria!!

No, seriously, I think following your bliss is GREAT. After college I was a miserable Corporate PR drone for 3 1/2 years before finally getting back to acting...I certainly miss normal salary and benefits, but I don''t miss working until 11 at night and crying in my car as I drove home! If you have a dream, GO FOR IT!!!

(But I also understand re: obligations--I have grad school (and undergrad) loans and can''t NOT have a dayjob.) It''s a catch-22, but I don''t think anyone should waste months and years in a job they consciously HATE.....enduring some time w/ a game plan/exit strategy/brainstorming plan is great, though. One of my best friends does corporate anti-trust and is just marking time, paying down her lawschool loans and mortgage as much as she can so she can open up her own immigration law practice on her own....huge pay cut, but would follow her passion.

Oh, and Reena, knowing how much you researched here on PS to make your dream ring happen--and the way you and your honey pulled up stakes and are flourishing so quickly in a totally different place, I am certain you have the resourcefullness and creativity to be a great wedding planner!

And yes Belle, you can still decorate the cake
