OP, have you had a chance to check on the Henri Daussi on LT?? I would if I were you. There are lots of lurkers and even PS members that may be looking for something similar -- I'd hate for you to miss out on such a great deal! :))

Yup, I sent the seller a message! Just waiting to hear back from them.

Awesome! I hope it's still available -- I wish you luck!! :))

Sorry to burst your bubble, but SK or VC will likely be well out of your budget for just the setting alone. I think David Klass would be a good option if you want to go custom as far as pricing goes.

Those designers you mention charge 4-5k

The cheapest DK will do a halo like that is going to be over 1k.

All of us have to make compromises when buying an engagement ring. I think she might need a dose of reality. Your budget is entirely too low for what you want.

Not that you can't get something beautiful. But expectations and reality need to be aligned.

Ok thank you! I'll look into it.

+1 This.

You really need to have a talk with FF because it's pretty clear she doesn't know what your budget is, as she keeps showing you things that are about twice what you would like to spend. You have been given several great options (that would normally be well above your budget). She wants one thing, but your budget will only accommodate so much. Either increase your budget significantly to her tastes or take the advice that has been given to you.

David Klass is a good suggestion, pandabee, but I'm pretty sure OP isn't gonna be able to go custom on $1500 total budget. ::) :blackeye:

We had a similar budget 10 years ago and had to go pre-loved to get what we want. Diamonds have increased a lot between then and now. I mean this in the nicest way possible, precious metals and gemstones are pricey and your budget simply doesn't accommodate having a lot of them. That doesn't mean that you can't get something nice, it just means that you need to compromise somewhere. A halo setting, diamond wedding ring, and diamond centre for the price you're asking? It's probably going to be a second-hand bargain! Please be realistic so you aren't disappointed. Niel has some very good suggestions!

I would also recommend working with Michael E at Gemshoppe.com (I've worked with him many times buying stuller settings) he can also alter some "stock" settings to fit better and your budget.

He can order say this halo in for you if you don't want to go completely custom from David Klass, using his melees:

http://www.stuller.com/products/122179/?groupId=120331

Buy a $500-$800 diamond from James Allen and plop it in this setting.

Here are a bunch of other mountings from Stuller (you can't buy directly from them, its a B2B so you'll have to ask a jeweler to see if they order from Stuller - David Klass does not, but Michael E does)

Buy this ring and put it in that halo.

Then stalk eBay for a 250 band. Hard but not impossible

Many here have given you lots of options, but you're probably a bit overwhelmed with possibly buying a diamond loose then shipping it off. Its pretty relatively easy and many here have done it multiple times, and the results are usually better than that if you bought it off the "rack" per se already. Quality results when done right. Good luck!

I really want to get her what she wants, but I know my budget is very limited. :((

...

I made the mistake of telling her after she went to look at rings. She assumed the budget wouldn't be more than 2500 though.

Wanting what's over the budget, whether that's $100 or $1,000,000, is universal so don't feel bad.

Please forgive me for getting personal but if you two are to be married now would be an ideal time to start openly discussing important financial decisions so you can get on the same page.

I honestly don't think it would be a good idea to send off $1500 (or $1000 or $500) to someone who signed up with eBay just 10 days ago & has no eBay history whatsoever (at least under this user name).

Maybe he was smoking da-herbs (his eBay user name) when he put together the listing, but he opted for the 5-day listing period, instead of the more common 7 or 10 days; doesn't provide his actual location (just United States); posted just 1 pic of each item, taken from a distance and not zoom-able; didn't post any paperwork, like the receipt from Diamonds Direct or DD's in-house appraisal. The ultimate "kiss of death" for me: he does not accept returns.

It's possible he really is a clueless newbie, but if I had a stolen ring I wanted to sell, this is the kind of eBay listing I'd do.

If she really has her heart set on the Zales ring there is a similar one listed on ebay that is a complete set, size 6, in your budget and looks similar to the Halo she picked out at Zales. There is no info on the cut of the diamonds and based on what the experts on here say the quality from there is not great but at least you would be getting her the setting she wants and maybe you could upgrade to a higher quality ring down the road for an anniversary. Here is the link if interested. Unfortunately the seller has no feedback and it says no returns. Best of luck in your search.

Has anyone posted this? It wouldn't need a band since it looks like it has two! Maybe show it to her, see what she thinks (if you like it).

Haha I thought about posting it a million times but there no band and I wasn't sure he'd want the three band look.

Thanks everyone, you've been great about giving me the right advice. I had a talk with her and she is okay with getting something that fits my budget. I showed her some of the suggestions on here and she liked some of them so we will see. I still haven't heard back from the LT seller yet!

Thanks for the suggestion! This is in line with the style she likes but the seller has no feedback. I messaged them about stats on the ring and they sent me the direct listing on the Zales website. I'm weary that they don't accept returns as well!

I want to pick out something from the awesome suggestions the forum members have given me. Waiting to hear back on some options!

Honestly, I was just throwing out some options. He could always ask for additional photos, receipts, etc... You're right about being cautious on eBay, and this listing would require a lot more "info" before anyone should consider it. That said, every individual seller has to start with that first listing. :))

That Loupetroop Daussi ring listing is 11 months old, so I would be very doubtful that it is available. Someone was very lucky, though!

Second hand would be your best bet, and you've been given some very good options such as the ones from James Allen.

If you are getting married immediately, then I can understand getting the wedding band now. But if you aren't getting married for 6 months to a year, there is no compelling reason to pay for that now.

These rings come pre-set with a center stone. Have her look through these. ID Jewelry carries this brand and I think they usually give a discount if you tell them you are a Pricescope member. These rings are MUCH better quality than the mall chain stores, too.

I think this is really pretty and is around $1900 before a discount:

I wouldn't use one of their rings for an ering. They aren't made extremely well and i question their stability if worn full time. I owe several and they are hit and miss with quality.
