I recently bought a ring because the diamond in it was different to me and cool. Problem is that it is tiny 4.1x3.8 and not round, so faces up small. I wasn’t blessed with small hands unfortunately.

My initial thought was to reset it into a halo with colored stones to give it more oomph but some folks in vintage/antique think it’s cool as is.

Any thoughts on what to do with Tiny?

If it was mine, I would set it in a band similar to my small EC for everyday wear (the ring on the left of this pic, the width of the band is about 5mm). I may be inclined to set it North-South for a wider band width to provide better finger coverage.

I’d say usually, our first hunch is the way to go. A colored halo sounds really pretty! Did you have a color/design in mind?

How about a cuff ring with another shape? I think that would be cool and give you finger coverage!

Leave it as is and wear it until the exact right thing comes along.

Maybe you could have the setting it’s in reconfigured to make a halo. It is a peg head, after all.1612222768040.png

Thank you for taking time to give me so ideas everyone!

@dk168, I actually did think of doing exactly what you suggested. The idea of a ring I don’t have to worry about that I could wear daily sounds great.

@elizat, I don’t have this style ring so that’s an idea, I like that I don’t have to try to match the diamond going this route.

@MamaBear, I’m thinking maybe a sapphire halo, either blue or pink (I love pink!) it would beef it up, I don’t have any inspiration pics yet though.

@tyty333, I’ve seen these and think they are neat, what stone for the other side though?

@ringo865, Oh I’m just trying to gather some ideas, not in a hurry but also not a great visionary. I really like this halo idea though.

@munchee, I’m actually wearing it on my pinky now! For the long term though I would like it on a different finger. The only ring I ever (almost) lost was on my pinky, I did find it in the trash in the ladies room at a restaurant. It was a close call!

Bezel! =)2

Just read about you close call with a prevouse pinky @YadaYadaYada

I wear my great grandma's wedding ring on my pinky but i pair it with a ring i wear stacked to keep it safely jammed on

I love the idea of blue saphire or pink halo...that sounds dreamy to me!!! Keep us in the loop on this project, please!

I'm thinking maybe an Oval set at a 25 degree tilt?

You could do a blue sapphire if you want to add color.

Do you like Art Nouveau swirl/tiara rings?
Maybe able to find one with a syn or missing stone that can be modified to fit yours, or you can just add yours to the design.

I think it is darling.

If you went for halo....I'd go for baguettes personally. I love them w/ step cuts....like this...I think blue sapphires would look marvelous. I'd probably bezel the stone in platinum, and do the rest yellow gold, or heck, all platinum. :kiss2:

Thanks @LLJsmom a low maintenance bezel would be great.

@Daisys and Diamonds ive never really been a pinky ring person but since this is so small I am rocking it like that for now.

@MamaBear, will do, you might not see anything from me for a while though.

@tyty333 oh interesting, I even have some loose gems, I’ll look through them and see what I have.

@lovedogs thanks! A colored stone halo is something I’ve wanted to do before so this may be a good candidate.

@Rfisher, I’ll have to look and see what I can find for tiara rings, thanks for the suggestion!

@Cerulean, YES that is what I had in mind! Of course much smaller but this idea. Do you think I need to prong set the Tiny diamond or could I bezel set it?

I think this is always a nice idea for step cut stones, probably because I have a ring that's exactly like that, but I will say that it ends up being a pretty expensive setting, because everything ends up having to be custom cut!

@YadaYadaYada just saw your post. Yes you can bezel set the center diamond. Mine is bezel set.

Makes tons of sense - I also think they are gorgeous....but I imagine it would definitely not be cost effective.

If I did the colored stone halo then I could maybe do something like this so I could use straight baguettes and then have a small diamond in the four corners.

I love the pink spinel baguettes Yvonne has. Not that I’m buying anything now but for project like this where you are buying stones how many extra do you need to buy?

I would talk to whoever you are going to have make the ring. I know a lot of people will buy extra stones with a certain waste percentage in mind. I will say that I am in the process of an almost year and a half project and it involves recutting rubies into french cuts and the parcel that I purchased through the vendor was something like over 5 carats. There have been issues with stones that chipped while setting and there have also been issues with stones that did not match colorwise for the halo. So I would talk to your vendor and ask what percentage should be accounted for with respect to waste.

Maybe you could search around for a vintage setting that this stone would fit into. And your Italian guy (the jeweler, not your DH... ) could set it in there for you. Kinda like your opal ring conversion.
This would be more economical than a whole new custom ring, and you would still keep the vintage vibe.
