Wink...I have been meaning to ask you. Why do you have a graphic showing a diamond resting on the back of what can only be described as an anorectic woman? (I am referring to the ad you have on Pricescope, of course!)

Deb, who would like to feed that girl!

Well, I thought maybe she had been eating too many carrots thus getting that carotene color...

Leonid asked if his wife could spice up my banner ad for me as my was too boring, I said yes and this is the fantastic banner that she did for me. I don''t know about anorexic but is is a MUCH more eye catching banner than my original one was, and the web site traffic agrees!

Her color is fine. I like yellow gold. It is her arm that bothers me. She looks as if she ceased eating and then languished without food long after her body fat was lost, until she started to lose muscle. But if she brings in traffic....

I was attracted to the Vatche specials, actually!!!! Very tempting....................

Hm... I''ve been staring intensly at that banner since it reminded me of the "golden woman" of Vendorafa Lombardli.... and I love those guys !

Btw, AGBF, you might wnat to check their gold designs out (link to Vendorafa). I have no idea if they sell in the US, but the mix of hammered, brushed gold and diamond pave are quite a sight.

I hope this bit is not offensive to anyone... Just wanted to see for myself what AGBF is talking about.

Putting anatomically "impossible" or at least unusual people in advertising is an effective tactic to make people notice your ad.

Lots and lots of advertising is photoshopped in this way.

All you have to do is pick up a magazine and start flipping thru the ads to see how often models are made to look just on the edge of something not quite human. Eyes a little too large, legs stretched longer, oddly long necks - stuff like that.

Since the brain is accustomed to what is normal, things that are not normal catch the eye.

Like the spindly little arm on the model in the ad. Which looks to me like an effect of the lighting.

Private message...a tool severely underutilized...
2.gif

To add to the discussion, to me the hard shadowing under the arm gives it away that reality is not what we are looking at here.
And to think previously all I was drawn to was the big diamond...I was seriously missing out.

What woman? All I can see is a humongous diamond!!!

LOL! All I saw was an incredibly improved banner. I had not a clue to the anorexia, if that is what it is, the photoshoping other than for the color, or the shadowing mentioned above.

It is probably a good thing that I am a jeweler, not an advertiser.

I do know that I like the banner much better than the boring one I did and I am very greatful for the help from Leonid and his wife!

Surely you jest! I only take matters that might harm others to PMs or e-mail. Wink is getting a lot of publicity from this! In fact, if Leonid didn''t forbid it, I would ask him for some golden bauble in return!

I see this as a potentially sensitive issue that would have been much better served with a private message, ESPECIALLY in light of it being directed at one person, aka 'Hey Wink'. It wasn't..Hey Wink..and rest of PS.

Just curious...why would a topic like this be appropriate for RockyTalky, where it was originally posted, nevermind DH where it got moved (possibly for lack of knowing a better place to put it!?).

When I saw this, my thought was that you wanted to call him out for an ad you deemed inappropriate, aka with an 'anorexic' woman and make him publicly say why he chose this. What GOOD could possibly have come of doing that in open forum?

As for publicity, maybe it's publicity he doesn't necessarily want. Just a thought!

Oh and Kudos to Irina for her fab banner-jazzing-up skills! I think it's great.

Guess what? You and I do not think at all alike. If I had had your perception of these matters I wouldn''t have said anything at all. It''s unlikely I will soon start to think like you, but one never knows. :-)

Ah, Mara! Strange, strange things happen on Pricescope! There was a recent thread in which Fire&Ice was forced to come to the conclusion that h*ll had frozen over not once, but twice, because she found herself in bed with such strange fellows!

  • I think Wink's ad was just fine (and it does help catch one's eyes). I've seen things thousands of times worse than this in many different places. I've seen things posted on PS that I consider worse than this ad.....

  • I think Mara's "Private message...a tool severely underutilized..." comment is way out of line, should have been a PM itself, and is rather insulting. AGBF is an experienced poster and knows when to use a PM and when it is okay not to. To imply anything otherwise is an insult.

  • AGBF is fine with this topic and her conversation, though she almost gave me a heart attack
    emunlove.gif
when I mis-read her post "It's unlikely I will soon start to think like you, but one never knows" with the word likely instead....
The first conversation between AGBF and Wink should have set the tone for continuing the thread - there was obviously no hard feelings there. Everyone should have been able to discuss this without getting attacked. If we all do that, I won't be compelled to write such posts as this one and can stick to my fun posts instead.....

Mara - should you wish to reply to this, please use PM as I do not think the thread should be hijacked by a side discussion about this.

You CHOOSE to make an entire post about YOUR OPINION of Mara''s comment and you have the NERVE to suggest she only reply to you in PM????? And, under the "shroud" of hijacked threads.
6.gif
That train pulled out a while ago w/ your last comment on it.

I love Pricescope. You go, fire&ice!

On another note, do you think we could get everyone still posting here to become involved in this discussion? I mean...this is *substantive*!!! Where is Marty Haske when we *REALLY* need him?

Deb :-)

________________________________
The arrogance here is choking me. Who appointed you hall monitor? Who deemed that websailor is the bastion of all that is good on Pricescope? Who CARES if we stick to your 'fun posts' rather than your 'hall monitor' posts....honestly, I find both to be utterly useless.

AGBF is more than capable of telling me what she feels...I don't see the need as to why you felt to get involved and what? Saying I insulted her HOURS after the last post? Try to stir up more muck? Then after you had YOUR public say, you want to take it to PM so we don’t derail the thread? Seriously, I am about breathless with laughter over here.
20.gif

Look, I realize you don’t like me...newsflash...it doesn’t keep me awake at night. However, if you really want to keep the peace around here as you so often cry from the sidelines with your video camera, stay out of my conversations and don’t stir up drama with me or even speak to me. Because as you already well know about me...I don’t have a problem speaking up or defending myself or my opinions until the cows come home. So, if you want a peaceful existence as you so often say you do, then a snide post like this one above is not fulfilling your wish. I have been on PS long before you deigned to grace us with your non-diamond-advice-giving-hall-monitor presence, and I will be here long after you decide to leave.

I am glad I didn't have to encourage you, personally, Mara. (I mean, the way I encouraged fire&ice.) You have terrific energy and I am sure will pull your weight in this discussion. By the way, I love your dogster website. I hadn't seen most of those pix before. I just remember the one of her (Portia) flying. My favorite shot is of her stretched way out over the side of her bed :-).

I really hope I don''t deter anyone from participating by veering off on a tangent. (Get back to the discussion, please!) I just had to share this shot of Portia. She looks as if she is as flexible as a ballerina. Why doesn''t that position stretch her abdominal muscles? She looks so content but she''s being stretched as if she were on the rack!

I hate to be the one to point it out, but it''s rather hard to stand on the high ground yourself and tell others how you think they should behave when you seem unwilling to behave that way yourself.

You saw fit to make your comments publicly instead of PM, so I have to think you weren''t terribly concerned about this thread getting hijacked then.

I sincerely hope that Mara responds in kind....publicly.

Back to the original subject at hand. . .I wouldn't have noticed until AGBF pointed this out, but the model does look a bit underweight. I think you'd need more muscle mass to hold up such a heavy diamond

I know how bizarre this is going to sound. At least I *think* I do. But as I read MichelleCarmen's comment I could see Portia stretched out above what she wrote. It looked as if Portia was in the same position as Wink's Golden Girl. She looks ready to have a diamond placed on her little doggie back! (Actually, as I examine the two pictures I notice that Portia's face is not turned to the camera. So sue me.)

On a side note.......something to consider.

We''ve been communicating around here for years just fine before you got here. We managed to muddle along just fine with very little supervision, and if things truly got a little too out of hand, the moderator was sure to let us know.

Everyone mixed it up, and if folks had problems with each other, they resolved them directly. I''ve had pointed words with Mara; she''s had pointed words with me. We''ve both had pointed words with F&I; she''s had them with us, and so have many others.

Conversations got passionate and heated several times...........BUT everyone was adult enough to handle it and recognize it for what it was and MOVE ON with no lingering hard feelings. Deb''s subsequent reply eloquently illustrates that - talking about Mara''s dog and wryly noting (almost with a written wink) that she needs no encouragement to "go, girl". If she''s not going to have a keniption over it, I don''t really see why you feel compelled to.

We''ve NEVER all agreed, and we''ve all been pretty vocal when we feel strongly about something. This approach has worked for just fine for quite a long time.....until recently.

Now, some folks have decided that they don''t like the rules of engagement here and feel as though they can tell others to change what has worked for them right along. I respectfully say.....think again.

If you so object to such discourse, there is something you can do. You''re heard of casting your vote with your dollar? Expressing your approval to vendors by spending your dollars with them? You can do the same thing with your participation.....vote with your participation. Participate only in those feel-good threads that you like, and don''t participate in those that you feel breach your comfort level for communication.

Hey, Deb.......sure, you can get me to participate.

I didn''t even know Wink had a new ad, so thanks for pointing it out!

To me, it looks mostly like shading (shadows), but what do I know? I was too mesmerized by the DIAMOND to look at the model.

I have absolutely NO DOUBT that Leonid''s very talented wife could have Portia sporting a big diamond on her back looking like it belonged there.

I showed the banner to my lovely wife and shared Deb''s comment with her. Resa agrees that the young lady needs to be fed. Now if we could only identify her and have her show up in Vegas we could get her a couple of great hot meals...

Shadowing v. bones looks about 50/50. The shoulder area needs a bit more meat! lol

And, I agree Portia would look elegant and sophisticated with a diamond on her back. Her pics on her web site are adorable.

Valeria,

You are right, they have some lovely pieces, I especially like the 18kt white gold and chrysophrase ring.

Yeah, I noticed that too......albeit it with a tiny bit of jealousy.....but then it passed.
