OMG. I would love a shot of that collection!

I voted 5 - 20 but I have a crystal dish full of gemstones for decoration so I didn''t count them.

89 - albeit mostly cheapy stones.

I haven't counted, but it's lots, not including the dinky "crystal dish" stones (great idea, marcyc!). All of mine are "learning stones" bought before I found PS but really, except for the small filler stones, I still like almost all of them, and they still all amaze me.

ETA come to think of it, I'm not sure I've bought any stones since I found PS! It was much easier to buy stones when I knew less about what to look for!

You and me both. I still have not gotten out to see 23rd st in Santa Monica or Singlestone. I''ve been meaning to for WEEKS, but the kid keeps getting in the way!

And, hello missy, your stones have been unset longer than mine!!

MP They''re all in individual pots with labels on the bottom so taking them out, assembling them, photographing them etc., just isn''t going to happen!

Somewhere I''ve got photos of them all in cases but it''s not the same is it?

Ha ha ha. That''s true, but mine are little stones. You have a big stone. So you need to set your stone first.

That''s actually exactly the kind of shot I was thinking of lol. I can only imagine what they look like all together. WOW.

And here I just want to have enough to fill up a little 50-case box. Lol.

Here you go MP. This was my collection a couple of years ago. I haven''t taken any recent photos but it gives you an indication! Some of these are now set. You can see that the bottom box was only half full but I''ve managed to sort that out now!!!

My OCD self could not take that. Then how would I be able to label the jar? My mind is spinning just thinking of the chaos!

We need to start a club for people like us who think the money is better spent on gemstones than the setting.

Naughty naughty naughty. You KNOW those beauties need their own space. Now repeat after me "I will buy a new gem box and get to sorting (and labelling) my gemstones"!

See? Don''t you feel better now you have a plan?

BTW I''m loving the Paraiba/Cuprian glow that I spy with my little eye!!!!

Whoa Lori - all those lovely gemstones I''ve seen you get, and you''ve only set one (and even that one''s moot because you don''t have it anymore!)??!!

I wonder if some people have gemstone committment issues - I was surprised how much work it was to actually pick out a setting. I went back and forth for days, and agonized over whether it was the right decision. My gemstones are probably talking about how I "lead them on", talking about setting them, and then drop them cold.

The problem is I want a gembox that only holds the glass top jars. I don''t care for the round little plastic ones. Do they sell those somewhere?

For you TL: link to case with glass-top gem jars

Also, do you ever get to Intergem? Jemco is always there with all of that kind of stuff. They have a website too (although it seems to be down at the moment), and you can order that stuff separately. I think the leatherette cases run about $11-$12, and the square glass-topped jars (1.5") are maybe 30 cents? I like being able to do my own configurations.

Wanna borrow my P-Touch?

TL, I would love to know too if there''s a gemtray that holds glass top jars. That''ll so go on my Christmas list!

Why does it have to have a see-through top??

Thanks for the links!!

Here is how I keep most of mine, mainly in magnetically locked boxes that "suspend" the stones between two clear polymer sheets, a neat way to store the unset stones so I can look at them from all angles without tweezers or getting fingerprints on them :)

hey, um, can I still play in here if I only have one stone?

The more the merrier! Please post your pics :)

SS - I love the blue stone in the front row. Is it a spinel?
