I know we haven''t started planning really, but Strmy and I are going to be very economical with our whole wedding, and this is our personal choice. My idea of a perfect honeymoon, and I believe Strmy has agreed, because I believe this is the plan for right after the wedding....
We are going to just go back to our apartment and lock the doors - oh yeah - collect all keys that the others have, and spend the whole weekend just being together alone...with occassional run for Uncle Nicks and the rest will be groceries already at the apartment...including chilled sparkling apple cider :} with a note on the door - JUST MARRIED - DO NOT DISTURB and in fine print... This honeymoon suite is protected by a Smith and Weston - giggle...
Every since I was a little girl that has always been my dream honeymoon - go back to our place and start life together - yeah I''m a country pumpkin and if that was good enough for my folks, then it is good enough for me :}:}:}
We do like the idea of one an anniversary and money ahead - then spend a weekend in the city and taking in some museums and maybe the aqaurium :} Those are just maybe somedays.

We spent a bit over 10k.

Our wedding was very reasonable - backyard bbq wedding...

So we went all out for our honeymoon. Flew first class to Kaua''i, stayed at a great hotel, ate whatever we wanted, went on some great sightseeing adventures.

It was amazing.

We are spending more on our HM than on our wedding. So far I really don''t even know how much it will be in total

.

This is what we have planned:

We booked a round the world ticket for out DW in Bali.

-We''ll be flying from Amsterdam to Bali, stay there for 11 days, have our wedding and hang out with our friends/family for another couple of days.

-From Bali we''ll fly to Hong Kong for 5 days. We''ll go to Macau from here as well.

-Than we''ll fly to Phuket, Thailand and stay there for 7 days beach fun.

-From Phuket we''ll fly to SOuth Korea and do a backpack trip around the country for 11 days (maybe hit North Korea too
1.gif
)

-From South Korea we''ll fly to Vegas, were we''re planning a second wedding for friends/family there. We''ll be staying in Vegas for 7 days befor we''ll fly back to Amsterdam.

In total we''ll be away for somewhat more than 5 weeks.

We''ve done trips like this befor, and I needed our honeymoon to be even better than those trips, I think we came pretty close..

Costs made so far:

Air fare: 4400 euro

Hotel Bali (wedding hotel): 1800 euro

Extra hotel nights Bali (different hotel): 200 euro

Hotel Macau: 100 euro

Hotel Thailand: 800 euro

HOtel Vegas (Mandalay Bay): $800 (wedding venue)

Hotel Treasure Island: $1000

So we still have to plan for our hotels in Hong Kong and South Korea. Total this far... over $12k

And for you Karasue, we''ve done that same trip (we went from Seattle to Vancouver, to Calgary, down to Yellowstone and back to Seattle) 2 years ago. It was a great trip, we had so much fun. We stayed a lot in motels, a lot of small towns with not a lot of options. I totally recommend driving down to Seattle as well, it''s only a 2 hour drive from Vancouver and I totally loved it.

I don''t know when you''re going but we visited all the parks in august, and we had bad weather in Banff and Jasper. At 1 point it actually snowed about 6 inches in one night
23.gif
(we came out our bungalow in the morning and we shocked). Besides those parks it was great weather, but you might wanna think about packing some warm winter clothing (gloves etc). We knew it could be cold, but never thought of bringing gloves and scarfs, when we went up a glacier we couldn''t stay up for more than 10 minutes because of the cold wind and rain.

If you have the time (and it''s the season) try whale watching in Vancouver/Seattle (we tried, late in the season, so no whales
7.gif
) but still a beautiful trip! Have fun planning!

omg your trip is so fabulous, that is going to be amazing!!

it''s awesome to hear people say they''ve been on this trip we are going on, everyone says it is absolutely beautiful. We are getting married aug 9 so the trip will be aug 10-24. snow in august!!! hahaha that''s actually good advice, we will definitely bring some coats with us. what a great benefit to driving, we can load up as much stuff as we want and no weight limit worries!! don''t think we''ll make it up to jasper just cuz i think its about 6 hours out of our way, but that will definitely be a trip for another time. yet another reason i am going to love living in calgary...so much to do and all in driving distance!

do you know when whale watching season is? i was definitely hoping to do that. not sure if we''ll make it down to seattle, but we have discussed it. i''m leaving everything up to FI though, so i won''t be disappointed if we don''t make it down there.

thanks for your input!!

Tickets for our cruise to Canada will run about $2000 total including meals. We''ll spend more money on excursions, shopping, wine, etc, so maybe our total will be $2500-3000? This was our most affordable option among those we considered. We had planned on spending about $4000-5000, but it didn''t seem worth spending twice as much which would have mostly gone to plane flights and transportation costs, and it meant more travel time and less vacation time. We could have upgraded our cabin to a balcony room, but it didn''t seem worth an extra $1000 just to have a balcony when we could spend that on souvenirs or somesuch

The whale watch season is from May-October, but when we wer there late August, they told us that season was already winding down. 2 Weeks before there was still a pack of whales, but they already left. We did see some sea lions and dolphins (can''t remember the name) that looks like a baby orca.
You can see some of my pics on website
It''s my blog of that holiday, but it''s all Dutch, but you could see some pics when you scroll down. If interested, I could send you some more. And your welcome!

my gf and i are budgeting aroud 3500-4000 for the honeymoon. this should be doable for a 7 night stay in jamaica or other tropical destination in the carribbean with airfare included. the resort will be all inclusive and we''ll probably need a couple hundred for spending money...

anyone do something similar to what i have listed above and know how much it cost?

I only have a rough idea of how ours will cost. I figured 7-10k. We''re going to Greece for 12 days roughly then to Paris for 2-3 days then staying with friends in London for 2-3 days. I think a lot of our cost will come in airfare and how much we plan to spend on hotels in Greece (I was thinking fancy on islands like Santorini) that can be quite costly.

We''re going to Canada too! I''m sorry if you''ve mentioned this already and I can''t remember, but where are you cruising to? We''re getting married in Maine and after we changed destinations (Portugal), we looked at taking the CAT from Portland, Maine, to Halifax, Nova Scotia. I''m afraid of the seasickness factor though so we opted to drive to QC instead.

basil, i didn''t even see your response till just zoe replied to it!!

that was exactly our thinking too, tickets to fly out of canada are insane, and it would take us a whole day to get anywhere anyway so we figured we might as well spend those extra days and money on a trip we want to take anyway.

so where are you going on your cruise? east coast or west coast? either would be fantastic, i''ve always wanted to take a cruise to alaska. but the east coast i''ve heard is amazing too, and the people over there are supposed to be super friendly!!

Hey Zoe and Kara,

I''m really psyched about our cruise, actually, even though it''s totally not what I would have imagined picking when I thought of a honeymoon. Our cruise leaves the day after our wedding, and the port (Boston) is only like a 1-1.5 hour drive, so it''s super convenient. We''re going to eastern Canada - Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Cape Breton Island. It also includes a stop at Mt. Desert Island, Maine. Despite the fact that I went to Maine practically every other weekend as a teenager for skiing, I''ve never been to Mt. Desert Island!

Zoe - we considered doing the car ferry thing too. But besides the seasick thing, I worried that we''d spend the whole vacation buried in a map trying to find our way around. We''re both really really bad with directions.

Karasue - I''d love to take a cruise to Alaska too! It''s actually on the list of "next things to do" when we have more spare time and more money. But since we''re on the east coast, it would be a long expensive flight, so we decided against it.

Fiance and I aren''t really beachy people at heart...can''t really imagine us sitting under a tiki hut and sunbathing all day, even though it sounds good in theory. So this really works out well for us - saves money, saves travel time, and we''ll be seeing sights that I really wanted to see. I went to Cape Breton on a road trip with my family when I was 9 or 10 years old, and I''ve wanted to go back for years. Now I have my chance!
