I’m on the upgrade train again with HPD/CBI!

Or maybe look at selling on preloved or Loupe Troop outright and then buy a super ideal? Anyway, just saying.

What is the trade up policy (if there is one) at the place where you bought the stone you have? Just curious....

I sold my previous ER back to the jeweler that sold it to my x husband 17 years ago. Then my fiancé purchased another ER at the same place because he liked the jeweler and his honesty. Plus he gave me a good deal on my previous ER. I don’t care for his upgrade policy and truth be told I’d rather work with a preferred vendor from here.

I get it because my original ER is now a pendant. But it was 1993 uncertified and not anywhere near heats and arrows and probably a 60/60. Since it was .75 I kept it and started over with the .64 I CBI.

Well, I started over with a .37k which I quickly traded back in next day for a .56G. I always forget about that little one because once I saw a CBI I was like “bigger and whiter please lol. I bought another one around that size (I’m on painkillers— getting 2 new knees on 12/16 so my brain is not sharp) and they are now side stones in my sapphire and CBI 3 stone ring.

It will be absolutely stunning!

That’s beautiful!

That’s beautiful!

Thank you.

So I hate to “be a pricescopper” but lol

I’m sitting on it for 24 hours because I’m starting to come around to the idea that I might want to see what they have in 2 months when all that new inventory is listed. I might be able to get in the 1.3s / over 7 mm club. That would be fun.

Plus I’m on pain meds and Benadryl (the pain meds make me itchy) so my thinking isn’t clear right now.

I think I would be much happier if I could get into an even larger size.

I’ll keep you all posted; I may have jumped the gun here. Lol. Bigger is better, right?

Girrrl, I would totally wait to see their new inventory. It sounds exciting. And if you can and funds allow -since I know you have a lot on your plate right now -try and get to 7mm or over.

I wish you a speedy recovery!

You too! You know, just saying, Wink has been known to take a trade in for someone who wants to switch over to CBI.. I don’t know that this is a policy only that I remember someone mentioned it once. I don’t know if it has to be a particular measurement or parameters.... just thought I’d put that bug in your ear lol

Wink, first and foremost, is a jeweler. He has been @cflutist jeweler for decades.

@whitewave Ooooh! Is that right?! Does anyone know? I’m upgrading my ACA soon but they haven’t had anything in my size or stats for a long time!
I just went to look and they have no diamonds in the size and stats I want...I would be willing to wait.

Thanks. Yes, doesn’t it sound fun to have the combination of more funds plus more inventory?!

Well, don’t take my word for it.... I was thinking someone mentioned it like 2 years ago, but I’m not 100% on it. Or maybe they used to and don’t now. Idk. Or maybe I’m totally wrong lol. Or maybe it was a one time thing/special circumstance. Etc

Haha Okay...Thanks

Someone help me out.... isn’t the general rule I have read here that a .2mm size difference is noticeable?
For me yes, If you lay the stones side by side in front of me.

Yes, definitely! Sadly, my current funds are tied up into my current car and my next car. My lease is up soon and I have to pay a disposition fee among other things just to return it plus down payment for my new car. Ouch. So I need those couple of months as a cushion to start saving again since my upgrade will be from scratch.

Thank you.

I definitely think you should wait. I am sure you will find some very viable options when their inventory is replenished. When you go bigger, will you need a new setting? Or can the current one be modified to work with the new stone?

I can keep going with the setting I have— just new heads. I really like my setting and while I would like a modified Boston classic with pave, I think I might miss my sweet little ring.

I'm so sorry about your knees - and the allergic reaction to the meds! I look forward to cheering on your upgrade whenever it happens!

@whitewave - If you can hang on until Spring, my 1.30 F SI1 may be available...I was just emailing Wink about a Spring upgrade :) After wasting a lot of money on settings that were beautiful but not really my style, I've finally found "my" setting -- who knew it would be the Sholdt half-bezel. Unfortunately, that means I'll need to get a new Sholdt when I upgrade my stone. So I'm being much more thoughtful about where I want to end up size-wise and color-wise. I agree that with CBIs, clarity is a non-issue. I do think you will see a difference between your current stone and a 1.30 (7 mm) stone. My last upgrade was from 6.50 to 7 mm and I could clearly see the difference. I am an incremental upgrader as well. Sure, it costs more to upgrade more frequently and in smaller increments. I'm just more comfortable with making smaller jumps in size, especially because in "real life," my current diamond is larger than most of my colleagues', friends', and family members' stones. Because of the cut, people perceive it as larger than it is as well. I'm also a bit color sensitive so I need to balance color/size. I do need to clear out my jewelry box over the holidays -- more for my mental health than anything else (it makes me anxious to own so much stuff that no one in my family will want or know what to do with when I'm gone). After that's done, it's off to the upgrade races :) Best of luck with your knee surgery -- you'll deserve a bling reward after that!

Thank you, and whoa, yeah, F si1 is my sweet spot! My studs are F si1. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks also to you and everyone for the good wishes for my surgery. I have to go do my pre op testing today and Thursday I have an appointment for pre op paperwork and then my surgery is a week from tomorrow.

That might have been me. I had discussed trading in my then-WF Expert Selection for a CBI, and had an offer from HPD for the ES (Wink shopped my AGS cert/specs to diamond buyers). Ultimately, I decided to return the CBI & stick with WF for upgrade b/c the loss was more than I was willing to take on the ES since I could get full-upgrade value toward an ACA.

I think there was something on HPD’s site about the process; just not sure if it’s something he’s still offering.
