I’m torn! 4ct Antique Cushion?

Yes me too, I'm like Niel, I can talk myself into living with anything but if I don't love it immediately then I I have found that reaction doesn't change over time. Having said that we are all different and there is no dispute it's a nice stone. The colour could be what is bugging you about it - it is way lower than a J. I'm guessing Grace will come back from JCK with some cool new things, so if you wait a few days and you still don't love it, it still might be worth seeing how you feel about OECs or other cuts instead.

Ditto Arkie, that is one gorgeous cushion, I would keep it for a few days to see if she steals into your heart, if not who knows what goodies Grace might find at JCK....?? :cheeky:

It's a very pretty stone but IMHO you are either a cushion person or an OEC person and you can still like both but most of us have a strong preference for one over the other. You might have a visual preference for OECs or for Transitionals (or both round shapes) rather than cushions and that is all it is. Alternatively as some have suggested you might prefer cushions that have more of a really bold maltese cross in the middle and are more like AVCs, or you might not like either. It is also an EGL graded stone which means it is lower than a J.

Ask Grace to find a killer OEC for you instead and swap them, and see if you like that better. I think sometimes we don't really understand what we love until we see and or roadtest a heap of different items. I know that things I have loved on paper I have gone "meah not so much IRL" and other things that should in theory be average I have gone "wow, that is amazing"..... genuine old cuts are like that, a bit of a mixed barrel.

It's not a matter of finding one that you can live with, but the one that you cannot live without!!!!

Agree with this. It is a beautiful stone but if it doesn't make your heart sing keep looking. I prefer OEC's myself and given the choice (and I was) it was an OEC I fell in love with and head over heels vs the antique cushion. Of course if I could have one of every shape without sacrificing size (I love big diamonds-all the better to see the amazing facets with) I would :cheeky: but since I cannot I wanted the one and only diamond of my dreams. And you deserve that too so don't settle because you don't have to. Keep on looking and let Adam and Grace and whomever else you like help you in the search. With all that help you are sure to find your soul mate diamond.

I agree with Arkieb.
It's a beautiful stone AND it looks really pretty on your hand.
But you do not seem to be thrilled. When the right stone comes along, you will know it's the right one.

How would you react if the vendor called you to say that he has a serious buyer and that he now sold it to this buyer?
Your reaction to this question could tell you something about how you really feel about this stone.

All the best in the quest towards your dream stone. Happy hunting :wavey:

I adore that stone; I wish I had the funds for it. I disagree about being an ACC or OEC person -- I love both, and my goal is to have both (well, I do have both right now, but my OEC is a baby).

I want to say that for me, falling in love with a stone is hard because I have a hard time turning off my brain; I keep thinking about how much it cost, how big the commitment is, etc. It's probably a good thing I married my DH when I was very young because if I had to go through the process now I'd never settle on a man, lol.

(Plus, I think these old stones have a hard time living up to the amazing close up images we see of them.)

I'd say give yourself the full inspection period, and take the stone as many places as you can so you can see it in a myriad of lighting environments. Also, if you can, ask someone else to put the stone on and try viewing it from a distance, moving their hand naturally.

Me too ... I am both a cushion and OEC person. It is very hard to come by a beautiful antique cushion (much harder than OECs). As soon as I find one in my price range, I am going to snatch it up. In the mean time, I will keep enjoying my OEC.

This cushion in my mind is special ... perfect square and beautifully cut .. and if it is white enough for you .... it's perfect! It is in a low plain setting right now - I think a blinger setting will make it look massive. The stone was really massive in its old setting that I saw.

This is exactly what I've been struggling with! I brain knows that it's a very special stone and from a collector's standpoint it would an excellent stone to keep. For whatever reason it just hasn't made my heart sing. I honestly think it should go to someone who really, really loves it. About color, my 1ct ER diamond is a GIA I and it looks colorless to me. The tranny I've been wearing is estimated O-P so it's definitely not the color that's a problem. It looks incredibly white to me.

I would sleep on it a few days. I *almost* sent back my AC for 2 or 3 weeks after I purchased it. Now I'm so happy I didn't. My AC is not perfect by any means, but to me I love it. I have moments where I have thought about selling it to get something else (such as an OEC) but when it comes down to it I have never been able to pull the trigger. AC's are hard to find and in the 2 years I have owned it I have never been able to find something similar that I have liked half as much. So wear it around a bit longer. If it still doesn't make your heart sing then return it, but I wouldn't jump too fast. I know I"m really happy that another PSer gave me that advise at the time.

I sorta think you have to figure out what you don't like about it so you can find your perfect stone.

Is it the shape?

Is it the size?

Is it just nervousness of spending so much money (this happens to me)?

It is a beautiful stone, although I also have a soft spot for the August Vintage cushions. It could very well be the shape but it may only be that you are not used to this shape. If size matters, I see what you mean compared to your transitional, cushions just face up smaller. It may very well be that you really are an OEC person. I too think that a diamond has to make your heart skip a beat the moment you first glance at it; that said sometimes stones can really grow on you and you may end up falling for it later on. Perhaps wait a few days and keep searching and yes you can always wait for after JCK to talk about swapping the stone for something else. Very pretty though.

I'm on the same boat of sitting on it for a few more days. I didn't have love at first sight with my current OEC . It's a different kind of OEC that I was used to. But now I love it more and more.

Also I know that it would be very difficult to find another OEC with the same specs so I just love my OEC more. Your antique cushion is the most beautiful I've ever seen.

Just to update...

It was definitely the shape. Now I know I prefer rounds to fancy shapes. I ended up falling in love with the M color OEC that Grace took to JKC. I thought I wanted something whiter but I think I actually like the lower colors better in OECs, the chameleon effect captivates me.

My phone case is gold so it doesn't give a true representation of color but check out how crazy it looked when we were eating lunch outside under a red umbrella yesterday.

Please excuse the lousy pictures and my manicure. We're nearing the end of a house remodel and I'm a little rough.

That's awesome. I'm glad you didn't settle. It looks perfect.

So glad you found one you love! See my tagline for my advice!

The round is lovely and it looks fabulous on your hand. Glad you figured out what makes you happiest! :appl:

What a beauty!!! I'm a huge fan of warm OEC's

I'm glad you waited and found the stone that sings to you. Someone's tag line said "When in doubt....don't. It's great advice and can really keep you from regretting a purchase. Not sure whose tag line it is but I love it.

Very nice! What are the specs?

:appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: Beautiful stone!!!! Glad you found one that makes you happy!!!! I strongly suspected it was the shape - yes people can love both and wear both but almost all of us have a visual preference for certain shapes and cuts over others!!!!

It's lovely and huge on you! Congrats on finding the stone of your dreams :appl: Enjoy!

What a beautiful stone and it looks great on you! I think the cushion was very nice as well but somehow this stands out on you and I am a fan of cushions but this looks like the perfect fit for you.
