I am SCREWED!!! I got nothing for my wife yet!!

Great minds, Deco. ;D

Your wife's ring and watch are both very beautiful, classic pieces, so I'd go diamond hoops. They can be dressed up or down and people will notice the sparkle of the ACAs from across a room. They'd be a great addition to a classic collection.

yeah I think diamond hoops or studs would be a great choice, classic, something she can wear every day. Whiteflash and BGD have great hoops and studs.

ETA if she would like you could get her studs AND jackets for a dressier blingier look. I think if you call either of those vendors they can find you some matching ideal cuts that would make lovely studs.

Too funny her name is Marcy! I like the earrings EB posted too.

I am absolutly going with one you all have recomended. You will have to wait for pics to see what I chose. Please keep sending recomendations, I might change my mond. One question with earrings, Platinum or White gold? What is your preference? Why do you guys like Whiteflash so much? thanks
Platinum is much heavier than white gold. I like my platinum studs, but if there is a lot of metal in the earrings, go with white gold to keep them from being too heavy.

Whiteflash is popular here because they specialize in exceptionally well cut diamonds, and well cut diamonds mean lots of sparkle, bright light return, and colorful flashes. On-line vendors tend to have better prices than jewelry stores, which is another plus.

Ditto white gold. Lighter weight than platinum on the ears. Also a shinier appearance which I prefer.

RE: "why do you guys like whiteflash so much" Whiteflash is a reputable vendor that PSers are well aware of. They have lots of business and pics all over PS. There are lots of awesome vendors though. You can post the name before you make your final selection if you want any PSer input on that particular vendor.

btw-I am 31 and I love your wife's style. She's got very elegant and classic taste.

I recommended Whiteflash and BGD because

1) I own BGD studs and they are fabulous, I LOVE them
2) They specialize in super ideal cut diamonds which it seems like you are looking for, since you don't really have a limited budget and aren't trying to maximize size for price
3) They have a large selection of ideal cuts in house, and if you call either vendor they could pick a pair of studs for you.

CUSO...i want to see the back side of your wife's watch... :appl:

Yeah, I thought your wife was older too.

If she's thirty and those are the pieces she wears... classic studs to hoops. Understated elegance seems to her her style. I'm glad you didn't buy those sapphire earrings. They were very old for her.

I'd go for some lovely studs at 1 ctw (upgradable ones). Or a solitaire pendant at a 3/4 carat. I'd get F-G color SI1 that are eye clean.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

Re: why do we like Whiteflash so much? They have a good reputation around here, have pleased a lot of posters & tend to carry popular styles at value price points with very nice diamond quality to boot. The same style of huggie hoops can be purchased at Brian Gavin Diamonds, which I personally have bought settings from in the past. Would recommend them as well -- just not as familiar with their site & didn't know off hand how much those particular earrings were there -- where I'd remembered that Whiteflash has done several pairs at about 2K. Also, I think Whiteflash has a bit more in stock inventory than BGD does. Its just a hunch. Don't know for sure.

In general I think the *style* of huggie hoops would work for your wife, no matter which vendor you choose. Tiffany has diamond hoops too -- but those are 4K+. And, where studs would be a good choice also ... to get studs that would be ideal with a 2ct EC ring -- you'd also be in the 4K range at least, depending on the color/clarity/cut you opt for.

In the 2K range, huggie hoops seem like a solid, awesome value play to me. And I'd concur about the white gold being lighter/more comfy for that size earring -- unless you think there's a possiblility she's allergic to it. For simple studs w/less metal, I prefer platinum.

Hope that helps! Good luck! Give us more of a head start on her birthday, mkay?

I did want to point you to this previous thread by another young lawyer with classic tastes, who ended up purchasing huggie hoops for herself -- but, after comparing two sets of earrings in person, actually opted for a pair from Costco! Looks like the ones she selected might be back in stock. There are pictures comparing the two and ear pix on her ear.

You can follow the discussion on that thread re: quality of cut in small stones like that vs. size increase. Its truly a personal choice.

Surely those $140000 ones have birthday written all over them?

I mean, I wouldn't personally accept anything less  ;)) :halo:

My favorite piece from Whiteflash has always been this one: http://www.whiteflash.com/diamond-pendants/bellerina-diamond-pendant-ready-set-to-go-93.htm ( I don't like WF's pics on the site, they don't do the pendant justice AT ALL)

It's just at 2k in Platinum with a .50 diamond in it (I'd get the .75 in white gold but, well... I'm a PSer and diamond size trumps platinium if I have to chose). And it's beautiful, unique (the design is the collaboration of two Pricescopers) and definitely a signature piece that is both elegant and understated.

I know you are looking at earrings but... the more I think about it, for 2K you can get a really lovely pendant.

Not to be the grammar-police but wouldn't this mean you are NOT screwed? :Up_to_something:

OP, it's doubtful that you got screwed unless you really weren't paying attention. My advice to you in all humility is take more responsibility for the timing of your decision making process and visualize yourself in charge. Yelling "I am SCREWED" is going to do nothing to help you or to help us help you. My further advice it to relax a little. A lot of men come here but aren't willing to put in the time and open themselves up to the emotional interaction it takes to actually communicate and learn. I would never recommend that anyone rush the learning experience that is PS, holiday season, or no.

PLEASE tell me you didn't get her long dangly earrings for work! :o

Dangles are for eating out, or dress up. Long dangles are not for work, unless she is in a hippy environmental law office. In which case, diamonds are not appropriate. Keep the receipt.

Pearls are for work. Watch TV, every anchorwoman and woman in government is wearing pearls right now.

Seriously, diamond dangles for work? :nono:

Studs, okay, but not long dangles . . . :!:

Well, I normally am great with my responsibility. The problem was , I fell for the "let's not get gifts this year" line my wife fed me. Then 4 days ago she tells me, "I could not resist, I got you an awsome gift". Now I am running around like a chicken with their head cut off.

iLander,

To each her own, but I wouldn't consider WF's huggie hoops to be 'long dangly' earrings or inappropriate for a lawyer. Here's an earshot of a similar pair (scroll down for the photo):

I didn't read closely enough to get to huggie hoops (that sounds fine) I just skimmed. I was referring to the first pair of earrings that the poster showed a picture of . . .

Please don't tell me Whiteflash is closed the Saturday before Christmas! I have been calling all day

Beautiful, but it's just a licensed name, no affiliation to the jeweler or the family. At least that's what I understand. It was purchased by a company in the mid-80's. . . I have a little egg pendant that someone gave me and the quality really isn't there, sorry to say so, LD.

If the quality were comparable to the real stuff, you're right, LD, it would be a stunning gift.

If you want rare, top-of-the line stuff, here's the best of a truly rare type of pearl: Kasumi pearls

This strand at $8300, is literally museum quality. The description from the site:

"This is a very special strand of natural color baroque Japan Kasumi pearls. I made this strand in 2000, and was overjoyed to be able to visit it in the Museum of Natural History in New York City in November of 2001. The Pearls exhibit then toured the world, visiting many of the world’s most treasured museums. Thrilling and educating thousands of visitors, this strand was featured because of it’s unique origin. The strand has spent the last 8 years under the most careful care, and we were happy to see that the pearls had retained their deep colors and luster. The pearls on this strand range from 9.8 – 13mm and several of them are heavily “pitted” (a natural occurrence). The colors include peach, soft and dusty pinks, and light lavenders with golden overtones."

Available at Kojima Pearls (Sarah is extremely professional) http://shop.kojimapearl.com/products/japan-kasumi-museum-strand
