I just wanna say -- the random comments thread

I'm sick of being cold. The rest of the country is sweltering in unusually hot weather and here we are cold & wet :nono:

Seriously. We were told 70 and mostly sunny for last weekend. Yeah.... how about 60 and rain. They're claiming this weekend will be in the 70s (maybe even 80) and sunny. Sure. I'll beleive it when I see it.

It isn't just that it is 60 & raining. The worst part is that it jumps all over. One day a couple of weeks ago was 84 degrees. The next was 63.

Oh --- and the trees have been turning red/orange/pink for WEEKS now! Some are even starting to drop their leaves. The poor things started summer okay then some started turning color as the cold/rain went on forever then back to greener as the sun came out. Repeat until the trees have given up and decided to go red.

Some people...

Hopefully they didn't hurt anyone else due to their stupidity.

FI just e-mailed me a link to a local news story. One of the guys who used to work at the company he is with was killed in a "road rage incident" and they think the guy who killed him was also drunk. Road Rage guy was "chasing down" another car that he thought had cut him off on the freeway when he rolled his car and smashed into this innocent man.
He had two kids (both under 8 ) and had just celebrated his 10th wedding anniversary.

Drunk driving laws are SOOOooooo messed up around here.

Edited to correct a smiley face I never inserted.

Want to scream! DH installed something on my imac and now its a brick. Its less than a year old so I tried to get mac to service it, but they don't cover damage due to third party software. Blarg. This is why I hate it when people touch my stuff!

I had a math test today, and I'm terrified to know what I scored. UGH

Ick!

If it turns on at all, you could try starting it in safe mode and removing that software.

Thanks for the advice! Its fixed now minus a week worth of files that I didn't back up....my fault. I spent two hours on the phone with technical support and I managed to get a white screen. DH somehow managed to get it back up and running from there. He's awesome with computers, I just wish he would leave mine alone!

Its funny because if it broke while I was using it I would be fine with it. I don't like people using my stuff because I get annoyed with them when something goes wrong. Its like I'm trying to safeguard against getting annoyed with people I care about.

Dude.

Are there any mortgage calculators out there that *aren't* smoking something they oughtn't?

Nope. I have never, ever seen one that is even close to accurate. Such a waste and misleading for those that don't know better!

Ugh. Our renters just emailed us. The main breaker on the house has been tripping. No worries, we will get someone out. Then they mentioned their car was stolen from the driveway a couple weeks ago and do we want to install a security light. We don't mind doing that, but it is a bit of a transitional neighborhood and they need to also put some precautions in place. We did when we lived there and the neighborhood being a bit transitional is nothing new!

I don't know that a security light would do much good. In today's world, they aren't going to startle anyone making a move, and most people sleep right through them coming on, including myself. I'd be more inclined to ask the local police department to increase their rounds in that area. We requested this when SO's gun was stolen out of his truck and they started driving around our block three or four times a night.

I'm of the same opinion, especially considering the master bedroom is in the back of the house with absolutely no view of the drive way.

I think I will recommend the y contact the police. Generally this street is safe and we never has any issues, but four blocks away it's diferent. Maybe thugs are creeping. Whatever the case, criminals are everywhere, especially in city neighborhoods and you need more precautions than a light!

I think I had a ghost in my bedroom last night! :errrr:

At about 3.30am one of my cats was scratching at the bedroom door so I got up and fed all 3 of them some biscuits in the spare room.
I went back to bed and closed the door to make sure none of them got in - it's Sunday morning here and I know DH wanted to get a sleep in. So... I'm lying face down in bed with my feet really close to the end so my toes were nearly hanging off. I was nearly asleep, not quite but pretty close to drifting off when I felt something, Someone poke the sole of my foot. It was hard enough to bring me out of my near sleep but I didn't move a muscle. I stayed completely still while my mind wandered. There's no cats in the room... DH is dead to the world on the other side of the bed not moving a muscle....

I was completely awake when it happened a second time. I even heard the doona move! Someone poked the sole of my foot from the outside of the doona again! This time I let out a yelp (DH didn't even stir) and curled myself up into the fetal position and hid my feet in DH's legs for protection.

It really freaked me out! I haven't had any ghostly action for a few years now so it kind of took me by surprise... DH doesn't believe me, he thinks it was one of the cats, even though I keep insisting they weren't in the room.

And I promise I haven't smoked any crack lately.. :cheeky:

HOT that happens to me but I think it's part of the whole sleep paralysis phenomenon. I think your body starts to drift off to sleep and as the muscles relax, you feel funny stuff that perhaps you shouldn't but your mind is still awake. This one time I felt as of someone had shook my feet. I actually thought it was my daughter as it was the same night she jumped out of her crib so we moved her pack and play into our room. I thought she had jumped out and was shaking me awake.

HI:

California--such interesting/nice people! Such crazy drivers! :rodent:

Oh that sounds like a far better explanation fiery! Thanks, I'll be able to sleep again tonight now. ::)

ETA: ok I just did a little google research on sleep paralysis and it said that it's extremely common amongst those with psychic abilities. I'm scared again,

Sharon - LOL! We're nothing compared to NYCers 8)

Question: do you ever just - sometimes post exactly what you're thinking, uncomplimentary though it may be?

I am longing to do just that - in SMTB, of all places. Call it a fit of mean-spiritedness. I think I'm usually nice enough to get away with it.

But... I'm nice, so I won't.

yssie~ i'm thinking of doing the exact same thing... but i'll bite my tongue.

Seems that it's going to be deleted.. I'll indulge and go on record to say that I predict a Concerns with my ring! thread in two weeks.. and I'll set the over under on another reset at six.

And on another topic - we need another 24hr thread!

i must be blind... because they dont look different enough to warrant paying thousands to change out 3 times...

btw, i wanna say i'm totally jealous that you'll be living in upstate ny. I love it there. We're leaving tomorrow night for 2 weeks and we're spending a week of it in the adirondacks!

Well, it's the second GBCPS of the month - and I don't understand this one either! Oh well.

Awesome!! And thank you - DH's grandmother has a cabin in the mountains and he has promised to take me skiing (my first time!) as soon as it's ready for use  I can't wait!

Where else are you going?

Just gonna hang out w/ bf's family and go 4 wheelin. His dad's friend is gonna let me drive a tractor!!! He's from a really small town between Syracuse and Albany, and i just love how peaceful it is. Huge change from LA, and i live in the non-hectic part of LA!

Fun ::) Yeah, our visits to LA and upstate NY couldn't have been more different!

I drove a tractor once. I learnt to pile up horse manure - so not exactly the most glamorous thing! And I was positively gleeful - my mum called it misguided, I believe.

Nonetheless - I wish you tractor operating luck

Haha, thanks! Piling manure sounds fun to me too. My favorite toy as a kid was a tractor, so anything w/ tractors puts me in my happy place. (i can see my bf's family shaking their heads already)

I'm in the mood for a little drama. Do you have links? Pretty please. :cheeky:

I missed the first GBCPS! That's what traveling will do to you. BAH.

On the "I just wanna say ..." front, only in NY will bank security act like it's no big deal to walk out with 10K in your pocket. What, you want to NOT shout that to a room full of people? Pshaw!

Good lord, this city.

Haha Zoe, drama indeed! I forgot all about it, guess that shows how important it is to me.
I was thinking of the Victor Canera halo in SMTB right now - and faegrace's aqua imitation fiasco in CS a couple of weeks ago. It's too bad she left, her stone was stunning and we can only wonder what other beauties we won't get to see ;(
