I just wanna say -- the random comments thread

A pro data recovery lab has highly trained enginees who see these cases many times a day! That is way different than your husband giving it a shot! Like I said, it shouldn't cost anything if the pictures really are unrecoverable, so there is NOTHING to lose!! I hope he comes around so you can at least try it. I would be so mad at my husband too!!! I'm so sorry this happened. :((

I am sooo, sooo, SOOOOOO incredibly angry with DH right now and I can't even say anything because it is three days before our anniversary and I would be the biggest bitch...

I LOVE PHOTOS, ALL PHOTOS. I used to keep all my photos on my old MAC and backed up to a hard-drive. When he bought me a new MacBook, he wanted to sell my old Mac and I agreed as long as he transferred all my stuff to my new Mac. That was 4 months ago and he never got around to it.

Today, he got around to backing up our hard drives and he thought he had backed both mine and his and wiped them to upgrade the software. Well, he didn't back up mine before he wiped my drive. He only copied over one picture folder (the current one)...

So all of our wedding photos, engagement, honeymoon, not to mention travel, birthdays, kids...ALL OUR PHOTOS ARE GONE!!! And the hard drive has been reformatted!

I had to go away to the store to cry so that I can pretend nothing is wrong.....I am so incredibly upset. I know that we can get our wedding photographer to copy our wedding photos, but we had photos from all of our guests and all the photos from our camera! No one else has those! No one else has the honeymoon photos...or the pictures of our proposal or my surprise 30th birthday, or my sisters 15th...I even had my mom's photos backed up to my computer! I am so angry that he never did what he promised to do 4 months ago and now everything is gone.

My DH accidentally did the same thing and I vented about it in the newlyweds area. Realizing that it was all gone was terrible. Like this horrible nauseous feeling where my stomach went in to my shoes. It was really hard to keep my cool with him that week! Lots of hugs and I hope you can recover as many as possible. Try camera memory cards, email, your photographer etc. I bet a lot of people took pictures at your wedding and would be happy to send them to you.

Send the drive to the professionals. If your DH has a problem with it just put it in terms he can understand ---- "So you do _______ every day and you are good at what you do. You know a lot of stuff that other people who don't do it every day just aren't aware of. Would it be a good idea if your client did ________ on their own?.......... So why is this any different?"

I'm sorry your pictures are lost. Do ask your photographer and even friends & family to send you any pictures they have. Checking your e-mail is a great suggestion too.

I haven't posted in this thread in forever...but feel compelled to share with the world that I wore an old pre-preggo bra today that began feeling like a vice that was crushing my ribs by lunch.
So I took it off an spent the rest of the afternoon freeing the tatas. I had on a shelf-bra tank at least, and it was under another shirt. It was pretty much a great afternoon at work following that.

LOL there's no better feeling than taking off your bra at the end of a long day (or any day for that matter).

Don't even ask him, just send it yourself. You HAVE to try. I can't imagine losing my wedding photos. In fact I'm gonna back them up right now.....

I work for a data recovery company. I don't think I'm allowed to tell you which one. If you do your research on the internet, there are basically three data recovery companies that have better success rates than any small, local company. Even if you don't end up using mine, contact a large data recovery lab that does *all* data recovery work *in house*. That should mean it's one of the big ones. If your husband did not re-write a large amount of data to the drive, IT IS VERY POSSIBLE that you can get your pictures back. But don't even turn the computer on, remove the hard drive immediately and send it directly to a reputable data recovery company. It is not cheap, but the better companies will not charge you if the data recovery attempt is not successful, so the only thing you have to lose if it doesn't work is possibly some shipping charges.

Please try it!!!! I promise I see stories like yours every day! (PLEASE do not use a data recovery program on your own. We see tons of people who destroyed their data trying this. Again, successful data recoveries can be expensive (although recoveries like yours are actually on the cheaper end) but it is so worth it to send it directly to a professional.)

Best wishes.

Good advice from Katy to send it to the pros. It's not about trust, it's about getting your photos back!

You did good! Congratulations honey!

I have a couple of spider crickets somewhere in my laundry room, and probably dozens of cicadas outside, and all of the noise is starting to get to me. It's not cute after a while.

Thank you gemgirl! I hope I did as well on the final yesterday morning. This is my retake of college algebra, first professor was horrible.

I'm sorry for the bugs btw. I don't mind them, but I've grown up with their noise lol! I'm not sure about the answer for the cicadas, but is there something you could put out in the laundry room to catch the crickets (like a bug box with the little water gummies they make?)

Mc Donalds for lunch... eh.. I'm so lazy I don't care!

and, p.s. don't tell my husband I just spend $190 on eyeliner

Was this permanent eyeliner, or a brand? Just curious.

I'm horsenapping. My sister no longer rides her barrel horse, and someone (raises hand and waves it wildly) wants to compete. I rode him bareback for the first time yesterday and I'm in LOVE. He has easy gates, and listens quite well. I'm about to go saddle him up. I DOUBT she'll be too mad, as she was considering giving him away (he's 18, not easy to sell in this market, and the two she wanted to give him to have no room), and I help buy the particular feed he eats. :Up_to_something:

I want to know if the eye-liner was permanent too??? I'm considering permanent eye-brows since I dont have many but
not sure if I can get the nerve to do it.

This is my 7k post. For someone who doesnt say much, I sure seem to have a lot of post :cheeky: ! I love PS  .

tyty, you can use Latisse on your eyebrows too (in addition to eye lashes), just as an alternative to permanent color.

And....... my Estee Lauder girl told me that we can order the generic form of Latisse on Canadian drug websites without a prescription and pay something like $25.- for it plus the customs charge (whatever that is). I'm not selling it, I'm not promoting it, I'm just saying it might be worth a try. I don't need it for my lashes, as they've grown back in since they fell out from my illness, but my eyebrows have been pitiful since my thyroid condition was diagnosed something like fifteen yrs. ago. I wish they had Latisse for the whole head :( .

I start medical terminology online today. Has anyone taken this? I'm intimidated.

I did look up Latisse...its a tad expensive. $120 for 6 to 8 week prescription. Takes usually 6 weeks to see improvment then
you can go on a maintanence plan where the cost will go down since you dont use it every day.

If anyone goes for the $25 Canadian version let us know if it works!

I want to go home and curl up in bed with my furry kitties.

Oh no! Will a good vent/rant help? I hope you're ok

Bad day today. And yesterday, and the day before. Can I rant?

The movers came Thursday and our apt is now four walls, four suitcases and a roll of garbage bags. And some spare TP.

Our flight out is Tuesday. I'm not ready to leave California, and I'm not ready to move to Middle of Nowhere. And all I can feel is resentment and bitterness and... yeah, I KNOW I'm being a petulant little baby about the whole thing, and I KNOW I agreed to give it a shot, but - my gut and heart just refuse to listen to my head. I really, really don't want to go - it just feels so wrong. Even out here, where entertainment is a scant 10, 20mins drive, all too often we make grandiose plans and for one reason or another they fall through, and I wind up either going myself or with other friends. How exactly am I supposed to believe we'll actually make the 2hr trip to NYC if a 20min trip is so often just too much?? I used to alternate between being excited and scared - at this point I don't think I've felt anything *but* dread for several days.

The job I was looking at earlier in Chicago upped their offer significantly. I love Chicago (and so does DH). But DH called the Albany GE offer his "dream job", and so ended any speculation as to whether or not it was our first choice, and I got a decent offer there so it just makes sense to move and I KNOW that...

We don't know if we've got a house or not, we don't have a plan B apartment lined up, so we're pretty much walking into the unknown as far as where we'll live goes. All we know for sure is that we have to be at work Sept 6th.

DH's mother is coming in - in about an hour. She's helping cart a cat on the plane - which is very nice of her to do. But damn it, I'm going to indulge in a good long sulk before she comes and I've got to put on my happy face.

Why does my MIL make promises to my son that she do not intend to keep?

Vent about house guests. Now I can appreciate a bit of what iLander had to deal with!

We live in Canada and were visited this weekend by our very good friends from New York. Normally they are lovely and considerate people, but this trip was another story. They just don't seem to understand how to travel to a different country. They didn't have ANY Canadian money because US dollars are better. They didn't bring credit cards because Canada doesn't have real police, just those horse ones so you have to be careful with your stuff. They didn't have travel health insurance because Canada has free healthcare right? Cuban cigars are legal in Canada so why not go looking for some all over the city at midnight? (all sarcasm by the way).

This was a very very expensive weekend. Here's hoping she pays me back for covering her medical bill....

Not really, but thank you for offering. I'm a little better today.

It irks me to no end when people drive 15 mph and swerving because they are trying to read a map. As in, map sprawed across the dash, or finger on GPS and not looking at street. If you're that lost, pull over, and look at the map before continuing! Ran into 3 different drivers doing that in a 30 min span. wtf.

I hope you're all having a good start to this week. Sounds like this was a rough weekend (and then some) for a lot of people.

Yssie -- I hope your move is boring with nothing but good waiting for you!

What on earth makes people think that getting out of their cars and wandering around in the middle of the FREEWAY is a good idea? Even the shoulder of the FREEWAY. And WTF convinces others that driving on the shoulder of the FREEWAY is a good idea..... especially with the other stupid people out walking on that same shoulder :nono:
Oh.... and since when is letting your kids play on the wrong side of a barricade on the side of a mountain okay???

People stuck in traffic get STUPID

RIP Jack Layton

DF: glad things are a little better!

Yssie: hugs, moving to a new area can be scary, sorry you're having a rough time at the moment but I'm sure things will be ok
